01:57When you think about Becky and Charlotte, I mean, you can't not think about the rivalry that they had.
02:02It was a full-time job being your friend.
02:05Is this another pity party for yourself where you say, I stole your spotlight or I put you in my

02:11They came in at the same time and had to rise at the same time.
02:17They had to deliver because so many people before them went through so much.
02:23My dad is Ric Flair. I knew my dad was famous. I knew my dad was a wrestler.
02:30But I didn't really understand or know the business.
02:35Nature boy Ric Flair, he's walking right past us here.
02:37And that lovely young lady is Ric Flair's daughter, Ashley.
02:432012, I went to my dad and I was like, I want to do this.
02:46And he was like, are you sure?
02:47I was like, no, really, I want to do this.
02:50The next thing you know, I got a call from Hunter.
02:55He was like, just because you're Ric Flair's daughter does not mean you're going to get a handout.
02:59And it, like, kind of struck a chord.
03:02And I was like, well, I'm not asking for a handout.
03:04She holds herself to such a high standard.
03:06And I think a lot of people think that just because you grew up in the business that it automatically
03:09means that you're going to be successful.
03:11And that's not the case.
03:12The entire building already had opinions of me before I even came.
03:18She was very much aware who her father was in the shadow of that cast.
03:23And she felt, I think, a lot of pressure to measure up to the Flair name.
03:28Tonight's a special night for me because my daughter, Charlotte, is debuting tonight.
03:37And I'm here to be in her corner.
03:41Charlotte's really, really just dominant in that regard.
03:45That is a whole different type of talent.
03:48On the other hand, Becky's a scrapper, man.
03:54I grew up in Ireland, big wrestling fan, loved it.
03:59So I started wrestling and I was awful at it, but I loved it.
04:06Eventually, when I was 18, I moved away from home.
04:09I wrestled around America, around Europe, around Japan.
04:12And I gave it up for several years.
04:14But I always felt this longing and this pull to come back to it like I had unfinished business.
04:21It was seven years after I had quit wrestling that I got assigned to WWE.
04:30She was one of the nicest people you'd ever meet.
04:33She was hungry for this and tried really, really hard.
04:36But, like, most that come in, they don't know who they are.
04:40Becky, she had some self-doubt and she had some questions.
04:44Stayed with it, stayed with it.
04:45And you could see that there was so much potential.
04:49I was having some struggles and Charlotte went out of her way to be kind to me when I didn't
04:55always feel like I fit in.
05:02Maybe Charlotte saw the pressure that I was putting myself under and maybe she felt that same pressure with being
05:09Ric Flair's daughter.
05:13I don't think I really had a first impression other than there's another girl that, you know, is really hungry,
05:22wants to work really hard.
05:24We were just innocent and happy to be there.
05:28Was willing to put herself out there in promo class.
05:31Like, I think one time we did the Irish jig dance together.
05:35Like, I still cringe when I see it on my timeline.
05:38I'm like, why didn't we do that?
05:42Those NXT days were the best because everybody was so hungry and because it was so new.

05:52For me, this is about, like, representing all these amazing ladies that I train with every single day.
05:57And they're like, oh, my sisters. So it's more about just representing NXT because I know how hard everyone works
06:04at the Performance Center.
06:05And unless you've been there, you don't get it. So this is for NXT.
06:12I remember the bubbling underneath the surface of that time period.
06:17They just started saying, well, if the guys can do it, we can do it. And fans responded to it.

06:24When I came in in 95, we didn't have not only have a women's favorite, we didn't have women. Period.
06:29We didn't have one woman on the card.
06:31You're giving these girls now the opportunity to not only main event, but also main event in a way that
06:37any other top performer would main event.

06:52It was the first time I had been to a match and saw girls wearing girls merch.
06:59And I just thought to myself, like, wow, this is, like, next level.
07:04We were building NXT to become a traveling show, then to have its own pay-per-views.
07:10But we were all doing it with the same goals, and that was to make it from NXT to either
07:15Raw or SmackDown.
07:17There is a revolution with women in sports, and it is time for us to make a change in the
07:24Divas division right now.
07:28I can't believe this!

07:31Becky Lynch, Charlotte, and now Sasha Banks, live on Raw!

07:39We knew we belonged there.
07:41It definitely changed the game forever for where the women were headed after that.

07:58I think it was good for them to have each other as they got called up.

08:42In the early days in the main roster, Charlotte Flair debuted like, you know, a future world champion.

08:55She had all the makings of it, obviously had the lineage,
08:58and from the moment she came on the screen, it was clear this is the future face of the women's
09:03division, right?
09:11Charlotte had it easier in terms of being presented as a star, and it sounds like a slight on Charlotte,
09:18but I don't mean it that way at all.
09:19Because Charlotte, nobody really works harder than her in general.
09:24I'm just saying, in terms of presentation, clearly Charlotte was their favorite.
09:30Becky was kind of the sidekick.
09:31How would you feel if we went to the authority and asked if we could have a match?

09:37I was thinking more you versus me.

09:43Charlotte and I were always seen in different lights, right?

10:04Becky and Charlotte had some battles in the past at NXT.
10:07Yeah, certainly so. That's where they kind of built their bond, too, and mutual respect for each other.

10:13I think she might have twisted her ankle when she came up over the top.

10:39Well, I definitely felt more comfortable being a bad guy.
10:43Now it was this personal story, two best friends, one who had gotten the title,
10:49and then this underdog who the friend saw as lesser than.
10:56Becky knows deep down that she's never, ever gonna be as good as I am.

11:06You are going to know me as plain old Becky Lynch, the woman that's taking your title.
11:19WrestleMania 32, and Becky and Charlotte are right in the middle of it.
11:23You think about how far they've come, and to be on the grandest stage of them all at WrestleMania.
11:29There was so much interest in this rivalry that it led to Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch getting a prime
11:36spot in a triple threat match with Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 32.
11:41And now they had also changed the name of the title from the so awfully called Divas Championship to the
11:50Women's Championship.
11:52The look of it, I mean, as subtle as it is, it just gave that little extra bit of legitimacy
11:59to this new, this evolution into the women's division.
12:04There you see the three women who will battle tonight for the WWE Women's Championship.
12:10Becky, Sasha, Charlotte, three superstars who started a revolution.
12:15I can't say enough about the pressure that are put on women to live up to expectations.
12:21It's a lot.
12:23And then on top of it, now there's a new set of expectations because you've educated people and showed them
12:28like, hey, we're also great wrestlers.
12:30Like, oh, yeah, okay, well, give us a great wrestling match then.
12:34Triple threat rules.
12:36First superstar to gain pitfall or submission becomes the champion.
12:40That was one of those groundbreaking matches because it really cemented what we could do given time, given a storyline.

14:26So, prior to WrestleMania 32,
14:29we were working both Raw and SmackDown
14:31and then they decided to do a draft.
14:35Yes, this is SmackDown Live
14:37and yes, this is the WWE draft.
14:42Where Raw would pick its token superstars
14:45and SmackDown would pick its token superstars.
14:47These two brands have completely different rosters,
14:51completely different television shows
14:52and completely different live event schedules.
14:55So, if you go on one show or the other,
14:58odds are you won't see the superstars on the other show
15:01for potentially months at a time.
15:04I think what a draft does,
15:06it gives you a storyline reason
15:07to split people up and give people opportunities
15:09that they normally wouldn't have.
15:11Gives you a reason to mix it up, yeah.
15:12Yeah, just get a change of scenery.
15:14Stephanie, both of you and I agreed
15:16what Raw needed was a very strong women's division,
15:19which is why we're using our next pick
15:21to draft the WWE Women's Champion, Charlotte.
15:33It's been a little stressful because you just want to know.
15:35And from a personal standpoint,
15:39you're like, am I going to be separated from my best friend?
15:42And for SmackDown's next pick,
15:44I think you missed out on the best woman superstar,
15:48which is who we're going to pick right now.
15:51And that's the last kicker, Becky Lynch!
16:06She was like my work wife.
16:08Like, who was I going to travel with?
16:10Who was I going to stay with?
16:11Who was going to, you know, be my rock?
16:15Like, yeah, it was difficult.
16:21It felt like we were being separated by war, you know?

16:27But then, after the initial upset subsided,
16:33I started to get very excited because it felt like
16:35now I can step out on my own.
16:38I wouldn't just be seen as Charlotte's sidekick
16:41or Charlotte's best friend.
16:44I can be my own superstar, my own woman.
16:53In 2016, the WWE brought back the draft, and Becky and Charlotte
16:58found themselves on separate shows.
17:00I can tell you firsthand, like, it makes a big difference being able to drive
17:04with people that you like versus driving by yourself.
17:07Being in the locker room with people that you like versus being in the locker room
17:10and being surrounded by people who you don't necessarily vibe with.
17:12But also, you know, it does give Charlotte and Becky a chance
17:16to sort of spread their wings solo.
17:19She is the WWE Women's Champion, Charlotte!
17:25She's a super motivated person.
17:27She's a perfectionist.
17:29The company sees a natural ability.
17:31They see the fans either booing her or loving her.
17:34She has a great look to her, very marketable.
17:37So it's only natural to put her in this spot.
17:41I have been leading this women's division,
17:44and I have evolved it into what it is today.
17:47For the first time ever, we will have a women's match inside the Hell in the South.

18:03Like, I remember being in the division at that time,
18:05and there was a really, really strong focus on Charlotte.
18:10Charlotte becomes a two-time, three-time, four-time women's champion.
18:16I feel like there was a lot more focus on Charlotte than there was on Becky.
18:21I have my little run of success for, like, a one-day two.

18:27The first-ever SmackDown Women's Champion!

18:39She was the first-ever SmackDown Women's Champion,
18:41so to me that says a lot of the company having trust in her.

18:59And then eventually I lost it, and then kind of just began meandering,
19:05because I wasn't seen as one of the stars.
19:09That was the insecurity in me.
19:11There was one time she asked me, like,
19:13what am I doing wrong, or what can I do different?
19:16I don't think I had an answer for her, to be honest.
19:19Like, I just happened to be in that position,
19:22and I happened to be excelling, and I was consistent.
19:28Ladies and gentlemen, the newest member of the SmackDown Live Women's Division,

19:40Eventually, Charlotte got brought over to SmackDown,
19:43and then she was pushed as the main babyface,
19:46and I kind of just fell by the wayside.
19:50WrestleMania that year, I was just relegated to the pre-show Battle Royal,
19:54which is where everybody went when they didn't have anything for them.

20:01And Charlotte was gonna have this match with Oscar,
20:04and she was gonna win it.

20:31and I had been wrestling with it without getting it fixed.
20:35So I was gone for six weeks for that.
20:38Charlotte, at the time, was getting surgery,
20:41and so now was my time.
20:43Becky Lynch just earned herself a first-class ticket
20:46to challenge Carmella at SummerSlam
20:48for the SmackDown Women's Championship.
20:51People were excited to see me get my opportunity,
20:54my one-on-one title shot at SummerSlam for the first time,
20:58and then Charlotte came back.
21:00If Charlotte Flair is able to beat Carmella here in this match,
21:04she'll be entered into the SmackDown Live Women's Championship match
21:07at SummerSlam.

31:37It was midnight by the time we went out there. And the crowd had seen so much wrestling, but they
31:43came to life.
31:45That is the RAW Women's Champion, Ronda Rousey. She is here tonight not to talk, but to fight.
31:51It almost felt like a lot of the attention was going on Ronda, but we all know the match was
31:57really between Becky and Charlotte.

33:49Any one of us could have walked out champion.
33:52The crowd was just eating up everything.
33:55But there's Becky at the end with both titles.
34:01I just had this cockiness that I really enjoyed for that night.
34:15That was supposed to be the end of me and Charlotte.
34:18For an entire year, we wrestled at every single pay-per-view on the run-up to WrestleMania.
34:24I apologized for going so harsh because I knew that it hurt her feelings and I knew it crossed lines.
34:32She had sent this long text during COVID.
34:35She was just like, I'm sorry if I hurt you in any way.
34:38And it was very sincere.
34:41It felt like we were done with that chapter and going to move on to another.
34:47But we weren't, were we?
34:50The annual WWE draft happened again in 2021.
34:55Charlotte gets drafted from Raw to SmackDown while she's the Raw Women's Champion.
35:01And Becky gets drafted from SmackDown to Raw while she's the SmackDown Women's Champion.
35:08Right here, right now, we are going to exchange the championships and you two will go to your respective new
35:15brands as the women's champion.
35:17They had a very specific way.
35:20They wanted to do this exchange and they wanted me to have the two belts.
35:24Maybe instead of a title exchange tonight, Becky Two Belts makes a comeback.
35:30When Becky asked for the title, I was supposed to hand Becky the title so she could go like this
35:36in my face and hold up both titles.
35:38I had been extremely adamant, not understanding why Charlotte's character would stand there as the good guy and just hand
35:47over the title.
35:48I was supposed to just grab it out of her hands and then I'm like going Becky Two Belts.
35:53And I remember her saying, well, I'm going to pull it up in the air.
35:56And I was like, no, you're not supposed to know that I'm grabbing it.
36:01I don't know if she thought I look too cool.
36:03She looked bad or something like that.
36:05But then before we go out, I go, she's going to drop that title.
36:12Becky asked Charlotte to relinquish the championship first, the Raw women's title.
36:28So then when she goes like this and I have to reach it, I'm just going off.
36:33I knew you were going to do this.
36:35And you're just doing this to make me look like crap.
36:39The title dropped.
36:41I didn't drop it on purpose.
36:44Like I literally would have dropped.
36:45I was like, oh, s***.
36:48Like, I like picked it up immediately.
36:52If anyone knows how important the title is to me,
36:56I would never be dismissive of the title and the way that it was presented that I did.
37:05And so that got me really, really upset.

37:25She came back and she was like, it was an accident already.

37:37Being called a c*** and screaming at me in front of everybody, it just felt so personal.
37:45I remember thinking, how could their friendship get so bad?
37:49And now they can't even work together properly?
37:54When I say Charlotte Flair, what's the first thing that comes to your mind?

38:08Regardless of whatever people want to think,
38:10that the title was dropped on purpose,
38:13or not on purpose,
38:16I know no one's better than me.
38:18And when I face her at Survivor Series,

38:26I could still see the dollar signs of this real-life animosity
38:29being something that people would pay money
38:31to see us beat the ever-living crap out of each other for.
38:35Now, in hindsight, people were so excited for Survivor Series.
38:39Kind of glad it happened.
38:40No matter what the justification or right or wrong of it is,
38:44it adds to the effect of that's a great part of the storyline.
38:47It just happens to be real.
38:50The last time those two were in the ring together,
38:53things got, let's just say,
38:55a bit contentious.

39:02I genuinely mean this.

39:06I don't like who she's become.

39:09This is the culmination of our entire careers,
39:11and it truly is who is the better woman.

39:19to be the hero, to be this, to be cheered, to be liked, to pander.
