00:03This crash is not what it looks like.
00:06It's Bagishri Savisachi from the Canberra Times and today I'm here to witness a training simulation
00:12where 30 of firefighters from ACT Fire and Rescue are responding to a simulated mass casualty event.
00:21They used this bulldozer to set up this crash between a bus and a sedan
00:26and a third car which has flipped and landed in the grass a few metres away.
00:32We're looking for what we call some sector leadership.
00:36So although they're not station officers at the moment and they won't be in charge at an incident,
00:41they could very well find themselves being in charge of a sector.
00:45So what we're looking for is those technical skills to be able to assess their sector,
00:50come up with an extrication plan and be able to direct firefighters that they've been assigned
00:56to playing out that extrication plan that they've developed.
01:02In this incident there are nine casualties and some of them are high fidelity mannequins.
01:08That means they can be controlled like this.
01:11So it looks like I'm just playing with my phone. I'm actually pretending on the audio cues.
01:15We've just moved to moaning, groaning and that would indicate a decline.
01:21And I'll change it later to, you know, man screaming and pain.
01:25Just so they don't forget that there's a patient there.
01:30I'm taking it away!
01:31I'm slave to police!
01:32Police!
