00:00We are here today with a very special guest, Ariel Winter.
00:03I'm so excited to chat with you today about all about Sophia the First.
00:08It's coming back.
00:08We were just saying it's the era, the era of reboots and bringing things, loved things back.
00:13I can't believe it's been 14 years since the show first came out.
00:17It's been eight years since it ended.
00:19What's it been like to step back into this character?
00:21It's been amazing.
00:22I mean, I'm so grateful to get to be Sophia again.
00:24She is such a beloved character, and I think she is just so wonderful.
00:28It's been amazing to be able to influence young generations of kids in such a positive way
00:35because she's just so kind and such a special character.
00:38She's brave and empathetic and just so lovely.
00:42And, yeah, it's just been wonderful to get to bring her back
00:45and know that I'm going to be able to do that again for new generations of kids.
00:49It's just wonderful.
00:50What can fans expect from this new series?
00:52How does it compare, contrast from the original?
00:55So we're very lucky that we have so many of our amazing original cast coming back.
00:59We are so grateful for that.
01:01They're incredible.
01:02But we now have so many amazing new cast members.
01:05They're wonderful.
01:06But Sophia goes on so many incredible new adventures.
01:08She's now at a school for royal magic.
01:10She has just learned that she is the most magical princess in the Ever Realm,
01:14which is obviously a big thing to put on her shoulders,
01:18but she is so strong and capable, and so that's going to be incredible for her.
01:22And we also have all of the princesses coming this time.
01:27We have Moana this season, which is so fun, and I'm very excited for her.
01:31So I think people are really going to love the show this year,
01:34and they're going to have so much to love about this one from the old show
01:39and new things about this one.
01:40Well, I have to say, you know,
01:41the iconic theme song is getting a little bit of a remix in this show.
01:45As we know, the original song has gone viral on TikTok,
01:47and if you listen to it once, it's in your head for the next, like, week,
01:50because that's currently what's in my head.
01:55How about we add a little bit of spice?
01:57Yeah.
02:02At what point did you realize how big the song had gotten,
02:05and what was your reaction when you realized, you know,
02:07this is going viral, this is a trend now?
02:09My nieces went to, like, this party a year ago,
02:11and then they got back to their friend's house, and they called me,
02:14and they were like, do-da, do-da, do-da,
02:16my friends want to rap the Sophia the First theme song for you.
02:19And my nieces at this time were, like, 16,
02:23and I was like, rap the Sophia the First theme song for me.
02:26I was like, what do you mean?
02:27They were like, yeah, they want to rap it for you.
02:29And I was like, I would love that.
02:30That's incredible.
02:31That sounds amazing.
02:32And their friends in the background were like,
02:33no, no, no, we can't do it.
02:34We can't do it.
02:34And I was like, no, please.
02:35And they rapped it for me, and it was amazing.
02:38And they were like, the show just meant so much to us.
02:40Like, we loved it.
02:40It's one of our favorite songs.
02:41And I was like, that's actually incredible.
02:43You guys are 16, that it still means so much to you.
02:45And this was before they knew that I was doing the new series.
02:50And I just, it, like, hit me in that moment.
02:52I was like, okay, wow, it is still so relevant to you.
02:55Like, you guys haven't, the show hasn't been on air for you guys in so long.
03:00But it still meant so much to them.
03:01You've done so much voiceover work over the years.
03:04Do you prefer that to, like, a live action setting?
03:07I don't know if I would say I prefer it.
03:09I think there's wonderful things about both.
03:10Like, what's great about voice work is you can go in your pajamas.
03:14You can do it anywhere.
03:15Like, I can work on camera in a different country and still do my voice work.
03:22But I don't know if I prefer one or the other.
03:24They're just very different.
03:26Like, voice acting is difficult in its own way.
03:31You know, you're bringing a drawing to life, so you have to emote totally through your voice,
03:35which can be kind of difficult.
03:36But for me, I started doing it so young that I just love it so much.
03:39I think it's so cool to bring an animation to life.
03:43So, I don't know.
03:44But then there's also on camera and you're working with the other actors.
03:49I think they're both great.
03:50There have been so many great actors who have voiced roles on Sofia the First.
03:54You know, Sarah Ramirez, you, Wayne Brady, even Sabrina Carpenter.
03:57You mentioned her before.
03:58She was on it back in the day.
03:59Did you guys ever work together or, like, you know, directly with each other during that time?
04:05We record separately.
04:06Okay.
04:06We record separately, which is a little bit sad, which is a little bit sad.
04:11Maybe we should all do a group record.
04:12That would be pretty fun.
04:13Eric Stonestreet.
04:14Yes.
04:15He's your modern family uncle.
04:16Yes.
04:16He's going to be back this season, too.
04:18He is.
04:18Have you guys touched base at all?
04:20You know what's so funny is Eric and I talk pretty frequently.
04:25And when he went back in the booth to record his minutes, he didn't tell me.
04:30And we were chatting about something else.
04:32And I was like, hey, I just went in to record.
04:35And they were like, Eric was just here.
04:36Why didn't you tell me?
04:37And he was like, oh, I just didn't think about it.
04:40And I was like, what the heck?
04:41I was like, why didn't you tell me?
04:43It's so funny the things that you talk about.
04:45It's like real family.
04:46Like, you talk about so many other things and then, like, work you just leave out.
04:49Yeah.
04:49And it's like, oh, okay.
04:51But it would be so fun to have Eric and I in the booth together.
04:54That would be awesome.
04:55You know, while we're on the topic, you recently shared that you and Nolan are living together.
04:58Yes.
04:59I love that.
05:00How did that come to be?
05:01What's that dynamic like?
05:03Are you guys like actual, like, brother and sister living in that house together?
05:06Nolan and I have grown up together.
05:08That is like, that is my family.
05:11That is my brother.
05:12Like, we are best friends.
05:15That is family to me.
05:16Like, to me, that is blood.
05:19We basically were just talking about, like, Nolan's a very nomadic person.
05:22So, he goes all over the place.
05:24And he was like, I want to be in L.A. for a bit.
05:27I don't know what I'm going to do.
05:29And I live, you know, between L.A. and another place.
05:33And I was like, I want to be in L.A. for a little bit.
05:35And then we just kind of had this moment where we were like, do we want to live together for
05:40a bit while we figure our life out?
05:42And he was like, that would actually be the best thing ever.
05:45Why have we never done this?
05:46And I was like, I don't know.
05:48And that's basically how it came to be.
05:50And we're honestly kind of the best roommates.
05:54Like, it works out pretty well.
05:55We just watch TV together, hang out.
05:58And he does his thing.
05:59I do mine.
06:00It's great.
06:00You said in a different interview that you guys have been watching Temptation Island.
06:04Are you ever tempted to go back and rewatch episodes of Modern Family with each other?
06:10Potentially, we've thought about it.
06:11We've thought about it.
06:12We've thought about it.
06:12Have you gone back and rewatched the whole show since then?
06:15I have actually never seen the whole show.
06:18Oh, my gosh.
06:19I've seen maybe three or four episodes of the show total.
06:22You're missing out.
06:22I know, right?
06:24But I might watch it.
06:25I've thought about it.
06:25And I know you said that the group chat is still alive and well.
06:28Yes.
06:29I know Sophia had previously said that Ed O'Neill is not super active in it.
06:33Is that true?
06:34He has been more active as of late.
06:36Okay.
06:36But he's so funny in the group chat.
06:38But, like, he'll send a message where you're not really sure, like, what it's leading to.
06:43But I think it's just, like, he'll send a message where you think it's, like, to one person.
06:47Like, he may be meant to send it to one person.
06:49But it's in the group chat.
06:51And it's never anything, like, personal.
06:53But he's just, like, he'll be, like, hey, Jesse, like, what's up with your show?
06:57And then it's, like, but it's, like, to everyone in the chat.
06:59And it's honestly my favorite thing.
07:00Like, Ed's one of my favorite people in general.
07:02He was always one of my favorite people on the show.
07:04Because he was just so funny and supportive.
07:06And, like, also just told it like it was.
07:08And I really appreciated that.
07:09So having him in the chat is pretty great that he's been more active in it as of late.
07:14I know everyone's always asking about a reboot.
07:16I want to ask if there was a reboot of any sort, whether that's a movie, another show.
07:20What would you want it to look like?
07:22I don't know what I would want it to look like.
07:24I mean, I think for me, like, we, I would just be happy to be together with him again.
07:30And I think they did such a great job creating the show the first time.
07:35And I think they would do a great job creating it again the second.
07:38So I'd just be happy to be a part of it.
07:40Absolutely.
07:40And I know, you know, you've gotten to spend so much of your life in this Disney family, working with
07:45Disney.
07:46You played Alex, obviously, for 11 years.
07:48Sophia I is now way over a decade.
07:50You even came back and reprised your role in Phineas and Ferb last year.
07:54What is it like for you to have this longevity with these beloved characters?
07:58It's everything.
07:59I mean, it's amazing to get to play a character for so long and to be asked to come back.
08:03And there's nothing better than that than knowing that you've made an impact and that people enjoy working with you
08:08and that you get to continue doing something you love and playing characters that you love.
08:12That's what you really hope for as an actor is to get to create something that people really enjoy and
08:17that makes an impact.
08:17So I'm grateful.
