A bride who became paralyzed while pregnant brought her groom to tears of pride on the altar when she surprised him by walking down the aisle under her own strength, having never used a walker in public. Kamilah collapsed and lost all feeling below her hips in late 2022. She was diagnosed with Transverse myelitis (TM), a rare inflammatory neurological disorder affecting both sides of a section of the spinal cord, and over time she regained feeling and speech “from the top down,” but could no longer feel below her hips. But after giving birth to her daughter, she was inspired by another paralyzed bride training to walk down the aisle, and found the motivation to work toward her own surprise. On her wedding day, after using her wheelchair for the earlier festivities to avoid suspicion, her coordinator slipped her a walker at the top of the aisle. The emotional moment stunned her father, the guests, and her now-husband Jaracus, who stood proudly weeping as she took every step under her own strength.

00:00Bride Camila had a secret only four people knew about, and the groom wasn't one of them.
00:07When my dad was like, are you going to walk? Like, you're walking? And I said, yes.
00:13While pregnant, Camila began experiencing mysterious symptoms, facial drooping, and sudden weakness.
00:20Then, during a movie night at home, she collapsed.
00:23Doctors diagnosed her with transverse myelitis, a rare condition leaving her nonverbal and unable to move for over a month.
00:33But even while paralyzed from the hips down, Camila never gave up.
00:38I had a spinal cord damage from T2 to T10. I couldn't move anything.
00:43She gave birth to a healthy baby girl and began the grueling rehab journey.
00:48During that time, we were just, you know, transitioning, being, having two kids and being in a wheelchair.
00:55That was a bit of a challenge mentally and physically, preparing and determined that, you know, we can do that
01:01as a family.
01:02With her wedding just months away, inspiration struck.
01:05She saw a video of another wheelchair user walking down the aisle and became determined to surprise her fiancé, Jericus,
01:14at the altar.
01:15I was very determined and encouraged that I really wanted to do this.
01:19To keep the surprise, she did her first-look photos in her wheelchair.
01:24But when it was time to head to the altar...
01:27That was actually my first time out at all walking in a walker.
01:32If you can hear, like, the background, people were just like, oh, she's walking, or just, like, tears that you
01:37can hear on the background.
01:40Not least, Jericus.
02:00It's always good to celebrate the good and the bad wins.
