00:00So the inspiration behind Ikaw at Ikaw, I wanted to write a love song, but at the same time, the
00:05main objective when I wrote this was to go back to my roots, which is, I would say Dahil Soyo
00:11was where everything started for me as a singer.
00:14And my main intention for this song was I wanted to create something that had the same heart and the
00:19same intention as Dahil Soyo.
00:20And in a more modern, more mature way, in a more who I am now.
00:26And I'm happy with the way that it turned out and even the lyrics, it kind of almost, when you
00:32listen to the lyrics, it almost can be seen in a way that I'm going back to a place that
00:37I've missed for so long.
00:40And for me, the way I see it, I dedicate it to my fans that have been there for so
00:43long.
00:44And even when I took a break after such a long time, you know, they're still here.
00:49And Ikaw at Ikaw pa rin ang pipiliin ko. Ikaw pa rin yung uuwian ko.
00:53So that's how this song came about.
00:55And I think it was really because of Dahil Soyo.
00:59That's how this song became what it is.
01:01So with this song, it actually went against my usual pattern of making music.
01:09I'm usually a melodic writer, which means I write with my melodies first.
01:13But with this one, I actually started writing down my lyrics first before adding a melody to it.
01:20And, you know, like the first few lines, lumipas na ang ilang taon.
01:23Nakala ako nag-iba na ang panahon.
01:25So for me, it stands, you know, like I've been gone for so long.
01:28I don't know if I'm still welcome back to where I was before.
01:32And that's basically yung naging tuloy-tuloy na thought nung kanta.
01:39But the chorus, you know, it goes back to, no matter what, this is still the thing that I'm going
01:44to keep going back to.
01:47Funnily enough, like this album that I've been working on, it's my writing process.
01:53I think sa lahat nang sinulat ko, ito yung pinaka-iba yung proseso.
01:57Nandalas ko ngayon makasunat pag nasa kotse ko.
01:59So, when I'm obviously not driving, when I'm in the passenger seat, and everyone that's in the car, you guys
02:06see me, like my assistant Pacquiao.
02:09Sorry, JR. His name is JR. His name is Pacquiao.
02:13He always sees me writing.
02:15Kasi sila tinatanong ko sila, oh, kailan ba to? Minsan pag hindi tama yung Tagalog ko, tatanong ko, tama ba
02:19yung Tagalog na ginagamit ko sa parts na to?
02:21So, and they get to see that.
02:25And it's weird, because I don't usually write like that.
02:27And before, I was more of a melodic writer rather than a lyrical writer.
02:31But with this album that I've been working on, mas lyrics yunaw una, tas tiyaka ko sa tinadagdagan ng melody.
02:38And usually, most of the time, I'm in the car doing long drives.
02:43I feel like a lot of people that relate to, minsan di ba ang sarap mag-soundtrip sa sasakyan,
02:49and minsan ang dami mong naiisip na thoughts kung creative.
02:54Sometimes your creative juice comes out when you're in the car just driving or when you're in the passenger seat.
03:01So, ako mentally, like it's like, I got so excited when I finally found out that I'm gonna be working
03:08on an album with Star Music.
03:10I obviously was very happy when I finally decided that I was going back to Star Music.
03:15But when it became so real to me, like what I said, before I was able to write any of
03:21these songs,
03:22I already had said yes to a couple songs with other composers and other producers.
03:26Because I didn't have any songs at the time that I had written already.
03:30And I was frustrated because I was like, I want to have original songs on this album.
03:34Because, you know, every album that I've worked on, I've always had my own original compositions.
03:41And then, when I heard the compositions that I was going to be working on, yung mga nag-yes ako
03:46towards,
03:48dun ako nagkaroon ng parang spark in me that I was like, you know what, it's coming to me.
03:53It's like, you know, yung creative juice mabiglang, it's just, I told you, like I was able to write four
04:00songs in a span of a week
04:02because I was just so driven, I was like, I was so like inspired by what was happening in my
04:08current state
04:08that I'm back home to Star Music, I'm finally going to be making music again.
04:12And then I finally realized what I wanted my music to be again, I wanted to go back to my
04:16roots.
04:16And so everything just kind of poured out, everything just kind of kept going.
