Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) has confirmed an incident in which three of its contractor’s workers were killed on Sunday (May 24).

Another worker was seriously injured during maintenance work on a lifeboat at the Sepat platform.

00:01Three contractor workers were killed after a lifeboat fell into the sea during maintenance
00:06work at the Sepat offshore platform in Terengganu-Kilantan waters on Sunday.
00:12Another worker was seriously injured in the incident involving a platform operated by
00:17Petroleum National Berhad or Petronas.
00:20In a statement on Monday, Petronas confirmed the incident and said investigations are being
00:26carried out, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, to determine the cause.
00:31The company also expressed its deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of
00:37the victims.
00:38According to Kuala Terengganu Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohamad Noor, the incident
00:44happened at around 12.50pm.
00:46The workers were believed to have boarded a lifeboat to descend into the sea for maintenance
00:52work.
00:53However, a rope or hook attached to the boat is believed to have come loose, causing them
00:59to fall into the sea.
01:00The victims who died were identified as 38-year-old Ahmad Fikri Zakaria, 28-year-old Mohamad Faizwan
01:08Hakim Mohamad Bustamam and 38-year-old Nik Mohamad Hafifi Asri Abmajid.
01:14Another victim, 37-year-old Mohamad Taufik Mohamad Ruslan, suffered serious injuries and is receiving
01:21treatment at Sultana Nozahira Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.
