00:00Craig Trudeau, Bloomberg's managing editor for global business coverage in the Americas joins us. And Craig, you've covered cars for
00:06us in Europe, in Asia, in the U.S.
00:11How is the market responding to this $640,000 EV? Not great. I mean, in short, I mean, this is
00:19just a vehicle that does not look very Ferrari-like.
00:22It has a lot of superlatives to it in terms of, you know, biggest, heaviest, you know, first five-seater
00:31as well.
00:32And yet, I think while there's a lot to like about the interior of this vehicle, I think the exterior
00:38in particular is getting a lot of polarizing reviews where people are comparing this to sort of, you know, a
00:44higher-end Nissan Leaf or a Honda, which is just not the sort of comparisons you like to hear if
00:50you're in Maranello.
00:51Or a bar of soap, even. Just with this, Craig, because you've seen a lot of the luxury car makers
00:57just back off and have varying strategies over EVs in general.
01:01So this car, what does it take for it to be successful? Can it not just have a handful of
01:06people or more than a handful who say, I want something unique on the road that shows that I've bought
01:11this Ferrari EV and that be enough to make this investment worthwhile?
01:14I do think that's a great question to sort of set expectations for this, where a lot of manufacturers have
01:20sort of, you know, swung and missed when it comes to higher-end electric vehicles.
01:25Ferrari, they don't necessarily have to sell a ton of these to, you know, sort of be able to sort
01:32of declare victory here.
01:34This is a model where, you know, I would suspect even in the range of like 500 units at the
01:40price they're looking for, they're going to be quite happy with that.
01:43And if you're setting up, you know, your sort of sales strategy at Ferrari to say that in order to
01:50sort of get an allotment for other vehicles that sort of Ferrari purists are more interested in, you have to
01:55have one of these.
01:57You're going to have some well-heeled consumers who are going to be more than happy to put in for
02:01this, even at that price point.
02:03People who aren't, you know, obsessive don't know that if you want to get the V12, the latest top-of
02:09-the-line Apex Predator Ferrari, you have to buy an entry-level model first.
02:14It's the Hermes model.
02:15They did the same thing.
02:15You want the best Birkin, you've got to buy a weird canvas one first.
02:18Exactly.
02:19But you can get an Amalfi for what?
02:21Like 300 grand, right?
02:22You don't need to be spending $650 on a car to get in to the $650,000 car club.
02:30Yeah, this is going to be fascinating to watch because I do think that, you know, there are a lot
02:36of people who are sort of, you know, reacting to this as sort of an abomination.
02:41And yet there are going to be some absolute, there will be some interest in, you know, getting the first
02:49Ferrari.
02:49It is, you know, a vehicle that is going to sort of make history for this company, you know, regardless
02:54of how the sort of instant reactions are to the looks of this vehicle.
