Rental Family has quickly risen up high among my favorites of the year. Not only is it the latest movie to come out of the “Brenaissance” following Brendan Fraser's win at the 2023 Oscars for The Whale, it has a powerful message that has stuck with me since I got to watch the movie a month ago. The Rental Family cast told CinemaBlend about why it’s a real career highlight for each of them as well.

The movie has Fraser playing a struggling actor named Philip living in Tokyo, Japan who takes a job for a “rental family” service where he’s hired to play real roles in people’s lives. (And as it turns out, this is an actual service you can seek out in Japan!)

00:03to people gosh since that was my line i guess i'll go first um
00:12completely mercenary here but i'd say it's rental family i think this is a guy who finds that he
00:20had all these doubts and he really is enough and always was all along and the journey that he takes
00:28means that he needs to go through several incarnations in roles he plays as an actor
00:35in the lives of other people but the make-believe performative aspect of that melts away when
00:44the connections that he's making are are are real um this is a movie that's been getting
00:53a response from it from everyone who sees it yeah that is varied it's a little bit different but
00:59they all feel like they have connected somehow in a meaningful way just in the same way that the
01:06clients in the world of this film connect with the providers i think for me i'm also going to say
01:13rental
01:13family because very personal like reasons because i first read the script when i had just lost my dad
01:20so it was so impactful reading it just it gave me so much hope in a really dark time and
01:27having
01:27finished the project and talking to people who have seen it um i had i've had like really tender
01:33conversations with people who um say that it probably resonates so like differently for people who have
01:41lost people close to them you know and um that meant so much to me because that's what i felt
01:47you know
01:47it gave me hope when i first felt that way so hearing that it's doing the same for people who
01:52see it
01:53means a lot to me yeah and for me i guess um i don't really think about you know if
02:00i'm helping
02:01people when i but um i guess you know seeing the end product you know like this one you know
02:08it resonated
02:08people you know across the board and just amazing how it can affect you know people and so i guess
02:16the
