00:23Thank you very much indeed.
00:24Hello, I'm Alexander Armstrong,
00:25and a very warm welcome to Pointless,
00:26the show where the aim of the game is to avoid the obvious answers
00:29and find the obscure ones.
00:30Let's meet today's players.
00:35And couple number one.
00:37Hi, Xander, my name's Mark,
00:38this is my sister Jackie,
00:40and we're both from Croydon in South London.
00:41Couple number two.
00:43Hello, Xander, I'm Annie,
00:44this is my husband Ian,
00:45and we live in Bedfordshire.
00:46Couple number three.
00:48Hello, my name is Sylvia,
00:49and this is my lovely husband Ian,
00:51and we're from South East London.
00:52And finally, couple number four.
00:54Hello, I'm Lesley,
00:55this is my husband Bob,
00:56and we come from a little village near Aylesbury,
00:59and these are today's contestants.
01:01APPLAUSE
01:01Thank you very much, all of you.
01:03A very, very warm welcome to Pointless.
01:05It's lovely to have you all here.
01:06That just leaves one more person for me to introduce.
01:08A TV presenter who claims she can't lie
01:10because her face always gives her away.
01:12So here to roll her eyes at some of today's high-scoring answers,
01:15it is my Pointless friend, it's Angela Scanler.
01:18Hello.
01:19Hello, Angela.
01:20Yeah, my poker face isn't brilliant.
01:23But that, I think that speaks very, very sweetly of you, though.
01:26Do you think so?
01:27It shows you're a genuine person.
01:28Yeah, OK, we'll take that.
01:30Yeah, but it's, you know, some people lie far too easily.
01:33It's true.
01:34Even if I want to, my face gives me away.
01:36Yes.
01:37Yeah.
01:37It gets me in trouble.
01:39But, you know, ultimately, you know where you stand.
01:41And I stand over here.
01:42Right there, stay there.
01:43There we are.
01:44OK.
01:44This is my table.
01:46She's not lying.
01:47Tell me that.
01:49Now then, Georgia and Gary got through to the final last time
01:51and they won the jackpot, which is terrific.
01:53So today's jackpot starts off back at £1,000.
01:57There we are.
01:57Right, if everyone's ready, let's play Pointless.
02:05It is only right that I remind you all that at the end of each round,
02:09as is customary, we will be eliminating the pair with the highest score.
02:12So if you want to stay on till the end,
02:14keep your scores as low as you possibly can.
02:16That's it.
02:17That's the rule.
02:17Best of luck to everybody.
02:19Our first category today is...
02:23Attention-grabbing headlines.
02:24Can you all decide in your pairs?
02:26Who's going to go first?
02:27Who's going to go second?
02:28No.
02:29And whoever's going first, please step up to the podium.
02:35OK, and the question concerns...
02:39Clickbait for films.
02:40They've outdone themselves today.
02:43We are going to show you two boards of nine clues
02:45to popular feature films in the style of clickbait headlines.
02:49We've added the initials of the films
02:50and the years of their release as additional clues.
02:54Please give us the titles of these films.
02:56Thank you very much indeed.
02:58So, yes, nine on each board.
03:00You can just choose which ones you want to go for.
03:02Here is our first board of clickbait headlines.
03:06The real reason people are cancelling their holidays
03:08to Amity Island.
03:10J, 1975.
03:11This family entered a singing competition.
03:13What happened next changed everything.
03:16T-S-O-M, 1965.
03:18This one crazy mod to your car
03:21means you'll never pay the congestion charge.
03:23C-C-B-B, 1968.
03:26You'll never guess what this man ate with a bottle of Chianti.
03:30T-S-O-T-L, 1991.
03:33Woman claims she hadn't noticed the weather
03:36despite standing in torrential rain.
03:39F-W-A-A-F, 1994.
03:42You won't believe what happened to this boy
03:44after he went to a carnival
03:46and made a wish on an antique fortune-teller machine.
03:49B, 1988.
03:51Boy spills water on friend's cute new pet.
03:54What happens next will terrify you.
03:56G, 1984.
03:57Do your monster neighbours have sensitive hearing?
04:02Read the top ten ways to survive in silence.
04:05A-Q-P, 2018.
04:08And doctors hate this man for looking younger every day.
04:13T-C-C-O-B-B, 2008.
04:18There we are. Mark, welcome back to Pointless.
04:21Tell us more about yourself, Mark.
04:23Yeah, so in the last game I mentioned I work in marketing
04:27and I'm also a personal trader.
04:29I've also wanted to make an effort to go out on more holidays
04:33in this next decade.
04:34So me and my sister recently went to Ghana for the first time
04:37in about 15 odd years
04:39and hadn't seen my grandma for that amount of time.
04:42Oh, that's so lovely.
04:43Some cousins we haven't met ever
04:44because they weren't born the first time we went before.
04:47So, yeah, just trying to make more of an effort to fly out
04:49and be adventurous.
04:51Really nice.
04:51Very good indeed.
04:52Now, Mark, these films which is leaping out at you
04:56is a nice low score there.
04:58Absolutely none, none of them.
05:14Um...
05:14Juggernaut says...
05:16I just...
05:16Oh.
05:18Oh, no.
05:19I'm going to have to take your first answer, I'm so sorry.
05:22Juggernaut says Mark for that one from 1975 beginning with J.
05:26It's not Juggernaut, is it?
05:28Juggernaut.
05:31Sorry, Mark.
05:34That's fine.
05:34That's so annoying.
05:35That scores you 100 points.
05:36Sorry.
05:37We'll give you the correct answer at the end of the pass.
05:40Thank you very much indeed.
05:41Annie, welcome back.
05:42Show two.
05:43Thank you indeed.
05:44Tell us more about yourself, Annie.
05:46Um, well, retirement has brought lots of travel for us,
05:49which is amazing.
05:50That's just lovely.
05:51And a long-held desire was to drive to Greece.
05:54We have a favourite Greek island we've been to many, many times.
05:57Yes.
05:57And so we jumped in my Mini and we drove to Greece.
06:00And it was 4,000 miles there and back.
06:01So, talk us through the journey.
06:03Where did you go to?
06:04Just a quick, brief itinerary through the countries.
06:06We were in France, Italy, San Marino, in the rain.
06:10Yes.
06:10Um, Italy and then down through northern Greece on a ferry to the island,
06:16which is called Skopalos.
06:17And then we came back coming up through Albania, Montenegro,
06:21Croatia.
06:22Wow.
06:22Oh, that's just beautiful.
06:24And home.
06:24Austria.
06:25Austria.
06:26Slovenia.
06:27Slovenia.
06:28I think there were 14 countries.
06:29Oh, that sounds like such good fun.
06:31Was it a route someone had worked out for you or had you plotted it?
06:34We worked it out.
06:35Brilliant.
06:36And stopped in lots of interesting places, obviously.
06:38Gorgeous places.
06:39Ah, that's just perfect.
06:40What are you going to go for on our board?
06:41Can you work out what these films are from these clickbait headlines?
06:45I am going to go for the last one, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
06:49The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, says Annie.
06:51Shall we see how many of our 100 said that?
06:56The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is absolutely right.
06:59And down it goes to eight.
07:03Very well done.
07:04Nice.
07:05The making of this film had been discussed for around 20 years,
07:08but was considered too complicated because of the ageing.
07:12Apparently, the make-up artist spent 18 months perfecting pieces
07:15and application processes.
07:18Thank you very much indeed, Angela.
07:21Now, Sylvia, welcome to Pointless.
07:22Great to have you here.
07:23Tell us all about yourself, Sylvia.
07:25I retired about two years ago.
07:28And previously, I worked as a college tutor
07:30with students doing vocational qualifications.
07:33Very good.
07:34And what sort of things do you love getting up to these days?
07:36I volunteer in a local library.
07:38Very good.
07:39And I've started going to the gym every morning.
07:41Oh, well done.
07:42Well, do you use a trainer?
07:44I'd use a trainer to start off with.
07:46Good.
07:47To get me on the right path.
07:48Exactly.
07:48That's very good.
07:49Good for you, Sylvia.
07:51What would you like to go for on our board?
07:53I will go for the bottom middle one, A Quiet Place.
07:59A Quiet Place.
08:00Shall we see how many of our 100 people said A Quiet Place?
08:05A Quiet Place is right.
08:07Well, 100 is our high score.
08:08Eight is our low.
08:11And 16 is where you end up with A Quiet Place.
08:15A horror film where extraterrestrial predators are unable to see but use their acute hearing to hunt humans.
08:22John Krasinski directed, co-wrote and starred alongside his wife Emily Blunt and apparently it was her idea for him
08:28to direct it.
08:29I bet it was.
08:30Yeah.
08:31Yeah.
08:31Thank you very much indeed, Angela.
08:34Now then, Leslie, welcome back.
08:36Hi.
08:36It's your third show.
08:38It is.
08:39Um, Leslie, we need to know more about you.
08:40Tell us.
08:41Tell us.
08:42Um, I used to have a horse that was a film star.
08:45He was in Black Beauty, the Sean Bean version.
08:50Wow.
08:50And Lady Hawk.
08:52Starring as which of the horses?
08:53Not in the title role.
08:54He was like the stunt double.
08:56Of Black Beauty.
08:56Because the main horse was too valuable to be used for all the dangerous shots.
09:01So Jet was the one that did all the dangerous stuff.
09:03Shit.
09:04And how lovely.
09:05And do you watch the finished film and go, that's Jet, that's Jet.
09:08Yep.
09:09That's Jet there.
09:10That's what's Jet.
09:11Yep.
09:12I know his hindquarters anywhere.
09:13Yeah.
09:15Fabulous.
09:16Leslie, this board is all yours.
09:19You could answer as many of those as you like and then tell us which one you want to submit.
09:23Well, the real reason people are cancelling their holidays is Jaws.
09:26The family entering the competition is The Sound of Music.
09:30This one crazy mod is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
09:34You'll never guess the bottle of Chianti, Silence of the Lambs.
09:39Don't know the next one.
09:41The boy at the carnival is big.
09:44And the boy spills water on his cute pet is Gremlins.
09:49I'll bank on it perhaps being a younger audience and go for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
09:54You're going to go for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
09:56Should we see how many of our 100 said that?
10:00Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is right.
10:01Well, 100 still are high score.
10:03Eight are low.
10:06Look at that.
10:0711.
10:07Very well done indeed, Leslie.
10:08That'll do.
10:09And that was the best of the ones you knew.
10:11Cleared up the entire board.
10:13The one remaining one was Four Weddings and a Funeral.
10:17Of course it was.
10:18And would have scored you four.
10:21Top left, Jaws was 28.
10:24The Sound of Music, 29.
10:28The Silence of the Lambs, 21.
10:33Big was 15.
10:35And those pesky little gremlins at 30.
10:39Thank you very much.
10:40We're halfway through the round.
10:41Let's have a quick recap of those scores.
10:42Eight, the best score of the pass, Annie.
10:44Very well done indeed to you.
10:46Then we travel up to 11, where we find Leslie and Bob,
10:48and there to 16, where we find Sylvia and Ian,
10:50and then up there to 100.
10:52I'm so sorry, Mark.
10:53And you knew that, Jaws.
10:55Anything can happen in the next pass, Jackie.
10:57But a lovely low score from you is not going to hurt.
11:00So good luck with that.
11:00We're going to come back down the line now.
11:01Will the second players please step up to the podium?
11:07OK, let's put nine more clues to feature films
11:09in the style of clickbait headlines on the board.
11:12And here they are.
11:14You'll never believe the lengths this divorced dad goes to
11:18in order to see his kids.
11:29This is how you dig a hole, steal a motorbike,
11:46and head for Switzerland.
11:50The piece of jewellery sending people so wild
11:53that they may need to destroy it.
11:55T-L-O-T-R, T-F-O-T-R, 2001.
12:01This one weird trick got her from the scullery
12:04to the prince's gala.
12:05C, 1950.
12:07Lonely old man ties balloons to his house.
12:10What happens next will shock you.
12:12U, 2009.
12:14And finally, there's something about this child psychologist
12:17they don't want you to know.
12:19T-S-S, 1999.
12:23There we are.
12:25Bob, welcome back.
12:26Tell us more about yourself, Bob.
12:28It's your last show.
12:29Well, I'm 75 years old and I'm retired.
12:33And recently, just to try and keep the old brain going a bit,
12:37we do a bit of line dancing.
12:38I recently joined a community choir with Leslie.
12:41That's fun.
12:42How often do you get together and do that?
12:43Well, it's once a week at the moment, but I think it'll get a bit bigger.
12:47It's really good fun.
12:48But it's fun.
12:49It's a lovely choir.
12:49It's in a local village near us called Wing.
12:51And it's an absolutely wonderful choir.
12:53Lovely.
12:54Well, good for you, Bob.
12:55By the way, you're on 11, which means 88 or less gets you into round two,
12:59which I hope won't be stretching you too far.
13:01But let's see what you found on this board.
13:04Well, there's a few there of my sort of era,
13:06but the one I'll go for is really my era.
13:09This is how you dig a hole, steal a motorbike and head for six lind.
13:12The Great Escape.
13:13The Great Escape, says Bob.
13:15Here is your red line, nice and high.
13:18Can we get you below that with The Great Escape?
13:21Yes, we can.
13:26There we are.
13:26That goes down to 35, taking your total up to 46.
13:29Great.
13:30Very good.
13:30Now, while many elements in the film did actually happen,
13:33the iconic motorbike jump did not.
13:36Steve McQueen was an accomplished motorbike rider
13:38and could have done it, but the film's insurance company insisted
13:42the jump was performed by a stunt double.
13:45Brilliant.
13:45Ian B, welcome.
13:47Lovely to have you here.
13:48Tell us all about yourself.
13:49I'm a part-time professional civil engineer now,
13:52working on major projects, rail projects primarily.
13:57Are we allowed to know what rail projects?
13:58Are they in this country?
13:59They are.
14:00There's...
14:00Is it a famous one?
14:01It's a famous one.
14:03And I also worked on the previous famous one,
14:06which links London to the Channel Tunnel.
14:09Right.
14:09I spent ten years of my life on that,
14:11which now boils down to seven and a half minutes on a dark train.
14:15Oh, it's like making one of those of animation films.
14:18Exactly.
14:19Literally happens in three seconds.
14:21It took someone a year to do.
14:22Yeah.
14:22Now, Ian, you're on 16.
14:2483 or less gets you into round two.
14:26What would you like to go for?
14:27Yeah, I can't think fast enough for this.
14:29I'm going for the 1950 film, Cinderella, I think.
14:36Cinderella for 1950.
14:37Shall we see if that's right?
14:38Here is your red line, nice and high.
14:40Can we get you below that with Cinderella?
14:44We certainly can.
14:46Down and down and down that goes.
14:48Lucky.
14:49Down to 30.
14:50Taking your total up to 46.
14:52Exactly the same total as Bob and Lesley.
14:54It was Disney's first feature-length animation since Bambi in 1942.
14:59It's been reported that on Cinderella's release day in New York,
15:03200 people lined up outside a cinema there, which feels quite tame.
15:07I feel like 200 people line up for sourdough these days
15:10on a random Wednesday morning.
15:12You're right.
15:13You know?
15:14Completely right.
15:15200, what are they talking about?
15:16You guys love a queue in this country.
15:18Thank you very much indeed.
15:19Now, Ian, welcome back to Pointless.
15:23Good to have you with us again.
15:24Tell us more about yourself, Ian.
15:26Well, as I was saying, I am retired and once a year I organise a charity
15:32pop festival, really, at our local pub.
15:34It's now been running for, I think, 14 years.
15:38And our goal was to raise £500 and we're now at £63,000.
15:46Ian, that's phenomenal.
15:48Yeah, absolutely brilliant.
15:49Good for you.
15:51And does it grow and grow each year?
15:53It grow every year.
15:54And that's across a weekend or is it just on one...?
15:56I'm hoping to make it a two-day event at some point.
15:58Very good.
15:59Now, Ian, you are on eight.
16:0291 or less gets you into round two.
16:05Can you work out what these films are?
16:07What would you like to go for?
16:08I'm shrugging a little bit, but I'm going to go for the longest one
16:10that's up there, which I believe is The Lord of the Rings,
16:14The Fellowship of the Ring.
16:16There we are.
16:17Thank you very much indeed.
16:18The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, says Ian.
16:20Here is your red line.
16:22Let us see if that's right and let's see if that gets you through
16:25to round two.
16:27It is and it does.
16:34That goes down to three.
16:35That is a phenomenal answer.
16:36Very well done indeed, Ian.
16:37Taking your total up to 11.
16:39Brilliant.
16:40Now, after filming the trilogy,
16:42Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis were each given one of the rings
16:45used in filming to keep their thought to be only ten in the world.
16:49So, worth a few quid, I'd imagine.
16:51I should think they are.
16:52I wonder what they're made of.
16:53Probably gold.
16:54Probably gold.
16:55Yes.
16:56Yeah.
16:57Thank you very much indeed.
16:58Now, Jackie, I'm so sorry.
16:59Even as I was celebrating Ian and Annie making it through to round two,
17:03I was aware.
17:04I was like, I was dancing on your pointless grave.
17:08That didn't sound quite right, but you know what I mean.
17:13Jackie, tell us more about yourself.
17:15So, I said before that I'm a midwife,
17:19so I'm currently in the hospital.
17:21I'm moving over to the community.
17:23So, in between that switchover,
17:25I've got a little bit of time off,
17:26so I'm planning to do a little bit more solo travelling.
17:29Very nice.
17:29So, I've already been to Barcelona and to Milan,
17:33which was lovely.
17:34This is terrific.
17:35There we are.
17:36Jackie, I'm sorry to say you are on 100 and you are our high scorers,
17:38but what would you like to go for on our board?
17:40Would you like to talk us through it?
17:42No.
17:43LAUGHTER
17:45So, I only know two.
17:47I know the top middle, which is Wonka,
17:50and I know the middle left, which is The Devil Wears Prada.
17:55I will probably go for The Devil Wears Prada.
17:57The Devil Wears Prada says,
17:59Jackie, no red line for you, I'm afraid, as you are the highest scorers,
18:01but how many of our 100 said The Devil Wears Prada?
18:05The Devil Wears Prada, indeed.
18:10And down it goes to 13. It's a great score.
18:14113, your total.
18:16The best of the two you chose as well, 13.
18:19Wonka would have got you 27.
18:22Xander?
18:23Yes.
18:24Mrs Doubtfire on the top left.
18:2618 for Mrs Doubtfire.
18:28Jerry Maguire, top right.
18:30Yes.
18:308.
18:33Up for that one there.
18:35That one there would have got you 47.
18:38And The Sixth Sense.
18:39Boom!
18:4112 for The Sixth Sense.
18:43Well done.
18:43Thank you very much, indeed.
18:44That brings us to the end of our first round.
18:46It means we have to say goodbye to our first pair of the afternoon.
18:48Jackie and Mark, I'm afraid it is you, our low scorers,
18:51at the beginning of our last show.
18:52This next time, we have to hope that we can find that form again
18:56and see you through to the final, which I'm sure is where you should be.
18:59Thank you so much for playing, though, Jackie.
19:01And Mark.
19:03For the remaining three pairs, though, it's now time for round two.
19:11There we are, down to three pairs.
19:13Very well done in that first round.
19:15Ian M, our lowest individual scorer.
19:17In fact, Annie and Ian M are lowest combined scorers.
19:20So, fabulous work on that near podium.
19:22But well done, everybody.
19:23Best of luck for round two.
19:24Our category for round two today is...
19:29Public transport.
19:30Can you all decide in your pairs who's going to go first,
19:31who's going to go second?
19:33And whoever's going first, please step up to the podium.
19:39OK, and the question concerns...
19:43Shared words in the names of train stations, Angela.
19:47In each clue, we're going to give you the beginnings of the names
19:50of three UK train stations, which all have the same word
19:52at the end of their names.
19:54However, the shared words are missing.
19:56We have added the initial letter and number of letters
19:58of the shared word as additional clues.
20:01Please work out, if you don't mind, the missing words.
20:05Thank you very much indeed.
20:06OK, here is our first board of six clues.
20:45There we are.
20:46Well, this is fun, isn't it, Annie?
20:48Yes.
20:49This is fun.
20:51I wonder which of those you are going to go for.
20:56I'm going to go for the third one and I'm going to go for docks.
20:59Docks, says Annie.
21:01Shall we see how many of our 100 said docks?
21:05Docks is absolutely right.
21:10It's a good answer.
21:11It's a very good answer.
21:12Down it goes to nine, single figures indeed.
21:14Annie, well done.
21:15Nine.
21:16Well done.
21:16Apparently steam engines were still used around Falmouth docks
21:19until the mid-1980s.
21:22Quite retro.
21:23But how beautiful.
21:24Beautiful.
21:25Yeah, so picturesque.
21:25Absolutely.
21:27Very nice.
21:28Now then, Sylvia.
21:30What are the shared missing words from these station names?
21:34Ash is calling me and also the bottom one, Fishguard.
21:38So I'm not sure between the two.
21:41I'll go for the bottom one and say Harbour.
21:43Harbour, says Sylvia for Fishguard Larn and Newhaven.
21:48Let's see how many of our 100 people said Harbour.
21:53Harbour is right.
21:59That's 12.
22:01Another lovely low score.
22:02Very well done indeed, Sylvia.
22:04Fishguard Harbour Station is on the west coast of Wales
22:07and Larn Harbour Station is in Northern Ireland.
22:09Although both have boat services,
22:11there isn't a direct one from Larn to Fishguard.
22:14Thank you very much indeed.
22:16Now, Bob, you're the last person to have this board.
22:19Would you like to fill in all our blanks?
22:21I think the top one is Victoria.
22:24The second one down is International.
22:28The Blackpool pleasure is Beach.
22:30I'm going to try the one above, which I'm not really sure of,
22:34but it fits.
22:35I think it's Vale.
22:36Vale, says Bob.
22:38Surely.
22:38Shall we find out?
22:39Vale.
22:39How many of our 100 said that?
22:43Given that you had to guess it, I wonder if that means it's going to be a low score.
22:4712 is our high score, 9 is our low...
22:49Oh, no!
22:5022.
22:51Where's the justice at that?
22:5322 for Vale.
22:55Well, you took us through the board nicely there, Bob,
22:57and picked the lowest score left.
22:58I thought so.
22:59So, Beach, Blackpool pleasure.
23:02Cuden and Severan would have scored you 46.
23:06Up top, Victoria at 34.
23:09An international 24.
23:12Thank you very much indeed.
23:13That means we are halfway through the round.
23:15Let's have a look at those scores.
23:169.
23:16Well done, Annie.
23:17The best score of the pass.
23:18We travel from 9 to 12 where we find Sylvia and Ian,
23:21and from there up to 22 where we find Bob and Lesley.
23:24I mean, you're not massively ahead, Lesley, but you get the new board,
23:28so make sure you find a lovely low score on it.
23:30We're going to come back down the line now.
23:32Will the second players please step up to the podium?
23:37We're going to put six more trios of train station names up on the board,
23:42and here they are.
23:43Gatwick, Inverness, Stansted, A, 7.
23:48Cardiff, Exeter, Glasgow, C, 7.
23:54Blythe, Hebden, Q, B, 6.
23:59Britain, Connell, Rock, F, 5.
24:04Bristol, Ebbervale, Horridge, P, 7.
24:11Clapham, Bursko, Clandidno, J, 8.
24:17There we are.
24:19Lesley.
24:21Yes, they range from the very easy to the very challenging.
24:25I'm not sure how many there are in the middle.
24:28Blythe, Hebden, Q, Bridge?
24:32Blythe, Hebden, Q, Bridge.
24:34Shall we see if that is right?
24:35You don't get a red line because you're all the high scorers at the moment,
24:38but how many of our 100 said bridge?
24:40Certainly fits.
24:44Oh, absolutely right.
24:45Very well done indeed, Lesley.
24:48Down and down and down.
24:49That goes to 13.
24:50Very well done indeed.
24:51Taking your total up to 35.
24:54Hebden Bridge is in West Yorkshire,
24:56Q Bridge is in Greater London and Blythe Bridge is in Staffordshire.
24:59OK, thank you very much indeed.
25:01Ian, Ian B.
25:03You're on 12, by the way,
25:04which means a score of 22 or less gets you into the head-to-head.
25:08I don't think I'm going to get that.
25:10And the ones that immediately come to mind are the top one
25:12and the bottom one, which I think are going to be high.
25:16I think I'm going to have to plump for the bottom one at Junction.
25:19OK, you're going to go for Junction.
25:21Junction.
25:22Here is your red line.
25:24You do get one of these.
25:25Let's see what happens when we say Junction.
25:3437 for Junction, taking your total up to 49.
25:39Burskow Junction in Lancashire opened in 1849
25:42and by 1914 over 100 trains per day called there.
25:47Now it is about 34 per day.
25:50Thank you very much.
25:52Now then, Ian M.
25:54You are on 9.
25:5539 or less gets you into the next round.
25:59Do you want to talk us through the board?
26:01Yes.
26:02The top one is Airport.
26:04The next one is Central.
26:05I don't know what the F is, but I'm going to go for Bristol, Ebbevale and Horwich.
26:13Parkway.
26:15Parkway.
26:16Parkway, says Ian M.
26:18Here is your red line.
26:20Can we get you below that red line with Parkway?
26:26Parkway is absolutely right.
26:30And it gets you through to the head-to-head.
26:31Very well done indeed.
26:3219 is what it scores.
26:33Takes your total up to 28.
26:35I mean, for goodness sake, I was so struggling with that.
26:38Parkway, my local station's Parkway.
26:40Come on.
26:41I could travel every morning.
26:42Shame on you.
26:43Do you know the one that Ian M. couldn't guess?
26:45What, the F?
26:47The F.
26:48Um...
26:49I'm going to leave you hanging for a second.
26:51OK, let's go through.
26:52Airport.
26:5241.
26:53Up the top.
26:55Yep.
26:56Central.
26:5733.
26:59And...
27:01Rock.
27:02Ferry.
27:03Rock Ferry.
27:04Very good.
27:05I do know that.
27:05Would have scored you four.
27:07Ah.
27:08That was the one.
27:09There we go.
27:10Thank you very much indeed, Angela.
27:12That brings us to the end of our second round.
27:14And it means we have to say goodbye to Ian B and Sylvia.
27:16It's been lovely having you on the show.
27:17We look forward to seeing you next time.
27:19Well, I'm sure we will go much further.
27:21But, uh, thank you so much for playing.
27:22Ian B, Sylvia.
27:24But for our two remaining pairs, now time for the Head to Head.
27:33Well, huge congratulations, Annie and Ian, Lesley and Bob.
27:36You are now one step closer to the final and a chance to play for our jackpot,
27:40which currently stands at £1,000.
27:43However, before we play the Head to Head,
27:45we have a little opportunity to throw some more money into that jackpot
27:48by seeing if we can find a couple of pointless answers.
27:50So here goes, just for fun.
27:52We gave 100 people 100 seconds to name as many books by sports stars as they could, Angela.
28:01You will see six options, lots of smiles.
28:04Two are scoring, two are pointless and two are not books by sports stars at all.
28:08£250 in the jackpot for each pointless answer.
28:11Thank you very much indeed.
28:13So can you find the pointless books by sports stars from these six?
28:18And I give you Loose Head, Blood Sweat and Tyres, You Have the Power, Behind the Mask, The Breakfast Club
28:27Adventures and Closed.
28:31Does anybody know anything?
28:32Absolutely nothing.
28:33Nothing at all.
28:34OK, in which case, Ian and Annie, we come to you.
28:38Cheers, Dan.
28:38I'm guessing that You Have the Power will be something about darts.
28:42I think you're Phil Taylor.
28:43So I'm going for You Have the Power.
28:44OK.
28:45Shall we go for You Have the Power?
28:47Is that a pointless sports book?
28:51Definitely a book by a sports personality.
28:58Oh, one!
29:00One person got that.
29:03Now then, Leslie and Bob.
29:05I just like Blood Sweat and Tyres.
29:08Shall we?
29:09Blood Sweat and Tyres.
29:10Is that a pointless book by a sports star?
29:14Oh, no!
29:15Oh, but I'm with you every inch of the way.
29:18That's a terrific title.
29:19You were close.
29:21You Have the Power, Find Your Strength and Believe You Can
29:23is by the Euros winning captain of the Lionesses, Leah Williamson.
29:27And that scored one.
29:29Blood Sweat and Tyres.
29:30It's not by a motorsport star.
29:32It's actually the title of a book by the hairy bikers.
29:35Yeah, tricky one there.
29:37Behind the Mask is an autobiography by Tyson Fury.
29:42Would have got you three.
29:44The Breakfast Club Adventures.
29:47The Beast Beyond the Fence was the first of a series by Marcus Rashford.
29:51It was a pointless answer.
29:53And there was another pointless answer up there.
29:55Loosehead.
29:55Loosehead, exactly.
29:57Loosehead, Confessions of an Unprofessional Rugby Player is by Joe Marlar.
30:00And then there was another red herring chucked in the bottom.
30:02Andre Agassiz.
30:04Hugely successful autobiography is titled Open,
30:07but there is no book titled Closed, written by a sports star.
30:10Thank you very much indeed.
30:12And we didn't find any pointless answers,
30:13so let us move straight on to the head-to-head.
30:21Now, the first pair for two questions will be playing for that jackpot.
30:23You're now allowed to confer before you give your answers.
30:25Best of luck to both pairs.
30:27Here is our first question.
30:29And it is all about...
30:31People wearing florals, Angela.
30:34My fave.
30:35We are about to show you five images of people wearing outfits
30:37that feature floral patterns.
30:39Please tell us who the flowery people are.
30:41Thank you very much indeed.
30:42Let's reveal our five floral folk.
30:45Let's look.
30:46A.
30:52B.
30:57C.
31:01D.
31:06And E.
31:13There we are.
31:14Now, Annie and Ian, you are our low scorers.
31:16You get to go first.
31:17Who would you like to go for?
31:18What do you think?
31:19I don't know who knew this.
31:20Shall I do the last one?
31:21I'm going to go for Dwayne Johnson.
31:23OK.
31:24For?
31:25E.
31:25For E.
31:26OK, Dwayne Johnson for E.
31:29Leslie and Bob, can you talk us through the rest of that board?
31:32No.
31:32No, we really can't.
31:35Is B Catherine Ryan?
31:38OK, you're going to say B Catherine Ryan.
31:41Catherine Ryan.
31:42OK, so we have Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Ryan.
31:45Annie and Ian are saying Dwayne Johnson for E.
31:49Shall we see how many of our 100 said Dwayne Johnson?
31:53Dwayne Johnson is right.
31:5673 is what it scores.
31:58Meanwhile, Leslie and Bob are going for Catherine Ryan for B.
32:03Shall we see how many of our 100 said Catherine Ryan?
32:08No, not Catherine Ryan, which means, Annie and Ian,
32:11after one question, you are up 1-0.
32:13So that was not Catherine Ryan, but Kim Kardashian.
32:18Of course it is.
32:19This outfit went viral.
32:20She wore to the Met Gala.
32:21It was memes all over the place.
32:23She was compared to a sofa.
32:26And that scored 40.
32:27Nile Rodgers, co-founder of Sheik, who has written and produced
32:31some of the most popular songs in history.
32:32That would have scored you 11.
32:34Fantastic suit.
32:36Bella Ramsey, best known from Game of Thrones.
32:39They scored five points.
32:42And that leaves A.
32:46Dougie Poynter, the bassist of Band McFly.
32:49And that was a pointless answer.
32:52There we are.
32:53Brilliant.
32:54Thank you very much indeed, Angela.
32:55OK, here comes your second question.
32:57Lesley and Bob, you get to answer it first, but you have to win this one.
32:59Stay in the game.
33:00So good luck.
33:00Our second question is all about...
33:04..things you can do backwards.
33:06Angela.
33:07We're going to show you a board of five things that can be done
33:09while going backwards, or with your back to something,
33:13but with the letters of each word in reverse alphabetical order.
33:16So going from Z to A.
33:18Please give us the activity you believe the fewest of our 100 people knew.
33:23OK, so things you can do backwards, but spelt as anagrams,
33:27but in reverse alphabetical order, if that makes sense.
33:30So here they are.
33:31We have...
33:49OK.
33:51Lesley and Bob, what are we thinking?
33:58The third one, backstroke swimming.
34:01Backstroke swimming, yes, or more normally, swimming backstroke.
34:05I thought we had to do it backwards.
34:06Oh, I see what you mean.
34:07Well, yes, I mean, there are so many things going backwards
34:09that I can't blame you for losing track.
34:12Annie and Ian, can you talk us through the board?
34:15We think the first one is rowing.
34:17We think the bottom one is tug of war.
34:20But the one we're going to go for is the second one, judging on the voice.
34:24Judging on the voice, say Annie and Ian.
34:28So we have swimming backstroke and we have judging on the voice.
34:32Lesley and Bob have gone for swimming backstroke.
34:34Should we see how many of our 100 said that?
34:40Swimming backstroke is right.
34:44That's a good answer, 20.
34:47Meanwhile, Annie and Ian have gone for judging on the voice.
34:52Should we see how many of our 100 said that?
34:56Judging on the voice is absolutely right.
35:00And it wins it for you.
35:02Look at that.
35:02Danny goes to 10.
35:03Very well done indeed.
35:04Annie and Ian, after only two questions,
35:06you're straight through to the final 2-0.
35:10Tug of war.
35:11You got it right.
35:1242.
35:13It would have gotten you rowing.
35:1515 up the top.
35:17Any ideas, Andrew, for the last one?
35:19Well, it's throwing something bouquet.
35:21So it's a...
35:22Wedding bouquet.
35:23Wedding bouquet.
35:24Wedding bouquet.
35:25Oh, my goodness.
35:26One.
35:28One.
35:28That would have got you.
35:30Marvellous.
35:30There we go.
35:31Thank you very much indeed.
35:32I enjoyed that one.
35:33So did I.
35:34In fact, all of the rounds today.
35:36I mean, they're always good.
35:37But today is particularly enjoyable.
35:39That means the pair leaving us at the end of that round.
35:41Leslie and Bob.
35:43Oh, no.
35:44And this is the end of your pointless run.
35:46I'm so sorry.
35:47It's been really, really brilliant having you on.
35:48Thank you so much.
35:49It's been really good.
35:50Fabulous contestants.
35:51Leslie and Bob.
35:52For Annie and Ian, though, it's now time for the pointless final.
35:59Congratulations, Annie and Ian.
36:01You've fought off all the competition and you have won our coveted pointless trophy.
36:11You now have a chance to win the pointless jackpot.
36:14And at the end of today's show, the jackpot is standing at £1,000.
36:18Well, we just need a pointless answer from you.
36:20So it all boils down to whatever category comes on the board.
36:24What would you like to see come up?
36:27I'd like to see something about the history of Yorkshire pottery
36:31from about 1826 through to about 1842.
36:35What a lovely niche interest.
36:36I would so love it if Yorkshire pottery came up.
36:39I mean, the chances are slim, but...
36:41But...
36:42But they're slim for any of these ridiculous things we see on that.
36:45Well, exactly.
36:46Annie, how about you?
36:47I suppose anything foodie or geography.
36:51OK.
36:51Well, there we are.
36:52We've got some bases covered and I'm sure there'll be plenty others
36:54you haven't mentioned.
36:56But today's little selection is...
37:00Female rappers, Andy Murray, TV series starring Jason Bateman and Sculpture.
37:10What do we think?
37:12Well, I...
37:13I would...
37:14No, we could do the first one.
37:16I was thinking Sculptor.
37:18Andy Murray.
37:19No.
37:20Oh, what do you think?
37:21I'm not very good.
37:22OK.
37:23Right.
37:24Jason Bateman.
37:25That's not going to work.
37:26No.
37:27Sculpture, please.
37:28Shall we go Sculpture?
37:29Sculpture, Angela.
37:31So, we are looking for the name of any artist or sculptor whose work is listed as being
37:36on display outdoors at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, according to their Art Outdoors finder page,
37:43as of 8 October 2024, or we're looking for the name of any artist who has had a work of
37:50art exhibited on the otherwise empty fourth plinth of London's Trafalgar Square.
37:55That's from 1999 up to and including October 2024.
38:01Very best of luck.
38:02Thank you very much indeed.
38:03Now, as always, you've got up to one minute to come up with three answers.
38:06All you need to win that jackpot is for just one of those answers to be pointless.
38:11Are you ready?
38:13Excellent.
38:13Let's put 60 seconds up on the clock.
38:15There they are.
38:16Your time starts now.
38:18Penny Moore.
38:19Yes.
38:20I'm with Gormley.
38:22Oh, yes.
38:23That's Gormley.
38:24I'm with Gormley.
38:24What about...
38:25What is he called?
38:26Ai Ai.
38:27It's called Ai Ai, the man, the Chinese man.
38:30Sorry.
38:31What's the woman that's the same time as Moore?
38:34Is it the...
38:36There's...
38:36Hepworth.
38:37Hepworth.
38:37Yeah, that's right.
38:38Yes.
38:40And there's someone who had the same name as an England football man.
38:42What about Rhoda?
38:45That would probably be...
38:47Um...
38:48Gosh.
38:50Um...
38:50Um...
38:51Um...
38:51Um...
38:52Um...
38:52Um...
38:53Is it Ai?
38:54Wait, wait, wait.
38:55Oh, hang on a minute.
38:56Hang on a minute.
38:57Jagger.
38:58Jack, what's his first name?
38:59I don't know.
38:59Who's the orchardman?
39:01Yeah.
39:02Mr.
39:07Um...
39:07Ten seconds left.
39:08OK, OK.
39:10Oh, God.
39:11No, I think you might as well stop.
39:14OK, but you've got your answers.
39:16Well, yes.
39:17OK, well, our minute is up.
39:18The lights are back on.
39:20Um, what three answers can you give me?
39:23Barbara Hepworth.
39:24Barbara Hepworth.
39:25For the first or second?
39:27Oh, I'm so sorry.
39:28Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
39:29OK, for the first category.
39:31Barbara Hepworth.
39:32Ai Weiwei.
39:32Ai Weiwei.
39:33For the first one.
39:36And...
39:36What do you think?
39:37Moore?
39:38Yeah, Henry Moore.
39:39Well, yeah, but it's in there.
39:41Anthony Gormley.
39:42And Anthony Gormley.
39:43Of those three, which is your best shot at a pointless answer?
39:46If Ai Weiwei is right...
39:47Ai Weiwei will put last.
39:48Least likely to be pointless?
39:50Barbara Hepworth.
39:51Barbara Hepworth.
39:52And then Anthony Gormley goes in the middle.
39:54So, Barbara Hepworth, Anthony Gormley, Ai Weiwei.
39:56OK, well, let's put those answers up on the board in that order.
39:59And here they are.
40:01We have Barbara Hepworth, Anthony Gormley and Ai Weiwei.
40:06Well, if one of these turns out to be pointless,
40:07you'll be leaving here with £1,000.
40:10What would you like to do with that, I wonder?
40:13I would buy a guitar.
40:15Another guitar, I think, is the answer to that one.
40:17Another guitar, says Annie Wearily.
40:19What would you like to do with it?
40:20I suspect I'm going to have to give my half to him to buy the guitar.
40:23Oh, no, come on.
40:25But maybe you'll get some lovely music in return.
40:27Absolutely.
40:28Maybe.
40:28She will serenade me.
40:29Well, there we are.
40:31OK.
40:31Now, your first answer is Barbara Hepworth.
40:32In all three cases, we are looking for sculptors with works on display
40:36at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
40:37You have gone for Barbara Hepworth.
40:39Let's see how many of our 100 people said that for £1,000.
40:42Might she be pointless?
40:45Barbara Hepworth, absolutely right.
40:50Down we go.
40:51Through the 30s, if Barbara Hepworth is pointless,
40:53you leave here with £1,000.
40:55We're into single figures with Barbara Hepworth to six.
40:57OK, six.
40:57Not bad.
40:59Not bad.
41:00Your next answer was Anthony Gormley.
41:02Shall we find out how many of our 100 people said Anthony Gormley?
41:09Well, Anthony Gormley, absolutely right.
41:13Down we go.
41:14We stopped at six with Barbara Hepworth.
41:15Down we go with Anthony Gormley through the teens.
41:18Still going down with Anthony Gormley to...
41:19Five.
41:21OK, five for Anthony Gormley.
41:24Aye Weiwei.
41:25Took you a little while to remember exactly what his name was, but you got it.
41:29Shall we find out if Aye Weiwei is a pointless answer?
41:32This is the one you thought was your best shot at a pointless.
41:34Let's see.
41:35For £1,000, how many people said Aye Weiwei?
41:40Ah, no.
41:41Bad luck.
41:42Bad luck.
41:43I'm so sorry.
41:44Well, that was very good though.
41:46Two very low scores there.
41:47But I'm afraid you didn't find the all-important pointless answer,
41:50so I'm afraid you don't win today's jackpot.
41:51However, very deservedly, you do win today's pointless trophies.
41:55So, fantastic work there, Annie.
41:57And Ian?
41:58Aye Weiwei has been in a sculpture park,
42:00but he's not got anything in there at the moment,
42:03so hard luck on that one.
42:04Let's have a look at some of the pointless answers,
42:06starting with Sculptors with Works at Yorkshire's Sculpture Park.
42:11Anthony Caro, Elizabeth Frink,
42:14Katrina Palmer,
42:15Robert Indiana,
42:16in fact everyone was pointless apart from those you mentioned,
42:20and Damien Hirst and Daniel Arsham.
42:23Moving on to artists exhibited on the fourth plinth of Trafalgar Square.
42:28Katerina Fritsch,
42:30a huge sculpture of a bright blue cockerel,
42:33if you remember that.
42:33Mark Quinn,
42:34who had a sculpture of artist Alison Lapper Pregnant on the plinth.
42:39Theresa Margoiaz,
42:40who displayed casts of the faces of transgender people.
42:44And Yinka Shonabari,
42:45who displayed a replica of HMS victory in a bottle.
42:49The only scoring answers here were Anthony Gormley again.
42:53Mark Wallinger,
42:54Rachel Whiteread,
42:56and Samson Kambaloo.
42:57Very well done at home if you got a pointless answer.
43:01Thank you very much indeed, Angela.
43:03And thank you so much, Annie and Ian.
43:04I'm sorry you didn't win our jackpot today.
43:06That will therefore roll over onto the next show,
43:08when we will be playing for £2,000.
43:12Join us then to see if someone can win it.
43:14Meanwhile, it's goodbye from Angela.
43:16Bye.
43:17And it's goodbye from me.
43:18Goodbye.
