00:00prosecutors trying to put Luigi Mangione behind bars for the rest of his life got a step closer
00:04on Monday. A New York City judge ruled that jurors at his upcoming murder trial will get
00:09to see two of their strongest pieces of evidence against him, a 3D printed pistol allegedly used
00:14in the attack and a so-called manifesto found inside his backpack. Mangione, who is accused
00:19of assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in 2024, was banking on that evidence
00:24being tossed on a technicality. His high-powered lawyers argued that the cops at the Altoona,
00:30Pennsylvania McDonald's where Luigi was arrested didn't follow proper legal protocol. Manhattan
00:35Supreme Court Judge Gregory Caro did not agree. Caro did, however, block some other potentially
00:41damning evidence from being shown at trial, including a loaded magazine, Mangione's wallet
00:45and passport, and a computer chip. These are items cops got from Mangione's bag before they'd obtained
00:52a warrant. As with all Mangione hearings, Monday's proceedings brought out the wackos. The accused
01:00killer has literal fangirls, like he's Justin Bieber, who say that they're there because he's some sort of
01:06twisted folk hero for highlighting the issues of America's healthcare system. Healthcare system
01:12issues aside, I promise you these girls wouldn't be shrieking his name outside of court if he was
01:18middle-aged and toothless. Like, who are we kidding here? What is particularly problematic about this
01:24situation is that for some insane reason, the New York City mayor's office granted some of these
01:29people actual press passes, like the ones real actual members of the press have, which, by the way,
01:35are historically difficult to get. But apparently, former mayor Bill de Blasio relaxed the rules for
01:41press credentials. There are still some hoops. Now, one of these people, who I will not dignify by
01:46calling her a reporter, even though she has the pass, told the actual reporters outside the courthouse
01:52this, quote, I'm saying F Brian Thompson. I don't give a flying F he died. There's that objective
01:59reporting we were all taught in journalism school. Here's another gem from someone walking around with
02:03an official press pass, just like the one I have, quote, his children are better off without him.
02:09They need to learn to not be like their dad and enjoy the blood money, kids.
02:14Oof. Mangione's trial is set to begin on September 8th. He faces 25 years to life in prison in this
02:21case
02:21and is also separately charged in a federal murder case to be tried later this year.
