00:02What's going on in the United States today is a very dangerous time.
00:07No! No!
00:10**** me!
00:14They're gathering people in the workplace who have no criminal record, have not done anything illegal.
00:19They're picking up everybody off the street indiscriminately.
00:22He's a citizen! Stop!
00:23The administration has been attacking science, removing climate change from many federal websites.
00:28Books are being pulled from the education system.
00:32We're returning to a dark ages of anti-science, anti-women's rights, anti-equality.
00:37I never thought I'd see a day like this, but we're here.
00:40That element of fear of violence is in the air.
00:44January 6th was an absolute nightmare to see Americans attacking police officers and people died.
00:50They're out to get us. And whatever they would have done to us, we wouldn't have been able to certify
00:56the election.
00:56And America would have woken up to total chaos.
01:01Somewhere along the line here, we lost our humanity.
01:06How quickly is it possible that we will not have a vote?
01:11The authoritarian fascist nature of this regime is real.
01:15And we don't know exactly where this ends and how bad it gets.
01:22I was in South Africa.
01:23And a black guy steps off the curb.
01:25And a cab driver swerved to hit him.
01:28For sport.
01:30I couldn't quite believe I'd just seen that.
01:33At that moment, I went from artist to activist.
01:36My great-great-grandparent was self-liberated from enslavement.
01:40It was just simply in our blood to do something.
01:44Everybody who asks themselves, what can I do, will come up with an answer that's appropriate.
01:49The hardest thing about standing alone and saying the tough thing is the very first time we do it.
01:55The fact that we have an eight-hour workday, the fact that women can vote, the fact that apartheid ended
02:00happened because people no different from anyone watching this stood up in their place in time.
02:06You have one party in which rules don't matter, the constitution doesn't matter.
02:11What matters is perpetuating power for those with power.
02:17There are millions of people who have been inspired to do something.
02:21And my work as part of a rallying cry can help address things I thought were unjust in the world.
02:29We need people voting, people marching, people organizing.
02:33We're in the fight of our lives right now to defend American democracy.
02:41We're real different people, but daggone it, I'm proud of this country and we're going to work together to make
02:45it better.
02:45America needs a redemption narrative and I believe it's still possible.
02:51Millions of people before us fought worse conditions against greater odds and they prevail.
02:56We can do the same thing.
02:58The best things in the history of the human race have come from people who believe it's possible to do
03:06better.
03:09We've been traveling on the Can-and-Rown.
03:12We've been traveling on the Can-and-Rown
03:12We're traveling on the Can-and-Rown.
03:13We've been traveling on the ravo vaccine.
03:14For all the Can-and-Rown
03:15You
