U.S. Senator Marco Rubio has issued a strong statement regarding Cuba, describing it as a national security concern for the United States amid rising geopolitical tensions.

In his remarks, Rubio referred to Cuba as a national security threat, reviving long-standing debates over U.S.–Cuba relations and regional security dynamics in the Western Hemisphere.

The statement comes in the broader context of heightened global tensions following the Iran conflict, where U.S. foreign policy focus has been heavily concentrated on multiple strategic regions.

Rubio’s comments have sparked political discussion about whether Washington may shift its attention toward Latin America as part of its broader security and foreign policy strategy.

This video breaks down Rubio’s statement, the context behind it, and what it could mean for future U.S. geopolitical priorities.

00:00Cuba's in a lot of trouble because, unfortunately for them, it's run by a bunch of incompetent communists.
00:05Being communist is bad. Being an incompetent communist is like the worst.
00:10But the country's been taken over by this company called Gaisa that basically controls 70% of the economy.
00:16None of the money in that company goes to help the Cuban people. None of it.
00:20So we'll be talking to them. We'll be working on it.
00:23We want something good for the Cuban people.
00:25And hopefully there'll be a good outcome there for them.
00:27There needs to be. It's 90 miles from our shores.
00:30And having a failed state 90 miles from our shores is a threat to the national security of the United
00:36States.
00:36You know, we want something good for the Cuban people.
00:39And hopefully there'll be a good outcome there for them.
00:41There needs to be. It's 90 miles from our shores.
00:44And having a failed state 90 miles from our shores is a threat to the national security of the United
00:50States.
00:51So we're producing right now more oil by double than Russia and Saudi Arabia combined.
00:58There's never been anything like that.
01:00We have. We don't need oil. We don't need the straits. We don't need anything.
01:03But we have more oil now being produced by double, by two times, than Russia and Saudi Arabia combined.
01:11Great, a great state.
01:13Do you want to say something about that?
01:15Well, I would, President Trump, under your leadership.
01:18We've opened up lease sales on public land.
01:21This is land that was put away for the benefit and the use of the American people, like the Strategic
01:26Petroleum Reserve in Alaska.
01:28The Biden administration had illegally stopped holding lease sales during their administration.
01:34President Trump famously said, drill, baby, drill.
01:36But before you can drill, you've got to open public lands.
01:40Between the lease sales that have happened in the Permian, in the Bakken, and on the North Slope, just since
01:48January of this year, it's over $4 billion of revenue has come into the Treasury.
01:53That's 13 times more than the Biden administration brought in on lease sales in the entire four years that you're
01:59in office.
02:01Sir, your policies brought that in in five months.
02:03So with that, a lot of excitement, a lot of activity.
02:06We also inherited, just in one district in Carlsbad, New Mexico, 5,600 unprocessed applications to drill for oil and
02:16gas on public land.
02:17And when we're drilling on public land, those companies pay a royalty.
02:21And that money comes to all of our citizens, and it goes to local school districts, and it goes to
02:26states.
02:26It is the core of the economy in parts of our country.
02:30The team down there, working for the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management, has dropped that by 91%.
02:36It's one of the reasons why they had a record lease sale.
02:38It's because now people go, I can bid on federal land, and I'm going to get a permit to drill,
02:42and it's not going to take me five years to get it.
02:45I'm going to get it in a month or less.
02:47And so it's exciting to see your vision.
02:51And, of course, with this energy dominance, us, as you noted, largest oil producer in the world, largest natural gas
02:57producer in the world,
02:58largest natural gas exporter, this is an opportunity for us to bring prosperity and affordability here at home, but also
03:05increase abroad.
03:06So, President Trump, your energy dominance strategy with Chris Wright, Lee Zeldon, all the people that are working on this,
03:13people around the room,
03:14you know, it's been really incredible.
03:17And, of course, you mentioned Venezuela, but all that flowing to our Gulf Coast refineries is also helping to keep
03:23the price of gas down at home.
03:24So, again, it's an amazing transformation.
03:27Bottom line is the center of geopolitics around energy has moved from other parts of the world to the Western
03:35Hemisphere in the last five months.
03:37You turn Venezuela from a sanctioned adversary into a strategic ally in 45 minutes.
03:43Never happened in history before.
03:45And what's going on in Alaska.
