00:00Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has begun mass production of robo-taxis in what is being
00:07seen as a direct challenge to Tesla's driverless technology.
00:11The firm, based in Guangzhou, says its robo-taxis will be powered by four of its self-developed
00:18Turing AI chips with plans to start trials before the end of the year.
00:24Robo-taxis are emerging as the latest battleground between Xpeng and Tesla, alongside humanoid
00:30robots and smart electric vehicles.
00:33Founded in 2014, Xpeng has long been viewed as a Tesla challenger in China, competing with
00:40models like the Model 3 and Model Y.
00:43The company says it plans to begin pilot robo-taxi operations in the second half of 2026 to test
00:50user acceptance, technical performance and its business model.
00:54It aims to achieve fully autonomous operations without a safety officer on board by early
01:00next year.
01:01Xpeng says its robo-taxis will use Level 4 autonomous driving technology which allows the vehicles
