00:0015.1, ahead of Alex Albon, a couple of seconds down early stages here.
00:04And I'm not surprised to see a lot of people having a couple, Martin, of warm-up attempts here,
00:09because generating some temperature into these tyres with a track temperature 31 degrees
00:13might not be the easiest thing in the world to do.
00:16Behrman goes second fastest.
00:17Yes, 10 degrees cooler than yesterday.
00:20We've just had the Formula 2 race, which will have scrubbed the surface a little bit,
00:24but they do use Pirelli tyres, so the same sort of family of compounds.
00:28And I think the track will ramp up pretty quickly.
00:31Lando Norris, fastest of all through the first sector.
00:34Max Verstappen, fastest of all through the middle sector until Lando Norris passes that timing beam
00:40and puts a couple of tenths more on his time ahead of Verstappen.
00:45To the line we watch now, behind Lewis Hamilton and picking up a toe.
00:49Verstappen going quickest and into the 1.14s now.
00:52Half a second clear of Oscar Piastri.
00:55And now Lando Norris to the final chicane.
00:57And McColler Pinto going second fastest.
00:59Isn't a decent lap from him to only be a tenth off the Red Bull.
01:03Lando Norris, best of third on the grid here in previous years.
01:07A 1.14.2 from him goes quickest overall.
01:10Antonelli's on the track and he's already a tenth up on any previous best time in that first part of
01:14the lap.
01:15And this is George Russell's Mercedes at the far end of the racetrack.
01:20He did well this morning.
01:22George sort of just keep the lead under control.
01:24And then he got rid of a bit of graining on the tyres and won the sprint again.
01:29But now it's all a complete reset as we head into the final chicane with him.
01:36You really have to dance across those curbs.
01:39Keep the weight distribution right as well.
01:41So you keep the inside of the car unloaded and he crosses the line just under a quarter of a
01:47second.
01:48A drift of Norris.
01:49But Antonelli is now between him and Norris as you can see.
01:54Yeah, 15 one thousandths of a second slower than Lando Norris.
01:58Lewis Hamilton past the Wall of Champions which he brushed in the sprint race a little earlier.
02:03Hamilton goes sixth fastest behind Collopinto.
02:06Next across the line will be Charles Leclerc in the other Ferrari and Leclerc still warming up and preparing his
02:13tyres with an uncompetitive lap time of a 1.16.
02:17Now Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso.
02:20Another incident for the stewards to potentially look at.
02:23This one's a turn 13 incident which may or may not be impeding.
02:27Turn 13 by the way is the corner that we're coming up to right now with Oscar Piastri.
02:32That's early part of the final chicane.
02:35Piastri on his way towards the line.
02:38Another for the best of thirds on the grid.
02:41And he goes eight one thousandths of a second behind Lando Norris who has his only top three start here
02:47from that third on the grid in 2024.
02:50Once again Piastri not favouring that hard right down the pit straight for the shortest run to the line.
02:59The ride has felt quite a bit worse today than yesterday.
03:03George feeling the bumps a little touch maybe as well.
03:07And it's quite bumpy around here which is good.
03:09We don't want billiard table racing circuits.
03:11Well it was resurfaced in 2024 and the harshities of the Montreal winter and the extremities of a Montreal summer
03:19have already caused quite a few bumps.
03:21And it does look a lot bumpier than it was last year and in 2024.
03:25Gasly has decided no point carrying on without that.
03:28And Leclerc right down at the bottom because his time was deleted.
03:32So exactly a stellar first few minutes for Charles Leclerc.
03:36Lewis Hamilton setting off on another fast lap.
03:40Max Verstappen completing another fast lap and going fastest once again as Lando Norris and Franco Colapinto head into the
03:48pits along with Stroll and Gasly.
03:50And that's investigation with Stroll's loose wheel fairing will be conducted after the session.
03:56It's already going to be a late night for the stewards I think.
03:59Well Fernando Alonso will have to take residence there won't he looking at that.
04:03But so we saw it's in the Red Bulls obviously very knife edge on its setup because you can see
04:09Max was tentative yesterday in sprint qualifying.
04:12Really struggling to commit particularly to this final chicane that George Russell is just approaching.
04:18Said the vertical movement of the car was too much.
04:20The car was bouncing around.
04:22But once again then we're seeing Max putting in some benchmark times.
04:26George Russell goes a tenth fastest.
04:29They were separated by 0.16 of a second last year at the end of Q3.
04:33It's 0.11 of a second currently between Russell and Verstappen.
04:38Antonelli trying to get in between them or ahead of them and actually goes ahead of them.
04:42With a storming lap half a second clear there of George Russell.
04:46Isaac Hadjar next to cross the line.
04:49And he finds time too to go four tenths ahead of his teammate Hamilton next to cross the line.
04:54Only seven fastest though for Lewis Hamilton.
04:56And with eight and a half minutes to go it's Alonso Hulkenberg, Bottas, Stroll, Gasly and Leclerc in the bottom
05:02six.
05:03Track's really ramping up so this makes everybody nervous even the front runners.
05:07And that's a big front axle lock up from Nico Hulkenberg.
05:11The first of actually quite a lot we've seen from him.
05:14Nico Hulkenberg who qualified 11th for the sprint race.
05:18The fifth time in seven qualifying sessions he's qualified 11th this season.
05:22His teammate Gabriel Bortoleto giving the grass a little bit of a trim.
05:25And this is Charles Leclerc's moment.
05:28As he hit the bump there and went over the curbs at the final chicane after a lock up.
05:34And no way that he could avoid that given the lock up happened so close to the apex of the
05:40corner.
05:40A bumpy old ride for Charles Leclerc who's currently the slowest driver on track but a good first sector so
05:45far in this lap.
05:47Bernie Collins down on the pit wall.
05:48What have you got for us?
05:49Yes, two very quick things Crofty.
05:51We've been currently given a track slippy warning into turn 13 which I guess is maybe a little bit of
05:56debris there.
05:57And looking at the Alonso Perez incident.
05:59Alonso came down that again into turn 13.
06:02Very quick.
06:03But he lost 22 kph versus his fastest lap with Perez in the apex of that corner.
06:09Now the next lap has still been quicker for Alonso so won't affect his finish position.
06:14But it does look like there's a 22 kph deficit for Alonso in that corner.
06:19Wow.
06:20That's huge, isn't it?
06:22Yeah.
06:23For whatever reason you would assume Fernando would not want to launch 22 kph if he could help it.
06:28I mean that's very close to the speed limit in pretty much all of London, isn't it?
06:33And Wales.
06:35That's the difference we're talking about in straight line speed.
06:39David Lindblad crosses the line, goes third fastest.
06:43There are times I'm glad that I don't have to come to your place very often, Martin, with that 20
06:47mile an hour speed limit.
06:48I'm a bicycle I'm worried about getting the points.
06:53Sergio Perez, little update to that turn 13 incident, failing to follow race director's instructions.
06:59I wonder if by Fernando's speed dropping he had to take evasive action and go across the runoff area and
07:08didn't come back on the appointed point that you have to.
07:11I haven't seen the replay, I'm guessing, but that might be it.
07:15Lewis Hamilton, a couple of tenths off through the first two sectors.
07:19He's been experimenting with lines through that hairpin, sometimes going a lot wider than we just saw then.
07:24I think he'd be pleased with that one.
07:25That was nice.
07:26But the main thing is you've got to release the car off the corner because you carry speed all the
07:31way down here.
07:32You can just tell it's run out of battery a little bit.
07:34It goes a little bit dull on the engine towards the end of the straight up against the wall and
07:40stays right for the shortest run to the line and moves up into the top five.
07:45What we're not seeing is blistering pace from Ferrari yet, are we?
07:50Which I'm a little surprised about given the skinniness of their rear wing.
07:55Certainly no battery for Lewis Hamilton, halfway down that main straight to deploy.
08:00Charles Leclerc sets off again on another lap and this will be another preparation lap for Oscar Piastri.
08:06He currently finds himself at eighth fastest overall, third on the grid here last year and searching for a first
08:12pole since Qatar in 2025.
08:15We'll pick up Charles Leclerc, who's on a flying lap.
08:19His first sector is a 21-0.
08:22Compare that to the only other driver out there on a flying lap at the moment, Alex Albon, who did
08:26a 21-2 for a Williams car that got into the final part of qualifying for the sprint for Carlos
08:32Sainz.
08:32Whilst Alex Albon looked on from the garage as they elected not to run him in that qualifying following his
08:39accident against the wall in practice on Friday.
08:42Just to remind you, we're looking to drop six out of qualifying here.
08:50And two Ferraris nearly tripping over each other down there at the hairpin.
08:55So we're going to drop six and then it all gets a reset.
08:59So those six, their grip positions are set and we get a reset to go again.
09:04So what piece of his car fell off?
09:07That's the question that Oli Behrman fans are asking.
09:10I said Haas running the upgrades on both cars.
09:15It's upgrade minus one as far as Oli Behrman is concerned.
09:18Ted, down to you.
09:19Just a quick one.
09:20First of all, the cutoff time looks to be a bit lower than yesterday as it would be as the
09:24track improves.
09:24A low one minute 15, so around Lawson Albon area.
09:30And just to explain why Pierre Gasly is down there without a lap.
09:32He got blocked by Lewis Hamilton on both runs.
09:35I don't know if you saw it, but Renault or Alpine as they're now called.
09:40He's had to abandon the second run, but he should be fine if he gets a clear run in, which
09:46it looks like he is now.
09:47Yeah, no is the answer.
09:48And I was going to say it hasn't been noted.
09:50But just as you were saying that, Ted, it has now been noted for an impeding incident 10 minutes ago.
09:56And it's just been picked up by race control to the line then with Pierre Gasly.
10:00And that's good enough for 10th.
10:03So a 1.14.6 for him.
10:06And he's going to have to go a little bit faster than that, I would imagine, with others potentially improving
10:12behind him.
10:14Lawson now goes into P9.
10:16Charles Leclerc is finding time and Piastri is finding time as the track continues to ramp up.
10:22These are really good conditions for qualifying here.
10:24And these soft tyres are just hanging on and on and on, aren't they?
10:28Which they were yesterday for SQ3.
10:30I just noticed there's a bit of car as Leclerc crosses the line, goes fourth fastest.
10:35To the right-hand side, left as we look, down that back straight.
10:39It's well off the racing line, but if you were trying to keep out of someone's way, you don't really
10:43want to go right.
10:45Piastri goes third fastest.
10:46And I wonder if that is the bit of Oli Behrmann's car that he was talking about.
10:51Crossing the line now, Behrmann goes 11th fastest.
10:53You can see side pod look, he's got a problem there, front left of a piece moving around.
11:00That's what Behrmann is referring to.
11:03So a 1.14.5 might be good enough to get Oli Behrmann through, but...
11:10There's a bit of dust coming there from the Williams of Science as he crossed the line.
11:14But they're going to have to look at that piece of carbon fibre flapping around when he gets back to
11:21the garage.
11:22Lance Stroll will have one more lap to try and get out of the bottom six.
11:26His latest attempt is only good enough for 20th fastest.
11:29Hamilton, quickest overall through the first sector.
11:32What was a 21-0 was the best first sector time.
11:35He's now at 20.7.
11:37Perez crosses the line, 18th fastest for him.
11:40He should be able to get another lap in to go once more.
11:44Hamilton just a couple of hundredths off through the middle sector as Portoleto gets himself out of the bottom six.
11:51But only just, it's a 1.14.8, is fractionally the right side of the cutoff point.
11:57Minute and a half to go, on board with Lewis Hamilton then.
12:01That looked really nice.
12:02Well hooked up, close to the wall but not too close.
12:06Dash to the line for Lewis Hamilton.
12:08And only fifth fastest, that final sector,
12:11where maybe the Ferrari is running out of a bit of extra battery juice that is needed and cost him
12:18on that occasion.
12:19Yeah, and they're showing fresh tyres, I think, on they for Hamilton as well.
12:22So, it looks like both McLarens have used a fresh set of tyres as well on their second runs.
12:29So, but at the moment, Antonelli, Jar, Russell and Verstappen all look like they've just been on one used set
12:38of tyres.
12:39And those four drivers in the garage and have decided they've done more than enough in this session to get
12:45themselves through.
12:46Verstappen with a 1.14.0 as the slowest of that quartet.
12:51Coller Pinto goes P12 as into the final chicane we go with Liam Lawson.
12:59There, will power his way to the line.
13:02He's going to put a bit of distance between himself in the bottom six but he can't.
13:05Lawson at P11 with a time of a 1.14.3.
13:09That may be good enough if that projected time is right.
13:12But the track is definitely ramping up out there.
13:15Although Ocon in his middle sector, quite as quick as he would have liked in the Haas,
13:21that they're trying to find the pace and extract the pace from this new upgrade.
13:25Pretty good coming out of that hairpin.
13:29Fernando Alonso is a tenth outside the time he needs to get out of the bottom six.
13:33Ocon will see the chequered flag in a few moments' time.
13:37For a driver here in Montreal in the past who has made it into the top ten on every occasion
13:43bar 2024.
13:45And he's just the right side of the line.
13:48But with others improving behind him and Behrman going now 12th fastest,
13:52Ocon still very much in the danger zone.
13:54Fernando Alonso gets to the line, goes P18, that's it.
13:58Got into the second part of sprint qualifying, can't get into the second part of qualifying for the Grand Prix.
14:04Charles Leclerc being told we need to box and he's wondering did we break something on the car.
14:09A bit of urgency there for the team telling him to come in.
14:12Hülkenberg's got the urgency to try and get into Q2.
14:15And he does so, but only just.
14:17It pushes now Bortoleto into further trouble and Alex Albon towards the bottom six as well.
14:24Bottas, Stroll, Perez, Alonso, Bortoleto and Albon all in that bottom six.
14:28And Ocon just the right side of the line.
14:31Bortoleto on his second visit to Montreal last year was here as a rookie.
14:37This year gets in a P16 and gets himself out of that bottom six.
14:42Who's improving behind?
14:44Nobody in terms of green times.
14:47And Alex Albon out on the track not setting the pace alight.
14:52So I think he's going to have an early bath here and pits at the end of that lap.
14:57Cadillac, Bottas with the slowest time.
15:00And we can see here what might have happened to him on his flying lap.
15:05Big lock up.
15:11Yeah, so frustrating when you do that in the first corner.
15:13It just feels hopeless.
15:15You know, there's really...
15:16And then you can see the flat spot on his tyre there.
15:20And a...
15:20Whoa!
15:22He nearly ended up in the same barrier as Fernando Alonso yesterday,
15:25but sideways instead of forwards.
15:27So it was actually a very good save.
15:30Yeah.
15:30That was drifting on the grass there for Lance Stroll.
15:35He, sadly for him, the Montreal boy is out of qualifying.
15:39Will occupy the back row along with Valtteri Bottas.
15:42Sergio Perez out qualified by Fernando Alonso, 20th and 19th.
15:45Albon 18th.
15:47And Esteban Ocon didn't make it through for Haas.
15:51Fastest driver, Kimi Antonelli, a 1.13.3.
15:54Couple of tenths head of Lando Norris.
15:57Antonelli looking good.
16:02Let's keep watching.
16:33Oh!
16:33Oh!
16:33Ted Kravitz, what have you got for us?
16:35Yeah, just a couple of things from down here as the two Audis of Portalesso and Hülkenberg
16:39trundle past me.
16:40First of all, great job by Arvid Lindblad.
16:42Again, in the top seven in Q1.
16:45Very close.
16:46Good job by Carlos Sainz, considering Alex Albon still hasn't got his eye in here.
16:50Only missed out by a hundredth of a second on Q2.
16:54So poor Alex Albon is out.
16:57And Esteban Ocon, who is into Q2, has also got away with, well not got away with, they
17:03found out there was never an infraction about letting some air out of his tyres on the sprint
17:09race grid.
17:10I don't know if you've seen the parish notice, Crofty, but he was under investigation.
17:13Everyone was worried about it.
17:15And, well, here's one I haven't heard before.
17:17The scrutineer made a mistake.
17:19He thought he saw somebody letting air out of the tyres, which would have been a big no-no.
17:22And it wasn't.
17:23It was just an electrical lead.
17:25Happens to the best of us.
17:26Absolutely.
17:27That's good news, Rockon.
17:29The bad news is he is out of qualifying, I'm afraid.
17:32Ted, Bernie, down to you.
17:34Yeah, just quickly, Crofty, all 15 cars out there on track at the moment.
17:38Oh, Carlos Sainz has just come back in.
17:40But what I was going to say is he was the only one on used tyres.
17:43But he's just done an out-in, maybe a quick pit stop now, and then they'll all be out
17:47on new tyres.
17:48Are you expecting, Bernie, lots and lots of double warm-up laps here?
17:52Is tyre preparation becoming ever more tricky this afternoon?
17:57It's been a real mix so far, Crafty, Crofty.
18:00Both of the Mercedes, not Crafty, you're Crafty and Crofty.
18:04Both of the Mercedes did prep laps the last time around, but that was on a used tyre.
18:08So it will be interesting on the new tyre to see what they do.
18:11Most people who did that last session did indeed do a prep lap.
18:15So that is potentially the way to go, Crafty.
18:17And it will be interesting, again, to see in this session, if there's two laps on it,
18:21two push laps on it, is still the way to go to get that tyre working properly.
18:24Bernard Collins on the Sky Pit rule for you this afternoon.
18:28Crafty, indeed.
18:29Right, Lando Norris on this preparation lap.
18:34Get the tyre temperature right, get the battery topped up right.
18:38Don't overdo it, don't underdo it.
18:40Rub your tummy, pat your head, and hope that everything's working.
18:43Martin, when you cross the line, take us through a lap with Lando.
18:46Yeah, I'd want to do the prep on the dirty side of the back straight,
18:49but that's what he was doing, and he's still not really going for it, is he?
18:53This is still another prep lap, so Lando, basically, or is he?
18:59Sometimes they don't really give it full beans until they've exited the last corner.
19:03Let's see what his sector time is, because they look pretty steady coming onto the pit straight,
19:08but of course the timing beam is a long way down there.
19:10He's certainly pushing through turns three and four.
19:12The more you do it out of the final corner, the less you've got in your battery when you cross
19:18the line.
19:18That's the big difference this year.
19:21Absolutely.
19:23So, down the bumpy straight, under the bridge, everything goes a little bit dark under there,
19:30and the car jumps around, but luckily the corners are always in the same place when you come out of
19:35the shadow.
19:36It's just your car is not always in the same place, and a heavy, heavy braking zone.
19:42Down here, you want to get off the pedal, crate pedal, long before you get to the apex of the
19:47corner.
19:48In the rain, that little left kink there onto this piece of straight is terrifying.
19:53In the dry, you don't even really notice it.
19:56And there we go.
19:58We've got to tip this in, and a sort of a hot skip and a jump over those curves,
20:03and loading the inside wheels as much as you can.
20:06Stay a little bit right for the line, and we're in the low one-minute thirteens.
20:12So, we've got to be expecting 12s, haven't we, this afternoon?
20:15All on the new tyres, of course.
20:17Two sets of used tyres used by McLaren during Q1.
20:21Piastri slots in a couple of tenths behind his teammate.
20:24McLaren, one and two.
20:25Lewis Hamilton on his run down towards the final chicane,
20:30as Nico Hülkenberg, on his latest lap, goes 11th fastest.
20:32And Liam Lawson now pops up into P7, and Oli Behrman into P5.
20:39Hamilton to the line, goes second fastest, only three one-hundredths off Lando Norris.
20:45Barely anything to choose between the two British drivers.
20:48Yeah, Lewis really plays dear against that champion's wall, doesn't he, on the exit of the corner.
20:53He likes being up close and personal with that.
20:56And Leclerc then gives it a little bit more of a margin.
20:59What's it done for his lap time?
21:01Not a whole lot.
21:02He's a second shy.
21:03But a little bit more productive than his run in Q1,
21:11where he thought something on the car was broken.
21:14That might have been Groundhog related as well, I'm being told.
21:19Meanwhile, Portoleta goes seventh fastest.
21:21Here comes the Mercedes.
21:22Russell is fast.
21:24Antonelli quite a bit faster behind him as Russell goes into P4.
21:28Antonelli's about to smash that and go to the top of the table.
21:32I wouldn't be at all surprised.
21:34Still doesn't quite get into the twirls, but we're nearly there.
21:36Yeah, well predicted.
21:37And a couple of tenths.
21:39Well, tenth and a half up on Lando Norris.
21:41Hülkenberg, seventh fastest.
21:42Good lap from him.
21:43But Verstappen to come, maybe Sainz to come,
21:48Lindblad to come with quick laps to get into that top ten.
21:51We'll see if Hülkenberg can hang on with Verstappen down towards that hairpin.
21:57Currently a 20.9, a 23.2 for his sector time.
22:02So he's there or thereabout, but not on the pace, I would say, of Kimi Antonelli.
22:07About four tenths shy of Antonelli.
22:10As the battery drains almost to empty by the end of that back straight.
22:16And now how much has he got to deploy down that main straight?
22:20Enough to take him fifth fastest.
22:23He ends up, Max Verstappen, four tenths off the pace.
22:27Yeah, he didn't take the tight right line to the line.
22:29Hadjar goes second then.
22:31He's certainly looking a lot happier than he was in Miami.
22:34Because Max was trying to steal the slipstream of the car just a little bit up the road from him.
22:40He said he'd come and take the fight to Max Verstappen this weekend.
22:44And he's done just that.
22:45He was out qualified in spring qualifying, but only by a tenth of a second.
22:48It has to be said.
22:50Yesterday evening where the track temperature was about 12, 13 degrees cooler than it is now.
22:56The air temperature, albeit warmer, the sun is not out here and not baking the asphalt, as it were.
23:02Charles Leclerc then on a lap at 20.9 for the first sector.
23:06Three tenths down on Kimi Antonelli's best sector time.
23:10Through the next chicane he goes.
23:12And now the long run with the active aero dumping that drag towards the hairpin.
23:16One of five heavy braking zones on this track.
23:20And he goes a lot wider through that hairpin.
23:22Hopes to get the slingshot out of it for the time, the long straight down towards the final chicane.
23:29Time to do a bit of thinking if you're a driver, Martin.
23:31You've got a few seconds to maybe relax.
23:33You have, but this is a key point.
23:35It's difficult to spot the braking zones there.
23:39You've got to have a reference point on the racetrack as well as the high markers up on the catch
23:44fencing.
23:44And he crosses the line.
23:46Leclerc's struggling.
23:47He's not really been competitive, has he?
23:50Super competitive, sort of front row threatening at any point in Q1 or Q2.
23:55Charles Leclerc.
23:56I can't get my front tyres in the window.
23:58Like, it's really, really bad.
24:00Like yesterday, the island is like driving on ice.
24:04Yeah.
24:04Bernie Collins was saying warm-up is an issue for a lot of cars out there.
24:08Charles Leclerc.
24:0913th, 3rd, 19th, 10th, 11th and 8th in terms of his qualifying here in Montreal.
24:15He's only reached Q3 in half of his six previous appearances.
24:19And that's Olivierman then getting it wrong under braking for the turn 7 and 8th chicane.
24:29Oh, it goes quiet for a couple of moments.
24:31Serenity returns to the Yle-Notre-Dame, but it's not going to go quiet for long as Liam Lawson is
24:37now preparing for his first lap.
24:41Well, that's to come because I don't think he feels his tyres are in the right window and he's going
24:46to go for another warm-up lap here.
24:49Max Verstappen struggling a bit to get temperature into his tyres and I think Liam Lawson is the same.
24:57Ah, that is why he abandoned that one.
24:59That's true.
24:59Yeah, so the problem is the tyres come out of the blankets at 70.
25:05You then trundle down the pit lane out onto the racetrack and you've got to get them up to 100,
25:11100 plus where they really give you the grip, where the rubber is melting to give you the grip.
25:17You only need the grooves in your tyres to clear the water.
25:20So that's why we have slick tyres in the drive, a maximum amount of rubber trying to bite into the...
25:27And it's quite technical actually, incredibly technical about the quality of the stone in the tarmac and how the rubber
25:35integrates with that and gives you the grip.
25:39So it's all voodoo, always has been, always will be the voodoo of the tyres.
25:44You can control everything else to the nth degree in motorsport and Formula One in particular.
25:49But just getting those tyres, the carcass of the tyre, the pressure, the surface of the tyre, absolutely right.
25:57That's why the leading team certainly do a lot of tyre simulations back at base with different bits of asphalt
26:02and tarmac and different tyres as well.
26:04Right, to the pit lane, Barney Collins.
26:08Well done Crofty, this is going to run and run, I think.
26:11I was just going to say, it's getting very busy out there on track, but we did see those images
26:15of Charlotte Clare being stopped at the waybridge at the beginning of the pit lane.
26:19He's only now just made it back into the garage.
26:21How quickly can they get that car turned around and back out?
26:25Because they want again to try and do a prep push.
26:28And I think he might lose out on that.
26:30So it might just be out in a single flyer lap for Charlotte Clare, which isn't the prep.
26:34He can only refuel, thanks Bernie, in the garage.
26:38And he might, well if he needs two laps, it might just be the one.
26:43Charlotte Clare struggling a touch here in Montreal.
26:46As I say, he's only reached Q3 in half of his appearances in the past.
26:51Lawson's got very close to the wall.
26:53Yeah, he got a little bit wide on the entry to that chicane, which put him wide through the exit.
26:59Probably slightly distracted by the traffic, right?
27:02Look at the acceleration, they've got over a thousand horsepower.
27:05These things take off, just a relentless acceleration.
27:09You get a beep in your ear to tell you when to shift gear.
27:12And they just keep, they feel like they're going to take off, basically.
27:16And then you have to slow them down again.
27:18Which he does.
27:19He slows it down very nicely indeed.
27:21He gets a bit bumpy, though, on the exit as he goes a little bit wider than he wanted.
27:25And Liam Lawson stays in that bottom six.
27:28He has Carla Sainz and Franco Colopinto for company, along with Bortoleto and Behrman and Gasly.
27:34This is George Russell with a big lock-up going into Turn 1.
27:38And there's a lap that goes begging straight away.
27:41Russell down in eighth place.
27:43Suddenly, the pressure is on.
27:46Well, there'll be, if he gets through into Q3, he'll wipe anything out of his mind so far.
27:53But his teammate, Kimi Antonelli, has hit the ground really running.
27:58The man who's got three pole positions in the last three Grand Prix, trying to make it four in a
28:04row and looking good so far.
28:05And Gasly next to enter the arena that is the Wall of Champions, turn 13 and 14.
28:13Can he get out of the bottom six?
28:15No, he can't.
28:16That's enough time to cool down and start again.
28:20But Gasly's leaving it late here.
28:22What saves the big guns a little bit this year so far is the field's been spread with these new
28:27regulations.
28:28It always happens until they start coming back together again.
28:32But, you know, you can have a bit of a scruffy lap in a Mercedes.
28:35You're not going to have five or six other teams pouring past you like you were last year, for example,
28:41in the final stages of the ground effect era.
28:46Pierre Gasly, by the way, slowest qualifier last year.
28:49But he has made Q3 at the last three Grand Prix.
28:53Only one Q3 appearance here in six previous starts.
28:57Meanwhile, George Russell, who's had the last three pole positions in Montreal.
29:02Dead heating with Max Verstappen in 2024.
29:05He got his lap in first and then 0.16 of a second quicker than Max Verstappen last year and
29:11then taking pole for the sprint is en route.
29:13Hamilton's flying fast as first sector, which he's tended to be very, very good through there.
29:18Trying to steal a bit of slipstream there.
29:21Solid middle sector.
29:22So Lewis then, if he can flow nicely through this last chicane and just a little bit of sliding as
29:29he hits the throttle, he's heading to the line.
29:32And what does it do for him?
29:33Puts him fastest.
29:341.13-0 for the six-time pole sitter here in Montreal.
29:39The Ferrari deployment is all in the first part of the lap.
29:42Well, a lot of it is in the first part of the lap.
29:44The Mercedes deployment actually gives them, I think, a bit more towards the end of the lap.
29:49What's Russell got here?
29:50Third fastest.
29:51Top three separated by less than four 100ths.
29:54Wait till Hadjar comes over the line.
29:56This might be very interesting.
29:57Yeah, Max Verstappen stealing a toe behind Franco Colopinto.
30:02Verstappen's seventh fastest.
30:03Gasly to start his final lap ahead of this man, Liam Lawson, who is completing another lap.
30:10And by four 100ths of a second, missing out on the top ten.
30:13Here comes Hadjar, and he goes quickest.
30:17And it is very, very tight.
30:19Less than two tenths between the top five currently.
30:22And another impressive run by Isaac Hadjar, who now dips into the one-minute twelves.
30:28And he's the first driver to do that.
30:30Yeah, he was putting a very, very tidy lap together as Norris now goes up into third place.
30:36Look how close that is.
30:38Top five covered by a tenth of a second.
30:41Always pretty close there on the grid.
30:43But extraordinary when you think you've got four different teams in that top five.
30:49Gabriel Bortoletto was 15th on the grid for his first year here in Montreal.
30:53He's 13th on the grid this year.
30:55Sainz is out.
30:56Behrman is out.
30:57Gasly's going for it.
30:58Leclerc is going for it.
31:00He's currently P9.
31:01And Lawson and Hülkenberg also out on the track.
31:04Kimi Antonelli was the last driver to cross the line before the chequered flag.
31:08Leclerc goes ahead of Lindblad.
31:10Should be safe in P8.
31:12Who's improving?
31:13Gasly has put in two personal bests here.
31:16And to the line goes Pierre Gasly.
31:19He misses out the head of Sainz and Behrman.
31:21But not enough.
31:22P14 for him.
31:24And he's going to be out qualified again by his teammate Franco Colopinto.
31:29Who is showing a little bit of pace at the moment since his 23rd birthday next...
31:34Sorry, celebrates his 23rd birthday next Wednesday.
31:37He is out qualified Gasly for two sprint and two Grand Prix qualifying sessions in a row.
31:44He's like a new driver, isn't he, Franco Colopinto?
31:46He's like a switch.
31:48He just suddenly got on the programme in Miami and has looked very strong indeed.
31:53But Lindblad, another excellent performance from him into Q3.
31:59Leclerc just creeping in.
32:00He does not have the pace of Hamilton here this weekend in terms of raw pace on any given lap.
32:06But Max then, Max is not as quick as Hadjar either as Isaac Hadjar.
32:11Extraordinary.
32:12Could be a few surprises here.
32:14Isaac Hadjar with the fastest time.
32:17George Russell down in P5 behind his teammates.
32:21Separated by three 100s.
32:22Anthony didn't need another lap in the end.
32:24Just a tenth between the top five.
32:26And the bottom six, Behrman, Sainz, Gasly, Bortoletto, Lawson.
32:32And I said it, didn't I?
32:33I'm not sure what's going to happen.
32:34But if Nico Hülkenberg qualifies 11th, I won't be surprised.
32:38He starts P11 for tomorrow's Grand Prix.
32:53Audi sponsors Formula One on Sky Sports.
32:56Happy birthday.
32:58Very impressive lap out of the car.
32:59And suddenly his straight line speed looked really good.
33:02When I start to look into that a little bit, Hamilton picked up a tow, i.e. being quite close
33:08to the car ahead,
33:09at most of the streets through that lap.
33:11And that, I think, is what Charles Leclerc is complaining about.
33:15Ferrari are trying to target a tow to help their straight line speed.
33:19It's hurting them a bit in the corners, but that's where Ferrari are strong.
33:22So, overall, it's leading to a slightly better lap time that Hamilton's happy with, but maybe not for Charles Leclerc.
33:29So, something to look out for there.
33:31Brilliant insight.
33:31Thanks, Bernie.
33:32I've run out of alternative names now.
33:34Martin Brundle, we've seen Ferrari go for the tow in the past and it not pay off.
33:39But it's alarming, isn't it, that they feel they need to do that, because they haven't got the straight line
33:44speed.
33:45Yeah, and Charles is saying, look, do not put me anywhere near anybody else.
33:49Give me some clear air and let me just drive the car.
33:52Tow being a slipstream, where the car, apparently, of course, is punching a hole in the air.
33:57Yeah, and it enables you to go a little bit faster.
34:01Extremely handy in a straight line.
34:03Not at all what you need in the corners, because that turbulent air damages your downforce.
34:08And, in fact, what it does in a straight line, it damages your downforce and your drag.
34:12And you go faster in a straight line, because you don't need the downforce in a straight line.
34:16There's Isaac Hadjar, lead Red Bull in Q1 and Q2.
34:19This is where it counts the most, though, and his teammates have been on the front row here for the
34:23last couple of years.
34:24With George Russell ahead of him, the front row being identical.
34:29At the moment, it's Hadjar and Hamilton, who are the fastest drivers in Q2.
34:36The front row for Lewis Hamilton, by the way, will be his 11th in Montreal,
34:41which I think ties his own F1 record for the most front rows at one circuit.
34:45He's got 11 in Abu Dhabi, Hungara Ring, and Silverstone, too.
34:50Has Charles Leclerc got some nice, clean air?
34:53His teammate Lewis Hamilton just going through turn two, while Charles Leclerc crosses the line.
34:59And that, Martin, is for another preparation lap.
35:01Yeah, there's nobody out there setting fast sector times yet.
35:06They come up as purple, if you're watching that particular app,
35:10because it's the fastest in this session so far.
35:13But nobody's really pumping in really quick sector times yet, because they're preparing themselves.
35:21And they are all on new tyres, apart from Arvid Lindblad, the only driver out there on used tyres currently.
35:28They're just teasing us, basically, aren't they?
35:30And then they'll go for it.
35:32Some things are worth waiting for, I would imagine.
35:35And news from Alpine, Pierre Gasly, who we said might have had a bit of a groundhog,
35:42a marmot incident in Q1, did get a bit more floor damage than they thought.
35:47Some significant floor damage for him, which could explain his 1.14.8 and his exit in Q2.
35:54Max Verstappen is off and away, and heading around the 2.7 miles of the circuit, Gilles Villeneuve.
36:01Yeah, when you're driving, you never realise you're running alongside the St. Lawrence Seaway.
36:05You're just busy focusing on those walls and the barriers.
36:09It's a 20.6 first sector for Max.
36:11Pretty handy.
36:12That's a pretty good first sector time.
36:15And very, very wide.
36:17They're just kicking up a little bit of dust, but there's no problem.
36:19You've got plenty of grip there to handle that.
36:21Cheat, a bit of track on the outside to minimise the angle of the turn into that chicane.
36:26Carrying a lot of speed as well, wasn't he?
36:28So, Hadjar, others are doing 20.6 first sector as well.
36:33Max is on a better lap.
36:35The Red Bull doesn't tend to take such a tight apex through the hairpin.
36:39They run a metre or two off the inside kerb.
36:43They like to freewheel more and keep a little bit more speed around a longer line.
36:47And then heading into the final chicane.
36:50So, what is Max Verstappen?
36:52They've got caught his attention to be 4.10 slower than his team-mate in Q2.
36:56And we're about to see the answer to that, I would well imagine.
37:01But it's a 13.4.
37:02It only actually matches his Q2 time.
37:04But he was up on Isaac Hadjar through the first two sectors.
37:08And as Hadjar now crosses the line, half a second difference between them.
37:11Piastri put in a storming middle sector.
37:14Lost a bit of time in the first part of the lap.
37:16But goes quickest by nearly half a second.
37:19Piastri takes provisional pole.
37:20But his team-mate Lando Norris behind him can snatch that provisional pole off him by just under three-tenths
37:26of a second.
37:27Lewis Hamilton flying in the first sector.
37:29About a tenth off Lando Norris in the middle part of the lap.
37:32What's the Ferrari got to the end of the lap?
37:34Enough for a front row currently.
37:36Just a tenth between Norris and Hamilton with Leclerc.
37:40Russell and Antonelli to come to try and ruin Lewis Hamilton's front row party.
37:45Here's Charles Leclerc.
37:46Crosses the line.
37:47And P4 for him is an improvement, I think, on what we'd seen before from him and the Ferrari.
37:52Now eyes turn to George Russell.
37:54Yeah, Leclerc said it's the wall or eighth at the moment is fourth, thankfully.
37:58But George Russell then going into the pits as Antonelli goes down the pit straight.
38:05Right, George Russell wasn't happy with his particular lap.
38:08Antonelli crosses the line.
38:10And Kimi Antonelli, four-tenths nearly, off the pace.
38:14Now that is something of a turnaround.
38:16Just when we were expecting a Mercedes charge towards the line.
38:21One pit and the other doesn't make it to the front row.
38:24He hit the wall, didn't he?
38:27Certainly looked very, very close.
38:29I think he might have damaged the right rear or got a puncture against the wall, George Russell.
38:33Let's watch.
38:37Nothing on the rear.
38:39No grip.
38:40Did he hit the wall on the outside of turn four?
38:44I think when we just joined him, it just felt instantly like we were hitting the wall.
38:50So I think it's damaged the wheel or the rear suspension or what have you.
38:54We'll get a replay of that, hopefully.
38:56But I think exit of four up against that wall, he might have tapped the wall and given himself a
39:04puncture or worse still, some right rear suspension damage.
39:09Was he complaining yesterday about a lack of rear grip at times, George Russell?
39:15What's going on with this straight line speed?
39:17Because it's completely...
39:21Well, he's ahead of his teammate, but he's very much off the pace by about seven-tenths of a second.
39:27Max Verstappen.
39:28If there is any damage, it's very, very slight to George Russell's car, and he's out there now.
39:33Yeah.
39:33So George then, fresh tyres quite early.
39:36He's out of kilter with where he'd ideally ought to be running now, but he can stay out.
39:42He'll have to fuel it a little bit longer, I imagine, to make sure he can get the lap in.
39:46Ted.
39:47Yeah, Russell's rear tyres looked OK.
39:49They all looked pressured when he passed me in the pit lane.
39:51So maybe it just was the car out of the handling window.
39:55And I wonder if Max Verstappen, I mean, he would have known that what we eyeballed in the pit lane,
39:59they looked to have put a bit more wing on it.
40:03But, of course, maybe this 180 wing on the Red Bull isn't quite dumping the drag the way they thought
40:09to make Max say that we're just not quick in a straight line.
40:13Well, he's certainly got a much bigger rear wing than others around him.
40:17You could be on for one there.
40:19Ted, look forward to the post-qualifying notebook a little later on.
40:25Lando Norris has provisional pole position.
40:27Lewis Hamilton alongside him on the front row.
40:30Last time Lewis was on the front row, Silverstone, 20-24, which, of course, he won.
40:35But there's another run to come.
40:37Bernie, down to you.
40:38Yeah, just quickly to pick up on Ted's point, really.
40:41When I start to look at Verstappen's overlay, when I start to look at his data about the straight line
40:45speed,
40:45initially in the straight looks OK, but down into turn 8 and again into turn 10,
40:51the Red Bull starts to deviate, so starts to lose speed much earlier than the competition.
40:57So 50 metres earlier, I would say, into turn 8 and maybe another 60 to 70 into turn 10.
41:04So end of straight, he's losing a lot of speed.
41:07I think that's where the competition is coming from.
41:09Thanks, Bernie.
41:12Yeah, so Russell then, when he starts his lap, he might find a lot of drivers out there slowly doing
41:19their out lap.
41:21Russell's not stuck in yet because he's still in preparation mode.
41:26But he'll have enough fuel, I'm sure, to do fast, well, slow, slow, fast.
41:32Maybe, can he do another slow now?
41:34He's going to struggle.
41:35George has really got to get it done.
41:37Did not have Mercedes-Benz in 4th and 8th in my, 10th in my mind for this grid tomorrow.
41:45But that's probably not how it's going to end up.
41:47Well, we shall see.
41:49The last five Grand Prix have been won from pole position.
41:52If you want to extend the stats, 12 of the last 14 Grand Prix, it is very, very important to
41:59get that pole position.
42:01And for George Russell, Montreal, the only circuit in which he's taken multiple poles at two in the last two
42:07Grand Prix.
42:07Add the Sprint Grand Prix pole yesterday to that collection.
42:12And is it going to be four in a row?
42:14Let's see, Martin Brundle.
42:17It's so hard to tell if they're really going for it because they're so late on the throttle, aren't they,
42:21before they get to the line to keep their battery intact?
42:23The back end of the car sliding around on the exit of turn two.
42:27This is where we picked him up last time.
42:29Five's flat out these days.
42:32And then this is where the back end let go before.
42:35And he seems slightly tentative, but he's on his way.
42:40Needs a 20.6, 20.5 first sector.
42:43He has a 20.6.
42:44Max, so he's got space ahead of him to drive into.
42:49Franco Colopinto, just the car.
42:52You can't quite see him in the distance going around the hairpin now.
42:56There he is, just making his way through.
42:58George Russell is a 10.5 off the pace here.
43:00Will, I would imagine, have another lap up his sleeve in terms of fuel to contend with
43:06because he's gone out there a little bit earlier than the others.
43:08Max Verstappen behind him.
43:10And Max Verstappen is on a flying lap, but down significantly on George Russell.
43:15Russell getting a nice bit of slipstream there from the back marker,
43:20getting ready to do his flying lap.
43:22Over the line he goes, stays hard right.
43:24It's only P3, quarter of a second behind Norris.
43:27This is a surprise.
43:29It can be repaired for George Russell.
43:33Max Verstappen down in seventh, really struggling with straight line speed.
43:37Is that all about deployment, I wonder?
43:40Max being hampered, as Bernie was saying,
43:42losing speed compared to cars around him 50 meters
43:45before the braking zone at turn eight and turn 10.
43:48Kimi Antonelli is currently in P5 with his latest run to come.
43:53And it looks like, as he's not weaving down the straight,
43:56this is his next run to come.
43:57The man who's taken the pole in the last three Grand Prix.
44:00And his last full beans lap as well.
44:04He's got to spot all those braking points absolutely perfectly.
44:07Really needs a 20.5, 20.4 first sector.
44:12If he can, if he wants to stick this on pole position,
44:15we'll see what that is shortly.
44:19But Antonelli on his, it's a 20.5.
44:21He's fastest of anybody.
44:23So the lap has started very, very well for the teenager.
44:27The man who took his maiden podium position with third here in Montreal last year from fourth on the grid.
44:34He's got the slight advantage.
44:36Charles Leclerc is right there with him, though.
44:38It's just mere hundreds of a second between it as Antonelli drives through a cloud of dust that I dare
44:44say was kicked up by one of the cars in front.
44:46And he's now fractionally outside of a time he needs for pole position.
44:51Hamilton hasn't had the best first sector.
44:53He's a couple of tenths down.
44:54Yeah, it was a 23.0 for the middle sector for Antonelli.
44:58So he's got it all to do now through the final chicane.
45:01You've got to really commit and flow through here.
45:04You make a mistake on the way and you'll never rescue it.
45:07Absolutely flat out through the exit car, moving around.
45:11And Antonelli does go fastest.
45:14Three poles in a row.
45:16Could be four poles in a row in Grand Prix's for Kimi Antonelli.
45:20They are charging fast behind him.
45:22The two McLarens improving in the middle sector.
45:25Leclerc goes to P4.
45:26Lewis Hamilton, his teammate, down in P3.
45:30And Hamilton, he's gone and made way here for the charging Lando Norris.
45:34I'm assuming Ferrari think he can still make it to the line in time.
45:38Right, can Lando Norris snatch pole position back again?
45:41No, he's on the front row and it leaves Kimi Antonelli out in front.
45:45But here's Oscar Piastri next across the line for McLaren.
45:49What can he do?
45:50Only third.
45:51Antonelli stays on pole position.
45:54But George Russell goes fastest through the middle sector.
45:58Hajar next across the line.
45:59P5 for him.
46:00Well ahead of his teammate, Max Verstappen,
46:02who says it's just impossible out there at the moment.
46:05George Russell through the final chicane.
46:08We've got Kimi Antonelli trying to make it four poles in a row.
46:11Here in Montreal is it four poles in a row for Russell.
46:14It is by merest hundredths of a second.
46:17George Russell's done it right at the end.
46:20Verstappen goes P6.
46:22And just ahead of his teammate, Isaac Hajar.
46:24And it was nip and tuck between the two Mercedes drivers.
46:28But like sprint qualifying, George Russell has left his best till last.
46:35And he takes it.
46:36What a brilliant qualifying session.
46:38That was pure class from the lot of them.
46:42Absolutely full commitment.
46:44The drivers went out and made the difference.
46:46Wherever they were, whatever they were struggling with,
46:48they went out and just threw caution to the wind.
46:51Gave it absolutely everything.
46:53Lewis Hamilton pitted at the end of his lap, unfortunately.
46:57And presumably he's going to have a moment somewhere.
47:00There.
47:01Big over...
47:02Oh, yeah, up against the wall.
47:03And he knows that that's effectively thrown away a quarter, half second.
47:08And that matters a lot these days.
47:10So he's been pushing the car hard, has Lewis Hamilton.
47:14Hasn't had an awful lot of payback on that lap.
47:17But what skill.
47:18What absolute commitment.
47:20Brilliant.
47:21Nice work.
47:22Nice work.
47:23Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
47:25Yes!
47:27Whoa.
47:28Well done, mate.
47:29Keep me posted.
47:30Is that good enough?
47:30Yep, yep.
47:31That is good enough.
47:33Well done.
47:35Oh, we made that a bit tricky.
47:38I would love to know what George Russell did differently on that lap
47:43compared to previous laps,
47:45where he seemed to be, you know, a little bit off the pace.
47:48It's not by much in Q2, it has to be said,
47:50compared to his teammate.
47:52Antonelli pushed him hard here.
47:53And was thinking for a moment, this is four Grand Prix poles in a row.
47:58It's the most exhilarating feeling in the world when it comes last minute out of nowhere.
48:04Good job.
48:05Yep, it certainly is, George.
48:07It certainly is.
48:08And for him, it's pole position and another Mercedes front row lockout.
48:12And another McLaren second row lockout, with Norris just ahead of Piastri.
48:18Max Verstappen joins Lewis Hamilton on row three.
48:22Isaac Hadjar and Charles Leclerc will battle it out on row four.
48:26For Arvid Lindblad ahead of Franco Colopinto to complete the top ten.
48:31What a qualifying that was.
48:33He's there.
48:35Just about, Kimi Antonelli.
48:37But George Russell, in a weekend which we all said was a big weekend so far, has just got the
48:42edge.
48:42Yeah, we're looking at the psychology now, aren't we, of this world championship.
48:46And George Russell knows he's got to somehow just keep in control of everything, of Mercedes, of his performance, and
48:57just be the main man.
49:01Was it 68 milliseconds, 68 thousandths of a second?
49:05I think that was at the margin yesterday as well.
49:08Between these two, you just can't separate them by much, can you?
49:14You really can't.
49:15I feared we were going to have much bigger gaps at the start of this season with such new regulations,
49:19but they're homing in.
49:22Verstappen, four tenths, three and a bit tenths off pole position, a third of a second.
49:27You sort of imagine that's doable somewhere, somehow, don't you?
49:32But, yeah.
49:35Max's saying there, Martin.
49:36Max's saying there's something really wrong, guys.
49:39It's not possible.
49:40He's not happy with that car.
49:42He at least out qualifies his teammate, just three hundredths of a second, in it's between Verstappen and Hadjar.
49:51Disappointing for him, the man who's been on the front row the last couple of years here in Montreal.
49:57And for McLaren, it was looking good until the two Mercedes produced their best times on their final runs.
50:05Verstappen, half a second, Q2 to Q3.
50:08That's the difference.
50:10The great drivers.
50:12I was never quite good enough.
50:14I was decent in quality.
50:15But somehow, people I was up against, Michael Schumacher, Nick Hacken and Senna, they could go and find some time
50:23that didn't appear to be available.
50:26And we've just seen that.
50:28George, wow.
50:29A very, very close qualifying session in the end.
50:31Not the easiest obsession for you.
50:32Talk us through it.
50:34Yeah, it was always challenging coming back from the sprint race.
50:38The car feels very different.
50:39You're obviously into the qualifying format.
50:42We made some changes as a team.
50:44We need to review after if that was the right direction.
50:47And then, obviously, that last lap just sort of came from nowhere.
50:49And it was, yeah, just such a great feeling when it was such a challenging session.
50:54I mean, you just pull it all together that last lap to sort of throw yourself up the leaderboard was
50:58epic.
50:59What were the challenges?
51:00Because you ended up out of sync, you said you had an issue with the rear or something came in.
51:03And then, obviously, did the lap on the very last lap.
51:05But it was looking tough until then.
51:07Yeah, I mean, we made some changes based on the forecast for tomorrow.
51:12It may have hurt us a little bit for now.
51:14It just took the car out of sync a little bit.
51:16And, you know, both of us, you know, Kimi was definitely more competitive than I in that session.
51:21But we weren't as, you know, clear ahead of everybody else as we were yesterday.
51:26So, it was definitely a challenge.
51:27But, as I said, just managed to redial my driving in for that last lap and put it together.
51:31Nice.
51:32Kimi, you looked in control for most of the qualifying session, just missing out at the very end.
51:37How was that last lap?
51:38Do you think there was a bit more on the table?
51:40Yeah, I mean, it's always a bit hard to commit for lap one.
51:45It's been very difficult this weekend with the tyres, putting them in the right window.
51:51But, yeah, I was pretty happy.
51:54Of course, there was still a little bit left on the table.
51:56But George did a great lap.
51:58And, yeah, now it's on to tomorrow.
52:00And tomorrow is looking, I think, quite different conditions.
52:03Any thoughts on that?
52:04Yeah, I mean, we'll see.
52:05I mean, we'll see what the weather is going to be like.
52:07But, of course, we'll try to be ready for anything.
52:11Lando, P3, similar to yesterday.
52:14Is that the best you could have hoped for?
52:16Or do you think there's a bit more?
52:18It's always impossible to know.
52:20I feel like we did a good job out there today, honestly.
52:24You can always say it.
52:25But I'm sure everyone can say around here, it's a difficult track to kind of put everything together perfectly.
52:31But I think we did another good job.
52:32It's clear that these guys are just a little bit quicker.
52:34It's nice to be closer than we were yesterday.
52:36So, no, I mean, I had fun this morning.
52:39Of course, the weather's going to be different tomorrow.
52:40So, we'll wait and see.
52:42But we're in a good place.
52:43And we're in the place we need to be.
52:45Good luck tomorrow.
52:46And just back to you, George.
52:48Obviously, we saw some great racing earlier today.
52:51Do you think it's going to be the same again tomorrow?
52:52Are the gloves going to be off?
52:53Or have you been told something different?
52:55No, I mean, we've had a good chat since this morning.
52:58And, you know, we're both racing drivers.
53:02We both know what to do.
53:03We both respect one another.
53:04So, we'll go racing.
53:05I think, you know, we hope it's just battling the two of us.
53:08But we saw today how competitive everybody else is.
53:11Tomorrow looks to be wet.
53:12That's going to be a whole new challenge as well.
53:13So, to be honest, it's not really what we're thinking about now.
53:16We just want to ensure that we can be standing on the top step.
53:19Good luck.
53:20Thank you so much.
53:20Thanks, everybody.
53:25Yeah, great qualifying session.
53:27Same top three as yesterday.
53:29Same top five, actually, as yesterday.
53:32And the same margin between the two Mercedes drivers.
53:36But you could hear what that meant to George after that, as we said,
53:41feisty encounter in the sprint.
53:44You could expect a repeat of that tomorrow.
53:46But vastly different conditions are predicted.
53:50That is George's third consecutive pole position here in Montreal.
53:55It is a track that he loves.
53:56We know that.
53:57We knew that coming in to the weekend.
53:59The question is, can he convert it as he did last year?
54:04We shall see.
54:05But that's for tomorrow.
