Thanks to the new engine range, the new GLE models offer a new, more agile driving experience. Numerous innovations make them even more responsive from a standstill and provide improved acceleration on country roads. At the same time, the engines are already designed to meet future emissions standards and, true to the brand, offer exceptional noise and vibration comfort.
In the crucial partial-load range, the top-of-the-line V8 model, the GLE 580 4MATIC, is now noticeably more agile. The V8 responds more quickly to accelerator pedal inputs, operates more efficiently, and delivers power more smoothly than before. Rated output has increased from 380 to 395 kW. The maximum torque of 750 Nm (up from 730 Nm) is available across a broad range from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. To comply with future emissions limits, the V8 now features a flat-plane crankshaft instead of the previous cross-plane design. The firing order alternates between the two cylinder banks. Compared to its predecessor, the injection system, the exhaust aftertreatment system with particulate filter (worldwide), the cylinder head's intake and exhaust ports, and the intake camshaft have all been optimized. Mercedes-Benz has also revised the compressor wheel and turbocharger housing. Two Lanchester balance shafts ensure exceptional smoothness.
