00:28lovely condition car sensible on the miles very very genuine little car 1992 Peugeot 205 GTI wow
00:37these are romping on dad have you seen this guess the mileage guess the mileage no more than 15,000
00:47oh
00:48you're right yeah level the smell give it away a wartime 1942 Harley-Davidson motorcycle yeah oh my
00:57God we've got some bids here don't come across many of these dear big V twins hey you gotta remind
01:04the
01:04Yanks really empty I mean they're make an ostentatious machine but at the same time it's purposeful in it
01:10I mean it's an amazing bit of kit the Matthewsons a dynasty of classic car auctioneers
01:2055 the joys of an auction most people will go to a sale with something in mind but come away
01:25with
01:25something different the fun is the chase we'll have a look and we'll advise you from there you
01:29just don't know what's on the end of the phone what are you gonna find when you open them doors
01:33this is a family's love affair with motors that have lived a life testing testing most people will
01:40buy a car because they can relate to it maybe a car that dad had you're selling dreams right here
01:46we
01:51go whoa whoa wait wait wait oh no I'll carry on with handbrake it's the start of another working
02:01week and Derek's already reached a state of inner bliss every Monday morning I go out a Monday
02:09particularly I go out and think to myself no matter where I'm going or what I'm doing and I think
02:14brilliant this I love this I've got this collection or whatever it might be to do today and then I've
02:23got the rest of the week to catch up with things and all the rest of it so it's the
02:27starting of a new
02:28week so I love Mondays I absolutely adore Mondays don't like Fridays you know you look back and you
02:34think we should have done a bit more I've underachieved this week I'm not done as well as I would
02:39have
02:39liked but on Mondays you're optimistic in front of you you know brilliant good old Derek hmm but
02:50there's every reason to be happy the garage is filling up nicely with space being made for a new
02:57arrival from just up the road a 1985 Rover SD1 the owners more than prepared to drive it over I
03:07can
03:07remember the first time I went out in one my dad took me out in one and then the dash
03:11was like
03:11something out of Concord at the time you know like this long as a kid they're like you know and
03:17the
03:17choke down by the you know down here by the handbrake with just about every other car I'd ever been
03:22in the
03:22choke was under the dash somewhere and yeah just great and I remember it being a v8 manual which is
03:28the ones I have really this one's a 2.6 I think that's coming in it looks absolutely lovely deep
03:37in
03:37rural North Yorkshire Alistair Broadwith is getting ready to say his goodbyes to an 80s classic and in
03:44doing so honor the memory of one of his closest chums it's a part or red it's a lovely color
03:54British
03:54Leyland they had some really good colors in the 1980s and this just epitomizes the 1980s what was
04:02coming out of Longbridge at the time when you said it when it be first set a portal I don't
04:07know
04:07why but I thought red wine well that's how I remember it because of port the Rover SD1 belonged
04:18to Mark Elliott Alistair's best buddy for the last 20 years who's recently passed away and being a
04:25van den Plaa it's luxury on wheels Mark was the third owner of this car it was originally a bank
04:33managers it's that sort of middle class you know 1980s scenario I mean the Germans they were the BMW 5
04:42series we had the the Rover range and VW they had the like the early Passats so and then there
04:51was the
04:51Audi's of course which were competition really for the Rover car and it's when Rovers were good
04:59and with it being a van den Plaa you know it's a little bit more plusher inside so you know
05:05you've
05:05got your piping the interior the roof is really good quite well appointed inside really we're going
05:12to pick her in and hopefully they're going to do a good job at selling this car for us
05:28oh look at these yeah something special aren't they wow look at that oversized and over here and
05:37lurking with the motorbike squad a 1940s military spec Harley Davison one of three that's been brought
05:44in big V twins hey you got to remind the yanks really empty I mean they're make an ostentatious
05:50machine but at the same time it's purposeful in it I mean when this is running along at 60 mile
05:55an
05:55hour it's probably only doing 1200 revs and it's like a like a great big V8 almost in this almost
06:01a
06:01V2 it's amazing bit of kit it's absolutely incredible yeah a little bit of a limited market
06:08amongst the older guys because I mean it's so big and so heavy to lug about but then again it's
06:14iconic
06:14and it's military makes a difference yeah clutch this side look at the head even that's made for
06:20army boots and the size of the thing and hand change I love hand change but of course our hand
06:26changes over here so it's left-hand drive it's a left-hand drive motorcycle how about that yeah oh
06:34yeah well I've got a big ass do you all get on here no no try yeah no sit on
06:40the front no go on
06:42no they won't get on there look what if I get my leg over it and don't I'll tell you
06:45the right go on
06:46no you're all right go on that's it yeah yeah easy rider and all of that you got it yeah
06:50yeah
06:50yeah marvellous she looks like an American cop got the uniform on look hey yeah she does look
06:58apart yeah Derek yeah no so I'm just checking if that is a stand but it's not I don't think
07:05it's a
07:05bomb I'm on me both feet you're all right it's not gonna right well we're done are we now yeah
07:09back on
07:18so a genuine wartime bike so I suppose it's gonna fall into the category of a willys Jeep and a
07:26good
07:26willys Jeep is 20,000 quid 25,000 for something that is absolutely stunning especially like a 1942 with
07:32proper wartime history these are those both will achieve quite that money but probably 15,000 quid
07:38on a good day this is a very niche market but an ever so strong market
07:51look at that paint with the sun coming off it blimey yeah that is nice while some vehicles have been
07:56to
07:56hell and back wowzers others have had it easy I saw it pull up on the on the lorry and
08:03I thought
08:04blimey that looks clean and then the more you look around it it is immaculate that is really nice isn't
08:09it look at the interior as well oh that's probably why I feel 11837 I'm not very good at maths
08:20but
08:20that's 11,837 I think isn't it blimey is that all it's done there'll be a lot of interest in
08:30a
08:31restored 1992 1.6 Peugeot 205 GTI a one owner motor that's been garaged for 18 years let's face it
08:41you
08:41know your stereotypical one what comes in they've all been used they're all all right you know they're
08:46all a little bit mediocre aren't they you know every now and then you get one yeah taking me by
08:52surprises a little bit it is lovely yeah dad have you seen this guess the mileage guess the mileage
09:02guess the mileage can I look at the seat you can have a look at the driver's seat but don't
09:08look at
09:08the dashboard you've got to stay from this angle Dave's getting the whiff of an underused car
09:13you can smell it that's likely to send the punters into a feeding frenzy no more than 15,000 oh
09:23you're
09:24right yeah 11 11 11 so you can the smell give it away yeah it's right away first thing you
09:30can tell
09:31yeah you're not gonna find a nicer one are you no no it is really really nice the vendors hoping
09:37for
09:37upwards of 25 grand everything looks correct and period on the car um so so should the wheels yeah
09:46um I would put 1.6 wheels on it straight away and I'll put a set of mud flaps on
09:50it straight
09:51off try and get the Peugeot mud flaps you still Peugeot 205 and I'll try and get them in yeah
09:55that's
09:56what I would do yeah and really just finish it off hang on it's my bank manager can I can
10:01I buy a Peugeot
10:05yeah there you are it all boils down to a sensible reserve at the end of the day it must
10:09be nearly
10:10the lowest mileage one in the in the UK surely and in this condition no it's going to be an
10:15interesting one but yeah no cause a lot of interest I'm sure the Sun's cracking the flags in North
10:35Yorkshire just the sort of day that lingers long in the mind and for a 40 year old Rover SD1
10:41it's one to
10:42remember to it is the final drive Alistair Broadwith is taking his best friend's motor for a final spin
10:49destination the Matthewsons auction quite emotional sort of the last connection I have with Mark's car
10:58but it's an honor and a privilege to do we're celebrating you know mark and it and how he loved
11:05the car I met Mark he was delivering parcels for us in our area he became sort of on the
11:15bit of the blue
11:16really because he'd seen the route master bus which I owned at the time not knowing that Mark his great
11:24passion in life was buses and especially London route master buses he was one of my best friends and you
11:32know I look at it now it was very hard you know a year ago when we lost mark and
11:38but I just have
11:39to be grateful for them 20 years that we spent together it was great it's not quite a Rolls-Royce
11:49but it's as good as you feel like you're on a nice ocean liner just cruising and that silky smooth
11:59six
11:59cylinder it just burbles away they were looked upon as a poor man's Jack but what makes this car a
12:08little bit of special Mark and me quite like the film Bob Sue and Rita too and of course what
12:17was in
12:17that film and a Porto Red Rover SD1 but it is a great film I think it's very fitting really
12:29that the
12:29family has sort of entrusted me to to look after the car and make sure it goes you know to
12:39the next
12:39home and custodian Mark would have loved it today going to Matthewson's Mark was quite emotional and
12:48I'm quite emotional and I think you know it's a fitting thing to take it on its last journey
13:05I think it's quite rare isn't it Harley Army bike there's been loads of interest in these old bikes
13:11they really have there must be something a bit special I don't see it myself like but
13:15as a rule no but one or two this sale actually have
13:21so they've entered the three Harley Davidsons brought them in one Saturday and he said I'll
13:25please get them in this ocean because I need a new roof so the money is funding his new roof
13:30it's
13:30like a church appeal isn't it really there might be a bit of dust on it it might have been
13:36stood
13:36around a little bit but but you know look look beyond look beyond so well that's right a little bit
13:43of
13:43stubble a bit overweight maybe possibly maybe a wartime 1942 Harley Davison motorcycle yeah oh my
13:59good we've got some bids here don't come across many of these dear right 13 4 13 6 13 8
14:0614 14 2 14 4
14:0914,000 six 114 14 7 14 8 who's got 9 are you all done? 14 9 15 15 15
14:2215 15 15 15 15
14:2415 15uis monna with on sale and selling then 15RP 1000 100 is the tool be quick 15 pledging
14:31in one hundred fifteen thousand one hundred for the first second third and last time if they in one thank
14:39Right, the hammer went down at 15 watts, there's a happy seller somewhere, isn't there?
14:44Maybe you could get a fatty roof, maybe it'll be gold-plated or something.
14:47He must have a fair roof.
14:49He's doubled his estimate, he'll be thrilled to bits.
14:52He'll be having double the depth of insulation in it now, it'll be a massive U-value.
14:58Now all that's sorted, there's collections to be made.
15:02And Derek's heading west, to the other side of the Pennines.
15:06The strange thing is, I'll spend more time in Bolton after like 10 o'clock at night
15:11than I have during the day, because it's one of them places
15:15that I call in and pick a car up on the way back,
15:19and it always seems to be evening time.
15:22So I've only really, really seen Bolton after dark,
15:26but they tell me that's the best time to view it, so we'll see.
15:32While Derek works on his application to join the Bolton Tourist Board,
15:36former bus driver Paul Hoskins is waiting with a pair of Triumphs,
15:41a two-tone Herald and a sporty Vitesse.
15:45I've had this car for 20 years, and the time I had it on the road and ran it and
15:52maintained it,
15:53I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
15:56Unfortunately, now the amount of work that's required on the Vitesse
15:59is beyond what I am physically capable of doing.
16:02And the Herald was purchased as a stopgap.
16:06But it's time now to have a complete change.
16:10Our family had standards and Triumphs for as long as I can remember.
16:17This is a 1963 Triumph Herald, which has a 1200 engine in it.
16:24We had one of the first Heralds off the production line in 1959.
16:30It was Litchfield green all over.
16:33Oh, it was horrible, because a Herald is crying out for the two-tone.
16:38It was a lovely car, but it would have been nicer if it was green and white.
16:41They might seem similar, but of the two, it's the Vitesse that's the nippy thoroughbred.
16:48I'd always fancied one simply through a comment that my dad made in 1962.
16:54He was reading this Sunday paper, and he saw the advert for the brand-new Vitesse,
17:00which was a Herald with a 1600 six-cylinder engine in it.
17:05And he looked at the advert, he took his glasses off, he looked at the advert,
17:09he put his glasses on again and looked at me and he says,
17:13good God, you wouldn't drive that, you'd point it.
17:18It was the grand tourer of the time.
17:21This particular model is what they call a single dial.
17:25It only has a speedo in it.
17:27And the salespeople at Triumph were having difficulty selling them,
17:33because the opposition had far more instrumentation.
17:38And within about 12 or 18 months,
17:41Triumph had put rev counters and other instruments in the dashboard.
17:46So the single dial ones now are actually quite rare.
17:50There's only 10 1962 models known to exist.
17:55So it's something special.
17:57It's time to have a change, I'm afraid.
17:59I can no longer stand the cold.
18:01A little bit of model railway, I've always been interested in railways,
18:06which I can work on in the house, in the warm,
18:09with a wee glass of scotch at the side of me.
18:12Oh, right. Well, in that case, I'd better come and film model railways
18:15and not stand out here in the cold filming your car then, am I?
18:18You're welcome any time.
18:31A few days ago, a very low-mileage Peugeot 205 tipped up.
18:37Clean, innit? Well, not clean, but clean.
18:41Now, look what else has landed.
18:43Is 4,000 open?
18:45Oh, it is 4,000. I didn't see the last, did you?
18:47Yeah, 4,987 mile.
18:50Now, innit?
18:58The Volvo 300 series might look as Swedish as meatballs,
19:02but its roots lie in the Netherlands
19:04when Volvo took over DAF's car-making division in the mid-'70s.
19:10It was an attempt to break into the compact car market,
19:13and early models used DAF's quirky transmission system.
19:17Unlike virtually every other car,
19:19it was basically propelled by a rubber band.
19:23Traditional engines soon took over,
19:26peaking with the two-litre four-cylinder 360,
19:28which was a gateway for many to the tank-like durability
19:32that became Volvo's hallmark.
19:40Well, that's a new car, innit, really?
19:43So that screams 4,000 mile, that, doesn't it?
19:47Yeah.
19:48All nice and puffed up, not saggy and horrible.
19:54It's probably worth six and a six and a half,
19:58but I can see it doing more.
20:00By the time we've cleaned it and sort of got it ready,
20:06it won't look far adrift.
20:07Just DAF little bits like that exhaust, look,
20:10that'd annoy me if it was mine,
20:12cos it's not the right colour and it's all rusty and horrible.
20:15Just DAF stuff like that.
20:16If you do them, it'll just finish it, just be lovely.
20:41Hello.
20:42Nice to meet you, Derek. You all right?
20:43Nice to meet you, Paul.
20:44Right, you're going.
20:46Derek's landed in Bolton to collect Paul Hoskins' two triumphs.
20:51This is a posh spot, John, innit?
20:53Aye.
20:54Bolton's gone up in my opinion.
20:56The Heralds are running, unlike the Vitesse,
20:59which hasn't moved in 15 years and needs some TLC.
21:03There's a starting procedure with this.
21:05If you leave it overnight or for a few days,
21:08pull the chalk fully out.
21:09Yep.
21:10When you go to start it, push the chalk in to about three quarters.
21:13Right.
21:14Pump the accelerator pedal twice to prime the carb.
21:17Right.
21:17And she'll be straight on the button.
21:18Right, mate.
21:20No problem.
21:21Yeah.
21:23You see the left-hand one's clutched on it, isn't it?
21:25Left foot?
21:25Yeah, I think it is.
21:26One far left, yeah?
21:28Well, try them all and see what happens.
21:37Oh!
21:39Power steering ain't working.
21:43I'm going to get that on here.
21:45Push that one out.
21:46Load her on.
21:47Tea, cake, all the rest of it.
21:49And away.
21:52This is a sad moment, this.
21:54Very sad moment.
21:57Stuck?
21:58I think so.
22:01There.
22:03Right.
22:04What's the plan here then, Derek?
22:06Just pull it.
22:07Right.
22:07Simple as that.
22:11Yeah.
22:11Go get Hub Cup off.
22:12What for?
22:14They were quick.
22:15They were the XR3 of their day.
22:17Yeah.
22:17Well, 1600cc, six-cylinder engine, way on top of the job.
22:21Little tiny body.
22:23Oh, yeah.
22:23Yeah.
22:23And, of course, they went up to two litre, as we know, in about 1967 or something.
22:2866.
22:30Triumph sort of got it right, didn't they?
22:32For once.
22:33The only thing they forgot was that all the running gears, 15, 20 years older.
22:39But, having said that, they were a good car in the day.
22:41I like them.
22:41I'm a fan of them.
22:42Definitely a fan of them.
22:46Such Italian flair, everybody wanted them.
22:48You name another car that has such flair.
22:52And even the flair of the back of the roof matches the flair of the fins.
22:59But they had to be two-ton.
23:02Grand to meet you, Paul.
23:04Lovely to meet you.
23:04Absolute pleasure.
23:05Got the keys in the car, yeah, both lots of keys in the car.
23:08I'll do me time sheet, and then back to God's own country.
23:15Somebody out there will say, that will make a nice car when it's done,
23:19and I'm hoping that they will buy it, do the restoration,
23:22and one day I'll see her back on the road again.
23:25Maybe even have a wee ride in her.
23:27That would be lovely.
23:33609 mile 3 rally chopper.
23:36£210 and away then, £210.
23:38All done, £210, got more on the sheet, I can't do that.
23:42It's auction day, and they're up and off with some serious selling.
23:47Out of gas, gasoline, whereabouts then? £55.
23:51That's one lot down, just another £800 to go.
23:55Next up, the pristine Peugeot GTI, with less than 12,000 miles on the clock.
24:051992 Peugeot 205 GTI, lot number 630.
24:08Wow, these are romping on.
24:11Right, here we go then.
24:12We're on south in the world go.
24:1426,000, 26, 27, 28, 29, 29.
24:18Loads of interest in it.
24:1929,000, 29.
24:21Going then, £29,000.
24:23Who's going to fill it up?
24:25£29,000.
24:27All done then.
24:2829,005, 29,005.
24:3129,005, 30,000.
24:3330,000.
24:3330,000 pounds.
24:35Cheers, thank you.
24:36Bye-bye.
24:3730,000, 30,500, 30,500, 31,000.
24:4231,000.
24:43Oh, it's lovely.
24:44It's down there.
24:45Wow, it's beautiful.
24:46On sale and selling £31,000.
24:49Going for the first...
24:49I know it's not worth 30 grand, but it's lovely.
24:51Are you sure you're done?
24:5331, 31.
24:56The low mileage Peugeot has exceeded everyone's expectations.
25:01Now, who's up for a hardly used Volvo?
25:07It's a 1986 Volvo 360 GLT.
25:10I'll just tell you where we're going to start.
25:12I'm interested in this car.
25:14He bought it new.
25:15It's done 4,800 miles, that's all it's done.
25:19Bloody hell.
25:19It smells new and looks new inside.
25:21Going then 6,600.
25:23Look, that's 6,800.
25:256,800.
25:256,800.
25:267,000.
25:277,000 pounds.
25:287,200.
25:297,400.
25:307,400.
25:31Smells like a brand new car inside.
25:34I can't really.
25:36I've got so much interest.
25:377,600 I'll take.
25:387,600.
25:397,600.
25:40I'll put a bit in for 7,600.
25:41For nothing this car.
25:427,600.
25:44Is that okay?
25:44You can buy a brand new Volvo 360 GLT.
25:497,600.
25:507,600.
25:517,800.
25:53Wrexham.
25:54Right.
25:54Somebody jumped in now.
25:55Job will be right.
25:567,800.
25:578,000.
25:588,000.
25:59Going then.
26:00Going to submit it.
26:018,000 pounds.
26:028,000 pounds.
26:03Lovely car.
26:048,000.
26:05Submit him for the first.
26:068,000 pounds.
26:078,000 pounds with us.
26:08Submit him for the second.
26:09Third and last time.
26:11Provisionally.
26:128,000 pounds.
26:13Alan.
26:14Goodbye.
26:158,000 pounds.
26:16It's yours.
26:16We've got it.
26:18Okay.
26:19The office will be in touch.
26:21All right.
26:21Thank you very much.
26:23Thanks.
26:23Bye.
26:25The 360 isn't going far.
26:27A Volvo specialist garage in York has snapped it up.
26:39Looks a nice usable car.
26:41Random plant.
26:43How are we then, Alistair?
26:45Good.
26:45Nice to meet you, mate.
26:46Nice to meet you.
26:47Good lad.
26:47Here she is, look.
26:49All the way from the sticks, Mark Elliott's 40-year-old Rover.
26:53Drive all right?
26:54It's never missed a beat all the way over, so.
26:57Good.
26:58Well, it's only done just over 38,000 miles.
27:01Is that all it's done?
27:01With every single build from you, original owners, all the MOTs.
27:07Yeah, yeah, yeah.
27:07So, I mean, if you look at the seats, you can tell.
27:12Yeah, look at them seat bolsters and so forth.
27:14Look.
27:14Prove the mileage.
27:15Yeah, that's it.
27:16Pedal rubbers, mats, carpets.
27:18Yep.
27:19Just general dashboard and so forth.
27:20Hopefully, well, to be fair, that's the main thing for this one, isn't it?
27:23It is.
27:24You know, go to a good home at the end of the day.
27:25It's all about that, isn't it?
27:26And Mark would have loved that.
27:28Definitely.
27:29I wish I had met him.
27:30Good.
27:32Lovely car.
27:34Really nice car.
27:35Once tucked up in the showroom, the Rover reveals its finer points.
27:40I mean, the Vitesse was the sports version, wasn't it?
27:43But in the luxury car world, it's the next thing down.
27:48I know it's not a V8, but on the ladder, it's up there.
27:52You know, it's up there.
27:53It's Vanden Pla, it's a bonnie colour.
27:54It's a lovely conditioned car.
27:57Sensible on the miles.
27:58Nice wheels.
27:59Nice finish.
28:00You know, very, very genuine little car.
28:03But it's a 2.6.
28:05So it could be worse.
28:06Could be a two litre, couldn't it?
28:07If it was a V8, it would be a chunk more money as well.
28:11If it was a Vitesse, it would be a chunk more money again.
28:15So balance it all up.
28:18Not a bad option at all in my book.
28:21Yeah.
28:21It's had a reasonable bit of paint over the years, I would suggest.
28:27But it's been done nicely.
28:29The good thing about it is, it's been done some time ago.
28:33So any paint that it has had is going back a bit.
28:38Nobody wants to buy anything that was painted last Tuesday afternoon.
28:41I don't think it's had a full house.
28:43I just think it's had bits and pieces to keep it looking nice.
28:46If a car looks nice in this bright sunlight, like now this is here, it'll look fantastic in the shade.
28:52Yeah.
28:53I would think you're going to be looking around the £8,000 mark.
28:59I would think.
29:07The lots keep on arriving, including Derek's load, that's made a triumphant return from Bolton.
29:16Try not.
29:22I'm going to ask him how long that's been parked up for.
29:25It's not going to be every man and his dog wanting it, but I'm sure that there'll be two or
29:30three or four people that will want to buy this one or that one or whatever.
29:34The marketing really should be alright for them, as long as we do our job right.
29:42Me, Vitesse every time, six cylinder. I love that six cylinder.
29:46The little Forza, great little car, don't get me wrong.
29:49Little 1200, lovely little thing, little sweetie, I bet.
29:51You want a six potter, don't you, really?
29:54There's no substitute to pistons, is there? The more the merrier.
30:15The showroom's filling up.
30:17I don't mind them, I think they're a good little car.
30:19Amongst the lots, two Triumphs. A non-starting six cylinder Vitesse that needs a bit of love.
30:26It's all about that badge, isn't it? But not at big money. Because of the work required on the car,
30:32I would say it's probably going to hit around the 3,000 pound mark.
30:38And a two-tone Herald that's ready to rock.
30:41In the world of Heralds, they're not a bad Herald at all.
30:45That door fit for a Herald is good.
30:49You can normally get into a Herald through the gap.
30:54Whereas these are an absolute mechanic's dream, because you've got full access to everything.
31:00And not only have you got full access to everything, they've even thought about giving you a seat to do
31:09it.
31:10I mean, what other car gives you a seat to sit on and somewhere to put your cup of tea?
31:16Put your cup of tea there, Horia. You've just got a tray there.
31:19Yeah. So you can have tea, sandwich, biscuits.
31:22Yeah. Lovely, isn't it?
31:25Everything is simple.
31:26If you can't work on one of these Triumph Heralds, then basically you can't work on anything mechanical.
31:33Not in our industry. No way.
31:35You know, if this beats you, then life's beat you, really, to be honest with you.
31:41Yeah.
31:42Now, so for that reason alone, they've got to be on your list, haven't they?
31:48A little Herald like that, £4,000, £4,500.
31:53Which is a lot of little car, isn't it, for that?
31:56You know, in our world, that's not a lot of money.
32:06We picked this up. Yeah, it was over the border, wasn't it?
32:08Yeah. We took a risk getting over there, really, didn't we?
32:11We don't like going over there particularly, do we?
32:13What a lovely day we had, didn't we?
32:14Yeah, we had a good day.
32:15We had cake and all the rest of it, didn't we?
32:16And all that sort of stuff. Well, you did.
32:17Yeah. It was great.
32:19£4,000, £4,000, £4,000, £4,100, £4,100, £4,100, on sale and going, £4,100.
32:36All done then, I'm selling it, £4,100 and away, all done then, £4,100.
32:41£4,100, £4,100, there you go.
32:45Now, the second car we picked up, which is the Vitesse.
32:49Start me on it, whereabouts?
32:502000, 2002, 2004, 2004.
32:54Nice old car, £1,600.
32:56Early one, £1,600, better still, smooth as still.
32:59£2,400, £2,400, £24.
33:01Not enough, £24, £25, worth a lot more this car, £25.
33:05£2,500 only, selling it provisionally only.
33:08Are you all done then?
33:09£2,500, won't be enough.
33:11Got to find some more money, £25, provisional.
33:14£4,600, snap-on, Solus Ultra Diagnostic Tool.
33:18Eh?
33:18It's a proper tool you got there, mate.
33:22In the end, £2,400 clinched the deal.
33:25Vitesse is heading south to Essex.
33:35I think I've only put 50 miles on it, but it will get used.
33:40The ultra-low mileage Peugeot that was sold with 11,800 miles on the clock is still being pampered.
33:48It's not like it's going to be a daily driver.
33:50It's just going to be high days and holidays kind of thing.
33:53It'll never see rain, that's for sure.
33:57Even in Newcastle?
33:58Yep, even in Newcastle.
34:00The only water it's going to see is for the radiator and the washer bottle.
34:04And that's it.
34:05This is the second Peugeot 205 GTI that Tony Sayers has owned.
34:11Mine was red.
34:12Exactly the same spec.
34:14Sunroof.
34:15Red.
34:161600.
34:17Perfect.
34:19Well, 30 years after I'd sold the other one, I saw that one come up on Matthewson's website.
34:25They seemed to think it was a cracker.
34:28And I went down and had a look and they weren't wrong.
34:31It was a case I had to have it.
34:33I'd always said if I could find one that was a good condition one, I'd have another one.
34:40And I couldn't believe it when that came up.
34:43I left £35,000, hoping nobody would go anywhere near it.
34:49But unfortunately somebody else was of the view that they had to have it.
34:53And they must have left 30, 30 and a half, something like that.
34:59So it cost me 31.
35:01But I'm not bothered.
35:04It's a brand new car to all intents and purposes.
35:08And I love the bits.
35:09It's obviously been garaged.
35:12Because particularly with the reds, they sit out in the sun, they fade eventually.
35:17But that one hasn't faded at all.
35:19So it has been kept under cover, which has done it a lot of favours.
35:26Oh, they're very good to drive.
35:28They're quite quick.
35:30Well, they were quick in the day.
35:32And they're still not a slow car.
35:34And they handle very, very well.
35:37I think that's why a lot of boys used to rally them and things like that.
35:40Because they're quite good on cornering and things like that.
35:44It's just a joy to drive, really.
35:48Somewhere around eight, eight and a half seconds to 60,
35:50which was quick back in the day.
35:53But it's not slow now.
35:54So it's, you know, you can keep up with anything on the roads.
36:01It's just a lovely thing to own, to drive.
36:05There's the memories as well, you know.
36:07Happy days.
36:08But yeah, that one's going to stay with me for a long time.
36:12And just drive around with a smile on my face.
36:15Until they take my licence up.
36:20That's the second best car I've ever bought.
36:23Which was the first?
36:24There's your 205 GDA.
36:27Need ACMO.
36:40But I've let him know that your offer's on the table, so...
36:43No, no extra charges. It's all included in your entry fee.
36:452,000 pounds to Mongolia.
36:49He's working in the desert and it's minus 16.
36:52It takes all sorts.
36:542,000 pounds.
36:56Provisionally, Mr Mongolia.
36:59Fantastic.
37:05They're big, they're wide, they actually handle not too bad.
37:08They're a bit floaty, but they actually, because of the width of them,
37:11they're a wide car and they actually handle quite well.
37:15Yeah, no, they're a good car. They're all right.
37:17They're a good old car.
37:21Ah, now then, lot number 836.
37:23Sadly, Mark is no longer with us.
37:25I'm sure Mark would rather be with us,
37:26and he'd rather be driving his Rover on a nice day like today.
37:29But sadly, he isn't.
37:31And Alistair, his good friend, has stepped in
37:33and he's handled the side of the car for the family.
37:35I ran one for a couple of years on and off.
37:38An early V8 on carbs.
37:40I think that was a six-cylinder one, I think.
37:41I haven't had a lot to do with this particular car, to be honest.
37:43But it looks a nice car on the face of it.
37:46Lovely car.
37:46Not concourse.
37:47There you go.
37:48There you go.
37:49Indeed, it does look a lovely car.
37:50Not a concourse, but a lovely, lovely car.
37:52Just the type of car that you'd like to own.
37:55So, for you, Mark, thanks ever so much, mate.
37:58We'll do our best for you.
37:59So, the Rover.
38:00Yeah.
38:01The Vandemplar.
38:01Here we are.
38:02We have got £6,000 there.
38:04We've got £6,000, £6,250, £6,500, £750, £7,000.
38:08You can argue they're probably underrated, underrated car.
38:13Them, Granadas, all that sort of thing.
38:17You know, Granadas do more money than Rovers for some reason.
38:20Ford, that's why, innit?
38:21Just shows, doesn't it?
38:22Good ones do good money.
38:24And £2,500.
38:25£9,250.
38:26£9,350.
38:27£9,450.
38:29£9,450.
38:30Are we done?
38:31There we go.
38:32At £9,550.
38:34£9,650 here.
38:35At £9,650 we've got.
38:39£9,750 in Devon.
38:41£9,850.
38:43Are we all done?
38:43Making sure I'm missing no-one at £9,850.
38:48£9,850.
38:51There you go, £9,850.
38:54It's not bad money, really, was it?
38:56All in all, it's a happy ending for the rather lovely Rover.
39:00It was bought by Nigel Mead from Northamptonshire,
39:03who recently pressed it into service as a colleague's wedding car.
39:15I've got a nice Jaguar I enjoy driving.
39:19Over on the Essex coast, Tony Blunden has been patiently building up a tidy collection of motors that he's been
39:27restoring bit by bit.
39:28I got the Jaguar from Mastersons not so long ago, but I've done a lot on it.
39:34There was quite a bit of chrome work missing off of it and bits and pieces missing off of it
39:38which I've located and done.
39:39I just keep myself busy doing bits and pieces and them all.
39:44The 1962 Mark II is definitely a head-turner.
39:49And so is this one.
39:51A 1958 Hillman Minx convertible.
39:55I bought it from Derek about four or five years ago, I think.
39:59You've got pictures of it then and it's a little bit different now.
40:03Very, very attractive old thing.
40:05Got the makings of a lovely car.
40:08Look at that, the way the seat goes.
40:10To gain access to the back.
40:11It's lovely, isn't it?
40:12The last time we saw the Minx in Whitby,
40:14well, it was a shell of its current self.
40:17The engine didn't run.
40:19The gearbox wasn't connected.
40:2290% of the interior was missing off of it.
40:24No bumpers, no lights, no nothing.
40:27It's taken me a good four years to get to this stage,
40:31but I was waiting for bits and pieces to come, like the door panels and all that.
40:35I wanted to get the original stuff for it.
40:37All the inner seals, outer seals.
40:39Absolutely crusting.
40:42You just can't find them like this.
40:44Which brings us nicely onto Tony's latest acquisition.
40:48A 1962 Triumph Vitesse that used to belong to a bus driver from Bolton.
40:54I only finished it under two days ago
40:56and I'm going to take it out for a ride in a bit
40:58and hopefully, if it drives as nice as I think it's going to,
41:02then I'll spend some time on the bodywork
41:05and get the paintwork done and sort it out.
41:08It's called Triumph White.
41:10Triumph 19, it's called, the colour code.
41:13It's got the black stripe down it, which I like.
41:17Triumph for test, see?
41:20There's so much paperwork, it's unbelievable.
41:22Even the old brown logbook is with it.
41:25Loads and all the MOTs, stacks of MOTs.
41:28That's what I've got.
41:35The engine's sound.
41:37It's got the oomph in it, hasn't it?
41:38Six-cylinder and a small car, it's like a sports car, apparently.
41:44They do handle well, very well.
41:47It's a noted thing on the Triumph Terrell,
41:49to turn on a sixpence, which you can do.
41:51There's no luxuries in them at all, is there, in the old cars?
41:55But, think yourself lucky if the windscreen wipers work.
41:59I'm happy with a car.
42:01I'll keep it and, um, same as I do with all the others.
42:04I can't drive them all, can I?
42:07But I've got to carry on doing work.
42:10Keep myself busy.
42:13That's it.
42:15There we go.
42:16Sound as a pound, yeah?
42:18Absolutely, sound as a pound.
42:20All over.
42:20The Vitesse just needs a paint job,
42:23with all the work being carefully chronicled
42:25by Tony's granddaughter, Renee.
42:28She's always drawing.
42:30I've come to a classic car show with me,
42:32and she draws all the classic cars,
42:34and she's sitting there while I'm working out in the garage here,
42:37she's sitting and drawing me...
42:38Cos they've got lines, the new cars,
42:40they've not really got lines in them, have they?
42:42Although she didn't like...
42:43You're not too keen on the spoke wheels, are you?
42:46Yeah.
42:48In the meantime, it's back to the drawing board for Tony,
42:51as he searches out his next project.
42:54And did we mention that he likes a sing-song?
42:58I repeat, don't think you're kind of neat.
43:02We'll ask you where we come from then,
43:04we ain't being sweet.
43:07That's you lot.
43:29You, you.
43:46You
