00:03This is a metafilm, but I can say that it's meta-genre, because you talk about a whole
00:11genre.
00:12What is your interest about this?
00:14You know, one of the first films I fell in love with as a kid was Scream, which, you
00:20know, I can look back on and think about in the context of the 90s, right?
00:24There was this moment around Tarantino where every film was very self-reflective and self-referentive,
00:30and quite meta, but as a kid, I just, I loved watching Scream and the way it invited me
00:36into the, the kind of like, it let me under the hood of the car a little bit.
00:41It showed me how the genre worked, but it like subverted it in ways that I just found very
00:48thrilling because it let me know that like, I could, yeah, it's just, it's another way
00:55to play with people's expectations.
00:56And I think that's why the Scream films have so beautifully like, um, uh, sort of, um,
01:04married meta self-referentiality to the slasher film.
01:09It's a genre with so many kind of like rules and conventions that we love and that we love
01:13to see over and over again for reasons that maybe we don't even completely understand.
01:17And by reflecting on that and kind of calling attention to it, I think the, those early
01:23Scream movies really did a lot of smart, um, and iconic, uh, film, filmmaking.
01:30Thank you.
