The man who was shot and killed by Secret Service officers outside the White House on May 23, 2026, has been identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best. It's alleged Best approached a security checkpoint and began open firing on agents.

00:35It's alleged Best approached a security checkpoint and began open firing on agents.
00:41In a statement released online, a Secret Service spokesperson said,
00:45Shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday local time, an individual in the area of 17th Street and
00:52Pennsylvania Avenue pulled a weapon from his bag and began firing. Secret Service police returned
00:58fire, striking the suspect, who was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
01:05During the shooting, one bystander was also struck by gunfire. No injuries were sustained by officers.
01:25Best is believed to have attempted multiple times to enter various parts of the White House
01:30and was involuntarily committed in June 2025 after obstructing a vehicle entry to the complex.
01:38A month later, Best was again confronted, attempting to walk into a restricted area outside the White
01:45House. When officers approached him, he claimed to be Jesus and said that he wanted to be arrested.
01:51Statements he made on social media included his claim that he was the real Osama Bin Laden and had
01:58a desire to harm the President of the United States. President Donald Trump was on White House grounds
02:05during the shooting but was unaffected by the events outside. The building was locked down for 40 minutes.
02:12Journalists who had been outside the White House reporting on Trump's peace negotiation with Iran
02:18were directed by Secret Service agents to take cover inside a briefing room.
02:31The lockdown comes just a month after shots were fired, allegedly by Cole Thomas Allen,
