00:01Mom, come on.
00:02Do you want an upgrade?
00:10There's a hotel over there, right?
00:12Go, go, go.
00:13Come on, look at you go.
00:14I'm proud of you, babe.
00:16Yeah, I'm proud of you too, Mom.
00:17Thank you for the book.
00:20Mom, come on.
00:21Hello, welcome to Sokcho.
00:23Welcome to Sokcho.
00:25Please sign in.
00:28I have fifth again, so it's 2046.
00:33Five and a half hours behind Stephen and Vivian.
00:36Yeah.
00:37Sharon and Brydie are the last team to reach the second checkpoint.
00:41We are gutted, obviously.
00:42We've got to catch up now.
00:44Maybe we need to start splashing the cans.
00:46Enjoy your stay.
00:47Will do.
00:47Thank you very much.
00:49In the previous leg, as the teams crossed into South Korea,
00:53the field split.
00:55Meaning the two leading teams opened up a substantial gap
00:58over their rivals.
01:16In the north of Sokcho, Abai village, established by refugees fleeing south during the Korean War,
01:24who forged new livelihoods fishing in the surrounding waters.
01:28So what is it?
01:29I don't know.
01:30Is that squiddering?
01:31What's it like?
01:33Hot.
01:34Is it early?
01:35Is it early?
01:36Is it early?
01:36We're feeling really good to be in the lead.
01:38And then we've got our boys who are close behind us.
01:41Yeah.
01:42So where do you think we might be going next?
01:44It's got to be China, isn't it?
01:45Mm.
01:48Oh, no.
01:49No.
01:49It is not possible for the race to continue through China.
01:53Oh.
01:53My.
01:54God.
01:55What was that?
01:56Pretty shocked.
01:57I'm baffling.
01:57I can't believe it.
01:59You will fly to Hanoi, where the race will resume, and you will discover the location of
02:02the third checkpoint.
02:04Vietnam.
02:05So we're going right down into the middle of Southeast Asia.
02:07Oh, wow.
02:08OK.
02:11Leaving ultra-modern South Korea behind, the teams will restart the race in a very different
02:16location.
02:21Hanoi, Vietnam, Southeast Asia's most northerly capital.
02:33It's hectic streets teeming with over five million residents, and almost as many motorcycles.
02:51If we can't adapt to, like, the Southeast Asian culture and the way they work, I feel like
02:56this could throw a spanner in the works.
02:57Wow.
02:58Navigate our way through that race.
03:00Game has changed.
03:00Nice.
03:02Come in.
03:13Anyway, we're here in Vietnam.
03:15Touching down at Hanoi's Noi Bai Airport, leaders of the race since the first checkpoint, Eugenie
03:21and Isabelle.
03:23It's really hectic here.
03:24And it's quite humid as well.
03:27The language barrier is going to be really difficult to get over.
03:30I think that's my biggest fear.
03:31OK.
03:32OK.
03:32Your third checkpoint is Phnom...
03:36Phnom Pherry?
03:37Is it Cambodia?
03:41The third checkpoint, and Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh.
03:46One of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing cities.
03:51Almost 2,000 kilometres away, through picturesque rice paddies, rugged mountains and bustling
03:59cities.
04:01And on this leg, the teams will need to adjust to their new surroundings quickly.
04:05Oh, my goodness.
04:06The team that reaches there in the fifth place will be eliminated from the rope.
04:10We can't.
04:11We can't.
04:12We could just make sure it's not us.
04:14We just need to keep our lead.
04:15Yeah, because, you know, it could just flip easily.
04:18Yeah.
04:18It feels quite stressful, this elimination leg, but we've got quite a good lead.
04:23I think we've got a bit more time to fatter out.
04:25To get to Phnom Penh, the teams face an important choice.
04:31They could stick to the popular backpacker route along the Vietnamese coast, all the way
04:36south to Ho Chi Minh City, before following the Mekong River north into Cambodia.
04:42Or aim to get to the Cambodian border as soon as possible.
04:47Then strike out for Phnom Penh as the crow flies.
04:50Shorter by almost 200 kilometres, but leaving major cities behind.
04:57We go kind of off the beaten track.
04:59Yeah.
04:59It should be a bit more of a direct route.
05:01Right.
05:01So, in essence, we are going faster into Cambodia.
05:05We want to avoid taking a train.
05:06It's just too expensive.
05:08So it's just buses.
05:10Our budget is quite low.
05:12So, part of our route is to make money along the way.
05:16We head from Hanoi, Phnom Penh, to get some money polishing my spikes.
05:22I mean, we don't have a map, this is our problem, so it could be very far out.
05:26Isabel's plan?
05:27Stop to work just south of Hanoi, before striking out for Cambodia.
05:32OK, and they'll do some activities there.
05:35No.
05:35What, you need to get into your head?
05:38Polite-speaking.
05:39We need money.
05:42Just looking at me is not helpful, Mum.
05:44Can you talk?
05:45I thought it was telepathy.
05:46No, it's not telepathy.
05:49Do you need a wee or anything?
05:50No, I'm fine.
05:51I don't think I know Mum very well at all.
05:54I think it's more so when we have arguments, I see certain sides of her
05:58that I don't think I've always been exposed to.
06:01We're going to Nimbing city centre.
06:04We do butt heads.
06:06Got it, thank you.
06:07Sometimes my viewpoint might differ from Isabel's, but I keep my viewpoint to myself.
06:14Just to kind of keep the peace, almost.
06:17The times when I don't, that's the times when we clash.
06:23These snack bars are lovely.
06:25I don't have two, did you take two?
06:28Why can't I have two?
06:29No, because this is rations, Mum.
06:30Are you hungry?
06:31This isn't, yes, this is my lunch.
06:33You know you eat when you're hungry.
06:34I didn't realise how hungry I was, I just had the first one.
06:40Still in South Korea...
06:42The other two teams are a whole day ahead.
06:43Yeah, they've gone.
06:44..and still to discover the impending elimination...
06:47What are they doing differently?
06:49..the three trailing teams.
06:51I think when we need to race, like...
06:53We can.
06:54For our speed and competitive nature, yeah.
06:56I want to beat everyone.
06:57Why would you not want to beat everyone?
06:58Guys, we're going to a cheaper country!
07:01Has anyone been to Vietnam before?
07:03No, no.
07:04I am genuinely disappointed with knocking through China.
07:06Just completely mind-blowing by the jump.
07:08Yeah.
07:10It's literally like when you pass your driving test,
07:12you learn when you get in the car.
07:13Yeah.
07:13This is literally like the race.
07:15Yeah.
07:15So...
07:15You're learning on the job.
07:26The team that reaches there in fifth place will be eliminated from the race.
07:29Next to set off...
07:31Oh!
07:33Oh!
07:33Four and a half hours after the race leaders, Alfie and Owen.
07:37By the way, in the position we're in, if we finish fifth, it's a disaster.
07:39It's an absolute tragedy.
07:42I think we stay in Vietnam.
07:43I think Vietnam is more reliable than Cambodia.
07:46Yeah.
07:46In a leg where we need speed, we can't be faffing about with going to see things on this leg.
07:51I think we head down to Ho Chi Minh.
07:53If we're thinking of going to Ho Chi Minh as well, there's a job here at a nightclub,
07:57which I think looks pretty fun.
07:58Shit, okay.
07:59For me, a nightclub is right up my street.
08:01I love that sort of thing, you know, in the middle of Ho Chi Minh as well.
08:05Okay.
08:06We need money.
08:07Yeah.
08:08Let's go.
08:08Let's go.
08:09Our biggest challenge for this leg is ourselves.
08:12We are in a good position, but our good position can very quickly become a bad position
08:17with just one bad day.
08:23So, first port of court is to head down to Ho Chi Minh and do our job and then cross
08:27over.
08:28There might even be an overnight train.
08:29Overnight train would be cool.
08:31Opting to follow the tourist route south towards Ho Chi Minh City, Owen and Alfie aim to catch
08:36the last train of the evening to Da Nang.
08:38How much?
08:402,350,000 dong.
08:42The no sleep?
08:45No sleep?
08:45How much?
08:47So it's about a million cheaper.
08:48So it's an extra 20 pounds to sleep.
08:50I think we should get the sleeper.
08:52Why?
08:53Explain.
08:54Because realistically, we'd still be under budget.
08:57It takes the largest chunk of the journey that we would do in one night and we'd get
09:03rest whilst doing it.
09:05I think if you do a cost-benefit analysis, we'd benefit more from the 20 pounds than the
09:1020 pound would benefit us later down the line.
09:12I feel like we have been talking about how tight we are on budget.
09:15This is a prime example on how we can save money.
09:18Yeah?
09:18Yeah, obviously we're sacrificing comfort, but that's kind of part of it.
09:21We've kind of, we've just got to suck it up and get on with it, to be honest.
09:24I don't think we're sacrificing comfort.
09:26I think we're sacrificing sleep.
09:27And I think there's a fundamental difference there.
09:29I don't know.
09:30I just think 20 quid's just a lot to spend on a bit of extra comfort that we might not
09:34even need, you know?
09:35Right, fine.
09:36Executive decision, we're not doing it.
09:37We won't do it.
09:38What, lying down?
09:39Won't do it.
09:39Why not?
09:40Because you've just argued it.
09:42That's how an argument works.
09:43I'll back down.
09:43Okay.
09:53Oh, Jesus.
09:56Wow.
09:57I don't think it's too bad.
09:58I mean, realistically, we're saving 20 quid.
10:00Oh, no, let's be absolutely clear, it really is that bad.
10:03It's all bad.
10:04Compared to what you could have, it really is that bad.
10:15Yeah, it's bare shoes.
10:19What are you beeping for?
10:20The remaining teams have arrived in Vietnam, ready to restart their race.
10:25Oh, look at this.
10:27Third to get going, 18 and a half hours behind the race leaders.
10:31Let's just go.
10:32No.
10:33He's going.
10:34Yeah, I don't want to just go.
10:36Betty and James.
10:38Oh, careful.
10:39Get me across this boat now.
10:43Vietnam is nuts.
10:48Like, absolutely bonkers.
10:50I just don't get it.
10:51Look at those chickens.
10:52Where?
10:52And the duck.
10:53Oh, my God.
10:54I didn't think I thought.
10:55That's mad.
10:59It's elimination stage.
11:00We want to make some time up on the others.
11:03Yeah.
11:04This bit of a country in Vietnam is just race.
11:06I think we're going to go for the northern crossing, we think.
11:09It's just the shortest of the crow flies.
11:13The siblings plan to get to Cambodia as quickly as they can.
11:19Two tickets to Da Nong, 1,002 tickets.
11:23OK.
11:23The budget has taken a bit of a hit over the last couple of legs.
11:26But I think at the forefront of the mind is the race, the competitiveness.
11:29The aim isn't just to not be eliminated.
11:32It's sort of to capture those people ahead and overtake if we can.
11:36Their budget is in need of a top-up with less than 50% remaining.
11:41And nearly three quarters of the race still to run.
11:46There's so many buses.
11:49Like, it's unreal.
11:50I think I would usually go experience.
11:51But in this case, like, I don't want to be eliminated.
11:54So, it's going to have to take James' lead.
11:57And get my little race head on and get from A to B as fast as possible.
12:00Da Nang? Da Nang, yeah?
12:02I think we've got a good taste to win.
12:04Off we go!
12:06Competitiveness gets you a long way.
12:08Growing up playing cricket was my life.
12:10I was holding a ball, holding the bat, throwing, catching, hitting.
12:14As soon as I could walk.
12:15I always wanted to just do everything cricket.
12:18I played from six all the way up to just before the pro level.
12:22And with sport naturally comes competitiveness and the want to win.
12:27So, yeah, I think we can win this, me and Betty.
12:30This is our home for the night.
12:3215 hours.
12:33There's feet everywhere.
12:38Look at him!
12:44Vietnam is known as the Kingdom of Motorcycles.
12:48Over 45 million crowded streets.
12:51Come and get your bike washed.
12:54An hour and a half south of Hanoi,
12:57Mr Tha and his wife Xu Yen's business
12:59cleans over 30 every day.
13:03Oh, this is hard work.
13:05Today, Isabelle and Eugenie have agreed to help them out
13:09to top up their funds.
13:10There we go.
13:10OK, OK.
13:13We did him raise a lot of money in Japan and South Korea,
13:18so we need to work.
13:20How many have I done?
13:22I keep getting the rust buckets every time.
13:27I think we're racing quite slowly.
13:30We're barely out of Hanoi.
13:32But we don't want to be hanging around here.
13:34Oh, and up there.
13:35We'll rush back and we'll be on that sleep with us.
13:38And hopefully just keep ploughing through tomorrow morning.
13:41Oh, wow!
13:43Lunch with the boss is considered an honour.
13:46Oh!
13:48In return, guests are expected to show their gratitude
13:51by eating with enthusiasm.
13:54Lovely.
13:56Very nice.
13:58Mmm.
13:59Mum, I can't eat this.
14:01Just try. Just one more.
14:05I want to eat more.
14:09Don't offend.
14:10I'm not offending.
14:12How do I say I'm a vegetarian?
14:14You're not.
14:16Isabel was very, very concerned about being disrespectful
14:20in terms of not eating the food.
14:25I'm full.
14:26No, you're not.
14:28When it comes to something like food,
14:31Isabel's Isabel, it's the textures, it's the texture.
14:34But he was nice.
14:36Have some rice?
14:38You're not helping me.
14:39What?
14:40No, you're getting on my nerves
14:41because you're doing this thing where you could actually be helping.
14:44Right, what do you want me to say?
14:45Mum was not very supportive at all.
14:47I felt like you could have been on my side a bit more.
14:50The food was yummy.
14:51It was yummy.
14:52Yummy.
14:58I can see why this has taken 16 hours
15:00because we've been crawling for a while.
15:03It's basically been going at walking pace
15:05for maybe a quarter of the journey.
15:09680 kilometres further south.
15:11After 16 hours on a train,
15:14Alfie and Owen are gradually approaching Da Nang.
15:19I'm very frustrated to go 14 kilometres an hour.
15:22I mean, like, that's a light jog.
15:25Built under French colonial rule,
15:27Vietnam's rail network runs on narrow-gauge tracks.
15:32Between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City,
15:34the average speed is barely 50 kilometres per hour.
15:36I just think this is so slow that it might be easy to get a bus.
15:40It's my understanding that Da Nang and Hoi An are quite well-connected places.
15:47Back in Hanoi...
15:50What time will we go?
15:52Five minutes? Two minutes?
15:54Two minutes? Two minutes?
15:56Jess, I'm timing you.
15:59Two minutes.
16:00Fourth to get going, Stephen and Viv.
16:04Hello, what's the day?
16:05Where is he?
16:06Is this the two minutes but when I feel like it?
16:09Setting off on their elimination leg nearly 25 hours after the race leaders.
16:14The sense of competition is rising.
16:16We really want to leap up at one or two or more,
16:19but we know that Char and Braddy are close on our heels.
16:23Two minutes!
16:25He's coming, he's coming.
16:27We're going to be chased now and they're going to be just as motivated.
16:30They are.
16:31I hate being chased as well.
16:33I know.
16:34I have a real phobia of being chased.
16:36I used to hate it when my brother used to chase me.
16:40It says Vietnam.
16:42We should be able to make it down to Nha Trang tonight.
16:46Yeah, depends if it's a fast train.
16:47I imagine an express train would be faster than an overnight bus.
16:51We've got to go as fast as we can, haven't we?
16:52Yes.
16:53They've also opted to take the tried and tested tourist route.
16:58Yeah, ticket office, train station.
17:00Yeah, it's just started raining as well, isn't it?
17:02Oh, yay, yay, yay.
17:04Hello.
17:05Nha Trang.
17:07But unlike the boys, they are unaware of the Vietnamese rail system's leisurely pace.
17:13How long is the train from Hanoi?
17:15About 24 hours.
17:1824 hours?
17:19Yeah.
17:20Tomorrow?
17:21Yeah.
17:22Wow.
17:23It took me that long to drive to Austria.
17:26Yeah.
17:27Oh, God.
17:28Right, so I think we've got to go with that.
17:30Yeah.
17:33I don't know if it's the right decision that we've made,
17:36but to be eliminated would be mortifying.
17:39Oh.
17:42Oh, jeez, wake me up tomorrow.
17:45Tomorrow night.
17:47God and Dennett.
17:4830 hour train ride.
17:57Oh, do you know what?
17:59It's chaos.
18:00Isn't it?
18:02Last to depart Hanoi, five and a half hours later, Brady and Sharon.
18:07Do you feel like you've got everyone everywhere?
18:09It's a lot.
18:11Overwhelming.
18:11I want to get out of Hanoi.
18:14Let's go in there, see what's going, yeah?
18:17Because of the elimination, we just want to really get going now and get into Cambodia.
18:21Every minute counts, doesn't it?
18:22Yeah.
18:22We've got to try and catch up for six hours.
18:23I want to know, like, what jobs are down here?
18:27I don't know, because I don't understand it.
18:30Obviously, the guide and everything for Bridie's really frustrating because of her dyslexic.
18:35This is hard.
18:37What do you think?
18:38It definitely is a responsibility.
18:40I'm about to fight for her, and I will carry on fighting for her.
18:44Of course I will, I'm her mum.
18:46She just wants to head as far as we can.
18:48Yeah, I just think, let's get down.
18:51We had to take the local authority to court because they couldn't find her a place in a state school
18:57that would meet her needs.
18:59We ended up getting Bridie into a special dyslexic school.
19:03Best fight I had.
19:04So, I'm not worried about the race.
19:07Nothing's going to stop me.
19:08Can we just get a train down to here?
19:10I think so, and then just let's try and work it out ourselves.
19:13Yeah.
19:14We've been through a lot together, me and my mum.
19:17She's had my back on everything.
19:19Right.
19:20Yeah, I just felt stressed because it's so hard, Zona.
19:24She's there supporting me, and we can share these experiences together.
19:28Hello, can you help me?
19:30Do you want to come right down to here?
19:32Say one.
19:33Yeah.
19:33What's the next one?
19:36So, you're telling me it takes two days?
19:42Yeah, let's do it.
19:44Yeah, I think so.
19:45The third team to commit their fate to the Vietnamese rail system?
19:49Bridie and Sharon are planning on a much longer journey than any of their competitors.
19:531,700 kilometres direct to Ho Chi Minh City.
19:58A journey of 36 hours.
20:02I'm relieved that we've booked our ticket for tomorrow.
20:05I think you just need a good night's sleep.
20:07I feel way better now.
20:08Yeah.
20:11Whilst mother and daughter must wait to catch the train, their nearest rivals are inching along
20:17the coast.
20:22I don't know whether the bus was any faster or slower, but we've seen buses overtake us on
20:28the road.
20:29But it's a very long distance, so who knows?
20:33Putting their faith in buses...
20:36We got the shape of Vietnam wrong.
20:38We thought we travelled further last night than we actually did.
20:42Isabel and Eugenie have plotted their route into Cambodia.
20:47Missing a map caused a few issues.
20:49It's not the bed that I was expecting.
20:53But now we've located all the towns that we need to get to Pleiku and through the border.
20:59On the same course...
21:02Should complete objective one.
21:04Getting there tomorrow morning.
21:06Yeah, very pleased.
21:08800 kilometres further south...
21:10Excuse me, do you know where the old town is?
21:12That way, yeah?
21:13All right, thank you.
21:14Legend, thank you so much.
21:16Alfie and Owen have left the rail network behind to arrive in the coastal city of Hoi An.
21:26A lot of lanterns around, which is an item that's very close to my heart.
21:32Just thinking about maybe just taking a minute to myself.
21:35Yeah, go for it mate.
21:39When my mum passed away, we'd set one off every year with a message attached.
21:44So to be able to kind of reignite that would be incredible.
21:49Lanterns have become synonymous with the city.
21:54Locals consider their light to be a symbol of life and releasing them onto the river, a way of paying
22:00respects to ancestors.
22:10So my mum gave birth to me and then it was while she was breastfeeding me that they found out
22:19that there was a dysfunction in her breast.
22:20And she'd got a special case of stage four breast cancer.
22:26This was the memory box and it was something that my mum made for me just before she died.
22:34They gave her six weeks to live and it was her number one aim that she said,
22:39well, if I'm going to die, then I'm going to at least die while she's in school.
22:43So she managed to take me to school on the first day.
22:48I think this was a very proud day for her.
22:54It was genuinely just a deterioration from there.
22:57And I think that she'd kind of pushed it as far as she could in terms of battling on.
23:02And then she kept on, she kept on hanging on and then hanging on and then, yeah, Christmas of 2008.
23:08It was probably just a, probably just a step too far.
23:15So I was five when my mum passed away in December of 2008.
23:25This is kind of the first opportunity on the race that I've had to think about my mum
23:29and I'm just inundated with emotions.
23:32I've just not felt since I was genuinely like a little kid.
23:40I just kind of want that sensation of being able to see her again.
23:43Oh!
23:54Oh!
23:57Oh!
23:59Oh!
24:02Oh, my God!
24:14I do just, I still, even though I've tried to not admit it,
24:18I do miss her intensely and I just still dream of what was.
24:33Get a grip.
24:44Hello, how was that?
24:46Yeah, it was all right, it was nice.
24:47Yeah?
24:48Did you get to do the lantern or...?
24:50Yeah, it was weird though, because you put it on the water rather than the air,
24:53but it was nice.
24:54Yeah, it was something different.
24:56It's still a lantern at the end of the day, innit?
24:58Yeah, it was nice.
24:59Still has the same meaning, I guess, so that's good.
25:01Yeah, good. Should we move?
25:03Yeah.
25:04Getting on the move to Ho Chi Minh is the absolute top priority.
25:07Let's go.
25:08Let's go.
25:10She would kill me if we did get eliminated, especially in the position we are.
25:23Let's go.
25:246am.
25:25Right, come on, let's go on this train.
25:26Let's go.
25:28Sharon and Bridie catch their direct train from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.
25:32How are you going to get over there?
25:33Because I'm going to get down, that's what I'm worried about.
25:36Settling in for 36 hours on a journey that they hope will propel them out of fifth place.
25:43It's one way of getting time through Vietnam, innit?
25:53Oh, the water's literally coming in.
25:56Almost 800 kilometres ahead...
25:58What the hell is going on?
26:00Betty and James have reached Da Nang, seeking shelter in a cafe nearest the bus station.
26:07Oh, my God!
26:09Yes!
26:10Do it for the bike, people!
26:11Go on!
26:12Yeah, go on!
26:13Woo!
26:14Woo-hoo!
26:15As they depart from the tourist route, they're forced to wait 12 hours until the next bus west.
26:21It's a bit annoying because we wanted this part, like, Vietnam to be, like, race, race, race,
26:24but it just feels like we've just sat, sat, sat.
26:27So, yeah, frustrating is the word, I think.
26:30But it's a rat!
26:31Woo!
26:31Woo!
26:32Woo!
26:32Woo!
26:33Woo!
26:36But they're not the only team seeking shelter from the storm.
26:40Oh, for goodness sake.
26:40Keep walking and keep your wits about you.
26:45No, stop.
26:46What the hell?
26:48Look, look, look, look.
26:49Oh, my God.
26:51Come here!
26:52I've not seen you in so long.
26:54I'm wet, aren't we?
26:55How you doing?
26:56Good, how are you?
26:57I'm good, I'm good.
26:58What were we, 18 hours behind them?
27:00Yeah.
27:02I'm actually buzzing, I can't lie.
27:06Like, the plan's worked, catch up, close the gap, we've obviously done that.
27:10Absolutely ideal.
27:11Bye!
27:13Oh, my God.
27:15Even though we know we're better than them, we just do.
27:18The sense of belief, I think we should take that forward.
27:21We can compete with the big boys, if you like.
27:23So they have maybe gone more direct and caught up with us?
27:27Yeah, because we made the error, basically, of having a pit stop yesterday.
27:32It's not good, is it?
27:33We just need to push food tomorrow, Mum.
27:36As the water rises...
27:38It's wet, Isabel.
27:39Oh, my gosh, Mum, I know.
27:40It's not that I don't know.
27:42The two teams board separate buses...
27:44OK, you're weird.
27:45Ah, thank you.
27:46..as they head to the border.
27:49Oh, my God, they're so bougie.
27:51TVs, headphones.
27:53This is good.
27:56Oh, I feel like I'm going to sleep so well on them.
27:58I hope so.
27:59Worth a £2 upgrade?
28:00£2 upgrade.
28:02100%.
28:02See ya!
28:03On your budget bus.
28:06This is just ridiculous.
28:09You got this, Mum.
28:11Come on.
28:11I haven't.
28:11Use that core strength.
28:13It's not about core strength, it's that the ladder's tiny.
28:16I can't even get my foot on it.
28:18You can't.
28:19Just put your stuff on.
28:24It's not funny, is it?
28:35No, I had a sore hip, and I couldn't get comfy.
28:39I don't know whether Vietnamese bodies are built differently from ours,
28:43but, gosh, the contours of the seats aren't in the right place, are they?
28:47It doesn't work, does it?
28:48So I think we got probably two to three hours sleep last night.
28:53After nearly 30 hours, Stephen and Viv's mammoth train journey is almost at an end.
29:02After so long sat still, and knowing it's an elimination leg...
29:08..the pair can finally spring into action.
29:11Oh!
29:12This is seriously kinky.
29:16Oh, my.
29:17Oh.
29:23This is lovely, isn't it?
29:24Bliss, isn't it?
29:25Oh, I think I've been hurt.
29:27I know.
29:27Just...
29:28Yeah.
29:28...melting off the bits of travel.
29:30Ah!
29:33The race is frantic.
29:35Elimination leg and all.
29:36It's very competitive.
29:37We're very aware of our position.
29:39So this is a lovely time-out zone.
29:42Steady.
29:43Certainly for my health, the balance is critical.
29:47It's not nice.
29:48The body doesn't do what it used to do.
29:50Mm-hmm.
29:50It hurts more when you do things.
29:52I think you have to accept that, don't we?
29:54Oh, you do.
29:55We're not in our prime anymore, are we?
29:57There might only be, you know, 20 years left, if we're lucky.
30:01All right.
30:02Um...
30:02Well, come on, let's be honest.
30:03I was only given 20 years, 18 years ago.
30:06So you've got another two or three years.
30:08Yeah.
30:09Can't imagine that.
30:12I was at school running up the stairs to go to the geography department.
30:16Yeah.
30:17Felt a bit out of breath, felt a bit awkward.
30:19Came back to the staff room.
30:21Went to the doctors.
30:22The doctor put an ECG on me and said straight away, lie still, don't move.
30:25Call an ambulance, blue lights, and off it went.
30:29It was a heart attack.
30:33I'm sure you'll beat the odds.
30:35I wouldn't want to live without you.
30:41The whole essence of growing old, it's feeling vulnerable and feeling insecure,
30:47needing other people to support you, to help you, to look after you.
30:52I would not survive on my own.
31:00It felt we dawdled on the train.
31:02Now it's the cruel realisation that we have to get our skates on.
31:07Ugh.
31:09Come on, Chuck.
31:10Bags on.
31:11We just have to put everything into it and just go as fast as we can
31:15and spend the money if we need to.
31:17Bus station.
31:18Get race mode again.
31:19Get moving.
31:20It would be super if we could get third.
31:22Coming fifth is just not an option.
31:24Checkpoint, here we come.
31:29What time to Campuchia?
31:31Campuchia, Banlong.
31:32Banlong.
31:33What time do we arrive in Banlong?
31:35300 kilometres north.
31:37I see our competitors.
31:38Oh, they're getting on it too then.
31:40Two teams are hoping the bus they are boarding takes them to Banlong,
31:44across the border into Cambodia.
31:47One hour to Banlong.
31:49Do you go and see what's happening?
31:50Go on, Mum.
31:51Go and stand, listen.
31:52What did you just find out?
31:55This bus does not go to Banlong.
31:57Does it not?
31:58It goes to the border and stops.
32:06Why are you, why are you doing that?
32:10Why are you shaking your head?
32:12Did you not want us to know?
32:13He's a liar.
32:15Oh, is he lying?
32:18He's very competitive.
32:20One of us got a win.
32:20Not like that.
32:22How would you not want to throw your competitive off track?
32:24Why not just not say anything?
32:26Why not?
32:29This leg's all been about race and that's my mentality throughout.
32:32If it does mean, you know, a little white lie now and again,
32:34then I'm more than happy to sort of do that.
32:36Right, come on.
32:37I've always known that James has been competitive.
32:39I'm probably a bit more of, like, a people pleaser,
32:41whereas he's, like, not really that arse.
32:44I don't like feeling competitive.
32:46But we know people can be like that.
32:48It is what it is.
32:52The word I'm going to use is sincerity.
32:59With a six-hour bus journey paid for,
33:03Betty and James turned to their finances.
33:05We've not tracked our budget since day five.
33:07I'm thinking we've got, like, 50% of the budget left,
33:10which is a bit scary considering we might have, like, six legs left.
33:15We can pack a few hours' work in as a rubber tapper on a rubber plantation.
33:21So that could work.
33:23Job's a good one.
33:24Job is a good one.
33:25Hopefully it's a good one.
33:26Cash in our pocket.
33:27Then on to chat point.
33:30Along the coast to the north.
33:32This train's got us right down Vietnam.
33:35But it strikes on, doesn't it?
33:37It does.
33:39And all you can do is literally walk up and down the carriage.
33:43Sharon and Bridie are 20 hours into the 36-hour journey to the south of Vietnam.
33:51We've got to get straight down to the melons.
33:53They're the biggest floating market in the region.
33:574.30 to 8.30.
34:01That's really early.
34:03They're considering a job at an all-night market
34:05after some swift sightseeing in Ho Chi Minh City.
34:09The work is on the way to checkpoint,
34:11meaning they could top up their funds on their journey
34:13without losing travel time.
34:15Then we'll just go taxi from there to the platform.
34:19I'm quite excited about that.
34:20I am, actually.
34:22We've got our road ride.
34:23We've just got to embrace it.
34:36Cambodia!
34:37Half country.
34:39Two teams have reached the Kingdom of Cambodia.
34:42Ooh, the modes are different here.
34:46A country that has ancient roots with the Khmer Empire,
34:49but also a new burgeoning modernity,
34:52epitomised by the large cities in the south, such as Phnom Penh.
34:58But between there and the teams crossing the border in the north,
35:02by 550 kilometres of jungle, wild plains and rice paddies,
35:09sparsely populated with few travel options.
35:13Can you help us get somewhere?
35:15Today you're a little bit...
35:17I know.
35:18Can you try your best?
35:19OK.
35:20Limited even further,
35:22as today is the first day of the Cambodian national holiday,
35:25Chomben,
35:26when families head home en masse
35:29to pay respects to their ancestors.
35:33Do you not want to leave tomorrow?
35:35No, we need to leave today.
35:37We've got to get there tonight.
35:38Do you help us get there?
35:39I think we might have messed up by detouring this way.
35:46Because I can picture other teams are going to go more touristy,
35:49backpacker route,
35:50where there will be better transport.
35:52So these errors are quite worrying.
35:55While Eugenie and Isabelle search for ways to Phnom Penh...
35:59We've come to work, hopefully.
36:02Looks like it might be right now.
36:06Deeper into the Cambodian countryside...
36:08Where's the sun?
36:09..Betty and James' hopes of earning some cash
36:12at Tell's Rubber Plantation have hit a problem.
36:15We cannot do anything.
36:16No work today.
36:18Yeah.
36:18No work.
36:19Yeah.
36:20Well, we joked about the offshore weather far too much
36:24and it has shot us in the past
36:26because everywhere we've been, it's rain.
36:30Torrential.
36:31Like, this is the river.
36:32This was a road when we arrived.
36:35And the scale of the downpour
36:36means there is no way to leave the village till morning.
36:40Can't get back to the town.
36:42We don't get paid.
36:44A little bit stuck, aren't we?
36:46Ah!
36:49What should we do?
36:50Yeah, stay at home.
36:51So we can stay?
36:52Yeah.
36:53Oh, really?
36:54Yeah, thank you soon.
36:55Is that OK?
37:02Unfortunately, we weren't able to work,
37:04but I think the kindness again of people is showing through.
37:07I think that's been the thing throughout the whole race so far.
37:10It's been amazing, really.
37:11Is this ginger? Ginger?
37:14Mmm.
37:15Smells nice, though.
37:18Just got to be grateful for, you know, the roof over our head.
37:21It's free.
37:22So, just being thankful for that, really.
37:25Well, I definitely wanted to work.
37:26We were banking on working for money.
37:28Yeah.
37:28Yeah.
37:29But, this in itself, seeing how they lit the Haldes.
37:33The little community is experiencing itself.
37:35Look at the kids.
37:37They love it.
37:38I kind of just want to go play like everyone else.
37:42Aww.
37:44We used to play, like, mudslide in the rain at home.
37:55Mmm.
37:55Yes.
37:56Me and James love our food.
37:57Thank you, everyone.
37:59Thank you so much.
38:03Mmm.
38:03Mmm.
38:04Mmm.
38:05Coming here to the back end of nowhere, it is a massive risk because it's taken us off,
38:11like, the path to get straight to Checkpoint.
38:14We haven't worked, which obviously we thought was going to give us a little bit of budget to keep us
38:18going.
38:19But, like, the hospitality has been, like, nothing but, like, amazing.
38:23Like, it's given us, like, such an enriched experience that we could never have, like, even imagined coming here.
38:30It's basically, it saved us today.
38:33With two teams in Cambodia, but going nowhere.
38:40440 kilometres further south in Vietnam.
38:43Oh, mate.
38:46Have you ever been anywhere like this before?
38:48I don't know where to look.
38:49Alfie and Owen are immersing themselves in Ho Chi Minh City's nightlife.
38:54Hello.
38:54Hello.
38:57Formerly called Saigon and named for the first president of the Vietnamese Republic, affectionately known as Uncle Ho.
39:05And today, the country's most visited city, not least for its hedonistic nightlife.
39:13We're working.
39:14Oh, OK.
39:14Yeah, we're working.
39:16Welcome to Herbert Rock.
39:18Tonight is going to pass.
39:19OK.
39:20Let's get going.
39:21Yeah, sweet. Sounds good.
39:24It's absolutely rammed.
39:26It's kind of just chaos, but it's fun.
39:28It's, like, electric.
39:30Cheers, bro.
39:33I can quite safely say this has been the best job I've ever had.
39:39I don't know what's going on.
39:41It's just so busy.
39:43Oh, my God.
39:45How has my life come to going pubbing?
39:48I just don't get it.
39:50It's not me in the slightest.
39:52It's because I don't drink.
39:54The best part of the night has just been seeing how Owen's taken to it because we're going to do
39:58this together and we're going to try and win this thing together.
40:03Sometimes I've been rushing through, not letting Owen experience it, so I think letting him kind of take some responsibility
40:09for our route has ultimately led to him enjoying something.
40:14Even the manager started dancing with me. Why not, man?
40:18Getting opportunities that will remain with us forever is what this shit's about, so I'm really, really proud of us
40:23both for this leg.
40:27Let's go, Evan.
40:29We need to keep going.
40:35Oh, my God.
40:37Oh.
40:40I do not feel like boarding a six-hour bus to Camerodeo right now.
40:44Well, we don't have choice. Let's just pull that.
40:45Ah, you .
40:52My head hurts.
40:54Come on.
40:55Ultimately, it is an elimination leg.
40:57We know that everyone's going to pull everything out about plucking taxis out their arse left, right and centre.
41:02I'm very confident, but there is a world where we go home.
41:06I really hope that doesn't happen.
41:08Do you have, like, any paracetamol?
41:18Oh, it's hot.
41:19Let's get out of here.
41:21Exit.
41:23After 36 hours, Bridie and Sharon's gargantuan train journey to Ho Chi Minh City is at an end.
41:31And as morning breaks, they have time to experience some of its charm.
41:36Oh, my God. Look at the meat just hanging like that.
41:41Is it a snake or an eel?
41:44Pretty cool.
41:46Mine's beyond when we go, like, bike racing with Dad.
41:49And then a kid's on it.
41:50Yeah.
41:50Or a dog.
41:51Yeah.
41:53Isn't it mental?
41:54It is, isn't it?
41:56Wouldn't have thought that we would be at Vietnam.
41:57I didn't expect that in a million years.
42:00I suppose all the journeys you take and all the decisions you make
42:03gets you to where you end up.
42:06I feel like we've done well on the race.
42:08Hopefully we can sneak in number four.
42:11You ready to get going?
42:12Let's get a taxi to the bus station.
42:14Let's do it.
42:14Let's go and find these melons.
42:16As they head south to implement their plan to work overnight
42:20in eastern Cambodia.
42:22We're looking for a bus to Phnom Penh.
42:25Eugenie and Isabel have inched closer to Checkpoint,
42:28but still have 370 kilometres to cover.
42:33She can do it.
42:34$180.
42:36Oh, you win.
42:37We haven't got that, have we?
42:38Well, you don't need to say that.
42:40It's really important for us to get that tonight.
42:42We're very far from Phnom Penh.
42:44Our lead is no longer really a lead,
42:46particularly because Bessie and James caught up with us.
42:48It's too much.
42:49Yeah, it's crazy.
42:50But it might be that we do that.
42:56PHONE RINGS
43:02Phnom Penh?
43:04This way.
43:06OK.
43:07To the south, Alfie and Owen are the third team to reach Cambodia
43:12at the border village of Ka Am Sam Noor.
43:15We now need to make our way over to Phnom Penh.
43:18We've been told it's over 100 kilometres away.
43:20We don't really know where to go from here.
43:22We're just going to try and walk for a bit,
43:24ask some people along the way.
43:27Yeah, how?
43:30We just need to get somewhere
43:32where there's a bit more civilisation
43:34and more chance of getting some transport onwards.
43:39And, obviously, with the elimination that came in,
43:41who knows what this time will cost us.
43:52Oh, they're selling all our tickets.
43:55With Cambodia presenting forward travel issues,
43:58at the back of the pack and still in Vietnam,
44:01Stephen and Viv in Da La.
44:03We are trying to get to Phnom Penh
44:05and we need to get as close to the border as possible.
44:08Is there a bus tonight?
44:10OK.
44:11So, can we go to Ho Chi Minh?
44:12What time does it arrive?
44:1311.
44:14OK.
44:15Booked on a bus to Ho Chi Minh City,
44:17they'll arrive in the middle of the night.
44:19What does that mean in terms of our other transport?
44:22We haven't put any other transport yet.
44:24When finding onward travel from there to the border
44:27could be problematic.
44:29We just have to work on people on the bus.
44:33I'm going to start here, I think.
44:39Help me, please.
44:40Do you speak English?
44:42Sorry.
44:42I am still very worried that other teams are ahead of us.
44:46We just don't know.
44:48We haven't seen sightless out of them.
44:50We've got to get in this race
44:51and we've got to stay in there.
44:54Walking up and down the bus
44:55and asking people to help me
44:56is one of the few things I can actually do
44:58to effect change.
45:00Easy choice.
45:01You get on with it.
45:05Oh, dear.
45:06I know.
45:07Keep trying, darling.
45:10Oh, hello.
45:11Hello.
45:12Excuse me.
45:13You speak some English.
45:14I desperately need some help.
45:16I'm trying to get to Chao Dock.
45:18OK.
45:19On the last bus this evening.
45:21Is there any way you can help me
45:22to book two bus tickets
45:24from Ho Chi Minh, Saigon?
45:27Yeah.
45:27Can you buy the tickets for me
45:29and I give you money?
45:30Oh, brilliant.
45:32What's your name?
45:33Steven.
45:34Steven.
45:35What's your name?
45:3712pm?
45:38Yeah.
45:38Tonight?
45:39Thank you very much.
45:42Oh, God.
45:43I think we've done this.
45:44I'm amazed.
45:45Well done.
45:46Well, it might be the difference.
45:48It might be, yeah.
45:50It's exhausting.
45:52With Steven and Viv heading to Ho Chi Minh City
45:55and then onwards to the border,
45:57Owen and Alfie are still stuck on the other side.
46:00I think we're pretty stuffed right now,
46:02but I mean, yeah, it's all a great situation.
46:10Should've up.
46:13Hello.
46:14Do you speak any English?
46:15Yes.
46:16We're trying to get to Phnom Penh.
46:17Is there a main road?
46:19All right.
46:19He's calling someone.
46:22Hello?
46:24Hello.
46:26Yeah.
46:27Yes, please.
46:27To a bus station?
46:33Oh, are you going to Phnom Penh?
46:40We want to go to Phnom Penh.
46:43For the teams still struggling in the north.
46:47Maybe I can drive you.
46:48To Phnom Penh?
46:49Yeah.
46:50I'm taxi driver.
46:51A last resort.
46:52How much would that be?
46:54125, yeah.
46:55Oh.
46:56We can earn money back.
46:57We can't earn this back.
46:58It's up to you.
46:59OK, let's do it.
47:00It's elimination stage.
47:01We just had to spend that money to get to checkpoint.
47:04If and when we can carry on,
47:06we'll just earn it back with work.
47:09Hallelujah.
47:09Amen.
47:10I believe that we'll be either first or second.
47:14Do you want to come in before Betty and James?
47:17And this is karma.
47:18This is karma, James.
47:21Three teams are finally closing in on the checkpoint.
47:33We are here.
47:36On the banks of the mighty Mekong River, Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh.
47:43Let's do this.
47:45Last to sign in will be eliminated from the race.
47:50Proceed to what's non by any available means.
47:52Find the clock and await further instructions.
47:55We need to move.
47:57Wap non.
47:59Right.
48:01Yeah, it's through there to the left on the floor.
48:04In for nothing.
48:06Oh, God.
48:06Come on.
48:07OK.
48:08Get a move on.
48:09Oh, here we go.
48:10You've got the rucksack, haven't you?
48:12The little one.
48:12Yeah.
48:14Clock this way.
48:17How do we get in?
48:18It's literally locked.
48:19It's not open.
48:19It's not open.
48:20We've walked around the wrong way, I think.
48:22Can you see it?
48:24Maybe we've gone the wrong way.
48:25I think it's that.
48:27Can you see it?
48:29We've basically walked around the whole thing before finding an actual entrance.
48:34It's there.
48:35Oh, my God.
48:37I presume it's the clock that was, like, on the slope.
48:39Yeah, it's massive.
48:40You can't really mess it up.
48:41Yeah, this is definitely it.
48:43Take a tuk-tuk across the Japanese bridge to Yukta Park.
48:46Find Niang Prak Barami, the clever woman.
48:50Oh, my God.
48:51We're ready to go.
48:53Come on, come on, come on.
48:55Oh, no.
48:56Could you imagine if it was a race of the tuk-tuks?
49:01My God.
49:02It's a long way.
49:03I don't even know where it could be from here.
49:05Yeah, I know.
49:05Oh, I'm hoping this is really obvious.
49:08We're getting fast.
49:09Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.
49:11Woo-hoo!
49:12Crank it up, pal.
49:13Got a race to win it.
49:17To the south.
49:19Let's go sell some watermelons.
49:21Let's get it.
49:21Bridie and Sharon set to work at the Canto floating all-night market.
49:26Beautiful.
49:27You thought, get up early, get some money back, head off quick.
49:33You've got to stack them up, right?
49:34Yeah.
49:35Oh, look at that.
49:37Teamwork.
49:38Make the green work.
49:39Oh, lovely.
49:40I suggest we don't dawdle.
49:43One hundred and sixty kilometres to the east.
49:45Steven and Veve hunt for their connecting bus to the border.
49:49Ciao, Doc, bus.
49:50No.
49:51The clock's ticking.
49:53Steven did an amazing job of booking this bus.
49:55This has definitely given us a fighting chance of staying in.
49:59Ciao, Doc.
50:00Five eighty-six.
50:01Yes.
50:03Right, I think this is it.
50:05Yeah.
50:05Clever woman.
50:07Take the Riverside path to the soccer hotel keeping the river to your right, so we've got
50:11to war.
50:13Oh, I see it.
50:13I see it.
50:14I see it.
50:14Does it say soccer on here?
50:15Yeah, it does.
50:16Yeah, yeah.
50:16There.
50:17You can see it from here.
50:18Oh, my God, it's miles away.
50:19No, it's not.
50:19Oh, Mum, it's right at the end.
50:22At the confluence of the Tonle Sap and Mekong Rivers, the third checkpoint.
50:33Come on.
50:33I'm coming.
50:34No, you're doing well.
50:35I'm feeling confident.
50:36I'm feeling confident.
50:37He's going to come back and have egg on our face, but I'm feeling really confident.
50:40If someone's done better, then fair play.
50:41Fair play.
50:42Buster.
50:42No.
50:42He's literally there.
50:44100 metres max.
50:46We're on the front of it.
50:47Okay.
50:50Oh, my gosh.
50:52I think we're there.
50:53Come on.
50:53I need to drag my face.
50:54No, just come on and walk.
50:56Go.
50:56What are you doing?
50:57You can drag.
50:59That actually works.
51:03Hello.
51:07Hello.
51:08Hello.
51:10This is my phone.
51:11I'm coming.
51:11I'm coming.
51:12I'm coming.
51:12I'm coming.
51:12Hello.
51:13Thank you very much.
51:14What do you think?
51:15Go on.
51:16We'll do it.
51:16Are we going home?
51:17I'm confident, but...
51:20Come on.
51:21Yes.
51:22Nice one, mate.
51:22Well done.
51:24Yes.
51:25Go on.
51:26Fuck it down.
51:26Let's go.
51:28I think especially because we went to two really cool places this time, the fact we've balanced
51:31that and still managed to come first is like, yeah, we've really fine-tuned how we do things,
51:36I feel.
51:36Yeah.
51:37Well done, mate.
51:38You can't hug with bags.
51:40No, it's impossible.
51:40It's not a thing.
51:41Ultimately, we're safe and now we need to win.
51:45Oh!
51:47Grab and not last.
51:48Yeah.
51:49Not going to be eliminated.
51:53I'm really pleased.
51:54We're second to our favourite boys, Alfie and Erin.
51:59And they're not ahead that much in terms of time.
52:01Yeah, it's about an hour and a half.
52:01About an hour and a half.
52:02I mean, they could jog down there in five minutes.
52:04Yeah.
52:06Sorry about the sticks.
52:09Okay, thanks.
52:10Oh my God.
52:11Oh.
52:13Well, we made it for another leg.
52:14I know, elimination.
52:16Buzzing.
52:17Yeah, buzzing.
52:18Plan worked pretty much to perfection.
52:20I think it'd be good to find some work next leg, earn back a little bit of that money
52:23that we've spent.
52:24Thank goodness.
52:25Well done.
52:26Nice.
52:27Oh, you're so sweaty.
52:28Gross.
52:30With three teams checked in, whoever signs in last will be going home.
52:40Throw it.
52:41Throw it.
52:42Keep going, Brad.
52:43Keep going.
52:43Go.
52:44You next.
52:46That's it.
52:46All gone.
52:49Oh, thank you.
52:51Thank you very much.
52:54Just done.
52:55I just want to get to that checkpoint now.
52:57Okay.
52:58Is this the border?
53:00The border, no.
53:01No.
53:02So, this is a bus station.
53:08How do I get to the border?
53:11That's the...
53:12Is there a boat?
53:13The boat.
53:14Yes.
53:15There is a boat.
53:16Which is faster.
53:18The boat.
53:19We're in a race.
53:2130 kilometres away, lies a ferry that goes all the way up the Mekong River to Phnom Penh,
53:27but only once a day.
53:32650,000.
53:38Do you remember last thing?
53:39Get a taxi to Check Point, right?
53:43Will you go now?
53:44Yeah.
53:45Let's go.
53:46I'm going to get straight across that border, get to Check Point.
53:49This is our splash in the cache.
53:54It looks like we've just arrived at a ferry.
53:56Are we going on it in the car?
53:57Yes.
53:58I don't think this is the border.
54:00It's just a ferry across this next bit.
54:03I have no idea if we're going the right way.
54:05I'm 100% with you on that one.
54:07Not a clue.
54:07Yeah.
54:08Just total guesswork.
54:12Even though I think we done well this leg,
54:14it's when we start saying things go well, it goes wrong in our race.
54:16Let's just keep it on a low.
54:23Now be careful.
54:24Two hands, hold on.
54:25I'm not coming in there to fetch you out.
54:28How long is the boat to Phnom Penh?
54:30Phnom Penh.
54:31Phnom Penh.
54:31Three hours.
54:31Three hours.
54:32Wow.
54:35I'm getting anxious now.
54:36I don't want to go home.
54:37I don't want to go home either.
54:38A long way to go.
54:39And I want more of this.
54:42Yeah.
54:44Just got to get there now.
55:00Where's the reception desk?
55:02Where's the reception desk?
55:03Where's the book?
55:04Where's the book?
55:04What do you think, darling?
55:05Have we done it?
55:06Have we done it?
55:08Have we done it?
55:11Hello.
55:12Oh, where are we?
55:13Where are we?
55:14Where are we?
55:14I don't look.
55:15I don't look.
55:21Oh, we did it.
55:23Only just.
55:24I did it.
55:25Sheesh.
55:25Only just, though.
55:27Delighted.
55:27Absolutely thrilled.
55:29Relieved to be still in the race.
55:31Vitality.
55:32Oh, shit.
55:33Oh, God, you're sweet.
55:34I know.
55:35I'm dripping.
55:37So we've gamed on the leaders, but we've stayed exactly the same with Betty and James.
55:41That's true, actually.
55:42We have gamed on the leaders.
55:44With Stephen and Viv safely signed in, Brady and Sharon's time in the race is at an end.
55:54I spot someone coming round the corner.
55:57Hello.
55:59Hello.
55:59Good morning.
55:59Fancy seeing you here.
56:01Hello.
56:02It's OK.
56:03Hello.
56:04I'm glad to see you.
56:04They're winning teams.
56:05Hey.
56:06I don't think it's hit in yet.
56:08It's one mistake and that's it.
56:11Game over.
56:11We still don't know how close Sharon and Brian were to beating us.
56:15No.
56:15Oh, no!
56:17Aw.
56:20Aw.
56:21I'm so sorry for you.
56:22Hello.
56:23How are you?
56:25Unfortunately, someone's got to go and...
56:27It's our time.
56:28It was our time.
56:29So, yeah.
56:30I feel for you.
56:31If we're totally honest...
56:32We found this leg really hard.
56:33Yeah.
56:34We've always wondered, how are you getting on this?
56:35He's been...
56:36Excuse my language.
56:37He's bloody hard.
56:38Because our way of getting about is communication.
56:41Yeah.
56:42Which is part of the world.
56:44Yeah.
56:44I think it's meant for me just to have time with my mum.
56:47We had, like, an amazing three weeks together.
56:48We just shared that together.
56:50That's what it meant to me in the race.
56:51Yeah.
56:51I would've cried.
56:52I think they've embraced their time together maybe a bit more than we have so far.
56:57And I think that we need to learn from that going forward.
57:00Use that time a bit more to understand one another.
57:02Well done, guys.
57:03It's so nice to see you.
57:04I'm so proud of you.
57:05What I've really got out of the race is just showing my mum.
57:09I can do things without her.
57:10Oh, look at you.
57:11You're crying already.
57:12All my life skills that she's gave me.
57:14I am growing up and I've got this.
57:16I've got that out of the race.
57:18Oh.
57:18Yeah.
57:21I just think you're really strong and you should be really pleased with yourself.
57:25And I'm proud of you.
57:26Oh, dear.
57:27So it's down to four.
57:29Now we're the bottom of the pack.
57:31Oh, God.
57:34I've got a feeling me and you're going to fall in love with Thailand.
57:37I feel like I am your punch bag.
57:41You know when you feel like you just want to throw in the towel?
57:44In my head, I plan my birthday a little bit differently.
57:47I'm old, but I don't feel old.
57:49There is life after your pension.
57:51Oh, my God.
57:52What?
57:53What?
57:54He loses his passport on.
57:55We're out.
57:57Being on the race with Betty, having those sort of moments where we feel emotional,
58:00it's not easy still.
58:02I feel sick.
58:03I actually feel sick.
58:04I'm just going to have to admit that we aren't getting to checkpoint.
58:06I don't know how we bounce back from this.
58:07We'll see you next time.
58:08We'll see you next time.
58:08Bye.
58:12Bye.
58:19Bye.
58:24Bye.
58:25Bye.
58:26Bye.
58:27Bye.
58:29Bye.
58:37You
