00:00Member for Surrey North.
00:01Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
00:04Point of order on Parliament language from the Minister of Education and Child Care,
00:10calling my motion on Sikh, Genocide and Human Rights, gross, which is racist.
00:17I ask for an apology to all Sikh community and in the gallery of Sikh community
00:26and that the Minister retract.
00:30Minister of Education.
00:31Thank you, Chair.
00:33First off, absolutely I want to clarify the comment.
00:37It was inappropriate that I called the Leader of the Opposition, gross.
00:43I do withdraw that comment.
00:45Members, let's hear it.
00:46And I apologize to anyone in the gallery if there was any offense,
00:50but I do withdraw the comment to the Leader of the Opposition, calling him gross.
00:55I apologize.
00:57Leader of the Official Opposition.
01:00Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
01:01Mr. Speaker, I take great exception with the comments.
01:05The member from Surrey North stood in this house to put a motion forward on Sikh Genocide,
01:12which the government had a prerogative to nay, and they did.
01:16That is their right to do, to deny him that, which they took.
01:19But the Minister of Education does not have a right to come into this house and determine that motion to
01:27be gross.
01:28Mr. Speaker, I believe that she needs to apologize, not just in this house, but outside to that entire community.
01:34Member, the Minister stood up and she has already apologized and withdrawn her remark.
01:40Thanks moment for the support.
