00:00Across France, there are thousands of spectacular chateaux, often neglected and run down.
00:09Oh my goodness.
00:10They weren't in the state of it.
00:12In desperate need of loving restoration.
00:15He's in his element down there doing this.
00:18Now being brought back to life by brave new owners.
00:22Fingers crossed that it's actually going to work when it's finished.
00:25Yeah.
00:26Who are turning them into extraordinary homes.
00:29I feel quite emotional about it, I love it.
00:31And exciting businesses.
00:35The day has gone swimmingly well.
00:38Taking on monumental challenges.
00:41Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:43With highs.
00:44I just think it's got elegance and I love that.
00:48As well as lows.
00:49Terry, where's the water in here?
00:51But with ambitious ideas.
00:54Terrace here, kitchen there, right next to the river, hook out a trout.
00:58And hard work.
01:00Comes great joy.
01:02It's absolutely fantastic.
01:05As they fulfill their dream.
01:07Cheers.
01:08Cheers, honey.
01:09To be custodians of their very own castle.
01:16Today.
01:17This isn't going to be that easy.
01:19Just waiting for that crack.
01:21One couple fear for their fragile courtyard creation.
01:24Please, you're making me nervous.
01:27This barn needs to be wedding ready.
01:30Basically, it will all be curtained.
01:32It will all be ruffled.
01:33In just a few weeks' time.
01:36I have a kind of an idea.
01:38But then, can I execute it?
01:40No.
01:41While this chateau owner risks it all.
01:45I just don't know if it's been put in for a purpose.
01:48Attempting to carve out a dream wine cellar.
01:58In the heart of the Languedoc region in southern France.
02:03Lies the stunning 19th century Chateau du Puy-et-Prin.
02:11With seven acres and 39 magnificent rooms.
02:16Overlooking a central courtyard.
02:18We planted this.
02:20Yeah.
02:21On Valentine's Day two years ago.
02:23Did we?
02:24It's been home to Tim and Sasha.
02:26Who bought it in 2003.
02:29For £390,000.
02:32Can you all squeeze in much tighter.
02:36After two decades.
02:39They have handed over the running of their thriving wedding business.
02:42To daughter Lily.
02:44And son-in-law Luke.
02:48Making the decision to come here permanently was a massive one.
02:55But the draw of the chateau just pulled us in.
03:01It's given back so much over the years.
03:05So much happiness.
03:06It's given us a lot of pleasure and pride now that our daughter and son-in-law are taking it
03:12over.
03:12Mm.
03:13And continuing.
03:14Because we're any custodians here.
03:17The building will be here long after we're not here.
03:22Located two hours from Toulouse.
03:26The last time we saw them, they had made a rustic love bench out of bamboo from the garden.
03:34Sometimes things work better when you're under more pressure.
03:38And a floral chandelier that scattered confetti right on cue.
03:47Wow.
03:48I think that worked.
03:50I think that worked well.
03:54And with this year's wedding season around the corner, Tim and Sasha now have grand plans to reinvent a blocked
04:05window.
04:07In the courtyard is a hidden window which has a horse trough underneath it.
04:13And I've found an old door with a curved window on the top of it that matches this, the shape
04:22of this hidden window.
04:23Where we're doing this is a sort of shady corner that just is neglected.
04:30It gets overgrown and it's just nothing's happening.
04:35It's going to look really interesting and pretty.
04:42Tim's first job is to remove the base of the reclaimed door.
04:52I'm not going to throw that away.
04:54You never know when that could come useful.
04:56It's a chance for former fashion designer Sasha to get creative.
05:03I'm doing glass panels for the door.
05:06I have to paint them from behind.
05:09I do tracings of my paintings.
05:13So I've taken drawings and I've photocopied them.
05:18Just printed them out black and white so that I can have a symmetry of design over the whole thing.
05:26I'll be painting separately, joining up the swirls so they look as though they go through the hole of the
05:35window.
05:36So I'll be painting on the wood as well as the glass.
05:40I think I've bitten off more than I can chew as usual.
05:44As usual.
05:46But it's going to be interesting.
05:58The old putty has been removed and Tim is ready to fix it all back together.
06:06Okay.
06:08That's all done.
06:16Oh, look at that.
06:18Fits like a doll.
06:19Look at that.
06:20Wow.
06:21That fits perfectly.
06:22This is my 10 euro bargain.
06:26Fab, isn't it?
06:28Could you hold it there so I can stand back and have a look at it?
06:30Okay.
06:31That works, doesn't it?
06:33Don't you think?
06:33I think it's excellent.
06:35And with your artistry on the glass, I think it's going to look so good.
06:39Okay.
06:39Well, I better get back to the painting then.
06:41See you later.
06:42Darling.
06:45Hello.
06:46Hello.
06:46Goodbye.
06:47Oh, dear me.
06:48Bye.
06:49The reclaimed door has been made fit for purpose.
06:53But Sasha's intricate designs for the glass are still very much a work in progress.
07:06Nestling in the picturesque countryside of southwest France lies the stunning Chateau d'Aron.
07:15Inside, the 19th century property boasts 17 rooms, including four grands salons.
07:25While outside, there is a swimming pool and several outbuildings within its four acres.
07:35It's home to globetrotters Carlton, a fund manager, and wife Alicia, who bought the property in 2023 for £690,000,
07:47and live here with their three children, Tiago, Vigo and Saskia.
07:55We've lived in, I think, we're up to nine countries together.
08:00That's why, yeah.
08:02Oh!
08:03Useless!
08:04So, we've lived in Africa.
08:06We've lived in Asia.
08:08We've obviously lived in Europe.
08:09We've lived in the...
08:10Yeah, in the South Pacific.
08:12This...
08:13It was perfect.
08:13It ticked so many boxes.
08:16When you come in from the gate, you sort of...
08:19The driveway sweeps round, and then suddenly the house is there in front of you.
08:24And it's pretty spectacular, especially when the sun's shining.
08:28It's...it's quite wonderful.
08:29It's quite magical.
08:30It will be spectacular when we finish.
08:31LAUGHTER
08:39Located in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Carlton and Alicia are due to rent the whole chateau out for their first
08:49wedding in a few weeks' time.
08:53Today, their mission is to clear a huge barn for the wedding breakfast.
08:59First wedding, it's going to be a bit of a challenge.
09:03We don't want it looking like a barn barn.
09:05No.
09:05We want to look at it like an attractive barn.
09:08Very attractive barn.
09:09So, let's see how we're going to do that.
09:10I'm not sure.
09:12As well as having to clear out the working barn, there are two huge doors to restore, fit for the
09:20newlyweds to walk through.
09:22Can you take them both?
09:23This one, this piece.
09:25And it's going to be a family affair.
09:28Off you go.
09:29I'm not going to ask.
09:33Wait, Dad, do I sign you or that?
09:35You decide.
09:36OK.
09:37Your door.
09:40Nice, yeah.
09:41That's it.
09:44Perfect.
09:45Can you manage?
09:46Why don't we just take both of them at the same time?
09:52When we buy these big old places, the people who own these places, they can never take the stuff with
09:59them.
10:00You end up inheriting everything that they don't want.
10:05With the whole family helping, the barn is beginning to clear.
10:11We're going to basically put the wood all on that side.
10:13This is going to be partitioned anyway for the wedding.
10:16So, you won't see from that side backwards.
10:21And Alicia has plans to make it look fit for purpose.
10:26To hide those walls and to make it prettier, I'm ordering curtains.
10:32So Carlton will put a wire all the way around and basically it will all be curtained.
10:37It will all be ruffled.
10:39Hopefully it will make it look a little bit more festive than it looks right now.
10:44I guess I'm the typical male.
10:46I have a kind of an idea, but then can I execute it? No.
10:52So she brings the detail to the execution.
10:59The biggest thing about here was that we needed a place that could be a home and a business at
11:04the same time.
11:05My job is in front of a computer for the most part.
11:08When you're here, you can actually start something.
11:11At the end of the day, you can say,
11:12Oh, I've got that far.
11:14Which you don't get when you're working on the big projects.
11:17So, it's quite kind of de-stressing.
11:21And it kind of gives you that gratification.
11:30Good progress.
11:32Barn is looking much cleaner.
11:34There's still a few things to do, but we're getting there.
11:37Yeah.
11:37Kids have helped, which is great.
11:40Everybody's...
11:40They haven't argued.
11:41Nope, nope.
11:41Which is even better.
11:43That's pretty cool.
11:44Lots of things moved upstairs.
11:47So, yeah.
11:47Item number 16 and 19 on our list of 40.
11:50Yes.
11:52The vision for their wedding barn is becoming a little clearer,
11:56but there's still huge doors to paint and jobs to tackle inside the chateau
12:02before it's anywhere near bride-perfect.
12:11Coming up...
12:14One chateau owner has big dreams for his junk room.
12:18This will be a nice little part of the wine cave experience.
12:22A little bit of je ne sais quoi, as we say in England.
12:26And the pressure's on for Carlton.
12:29He's not going to win prizes, but once the second coat's on,
12:33the bride can walk through.
12:35To be wedding ready in time.
12:45In the stunning Dordogne region of southwest France sits the magnificent 14th century Domaine de la Barde.
12:55Once a luxury hotel, it has 18 charming rooms, and within its 10 acres sit several outbuildings and a sumptuous
13:08swimming pool.
13:11Today, it's the home of Chef Tim, his wife Chris, and their two sons, Owen and Ollie.
13:21I don't think you can ever finish a chateau because I think the scale of it, everything is bigger,
13:25so you constantly have to upgrade and update, and even if you think you've nailed it and everything's done,
13:32wear and tear, you have to start again.
13:34There's really no end to that. I mean, it's a constant life of passion for the property.
13:41And it's a lifetime project, basically, and we enjoy it.
13:46Located 100 miles east of Bordeaux, the chateau lay abandoned until Tim and Chris bought it in 2020.
13:56And they've worked hard to bring it back to life.
14:00From the stunning formal gardens to creating 12 guest suites and running food and wine workshops.
14:13Tim's past projects include designing and building a huge bespoke barbecue.
14:20If you were to try and buy this barbecue, I don't think any amount of money could get this. Priceless.
14:27Perfect for a spot of al fresco wining and dining with the family.
14:33Cheers.
14:35Yay!
14:40Today, Tim has had a corking idea.
14:43One thing every chateau needs is a wine cellar.
14:47We don't have a basement, but luckily enough, around the back of the chateau in the old corridors that were
14:52part of the service areas,
14:53we do have what was the cave for the hotel when it was a restaurant, and it's ambient, it's stone,
15:00it stays really cool.
15:02So my plans are to clear the whole thing out, clean it all up, and then I want to try
15:07and build my own kind of cabinet so that you walk in and it feels like a proper piece of
15:12furniture.
15:13Even though it's currently a dumping ground, Tim can envisage good times ahead for his cookery and wine students.
15:21I want to use this as kind of a tasting room, and I think I can have a nice barrel,
15:26stools around, glasses hung up.
15:28This will be a nice little part of the wine cave experience, so I'd like to give it a bit
15:34of a wow factor, judge it up a bit, a little bit of je ne sais quoi, as we say
15:39in England.
15:44So this is the wine cellar, they just kept their wine in here, um, Mouton Cadet, all lovely stuff, lovely
15:53stuff.
15:54So getting these wine racks out is probably my first job.
16:22The back corridors here tend to get, um, a bit neglected and we throw everything in.
16:27But it would be wonderful to give this purpose again.
16:37From that corner all the way around, it'll be display, shelving, lovely, different wines.
16:46I will probably, uh, spend a lot of time in my tool shop and then I can run straight through
16:52to the wine cellar,
16:53pour myself a glass of wine after work, living the dream.
16:58Tim will have to dream on for now.
17:02Turning these bland back rooms into an opulent wine cellar is still a work in progress.
17:17Four hours south at Chateau du Puyet-Prin.
17:21It's so exciting doing things like this, you know?
17:25It's been three weeks since Sasha started reverse painting her grapevine design for their courtyard window.
17:34At the moment we have these, um, grapes here, which are painted in oil paints.
17:40Um, but I am silvering them from the back.
17:46It's wonderful and it's painting in layers.
17:50Food for the soul.
17:57Next, Tim wants to make a backing for the frame.
18:01I've had to come up with an idea.
18:03So, we've got a couple of old signboards that used to sit outside our place and they are printed onto
18:12aluminium.
18:13So, I've cut this to size and given it a bit of a polish, enough to just create a little
18:21bit of reflection.
18:23So, um, with spacer bars it's going to be sitting about that distance off the surface.
18:32It's becoming a much bigger project than we imagined.
18:35A little show of its own, which is quite fun for us to work on.
18:42Sasha's masterpiece has undergone another layer.
18:45This time with gold leaf and green glass ink.
18:49This isn't solid, you can see through it.
18:53The paint glints through behind the other layers that have gone in front.
19:00Tim gets very frustrated with me, um, because I don't really write things down beforehand.
19:09He's, he's completely the opposite.
19:11You know, he, he'll plan it all and measure it all out.
19:15I don't measure anything.
19:28I love making things and, um, making things work, mechanical or otherwise.
19:35It's, it's just keeps, keeps me awake at night sometimes.
19:40But it's fun. I enjoy it.
19:42I do have a need to, to, to work, to, to create.
19:48And luckily, I've got Tim so that we can take on big projects like this and know that it's all
19:58going to come together and look beautiful.
20:02With six intricate layered panels to complete, Tim and Sasha's passion project for their courtyard still hangs in the balance.
20:18Traveling three hours westward to Carlton and Alicia's, the couple are preparing to hire out the whole chateau for their
20:27first wedding and have cleared a huge barn where the wedding breakfast will be served.
20:34Now, it's time to tackle some jobs inside the chateau.
20:39Today, we're going to work on the tower en suite.
20:42It needs a new toilet.
20:44It does.
20:44Which is going to be done by you.
20:46Yeah.
20:47And also the tiles need an update.
20:50My tiling experience has been in square or rectangular rooms.
20:55So this is a sort of a hexagonal room.
20:59So there's going to be a lot of tile cutting.
21:03Day two of the barn.
21:04We've got some painting of the barn doors.
21:07And I think that's going to keep us busy for most of the day.
21:10Yeah.
21:11That's a good amount.
21:14So we're going to turn this off now.
21:16In the tower guest bathroom, Carlton tackles his first dirty job of the day.
21:22I'm really looking forward to getting rid of this horrible plastic system.
21:28Horrid, horrid, horrid, horrid, horrid.
21:30We met, I was in Vietnam.
21:34I was working for an international kindergarten.
21:39And Carlton was working in the office building.
21:42And so I had seen him a couple of times and thought he was quite cute.
21:47And then one evening, he was sitting at the bar as I was walking past him.
21:53He turned and gazed at me and gave me this...
21:55Look.
21:56Deep look.
21:57It was the smolder.
22:01With those eyes and I sort of, my heart sort of skipped a beat.
22:0416 years later, I'm taking a toilet apart.
22:06Together.
22:08Romance never stops.
22:12There we are.
22:13That's the bit you don't want to see.
22:17With the toilet removed, Alicia can fire ahead.
22:23Professionals prefer not to tile on tiles.
22:26And I can understand why.
22:28And the reason we've done it is because these bathrooms are really cold.
22:34And so the more insulation we can get on the flooring underneath to keep the heat in, for us was
22:43the better option.
22:47It's quite tactile and it's quite therapeutic.
22:51It's, I'm a jigsaw puzzler and it gives me that same satisfaction of putting all the jigsaw pieces together.
23:06In the wedding barn, Carlton is moving on to his next job.
23:11Oh, look at that.
23:13OK.
23:14Giving one of their four metre square barn doors a first coat of paint.
23:20And once again, he has some helpers.
23:24Do not get paint on my hair.
23:26No promises.
23:29I've been named the tile queen because Carlton doesn't particularly like tiling.
23:35So if he calls me the tile queen, then I'm more excited to do it.
23:39I don't see it as a chore.
23:41I see it as a bit of fun.
23:46Saskia is now making her own fun, leaving Dad Carlton to finish the barn door.
23:54It's not going to win prizes.
23:58But once the second coat's on, it's going to look a darn sight more presentable.
24:03The bride can walk through.
24:06Or foreign.
24:10Good start.
24:12The first of the huge barn doors is beginning to look fit for purpose.
24:18But there's another one still to go.
24:21It's not just for the wedding.
24:23Obviously, these are phenomenal doors and they need, if we don't look after them, they are going to decay.
24:29So we're going to need to, we'll give it another sand back tomorrow, get rid of the last flaky bits.
24:37And then we'll get painting.
24:39Another two coats.
24:41And I think we're good to go.
24:43It's the start of a long journey for Carlton and Alicia in preparation for their first Chateau wedding.
24:57Still to come.
24:58It will break very easily.
25:00A nail biting time for Tim.
25:03Can you leave this to me?
25:05This is my baby to break.
25:07Oh, you dare.
25:09And Carlton's having a smashing time.
25:12No!
25:14Renovating their tower bathroom.
25:24In the Occitanie region in southern France.
25:28Sasha.
25:29Hi, sweetie.
25:30I've got the frame ready.
25:32Oh, my.
25:33For your glass.
25:34Tim is about to fit Sasha's delicate painted panels.
25:39It will break very easily.
25:41So I think it's better.
25:42No, I am going to pass it to you because I've been handling this glass for the last two weeks.
25:49Can you reassure me that there's no wet paint there?
25:54No, no wet paint.
25:55Look, this is very delicate, please.
25:58No, can you leave this to me?
26:00This is my baby to break.
26:02Oh, you dare.
26:05You're a nightmare.
26:06There.
26:08So here we go.
26:10This isn't going to be that easy, but I'm going to put the curved end in first.
26:16Just waiting for that crack.
26:18Please, you're making me nervous.
26:20There we go.
26:21That's gone in.
26:23There, that's gone in.
26:25It's like your own baby.
26:27It's like when it's so delicate.
26:31This glass is so fine.
26:33It's not like plate glass.
26:36You know, it's so thin.
26:39I wish you hadn't come up with this old thing.
26:43No.
26:45This has been a labour of love that has taken Sasha weeks to paint.
26:50That's got to go that way.
26:52Oh, no.
26:52I'm having to put a little more pressure than I would like.
26:56Oops.
26:57I can't, I can't watch.
26:59If you could just watch.
27:00Get out of the way, yes.
27:01No, no, it's just you and the shade of the light.
27:05Hopefully, this is the last attempt.
27:08We shall see.
27:10Yes.
27:12Success.
27:14I'm hoping that's going to be the more difficult one.
27:20An hour and a half later, and with four more panels fitted.
27:25Comme ça.
27:28There we go.
27:29That last piece is in.
27:31All fitting snugly.
27:33Sasha's pièce de résistance for the courtyard is finally in its frame.
27:39And hopefully...
27:41Look at that.
27:42None of the bits, none of the glass will fall out.
27:48Yay.
27:49I can't wait to see the polished aluminium behind.
27:54I'm quite proud of that.
27:56It's going to look beautiful.
27:58It's going to look wonderful.
27:59It's become quite a complicated work or project.
28:04And it's fun.
28:06It's looking good at the moment.
28:08It's looking beautiful.
28:09It's not looking good.
28:12The vision of their decorative window is becoming clearer, but they're not finished yet.
28:18Sasha still has the frame to decorate, and Tim has a bright idea to illuminate it to the max.
28:25This project is set to run and run.
28:35200 miles away in the Dordogne, Tim is designing bespoke cabinets for his new wine cellar.
28:43Nothing's square.
28:45Nothing's level.
28:46You know, they're old buildings.
28:47They're remarkable.
28:49But they can be this level and square for something 700 years old, but even so.
29:09with the buttons fixed in place he can start adding a little extra flavor.
29:17all the posts will have stop chamfers on and it just adds a bit of detail you know it won't
29:23be
29:23it won't be massively in your face but it will um it'll just make it look like a master craftsman
29:29has done it this cabinet might be for housing fine wines but tim's not missing the chance
29:42to recycle wood from around the chateau these are just garden fence posts shutter boards
29:50random bits of timber just sort of infill things like that and then i'll paint it all one color
29:57it will be very uniform and you'd never know hopefully
30:06still will be too
30:22now i can start basically just carcassing it out and making it into lots of nice chambers
30:44it'll trim up quite nicely i think
30:48first though it's time to see if his measurements stack up
31:03it's bad is it not bad at all
31:08nice header across the top i love a board in there i love
31:11a spotlight on each one that'll all be nice and neat at the bottom but um
31:17yeah i quite like that the wine racks are still a work in progress but tim's got high hopes it's
31:25all
31:25quite rough at the moment when it's finished and it's all painted up and it's full of delicious wine
31:30it will look the business the abandoned wine cellar is shaping up but there's still a long way to go
31:38before it will fully pass the taste test
31:47nearly four hours drive away at chateau d'arron
31:52alicia is making progress in the tower bathroom suite
31:56fingers crossed let's see
32:02the hexagon bathroom's irregular edges call for bespoke sized tiles which is where carlton comes in
32:12every room in this house is this building is irregular
32:15so now we've got to try to figure out how to uh how what we have to cut
32:20to try to kind of fit in around the edges but yeah it's just trial and error
32:31you think it's a small bathroom i'm gonna be done in no time and it actually takes
32:37quite a long time because it's more fiddly you haven't got
32:41the space to maneuver in let's see what happens
32:47carlton uses a more basic tool to start the tiles off
32:52god knows how old this cutter is but it works that's the important thing
32:56so we're just going to basically score it and put pressure on it and then in principle
33:03it breaks
33:04we'll find out
33:07all right
33:10no
33:12never mind we have more tiles
33:16right
33:17all right so then doesn't want to work could be too could be too could be too could be too
33:28thick
33:30aha voila
33:35just filling in these bits that he cut well earlier let's put this down
33:43there we go
33:46that's nice
33:50carlton heads back outside to the wedding barn to start work on the second huge door
33:57um
33:57looks great daddy
33:59thank you saskia
34:00i like having my cheerleader
34:02once this is done then we start experimenting on how to hang
34:07the drapes around the barns
34:10right sas are you going to finish the door off then
34:12perfect
34:15and then we finish one coat on this door haven't we
34:21alicia's room-sized jigsaw puzzle
34:23is almost complete
34:26these are the final three tiles for me
34:31once i've got this done then carlton's gonna come in and do the really finickety bits the
34:42edges underneath the vanities the sink and the corner pieces it's fun i like this journey i like
34:54challenging myself because when you've taught yourself you feel even more accomplished than when somebody's
35:00shown you the ropes
35:02we got a good amount of it done
35:05in and amongst the rest of the stuff
35:08so i'm really pleased
35:14tiling's that's good almost complete barn door one side finished one side still
35:20half done yeah first coat on that's good every one day job always ends up becoming a two-day job
35:26yes this is a reality it's all good fun it's all good fun it's relaxing actually
35:30relaxing
35:31yeah it is relaxing me it's relaxing
35:33okay interesting we'll get him doing more
35:36yes carlton and alicia have started to make the chateau wedding ready for the summer
35:43but with a bathroom still to decorate and a huge barn to make fit for a wedding breakfast
35:49this project is a long way from its happy ending
35:58coming up
35:59do i go further do i stop will tim's walls come tumbling down
36:06oh i'm just i'm just not sure about it
36:09are you ready ready and will tim and sasha's hard work be worth it
36:15a moment of truth don't go away
36:25in the dardogne at domain de la barde tim's plans to restore a wine cellar have fermented into something much
36:34more tasty
36:37i've decided i want to take the connecting door out the middle and i want to bring back the original
36:42natural
36:42features that are in the room uh it's 14th century you know there's a hell of a lot of age
36:48in there and i want to be able to see that again
36:51so i'll take the door off easy enough then i want to see if the frame will come out easily
36:57then i want to chip out the top and just put one of these strong boys in
37:02to take any weight uh hopefully i don't find that there's any metal in there
37:08if he discovers a lintel it could mean this is a supporting wall
37:21so
37:44yeah it looks better already
38:03so i've got that underneath now it just means i can chip out
38:17well we're at the point now where the prop is doing most of the work so
38:23this probably can come out
38:25it's definitely i definitely think it's a lintel i just
38:29don't know if it's been put in for
38:32for a purpose
38:37i'm just i'm just not sure about it
38:39it's very very hard to tell
38:47do i go further do i stop
38:49i think all i can do is just try and break it up break it up break it up break
38:52it up and when i get it loose i can try and pull it out
39:06a bit of brute force on the final chunk
39:14yeah i'm glad i took some of it out it weighs a time
39:22how far
39:23that was a lot more work than i expected
39:32yeah
39:33worth it yeah because when all this is chipped off and cleaned you know you've now got a beautiful
39:40stone doorway waiting to reveal itself to us it's worth the pain for me you know i i love all
39:47this i
39:48i absolutely love all this so bringing bringing this back to life is amazing for me tim won't be
39:57saying cheers in his wine cellar anytime soon but already its future is looking rosé
40:08in the occitani region at tim and sasha's some burnt umber having finished painting the six glass
40:16window panels sasha is weaving her magic on the frame so you just get a hint the green
40:24and the the pat the natural pattern will will shine out especially when we varnish it
40:39and tim's reflective backing for the window frame has been fixed into place all done that's secure
40:48not going anywhere this wire here is for an led strip that will be hidden from view
40:54but it will create a glow that will come through the glass that sasha's painted
41:01i think it's a shame just to cover it with with one color so what i'm doing here is just
41:08just tickling in very thin layers of oil color and letting it become part of the wood i want the
41:20history to shine through i don't want to cover up the history
41:28it's been a massive joint effort and sasha's vision for the decorative window is now complete with vines
41:36creeping over the framework too it's time to see it in place with a helping hand from luke
41:48it's happening we hope
41:54this is never coming up again tim what a result
41:58my other world was away it's looking great it looks like it's all coming together
42:07it's all coming up again tim connects the final touch of lighting to really make things glow
42:17are you ready ready the moment of truth
42:22two months ago this former stable window was blocked up with breeze blocks and half hidden by trees
42:30it's now it makes a striking and eye-catching backdrop to a neglected corner of the courtyard
42:39sasha's artistic talents shine out with her art nouveau style design echoing the history of
42:48winemaking at the chateau painted with a layering technique the vines creep from the glass to the window frame
42:57which tim lovingly created from a reclaimed wooden door artfully backlit the window makes a glowing feature
43:09and photo opportunity for future wedding couples
43:17okay here we go oh wow that looks great that's really good i'm so pleased it looks glorious
43:28it was one of those eureka moments so moments of um just finding the right thing for the right purpose
43:37and it just has been great fun to work on it and i'm i'm thrilled with it really thrilled with
43:44it and i
43:44and i think uh yeah i hope that our clients will be as well seriously though that that works quite
43:51well
43:51doesn't it it does it looks very nice does bring that corner to life lovely tim and sasha have a
43:59unique
43:59addition to enhance their courtyard but with the wedding season fast approaching they have a whole patio to retile
44:12next time tim and chris are at crisis point i'm really nervous because it's our first tour ever
44:21there's a demolition derby as a family we quite like constructing things not as much
44:27as much as we like breaking things hopefully that's going to work and a new couple have great
44:33expectations no pressure
