00:00:42The End
00:01:01The End
00:01:43You're the fellow who's waiting for us to open up this morning, aren't you?
00:01:45That's right.
00:01:47And I guess you know what you want.
00:01:49Yes, I've been thinking about it.
00:01:53All night, eh?
00:01:55Yes.
00:01:57Excellent education.
00:01:59Good background.
00:02:01Wouldn't you rather consider something in which you...
00:02:03I told you what I want.
00:02:06Parachute service.
00:02:08All right.
00:02:14Oh, I'm sorry.
00:02:16You've had a few drinks, haven't you?
00:02:18It's legal, isn't it?
00:02:20Not in the Army, it isn't.
00:02:21And we don't take drunks.
00:02:23Listen, I'm not drunk.
00:02:25I...
00:02:25I tell you, I know what I'm doing.
00:02:27I'm all right.
00:02:27Your physical checkup, it'll determine that.
00:02:30We'll see.
00:02:31Come on.
00:02:35Good heavens, woman.
00:02:36Can I help it if you like in that way?
00:02:38That goes for you, too.
00:02:40Now, stop that bawling and get to the point.
00:02:41How much do you want?
00:02:43You say you don't want anything?
00:02:47Oh, nothing but Donald, eh?
00:02:49Well, if you want my son, you still don't want anything.
00:02:53Well, that's your hard luck.
00:02:54I'm not his nurse.
00:02:55Yeah, I hope you both sue him, because I'll tell you what I'm going to do.
00:02:58I'm going to freeze his trust funds.
00:03:01That's a pretty good picture of me, don't you think?
00:03:09Yeah.
00:03:12You've made a couple of passes too many.
00:03:14I'm cutting you off with a thin dime.
00:03:16Well, it isn't money they want, Dad.
00:03:18I can't figure out what it is about me.
00:03:20Abnormal muscles or merely a fine mind.
00:03:23Oh, yeah?
00:03:24Well, you've got yourself engaged to two women.
00:03:27Turn your fine mind loose on that.
00:03:29I did.
00:03:30Privates in the Army can't get married.
00:03:32At least that's what the recruiting sergeant told me.
00:03:34Recruiting sergeant?
00:03:35Yeah.
00:03:44Maybe I'll be proud of you, you, you, you all-American half-wit.
00:03:47That's right.
00:03:48I'm just a chip off the old blood.
00:03:49Go on, Dad.
00:03:50So long, son.
00:03:56Where'd you get this crazy hankering of jumping out of airships with a bumbershoot strapped to your back?
00:04:01Yeah.
00:04:02Well, Maul Pruncy Cullens, she talked me into.
00:04:05So, that's it.
00:04:06Can't you see them female Cullensers was trying to get your neck broke?
00:04:09Yeah.
00:04:11Well, I thought Pruncy kind of liked me.
00:04:13Ain't possible.
00:04:14Us horses were shooting at them Cullensers the day you was born.
00:04:17Yeah, and I chased their honorary menfolk clean back to Georgia.
00:04:21Georgia?
00:04:21Yeah, and I'd have chased their womenfolk, too.
00:04:24But it ain't be proper into Hollins.
00:04:25Georgia, that's where they sent them me, Pa.
00:04:28Yeah?
00:04:30Maybe it's a fulfillment.
00:04:32I'd forgive you right kindly, Jeff, if you potted me your Cullens down there.
00:04:36Like they done to your grandpappy.
00:04:38Yeah.
00:04:41I'll do it.
00:04:42I'll bloodhound them to kingdom come.
00:04:45I'll sniff them out, Pa.
00:04:46I'll choose the first Georgia Cullens I meet, and I'll chaw him to pieces.
00:04:50Yeah.
00:04:50He ain't too big.
00:04:52Come on.
00:05:24Come on.
00:05:26Did you lose something?
00:05:28No, I still have my heart.
00:05:31Say, that must be a party.
00:05:36He's a pretty big boy to be running around barefooted, isn't he?
00:05:42I know why he kicks them off, they pinch his feet.
00:05:45Oh, hello.
00:05:47May I have my feet, please?
00:05:50Oh, pardon me.
00:05:52I'm so sorry.
00:05:54I was looking for the owner of this shoe.
00:05:56It does belong to your husband, so I, uh...
00:05:59That is your husband, I presume.
00:06:01That's right.
00:06:02Oh.
00:06:02You do presume.
00:06:04Oh.
00:06:05That's my father.
00:06:06Oh.
00:06:08Well, in that case, we can speak freely.
00:06:11Ow!
00:06:12What's going on here?
00:06:13You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
00:06:14After all, he's a nice old man.
00:06:16Me?
00:06:17What did you call me?
00:06:19Daddy, your temper.
00:06:21Somebody says something nice to you, and right away you fly off the handle.
00:06:24He, he called me an old man.
00:06:26He's not so old.
00:06:27May I offer the humble observation that any gentleman who could father such a child is ageless.
00:06:32Huh?
00:06:33Now, Daddy, the boys are really trying to be very nice.
00:06:36All right.
00:06:39All right.
00:06:40All right.
00:06:40They're trying.
00:06:42All right.
00:06:45All right.
00:07:04Peaceful again.
00:07:05Peace is a wonderful thing.
00:07:07Isn't it, Daddy?
00:07:08That is.
00:07:09Hey, easy, will you?
00:07:10Of all the infernal pests.
00:07:12So help me, I'm gonna renovate this car.
00:07:15Now, relax.
00:07:15I'm awful sorry.
00:07:16Excuse us, ma'am.
00:07:17We are but simple-hearted soldiers.
00:07:19More accustomed to the smoke of battle than the parlor ways.
00:07:22Oh, isn't that nice, Daddy?
00:07:25Soldiers.
00:07:28Soldiers?
00:07:28Uh-huh.
00:07:29Yeah.
00:07:29Yeah.
00:07:30Is that so?
00:07:32Yeah.
00:07:34You boys, uh, going to Fort Benning?
00:07:37That's right.
00:07:38Sure.
00:07:38Uh, my name's Bill Burke.
00:07:40At your service all the way.
00:07:42Bill what, son?
00:07:43William Mayberry Burke.
00:07:47So now, won't you?
00:07:48Yeah, sure.
00:07:51Well, we're the Richards family, the whole shebang.
00:07:55We're on our way to Columbus, Georgia.
00:07:57Well, charmed to meet up with you.
00:07:59I'm Don Morse.
00:08:00The All-American?
00:08:02Yeah, I thought that would strike a reminiscent chord.
00:08:04And you?
00:08:05I'm just Jeff Hollis.
00:08:08Well, the soldiers sure do interest me.
00:08:12Might I ask, uh, what branch of soldier in your end?
00:08:16Well, indeed you might.
00:08:17I'm hooked up with the infantry's new babies, the parachute boys.
00:08:20Me too.
00:08:21Now, is that so new?
00:08:23Seems to me I read somewheres where that idea was invented way back in the last war.
00:08:28Well, of course, I don't read the papers.
00:08:31I'm only a service man myself.
00:08:33Since when, Sonny?
00:08:35Oh, well, quite a spell.
00:08:38ROTC in college.
00:08:39I might even be commissioned someday.
00:08:41Second lieutenant, reserve.
00:08:42Isn't he interesting?
00:08:44He's plum fascinating.
00:08:46I think I know what's so heavy, 180 pounds of ego.
00:08:50Excuse me.
00:08:51I've been wondering.
00:08:53That's a caterpillar, isn't it?
00:08:54Yeah, that's a caterpillar.
00:08:56Look, I'll be down in Columbus now and then.
00:08:58What nights does Daddy go to lodge meetings?
00:09:00Well, that isn't exactly a lodge pin.
00:09:02Well, all right.
00:09:03Tractor salesman's Local 23.
00:09:05I mean, you're in the phone book.
00:09:06I'll get in touch with you.
00:09:08I've got a better idea than that, Sonny.
00:09:10Yeah?
00:09:11What's that?
00:09:12I'll get in touch with you.
00:09:31Company B.
00:09:35Horse.
00:09:38Burst.
00:09:39Spence.
00:09:41Hollis.
00:09:44Company C.
00:09:56Hi. Hi.
00:09:58Lieutenant.
00:10:04Fourteen.
00:10:05Fourteen?
00:10:08Fourteen.
00:10:10Fourteen.
00:10:13In here, men.
00:10:23All right, men. Choose your own bunks.
00:10:25Teacher, are you playing football?
00:10:26You betcha.
00:10:27Let's take them out. They're heading for the best bunks.
00:10:34Nice going.
00:10:38Sorry.
00:10:41I got a notion to hang a penalty on you, fella.
00:10:48All right, if that's the way you feel about it.
00:10:57Didn't hurt yourself, did you?
00:10:58Not a scratch.
00:10:59Too bad.
00:11:01You do all right with a little bit of interference.
00:11:03Is that how you made all American?
00:11:05Yeah, that's how I accomplished a lot of little things.
00:11:07Why?
00:11:09Remind me to have that upholstered.
00:11:13Sir, Master Sergeant Richard Dercal reporting for duty.
00:11:16Oh.
00:11:17Send him in.
00:11:18Yes, sir.
00:11:19Come in, Sergeant.
00:11:29Oh, Thunderhead.
00:11:31Take the ramrod out of your back and sit down.
00:11:33Thank you, sir.
00:11:36Tell me, Richard.
00:11:37Do you still hate the infantry?
00:11:39Well, naturally, sir.
00:11:41I...
00:11:41still hate everything at foot.
00:11:43With the possible exception of Kip.
00:11:46Oh, I...
00:11:46I ain't mad at her anymore.
00:11:49I sure wasn't.
00:11:50I was a nice man.
00:11:50She was born for being so effeminate.
00:11:52And I actually believe you hated me for being lucky enough to have a son.
00:11:57That's why I named him after you.
00:11:59William Mayberry Burton.
00:12:03You know, I nearly took that pill away from him.
00:12:06When his mother hung that Mayberry on him.
00:12:10Yes, she never cared much for you.
00:12:13No.
00:12:15If there anything else, it smelled like a soldier.
00:12:19I've been wondering just what kind of a guy she made out of him.
00:12:25Yeah.
00:12:26I wondered more than you have.
00:12:29Look over your battalion, you may find out.
00:12:33He's here?
00:12:35Well, why the devil wasn't he sent to me?
00:12:37Now you know about him.
00:12:38Now take it easy, Colonel.
00:12:40Don't start mollycoddling him.
00:12:43You may spoil a good soldier.
00:12:44Oh.
00:12:46Sometimes I don't know why I put up with you.
00:12:49I want to see that boy of mine right away.
00:12:51Do you understand?
00:12:53Yes, sir.
00:12:59Well?
00:13:04Just that I was wondering if he'd realize that a Colonel's son wears the same size hat
00:13:09man as his buddies.
00:13:11Well, he's got to learn, of course, if there's very little sentiment in the Army.
00:13:14And let him take his turn.
00:13:17Treat him like any other private.
00:13:20He's got the feeling he's old seat, blow the morale to smithereens.
00:13:26Well, maybe you're right.
00:13:27But this is all new to him.
00:13:29Somebody has got to look after him.
00:13:31I'm the one to do that, sir.
00:13:33Let him cool his heels for a while.
00:13:35I'll bring him to you.
00:13:38All right.
00:13:39Your judgment is usually good.
00:13:41I'm going to let you have your own way, for once.
00:13:56Hey.
00:13:57Hey.
00:13:58Wake up, Lieutenant.
00:13:59Yeah.
00:13:59Here I go, sir.
00:14:10How long have you been up?
00:14:11Just since milking time.
00:14:18Platoon, halt!
00:14:21Drive, bait!
00:14:24First.
00:14:27Hey, Don.
00:14:28Look.
00:14:33Old man Caterpillar.
00:14:35Seems kind of important around here.
00:14:38Yeah.
00:14:39I wonder...
00:14:41I wonder what kind of impression I made on him.
00:14:43Well, he said he'd get in touch with you.
00:14:45Hurry up.
00:14:50Hey!
00:14:51Hey!
00:14:51Hey!
00:14:51Hey!
00:14:52Hey!
00:15:17Here, sir.
00:15:18Here, here.
00:15:18Good.
00:15:19Morris, you've been chosen to lead these men in a highly important service.
00:15:22Hello, Captain.
00:15:22Thank you, Sergeant. I was second lieutenant, ROTC.
00:15:26Yes. That's why you're gonna take charge of this detail.
00:15:29Have them report to the sports field in fatigue uniform.
00:15:32Yes, sir.
00:15:34Boy, does he like me.
00:15:36I never saw so many athletes in one squad.
00:15:38Does horseshoe pitching count?
00:15:41No, you guys are just wasting the Army's time.
00:15:43You don't get these quick promotions for athlete's foot.
00:15:46Company, fall in!
00:15:48Oh, come on, fellas, fall in.
00:15:55Right! Face!
00:15:58Forward!
00:16:00Harch!
00:16:01Hut!
00:16:02Hoo!
00:16:05Detail!
00:16:07Hold!
00:16:09Right! Face!
00:16:11This service is not only patriotic, but it's very necessary.
00:16:17About! Face!
00:16:18Fall out and start digging.
00:16:24Necessary?
00:16:25To the plumbing.
00:16:27Get going.
00:16:28Yes, sir.
00:16:41Looks like everybody's in high gear but us.
00:16:45Hiya, worms!
00:16:49You know, they throw you out of the parachute core if you get overweight.
00:16:53Maybe they're doing this for a waistline.
00:17:00Now, this is certainly destroying a lot of my dreams.
00:17:04Well, they've recognized it, Sergeant.
00:17:07Now, don't let them lie on it.
00:17:09Get busy there.
00:17:13Hey, Sergeant.
00:17:14Do you mind if I ask you just one little question?
00:17:17Why, certainly.
00:17:18What did he ever do to rate?
00:17:20What did the old Thunderhead ever do?
00:17:22Yeah.
00:17:23Tonight, you're gonna find out what he did.
00:17:26Years ago, when parachutes were an unknown quantity, the man had the courage to prove their
00:17:31great possibilities.
00:17:32In these pictures made by the United States Army long ago, you will see him execute one
00:17:37of the first dangerous tests in parachute history, a pull-off from the wing of a ship.
00:17:43Here you see the same thing in slow motion.
00:17:54Then, as the mechanics of parachute-making progressed, he accomplished the first free jump, opening
00:18:01his chute with a ripcord to prove its value in fire and emergency.
00:18:05But there remained a false belief that a man falling over 500 feet would die from the speed
00:18:11of descent.
00:18:11It was to disprove this fallacy that he made the first delayed drop, falling through space
00:18:191,500 feet, attaining a maximum speed of 118 miles per hour at 1,200 feet.
00:18:34To him, too, goes the credit for advocating and demonstrating the first mass jump in the
00:18:42history of the United States Army, or any other army.
00:18:56Now that you've seen these pictures of one of our greatest living heroes, I want you to meet him.
00:19:02Master Sergeant Richards.
00:19:06He will be your chief instructor in parachute training.
00:19:09In addition to Sergeant Richards' various decorations, he's a several-time member of the Caterpillar Club,
00:19:15a distinction awarded only to those who have saved their lives through an emergency parachute jump.
00:19:19However, you will see no insignia of officer's rank on this man's shoulders.
00:19:25And in that lies an important point.
00:19:27Once he was slated for promotion, but when it didn't come, his loyalty never wavered, and it never has since.
00:19:34And that's the spirit I wanted you men to get acquainted with tonight, by knowing this man,
00:19:40who has long forgotten about everything but the importance of being a good soldier.
00:19:49Hip!
00:19:50Lachey!
00:19:50Here, sir.
00:19:51Hollis?
00:19:51Here.
00:19:52Cullen?
00:19:53Here.
00:19:53Putnam?
00:19:54Here.
00:19:55Cullen?
00:19:56Rook?
00:19:56Here.
00:19:57No, Collins.
00:19:58Brown?
00:19:58Here.
00:19:59Hollis, you're still at attention.
00:20:06Let's go here!
00:20:06Here.
00:20:15Here.
00:20:16and My.
00:20:34We are looking
00:20:34at the
00:20:55Since you're gonna jump these parachutes while you're in the battalion, it's important
00:20:59for you to understand their operation.
00:21:01Your outfit consists of a main chute and also a reserve chute for emergency purposes only.
00:21:10This is known as your static line.
00:21:13This end of your static line is hooked onto a cable in the ship.
00:21:16The other end is attached to the cover surrounding your main chute.
00:21:21When you jump clear of the airplane, your weight coming upon the static line rips the threads
00:21:27loose from your pack cover and pulls your parachute into the air.
00:21:31All right, O'Shea.
00:21:33Like this.
00:21:43Now men, you've seen how they open.
00:21:46But the most important thing in your lives is to learn how to put them together.
00:21:51Report to your tables.
00:21:54Now the first thing you must learn is how to lay out your chute for packing.
00:21:57Stand clear.
00:22:01With all these lines, it's a simple matter to get tangled before you start.
00:22:06Make each fold of the panels neat.
00:22:09Keep a clear, clean fold of the silk at the skirt.
00:22:12Those shot bags will hold the silk in place as you continue your folds.
00:22:17Folding iron ensures even lengths of the folds.
00:22:21Don't get any twists in the lines while you're sewing.
00:22:24Your final operation is sewing the cover to your pack.
00:22:29All right, some of you boys are going to get your first look at the parachute jump.
00:22:32How's it feel, Sarge?
00:22:34You get that old elevator feeling?
00:22:35No, the worst of it is standing in the door waiting to jump.
00:22:57She's not going to open.
00:23:07Take it easy, take it easy.
00:23:08Don't eat Bessie our dummy.
00:23:11A dummy?
00:23:12Dummy, that's right.
00:23:14Come on, I'll show you.
00:23:20Pick her up, Morris.
00:23:25Boys, this is Bessie.
00:23:28Now this little lady takes these beatings to impress on you men
00:23:31the importance of packing your chutes carefully.
00:23:34Woo-woo.
00:23:37Was that you, Morris?
00:23:40Hmm?
00:23:41Morris, I don't believe I like your attitude toward Bessie.
00:23:44If I ever catch you woo-woo in any of my women, folks,
00:23:48you'll feel like you've been through a world war.
00:23:51Go ahead, Sergeant.
00:23:52You see, Bessie is beautiful, but dumb.
00:23:55She plump forgot she had an emergency chute on.
00:23:57Now you see this ripcord?
00:23:59Well, when her main chute didn't work,
00:24:02this is all she had to do.
00:24:04That's right.
00:24:05And remember, first and always,
00:24:07you probably never need to pull that ripcord
00:24:09if you pack your main chutes carefully.
00:24:12It's your best life insurance.
00:24:16And a sloppily packed chute is your surest way to suicide.
00:24:21For example, it was your chute, Burke,
00:24:25packed by you that failed open up there.
00:24:32Did you hear the good news?
00:24:34One of the office boys slipped me Kit's home address.
00:24:36You mean old Fronderhead's home address.
00:24:38Yeah.
00:24:38He promised to belt me if I woo-wooed around.
00:24:41What are you going to do?
00:24:42Woo-woo.
00:24:43Say, how about you coming along and acting as decoy?
00:24:45No, I got a date with some library books.
00:24:47Gonna learn a few things about the army I never knew before.
00:24:50You need it.
00:24:51You were a bright yellow when the Sarge told you
00:24:53about your chute.
00:24:56What'd you say?
00:24:57You heard me.
00:25:00Boys, boys, boys, mustn't, mustn't.
00:25:05I thought you said mustn't.
00:25:07I wanted to do it.
00:25:09Jigger's the Sarge.
00:25:14And the father bear says who's been sitting in my chair?
00:25:19Why, he's asleep.
00:25:20Yeah, he was tired.
00:25:21Fighting, eh?
00:25:24Fighting, Sarge?
00:25:25Somebody's going to lose this weekend pass.
00:25:27Oh, Sarge.
00:25:28I've got an important date in town this weekend.
00:25:30It was me, Sarge.
00:25:31I've done it.
00:25:31I ain't sorry.
00:25:32No, if I saw a moss throw that punch,
00:25:34looks like I'll have to put him on kitchen police.
00:25:37That is, uh, this one of you might be willing
00:25:40to do me a little favor.
00:25:41Yeah, sure.
00:25:42Spill it.
00:25:43Come here.
00:25:47What can we do for you, Sarge?
00:25:49Well, doggone it.
00:25:51Taking a girl to a dance.
00:25:53I'd rather be shot sitting down
00:25:54than just make a fool of myself trying to dance.
00:25:56Dancing?
00:25:57Shh.
00:25:58Why, that's a cinch for one of these fellas.
00:26:00How about it, Jeff?
00:26:01Yeah, but not with a girl.
00:26:02Not me.
00:26:04Bill, you know who I want to see in town.
00:26:06I'd do the same for you.
00:26:08Well, I guess I'm stuck.
00:26:10Oh, I'll never forget you.
00:26:11Swear of you.
00:26:12Where do I find it?
00:26:13Uh, can you whistle?
00:26:14Whistle?
00:26:14Yeah, why?
00:26:15Well, when you go out the gate,
00:26:16just blow a few notes of Revely.
00:26:17And she'll honk a horn.
00:26:37Hello.
00:26:39Well, if it isn't...
00:26:41Kit Richards, remember?
00:26:42You bet I do.
00:26:42Have you been?
00:26:43Fine.
00:26:44Say, uh, Tex couldn't get away
00:26:45and he thought maybe he'd be all right
00:26:47if I took over.
00:26:48Well, I can't say I blame Tex much for running out.
00:26:50He sort of got roped in
00:26:51because he's a friend of Dad.
00:26:53But it's a pleasant disappointment.
00:26:55Come on, hop in.
00:26:56Right.
00:27:04Hey!
00:27:06Watch where you're going, you monk!
00:27:09Who is that fresh person?
00:27:11He's lucky if he lives through the day.
00:27:13Oh, you said it.
00:27:15Say, is the...
00:27:16Is your father going to be home all afternoon?
00:27:18Mm-hmm, I think so.
00:27:20Oh, brother.
00:27:22Huh?
00:27:23Oh, nothing.
00:27:36Hello.
00:27:41Hello, Sergeant.
00:27:43I was just looking for an address.
00:27:46Keep on looking.
00:27:48Yes.
00:28:13I hope you're catching up to the phear.
00:28:14You're a good dancer, Private Burke.
00:28:15Well, thanks, Kit.
00:28:16I guess that's what got me in the Army.
00:28:18To the life of me, I can't think what else.
00:28:20Oh, the Army's not so dumb.
00:28:23Oh, goodness.
00:28:24We'd better be going.
00:28:25It's pretty late for Dad.
00:28:26You know, he never goes out until I come in.
00:28:28Why?
00:28:29Well, Dad can't be happy until everybody else is bored to death.
00:28:33Well, all right.
00:28:34Let's go.
00:28:57I'm still looking, Sergeant.
00:29:00Try the next block.
00:29:02You're getting in a rut, soldier.
00:29:04Yeah.
00:29:28Hey, Bill.
00:29:31Bill, wait a minute.
00:29:35Well, well.
00:29:36Home bright and early, huh?
00:29:37By Private Burke.
00:29:39Soldier, how are you?
00:29:40Fine, Sergeant.
00:29:41You taste improving, Kit.
00:29:44Stick around as long as you like.
00:29:46Good night, soldier.
00:29:47Good night, Sergeant.
00:29:48Good night, Kit.
00:29:49Good night, sugar.
00:29:51Don't call me sugar.
00:29:52I hate it.
00:30:06Good night.
00:30:08Wouldn't you like to come in, soldier?
00:30:10Soldier.
00:30:12Yeah, that's what your father just told me, wasn't it?
00:30:15Yes.
00:30:16Well, on the face of it, I guess he's right.
00:30:19Private soldier is drawing extra pay for being a parachute.
00:30:24I don't believe I like the way you said that, Bill.
00:30:27I don't think much of it, either.
00:30:30Your father's awfully sure of his snap judgment, isn't he?
00:30:33Well, I admire him.
00:30:35I don't want to make a sucker out of him.
00:30:38Not so close to home, anyhow.
00:30:41What do you mean, Bill?
00:30:44You're an army girl, Kit.
00:30:46You were born that way.
00:30:48You couldn't like a bad soldier.
00:30:51You're trying to tell me something.
00:30:53What is it?
00:30:55You're wonderful, Kit.
00:30:57I want to like you.
00:30:58But first of all, I've got to like myself.
00:31:03Listen, I got drunk to a list in the parish control.
00:31:06I had to do it.
00:31:08And now I'm afraid.
00:31:11I'm afraid of what comes next.
00:31:39Always remember, your ripcord pulled your chute open.
00:31:43Now we're going to show you what happens if you fail to hook it securely.
00:31:56What would you do?
00:31:57Pull that ripcord.
00:32:03Ted was working every second.
00:32:05Never run out of altitude and knowledge at the same time.
00:32:08Don't forget, you can do a lot of navigating with those shroud lines.
00:32:12Notice when he lands now.
00:32:14He'll use his knees as a springboard.
00:32:17He'll dishrag his chute before it can drag him.
00:32:38Hey, Sarge, get a good one of me.
00:32:43Hey, Sarge, get a good one of me.
00:33:02You hurt?
00:33:03No, I'm all right.
00:33:05Well, in five seconds you forget everything we taught you, Bill.
00:33:09You ran clean out of knowledge.
00:33:11Well, I'll do better next time.
00:33:13Yee-haw!
00:33:15Yee-haw!
00:33:18Yee-haw!
00:33:26Perfect landing.
00:33:28Yeah.
00:33:29Too bad.
00:33:30Hmm?
00:33:31Not bad.
00:33:33Not bad.
00:33:38That jerk.
00:33:39That green little pipsqueak in a slide chair pasted up there with me.
00:33:44I like antiques, too, but not too many of them.
00:33:47That measly little tin soldier right beside the picture of me landing that burning plane.
00:33:52Will I have to live and die hearing about that burning plane?
00:33:57So that's it, is it?
00:33:59This is what I get in my own house.
00:34:02Why couldn't you pick on a fellow I like?
00:34:05What's wrong with Bill Burke?
00:34:07Who said anything was wrong with him?
00:34:10It happens that Saturday is payday and Don Morse is taking me out.
00:34:14Oh, he is, is he?
00:34:16Well, he likes showing off so much I bet he'd be ashamed to come around if something accidentally happened to
00:34:22his pay.
00:34:24If you use your miserable authority to spoil my evening...
00:34:28Me?
00:34:29Do you think I'd do that?
00:34:32No.
00:34:33Bet your life I wouldn't.
00:34:35I think you'd think of something I couldn't pin on you.
00:34:39Sugar.
00:34:41Don't call me Sugar!
00:34:44Caldwell.
00:34:4865-30.
00:34:5065-30.
00:34:54Collins.
00:34:5848-60.
00:34:5948-60.
00:35:04Hey, hey, hey, get back there.
00:35:06Where do you think you're going?
00:35:07Get back in line.
00:35:12I just saw him over there in Company D, but I can't get at him.
00:35:15They say he's a little fella, too.
00:35:17Oh, Domino's?
00:35:19It's a fine hairy chested outfit.
00:35:21Wanna play?
00:35:22Oh, me?
00:35:22No.
00:35:23I got a pocket full of pay, a date with Kip, and I like my games grown up.
00:35:26Did not let old Thunderhead hear you running down this game.
00:35:29He's a wizard at it.
00:35:30All right.
00:35:30He likes it, so it's wonderful.
00:35:32The king can do no wrong.
00:35:34Well, well, Domino's, Tex?
00:35:36Yeah.
00:35:37Morse doesn't like it.
00:35:38Is that so?
00:35:40Well, let's get going, fellas.
00:35:41Wait a minute, Morse.
00:35:44There was nothing personal about it.
00:35:45No, no, I realize that, but if you could learn to like Domino's,
00:35:49you and me could spend every weekend playing.
00:35:51Oh, he'd like that, wouldn't you, Don?
00:35:53Oh, yeah, that would be some hours.
00:35:55Yeah, sit down.
00:35:56Well, I feel sort of guilty about taking up all your time,
00:35:59Sergeant, for you being my superior and all that.
00:36:02Oh, you wasn't for your last wear, bud.
00:36:04Well, there's no harm me teaching you Domino's.
00:36:06It's a penny a point to go to the welfare fund.
00:36:10Who's welfare?
00:36:11Just a sweet charity.
00:36:13Yeah, sweet charity my eye.
00:36:15I need my dough for tonight.
00:36:16I understand that.
00:36:18Well, thanks.
00:36:19God playing.
00:36:44Here, take it.
00:36:45You'll need it.
00:36:46You've got a family to support.
00:36:48Well, I just happen to remember that I play a pretty fair game of Domino.
00:36:51Oh, here.
00:36:54Would you kindly drop the Sergeant's pay in the welfare box?
00:36:56Good night, Sarge.
00:36:59Still time to take care of a little business in town.
00:37:01Come on.
00:37:11Did you mind?
00:37:12Oh, no.
00:37:13No, but it just seems so unfair to so many other girls.
00:37:17Kid, I wish there was something I could say to make you believe it.
00:37:20You're the swellest girl I ever knew.
00:37:23Well, it sounds better when you say it like that.
00:37:25And I do want to thank you for a wonderful evening, Dom.
00:37:31Dad.
00:37:32It's murder.
00:37:34See you next Saturday.
00:37:35Maybe.
00:37:41You would see that guy after I told you.
00:37:43Why don't you like him, sugar?
00:37:45Because he's no good.
00:37:47He throws his money away.
00:37:49He...
00:37:51He gambles.
00:37:53And don't call me sugar.
00:37:56All right, then.
00:37:57There's just one more thing.
00:38:00Tomorrow,
00:38:01you take your first jumps.
00:38:03And this one's for keeps.
00:38:06Okay.
00:38:08Start packing.
00:38:12well,
00:38:32let me get you.
00:38:35And this one's flooring for,
00:38:37collaborator doesn't matter.
00:38:37Come on.
00:38:38Oh, yeah.
00:38:38Don't bother.
00:38:38And this one's for everything.
00:38:43Everything all right, Alice?
00:38:44Yes, sir.
00:38:46That's fine.
00:38:47Well, if this one don't work tomorrow,
00:38:49bring it back, and I'll give you another one.
00:38:51Thank you, sir.
00:38:56He's kidding, ain't he?
00:39:00I wish we'd get going on those jumps.
00:39:02Sporting editor The Herald's been pestering me for pictures.
00:39:05You know, I took that thing apart, and I looked at it.
00:39:07And I packed it, and I re-packed it.
00:39:11It seems to me some little important piece of string
00:39:15kept getting out of place.
00:39:18You'll find out.
00:39:19All right, son.
00:39:21Good night, Maul.
00:39:31Back home, Mauls used to fold everything for me.
00:39:39Let's go.
00:39:40Let's go.
00:39:51They both roll everything.
00:39:52You're a man.
00:39:52Go home.
00:39:53Go home.
00:39:54Go home.
00:39:56Go home.
00:39:56Go home.
00:39:57Go, are you?
00:40:02Go home.
00:40:04Go home.
00:40:05Go home.
00:40:06Go home.
00:40:23I'm sorry I acted the way I did.
00:40:32I guess I was trying to give my own nerve a build-up.
00:40:37You and I aren't like these other guys.
00:40:40They're getting a kick out of this.
00:40:43But I joined this outfit to get that extra dough for jumping.
00:40:50I got a family perk.
00:40:52They do need regular.
00:40:54I've got to get that extra pay.
00:41:00I'm going to try hard to make that jump tomorrow.
00:41:03But if I can't do it...
00:41:07Pipe down, you.
00:41:20Platoon, halt!
00:41:24Left, fate!
00:41:26At ease.
00:41:31I want you men to remember that we've never had a parachute fatality in this service.
00:41:39And that we don't want any force of that kind in this battalion.
00:41:45If you have any trouble with your main chute, remember your emergency.
00:41:51And when you pull that ripcord...
00:41:54Pull it hard!
00:42:00Tex...
00:42:00Put a new chute on this man.
00:42:04We could use him for the dummy.
00:42:10He's kidding again.
00:42:12Ain't he?
00:42:21All right, men.
00:42:22Missy, I'll go first to spot the wind currents for you.
00:42:25Ladies first.
00:42:26Hope she's got a better chute on than she had the other day.
00:42:28Hey, Bert.
00:42:29You didn't pack this chute, did you?
00:42:31You'll find out.
00:42:42Let's go.
00:42:43You men!
00:42:43Get back in your seat!
00:42:48Gee, look at her awful lady.
00:42:50It looks like she's over Alabama.
00:42:52Yeah.
00:42:57Number one.
00:42:59That's you, Morse.
00:43:02Good luck.
00:43:03Whoo!
00:43:03Happy landing.
00:43:04Give my love to Bessie.
00:43:07Relax, Morse.
00:43:09Yeah, relax, Morse.
00:43:10The toughest part's in your own mind.
00:43:12If you fellas are expecting a dizzy drop, you're going to be badly mistaken.
00:43:16Why, when you get out there, you'll feel like you're standing still.
00:43:19The sky just rolling by.
00:43:22Hook up!
00:43:26Turn the door.
00:43:31Head up, Morse.
00:43:32Take it easy.
00:43:33Leave those muscles free to move.
00:43:35When Kirk says go, you go.
00:43:45Go!
00:43:56Go!
00:43:57Boy, you sure come out with a jerk.
00:43:59Somebody we know.
00:44:06Yahoo!
00:44:21Hollis!
00:44:24That's you, Slim.
00:44:32Got that good luck horse show?
00:44:33You don't need a parachute.
00:44:34You just step down here.
00:44:37I'll go.
00:44:37Wake up, Hollis, and fasten your chest cord.
00:44:49Hook up.
00:44:53Stand your door.
00:45:15put that foot up.
00:45:20Go!
00:45:22It seems to me there was some little...
00:45:52Let's go!
00:46:23Whee!

00:49:34Well, I thought that was funny.
00:49:37Oh.
00:49:42Men?
00:49:44I, uh, just talked to Spence over in the observation ward.
00:49:49He's going to get his transfer.
00:49:52And he wants to thank Private Burke for taking that gun away.
00:49:58I don't suppose anybody will mind now if I...
00:50:02let you all in on something.
00:50:05The Commandant's son is right here in your company.
00:50:10Private Bill Burke.
00:50:13Why didn't you tell him?
00:50:16How about it, Bill?
00:50:23Sergeant, uh...
00:50:24I, I wonder if I could see the Commandant.
00:50:28Well, that's quite a coincidence.
00:50:31The Commandant was wondering if he could see you.
00:50:44Come in.
00:50:46Private Burke wants to see you, sir.
00:50:48Hello, Bill. Sit down.
00:50:51And Bill, stop trying to look so important.
00:50:54I don't think it's that, sir.
00:50:56I guess it's just that a real soldier don't like so much hullabaloo.
00:51:00So I've heard.
00:51:03Well, son.
00:51:05Haven't you anything to say?
00:51:07Yes, sir.
00:51:09I wish to be transferred to another branch of the service.
00:51:13Well, you don't know what he's talking about, sir.
00:51:16He's been through a good deal today.
00:51:18Yes, I have.
00:51:19Only it's not what you think.
00:51:23Gee, I, I'd rather Spencer had shot me up there today than, than to have to tell you this.
00:51:29I was, I was afraid to jump. I was stalling.
00:51:33Don't you see?
00:51:34It, it was the only out I could find.
00:51:36Bill.
00:51:38You don't mean that.
00:51:40You're gonna stay here with us.
00:51:41And turn out to be another Spence?
00:51:45Can't you see, sir, I'm, I'm doing this for you.
00:51:48If I stick around here, it, well, it might make you look pretty bad.
00:51:55Maybe he's using better judgment than we are.
00:52:00Private Burke, you'll be quietly assigned to ground duty for two weeks.
00:52:05If you don't change your mind on that time, you'll get your transfer.
00:52:12Yes, sir.
00:52:14I, I'd like...
00:52:23Good night, sir.
00:52:27Good night, Mayberry.
00:52:28Bill's the name.
00:52:30I know that.
00:52:32It's my name.
00:52:33I gave it to you.
00:52:35Well, I'm taking it back.
00:52:44We got that now. Let's try a slow blues on this.
00:52:51Let's go.
00:53:08Hey, Jeff, how come you put your emergency shoot when you jump today?
00:53:12Well, I was the last one to jump, and I saw I was passing everybody, I figured it's about time
00:53:17to pull it.
00:53:29Beat it out for him.
00:53:30Beat it out for him.
00:53:38Beat it out for him.
00:53:59Beat it out for him.
00:54:01I'll be back to you.
00:54:01Well, I'm here, kid, let's go.
00:54:02Oh, my God!
00:54:05Well, I'll be right back.
00:54:06You guys can do it well.
00:54:07I'm getting along right now.
00:54:08We all got this.
00:54:13Beat it out.
00:54:14And I'll be right back.
00:54:15I'll be right back.
00:54:33Did you notice the transfer?
00:54:38The quieter you get out of here tomorrow, the better.
00:54:41Yes, sir.
00:54:44I'm sorry.
00:54:44I'm sorry.
00:54:44I'm sorry.
00:54:44I'm sorry.
00:54:48The kid says you miss her.
00:54:51You might tell her I'll miss her, too.
00:54:53I've got no time for that stuff.
00:54:55I've got some drop tests to make with Bessie.
00:54:58You can come along if you want.
00:55:15Where do we drop her?
00:55:17Take a look and see if the ground crew has put out the panels yet.
00:55:20Yes, sir.
00:55:23Okay.
00:55:25You sure you're clear of the plane before you pull that ripcord?
00:55:29Are you trying to be funny?
00:55:30No.
00:55:31But I'm going to make a parachute trooper out of you, Mayberry.
00:55:34Before it's too late to cancel that transfer.
00:55:37You're crazy!
00:55:38Maybe so, but you're going to sink or swim!
00:56:03Hey!
00:56:04We're going to land in the river!
00:56:07Yeah!
00:56:09Can you swim?
00:56:10No!
00:56:10Yeah!
00:56:11Can you?
00:56:12No!
00:56:49No!
00:56:49Sir, I'm afraid this transfer isn't much good anymore.
00:56:51We'll cancel it immediately.
00:56:53Thank you, sir.
00:56:54How's Sergeant Richards today?
00:56:55I'm afraid he's going to be in the hospital for quite a while.
00:56:57But when they told him you went up again this morning and made a good jump,
00:57:01his temperature dropped two points.
00:57:03I'll make another tomorrow.
00:57:03No, you don't.
00:57:04You'll make your required six jumps according to schedule.
00:57:07Yes, sir.
00:57:11No, we're going to miss that old fog horn yelling in our ears.
00:57:13Yeah, couldn't you do a little bellowing, Sergeant, just to make it feel natural?
00:57:16I ain't had a decent jump since he's in the hospital.
00:57:19That makes you even with yourself.
00:57:20All right, then.
00:57:21Hook up.
00:57:24Stand at all.
00:57:40the
00:57:51the
00:57:52the
00:58:11Lay on those mountains.
00:58:13I want that floor clean enough to eat off on.
00:58:18Eat off of there?
00:58:19That's what I said.
00:58:21Just like them Collinses.
00:58:26He'll never learn anything with his shoes on.
00:58:37Collins!
00:58:40Glad to see you.
00:58:41How are you, old man?
00:58:42Fine, thanks.
00:58:43Collins!
00:58:44Captain Collins to you.
00:58:46Yes, sir.
00:58:48What are you doing here?
00:59:05There's only some way we get word to old Thunderhead.
00:59:08Let him know we're going to do our best for him out there Monday.
00:59:10Yeah.
00:59:12Yeah, it'd be nice, wouldn't it?
00:59:14Make him feel better.
00:59:21Hello, Colonel.
00:59:23Hiya, Sergeant.
00:59:25Hello, Bill.
00:59:26Hello, Sergeant.
00:59:27How do you feel tonight?
00:59:29Well, I've...
00:59:30I've felt a lot better, Bill.
00:59:32The fellas wanted me to tell you that
00:59:33that they're going to try harder for you than they ever could for themselves.
00:59:37Is that on the level?
00:59:38That's why I came here tonight, just to tell you that.
00:59:41That's great, Bill.
00:59:42Take it easy, Sergeant.
00:59:43You'll have to leave now, Burke.
00:59:45Oh.
00:59:45Yes, sir.
00:59:48Good night, Bill.
00:59:50Thanks for coming.
00:59:52You've done me more good than a bushel of pills.
00:59:56Good night, Sergeant.
00:59:58Good night, Colonel Burke.
00:59:59Good night.
00:59:59Good night, sir.
01:00:04This is the gall-darnest thing.
01:00:07I suppose next week you'll be asking me to play Camille.
01:00:10Sergeant looks very chic in a night gall, don't you think so, sir?
01:00:12Yes.
01:00:13He has what I believe is known in some circles as appeal.
01:00:16Oh, excuse me, sir, but I've been fit as a fiddle for a week
01:00:22and those orderlies won't even let me walk down the hall.
01:00:24That's because you're such a valuable patient.
01:00:27The whole battalion's going to make good just to save your life.
01:00:29Why don't you pour Sergeant Richards a little medicinal whiskey?
01:00:35Hey, wait a minute.
01:00:39Excuse me.
01:00:40I'm afraid of getting an overdose.
01:00:53Whoa!
01:00:54Hey, Bill.
01:00:55You know what?
01:00:56It's terrific.
01:00:58Hey, salute me, pal.
01:00:59You feel all right?
01:01:01No, I'm dizzy.
01:01:02My college ROTC just paid off.
01:01:04Nickels or dimes?
01:01:05Oh, second lieutenant reserve.
01:01:07They're going to send me down for a refresher course
01:01:08right after the big splurge Monday.
01:01:10Oh, gosh.
01:01:11Don, gee.
01:01:11That's swell.
01:01:12Oh, you said it.
01:01:13A commissioned officer can get married.
01:01:15Maybe that's bad.
01:01:16Oh, no.
01:01:16Not this time.
01:01:17Kit's over at the hospital seeing her old man.
01:01:20The minute I get through wadding those umbrellas,
01:01:22I'm going to beat it right over there and tell her.
01:01:23Kit?
01:01:24Yeah, Kit.
01:01:25Oh.
01:01:26Say, what's eating you?
01:01:29I've been thinking women are a dime a dozen of you.
01:01:31Well, you're way behind in your thinking.
01:01:32Yeah, but I'm catching up quick.
01:01:35Say, if you've got Kit on your mind, you're out of luck.
01:01:37Maybe not.
01:01:38Not if I get there first.
01:01:40If you try to toss a monkey wrench into this thing...
01:01:42There's no law against competition.
01:01:44You mean you'd cross me up?
01:01:45I suppose anybody's a double-crosser that won't run interference for you.
01:01:48Well, brother, you're on your own today.
01:01:50Huh.
01:01:51You're looking for trouble.
01:01:52And I'm going to see that you get it.
01:01:54Okay, I'm learning to love it.
01:01:55I went through plenty of it to make Bill Burke into something he wasn't.
01:01:58I didn't think very much of that guy at first, but now I even like him.
01:02:01Yeah, it was Kit Richards' back of all that.
01:02:03And you're dumber than Bessie if you think I'm stepping off the sidewalk for Shavetail Morse Reserve.
01:02:13It's a mighty sloppy way of packing the chute.
01:02:15Better restow those lines.
01:02:16It's okay, Sergeant.
01:02:17I'll jump you like this.
01:02:18You heard what I said.
01:02:19Restow those lines.
01:02:21Back to your table, Morse.
01:02:23Well, I'll keep you busy for a while, bud.
01:02:24Yeah, that's what you think.
01:02:35You know, you haven't mentioned Don all evening.
01:02:37Yeah, but I've been thinking a lot about him.
01:02:41Kit, there's something that's got to be settled.
01:02:43Yes, I know.
01:02:45Seems to me lately Don's had something on his mind.
01:02:48Maybe something about me.
01:02:50Yeah.
01:02:51Today he received word he's getting an officer's commission.
01:02:54That's why I had to see it before he could turn on that high-pressure appearance.
01:02:56A commission?
01:02:57Oh, that's wonderful.
01:03:00Bill, will you do something for me?
01:03:03Will you tell Don that I care for him very much?
01:03:06And tell him that if he has anything important to ask me...
01:03:09Tell him yourself.
01:03:11Bill!
01:03:12Well, you're in love with me.
01:03:15Well, aren't you?
01:03:17Of course I am.
01:03:18What's been holding you back?
01:03:19Oh, a lot of things.
01:03:21Things I had to get straight in my own mind.
01:03:23Like two more years of enlisted service.
01:03:26That's not too long to wait for the right one.
01:03:40As you all know, this general demonstration is to be an attack on an enemy village.
01:03:45Our operations are to coordinate with the other participating units at this post.
01:03:49The parachute unit has been charged with the destruction of a central objective,
01:03:54which houses a powder magazine, indicated by these crosses.
01:03:58Due to their recent good work, I've assigned two men for a special detail against the powder magazine.
01:04:03Private Morris and Private Burke.
01:04:11Any questions, boys?
01:04:14Take over, Sergeant.
01:04:15Detail, attention.
01:04:19All right, men, fall out.
01:04:21Battalion, halt!
01:04:24Left, face!
01:04:28Morris and Burke are missing.
01:04:29They are.
01:04:30Take over.
01:04:31Right.
01:04:32All right.
01:04:32Face!
01:04:35Forward.
01:04:36March!
01:04:58You idiot!
01:05:00I'm trying to be picking a flag and me risking my stripes to save the hide.
01:05:04I'm not through you yet.
01:05:05All right, you're asking for it.
01:05:06Shut up!
01:05:07Look.
01:05:08Where's where you're supposed to be?
01:05:12What can we do?
01:05:14Get going, you lugs, and I'll show you.
01:05:25Get it!
01:05:26Get out, Lieutenant!
01:05:27Take some in your!
01:05:28Right!
01:05:28Now you've got one chance to clean yourselves up.
01:05:30Get to those powder magazines and get to them quick!
01:05:33We can't use our static lines on this ship.
01:05:34Use your emergency shoe sensor there for!
01:05:56Let's go on.
01:05:57You packed your emergency shoot in an awful hurry, remember?
01:06:01You didn't think you'd have a chance to use it, did you?
01:06:03I said I'd jump the shoot and I will.
01:06:05It'll work, all right.
01:06:07No, it won't.
01:06:08You packed your shroud lines in a tangle.
01:06:10I saw you.
01:06:16All right, men, hook up.
01:06:17Up and through.
01:06:18Thunderhead.
01:06:19And the door.
01:06:39I'm out.
01:06:39And the door!
01:06:40He's out there in the yard.
01:06:40Be aware, you might have to cut any interest with a few people.
01:06:40No, no, no.
01:06:40You're a merry-go-go-go-go-go.
01:06:40Oh, it's a merry-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go.
01:06:41I'm not going to walk away.
01:06:41He's out there, these are the stories that are going to the daycare,
01:06:41and I'll take over.
01:06:41If you're to a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of aifier,
01:06:42All right.
01:06:42It's our little bit of a walk.
01:06:43All right!
01:07:12Drop that equipment!
01:07:42Oh, my God.
01:08:09Get those packs open.
01:08:17Hey, you're not going to jump that chute, are you?
01:08:19It's suicide.
01:08:23Well, here goes for old Thunderhead.
01:08:30I'll pass the word along to Kit that you lost your nerve.
01:08:35Hey!
01:08:47Can you get him off?
01:08:49I don't know.
01:08:50Do you know what it means?
01:08:51A piramid mare.
01:08:52Get him.
01:09:05Get back there!
01:09:21Get out of my leg!
01:09:33We're both going down on my chute!
01:09:36I messed it up when I packed it!
01:09:39It's just too bad!
01:09:53It worked.
01:09:54Sure it worked!
01:09:56One of the best packers in the Army repacked it for you.
01:09:59What?
01:09:59Sure.
01:10:01I wanted to beat your ears off.
01:10:03I didn't want you to break your neck.
01:10:04I repacked your chute.
01:10:06Thanks.
01:10:08Okay.
01:10:09I just thanked myself.
01:10:25You all right?
01:10:27No!
01:10:28What's the matter?
01:10:30I'm all wet!
01:10:41I'm all wet!
01:10:59Thanks, Major.
01:11:00Private G. Whittle will report for duty!
01:11:03Reynolds.
01:11:04Your men had orders to destroy the powder magazine.
01:11:07What's happened to them?
01:11:11Hey, what luck, we're right behind the village.
01:11:13Yeah, look.
01:11:27Boy, I wish that street down there was full of Cullen's.
01:11:30Cullen?
01:11:31That's my name.
01:11:33What?
01:11:34Cullen.
01:11:36Why, you little mouse.
01:11:38You have it sniffing all over for you.
01:11:41My name's Hollis.
01:11:44Hollis?
01:11:46Hollis?
01:11:47You ornery little crawler.
01:11:49I'm going to make dog meat out of you.
01:11:52You know what I'm going to do to you?
01:11:54We're running.
01:11:55We're running.
01:11:56Never mind that.
01:11:57Don't try to talk me out of it.
01:11:58You know what I'm going to do?
01:11:59I'm going...
01:12:00On what?
01:12:01On the powder house.
01:12:10Hey, Bill.
01:12:11There it is.
01:12:12Give me a hand grenade and stand clear.
01:12:43My hero.
01:12:45Congratulations, Colonel.
01:12:47Thank you, sir.
01:12:52The Chief of Infantry wishes to congratulate Colonel Burke and the officers and enlisted men of the 501st Parachute Battalion
01:12:59for proving their important value as a combat unit and who now will be officially awarded the new parachute emblem.
01:13:05Go ahead, Sergeant.
01:13:11manifestations mcbride.
01:13:13Congratulations mcbride.
01:13:14Thank you, sir.

01:13:26Oh, so it's you.
01:13:28You know.
01:13:28That battalion would never speak to you again if they knew you had your health.
01:13:31Private first class.
01:13:33Burnt.
01:13:35Congratulations.
01:13:37Bill?
01:13:39Dad?
01:13:46Say, where's Don?
01:13:48He was here a couple of minutes ago.
01:13:54There he goes.
01:13:55Hey, Lieutenant!
01:13:58See you around in a couple of years.
01:14:00Yes, you're gonna be the best man.
01:14:02What do you mean, gonna be?
01:14:03I always was.
01:14:07I think I'll just see that he gets his suitcase packed.
01:14:11Stick around as close as you like, kid.
01:14:14Thanks, Pop.
01:14:16He's always kiddin'.
01:14:20Ain't he?
01:14:23Let's go, the parachutes are here.
01:14:27On the land is to land in the clear.
01:14:30Let the war be there.
01:14:34Let the war be there.
01:14:34When we paint the air.
01:14:36The war will make the enemy disappear.
01:14:40And when we lie, we start to fight.
