00:03Me encuentro con el actor Michael Kelly y el director Andrew Burstyn por el estreno de Jack Ryan, Ghost World.
00:09So, you leave the CIA, you get yourself a nice civilian job.
00:16Are you kidding me?
00:18It's good to see you.
00:18Andrew, you already directed episode in the series.
00:22How was this transition to a feature film format?
00:24It was very, it's a great question because it was sort of, in one way it was seamless because I
00:28know the cast
00:29and I know the material and I've sort of been part of the Jack Ryan franchise.
00:35But we were very, it was very important to us to make this its own standalone movie and sort of
00:40not necessarily distance ourselves from the series, but to make it feel like its own movie
00:44so we could bring in people who had never seen the series.
00:47So, I kind of looked at it that way.
00:49I looked at it as if I had never almost even done the Jack Ryan series.
00:52It was sort of attacking it as its own movie.
00:55How we shot it, you know, how it was directed, how the characters were.
01:00So, in that way it was like reinventing something in a way and in the same way sort of just
01:05knowing
01:06that that history was going to come with me no matter what I did.
01:10So, it was intimidating at times because, you know, we had a, there's a long canon of great
01:15Jack Ryan movies, but at the same time there was the comfort of having people like Michael
01:18who I knew and had worked with at my side.
01:30Michael, you're driving boats running through the streets of UK handling heavy artillery.
01:36Which of those activities do you enjoy the most?
01:42Lunch?
01:43Lunch.
01:45I do love the helicopters, but the boat was a lot of fun for me because I had not been
01:53behind
01:54the wheel of a boat since I was a teenager probably.
01:56So, to go and have to practice for a few days there in the marina and get to practice that
02:03run up and then actually pull it off, it was fun.
02:06Michael was amazing.
02:07I do have to say, it was not easy.
02:10I mean, when you're bringing a boat and there's a huge crew right in front of you with all these
02:15cameras and you have to hit a mark, you know, and Michael didn't have a lot of rehearsal
02:18for this at all.
02:19I mean, I think he went out just for a little bit.
02:21So, he really nailed it and there was a little people, a few people behind the camera going,
02:26are we really going to let him do this?
02:28Are we really going to let him do this?
02:29And he nailed it.
02:30So, yeah.
02:32Let's shut it down.
02:36The Starling has been resurrected.
02:38They are intelligent.
02:41They are dangerous.
02:42In this movie, Jack and his team are confronted with difficult decisions and sacrifice.
02:48From your perspective, what does Lion Crow bring to the saga that we haven't seen before?
02:54I think part of it is sort of the, you know, Jack's real moral dilemma.
03:00You know, we've always seen Jack Ryan as sort of, you know, black and white.
03:05Like, he had a very strong sort of feeling about what was right and what was wrong and
03:08he fought for that.
03:09And really in this movie, and one of the things we love about it thematically, is that he's
03:12really now forced to deal with the gray area of the movie, which Greer brings to him based
03:18on Greer's past.
03:19And so, I think for us, it was sort of a real opportunity to sort of really explore something
03:24in Jack Ryan's character that no one had ever really seen in the series before.
03:28That he was really struggling with what it means to be in this world now.
03:32You know, not everything is a black and white.
03:34You know, I don't, and now he doesn't have the answers to everything.
03:37And watching a character sort of struggle with that was super exciting for us.
03:41And then to sort of bring someone like, you know, Sienna Miller into the fold, who sort
03:45of adds another layer of complexity to his character, again, was a new opportunity that
03:51we thought was super cool.
03:52So, I think the audience is really going to see some really new stuff they've never seen
03:55in the series before in terms of character development.
03:58They'll do exactly what we trained them to do.
04:05This movie brings irreversible changes to Jack's story and his team.
04:10We will see them again in a series format or in a future film.
04:15I hope so.
04:16I really, really, really hope so.
04:18Look, we all have, we all have so much fun making this.
04:24These are some of my, and I really mean this, these are truly some of my best friends in real
04:28life and Sienna, like I said, slid right in with us and became that family unit as well.
04:35So, anytime you're given a chance to work with family and dear friends, you jump right
04:40at it.
04:40So, I, you know, I jokingly say to John all the time, one more.
04:44And my response is always, can't we just finish this one and get it out to everybody and have
04:52them really enjoy this amazing movie we made and then we'll see what the future holds.
04:58Maybe it's you.
