00:00So hello everyone, welcome to ANS and congratulations for second season of Inspector Vinash that's about to release.
00:05My first question is for the captain of the ship.
00:08I heard the season was shot much earlier than this year.
00:12But then the market changes, the taste of the audience changes.
00:17To incorporate all of that and to package it into something of the contemporary times,
00:22what does it take for you as a storyteller to tell this story in a large distance to the audience?
00:26See, first season में already लोग इन कारेक्टर्स को इस काहानी को एक्सेप्ट कर चुके थे.
00:33And they were eagerly waiting for it.
00:44And in the first season,
01:00So they want to see it again, the same flavor.
01:03So I can change something, then I can't change something, but I can't do it.
01:05So I haven't done anything like that.
01:07So I can multiply by two, four, whatever you want.
01:13And in the second season, I am saying that the first season was interval point.
01:43And I guess people will love it.
01:45I am sure.
01:47And Randeep sir, I have heard in this season the story dwells into more of personal spaces
01:52of all the characters, not just your character.
01:54If you could help me with the character arc of your particular character in this show, in
02:00the second season in particular, what's the way that he navigates professional world and
02:04his personal world?
02:06As Neesvai said, the stakes go higher in this season as the story progresses,
02:14stakes in terms of Avinash being cornered by the villains and the villain's power is revealed and how they corner
02:25him at the same time on a personal level.
02:27His family is also in all sorts of danger and there is a rift between him and the families on
02:35the verge of being torn apart.
02:37So the personal stakes are also very high.
02:40Then to how to get out of it, we find Inspector Avinash surrounded by adversity and how he goes through
02:48it.
02:48How he perseveres through it is what the story is and the action quotient also goes up.
02:55But this time the action quotient is so filled with all the emotion of the last season and this and
03:01culminating into a climatic moment of action is very, very satisfying and enjoyable.
03:10And I think, as you said, the personal life of behind the scenes of a police officer who's involved in
03:19all such things,
03:20what turn that does take and what toll does it take is what the second season is about.
03:26And I found that it is one of my most charming, entertaining as well as larger-than-life characters I
03:35have played
03:36because of Neesvai's adaptation of the real life of Inspector Avinash Mishra
03:43who I had the good fortune to spend a lot of time with and get a lot of things from
03:47him,
03:48whether it is mannerisms or his accent or his way of dealing with people.
03:53So it's one of my most enjoyable characters that I have done
03:56and I am so glad that our first season was so widely loved and so eager for people to see
04:04the second part
04:04that it is just sheer excitement that we get to share with the people who love it so much and
04:11more who will join in.
04:14And Freddie, for your character of a home minister,
04:18now he's that person who looks after the entire law and order machinery of the country.
04:23He's responsible for formatting the STF and everything and that's how the story progresses forward.
04:28To have a director like him who's so receptive, so observant,
04:32what were your jamming sessions were like with him?
04:35What was the exchange of ideas between the two of you like?
04:39Well, him being the writer and the director helped me a lot
04:44because when he was writing the character,
04:46he actually knew the ups and downs and the intrinsic part of the characters.
04:50So when we were together and I would get confused about certain things,
04:54he would come and clarify it.
04:56Now there are so many things that you can't show,
04:58but when the scene jumps from one place to another place,
05:02he could come and tell me the journey that he may have had
05:06during this entire course of action.
05:09And it's written so beautifully and the season 1 ended on a so contrasting part
05:16that this character of mine, Veer,
05:19he found STF to stop the weapon cart.
05:24And by the end of season 1, you have found truckloads of weapon in his own house.
05:29So that has created more curiosity in the audience about why is it.
05:35And when I was playing that part, I was like,
05:38what is this?
05:38You know, what is it?
05:39And then I explained that whole entire thing.
05:42So it always helps.
05:43So my first preference is always the directors
05:46who are the writers of that particular content also that they are directing.
05:50And I was lucky enough to get him.
05:53What compels you to pick and choose to work with such directors or the writers as well?
05:59Sometimes beggars are not choosers.
06:01No, jokes apart.
06:03What excites me is one of these things that I prefer directors
06:07who are also the writers of that particular film or the show that they are doing.
06:13I had never played a politician earlier.
06:15So that was a plus point for me.
06:17Plus he was ready to work during,
06:20I mean he had come to me,
06:22he had come to,
06:23he had gone to everyone during Covid time
06:25where people had no work,
06:27just sitting at home,
06:28dying to work,
06:30even say a line in front of the camera.
06:31And at that point of time,
06:32somebody who is initiating
06:35and ready to take this responsibility
06:37was a great success in its own way for the entire industry
06:42and for all the actors who worked on the show.
06:47So, I think it was only a win-win situation.
06:50Plus he had all my favourite actors in it
06:53and my friends,
06:54you know, some of them.
06:56So, yeah,
06:56it was a win-win situation for me.
06:57Okay.
06:58And Neerath, sir,
06:59to have an actor like him,
07:00till the time he is delivering dialogues,
07:02you are fully there.
07:03But once he goes silent on the camera,
07:05it is wherein all your senses are with him,
07:08through and through.
07:09To have an accomplished actor like him,
07:11who uses silence brilliantly in his work.
07:14What was that like for you to explore?
07:16What was that like for you to explore?
07:19That when you write a good story
07:22and in your vision,
07:24there is an actor to do it.
07:27And when he comes to it,
07:29I can say that he has spoiled me.
07:32Actually,
07:33that when I am casting someone
07:35and I think I am doing it,
07:36and I think I am thinking about it.
07:39who will give this dedication?
07:40Who will give this dedication?
07:41Who will do so good?
07:42So,
07:43it was an effortless combination with me.
07:46Very effortless.
07:48Writing material,
07:50good actors.
07:51I have a very good actor
07:54besides Sanipa Ji,
07:56Irfan Khan.
07:58Irfan Khan,
07:58my bond from Irfan Khan
08:00was made in the years.
08:02We had a television show before.
08:04And then,
08:04we had a television show.
08:06It was a television show.
08:08It was a television show.
08:08It was a television show.
08:10It was a television show.
08:12It was 26 episodes.
08:13I had directed it.
08:14Then,
08:14I promised him to make a film
08:15so I will take it.
08:16I said,
08:17you will forget.
08:18But,
08:18when I made a film with
08:20Sanipa Ji,
08:20then Irfan was made.
08:22So,
08:22the enjoyment of Irfan
08:24was made with them.
08:26The enjoyment of Irfan,
08:34I am doing it.
08:34I am doing it.
08:35Okay.
08:36This is why,
08:36the habit of Irfan Khan
08:36was made.
08:37Now,
08:38when I am doing it,
08:39I am doing it.
08:40In terms of craft,
08:42not as other thing,
08:43I have to push and inspire
08:45to get there.
08:47So,
08:49Randeep was an asset for me,
08:51for this character,
08:54Abhinash.
08:54In the second season,
08:58Abhinash Mishra Ji,
08:59once again,
08:59Abhinash Mishra Ji,
08:59once again,
09:00Neeraj Babu,
09:01you have to take Randeep
09:02and take my character
09:04to my character.
09:05People don't say,
09:07Abhinash Ji,
09:08who are on the stage,
09:09who are on the stage,
09:09they say,
09:10Guru Ji.
09:12And one thing was famous,
09:13Guru Ji,
09:14is the force,
09:14the force,
09:15the force.
09:15So,
09:15even,
09:16the whole team,
09:16now,
09:16we were all together.
09:17They were in tears,
09:21and they were saying,
09:22what have you created?
09:23So,
09:24I said,
09:24I didn't create it.
09:28Because,
09:29the way of Randeep
09:30took the challenge.
09:31Okay?
09:32Writer, director,
09:33he can do so much,
09:34that he can inspire.
09:36He can bring you to the character.
09:38But,
09:38the character's soul
09:40and his soul
09:41can reach people to the people.
09:44100%.
09:44Toh,
09:45mere liye,
09:45toh,
09:45ye khajana tha.
09:46Iske liye,
09:47may itanayi kehta hou,
09:48ki jay mahakal,
09:49jay badran bali,
09:50that I got him here.
09:51I got you as a director,
09:54the writing was so good.
09:55I think it's one of,
09:57it is the best writing
09:59I have seen in the longer format.
10:02I have read many scripts
10:03and I have done only one more
10:05and not done many of them
10:07because of the lack of,
10:08that punch in the writing.
10:11And I think it's very well written show
10:13and I am very grateful
10:14that I am a part of it.
10:16And when these are coming to you,
10:18there are very few actors
10:19who are multidimensional.
10:20You are one of them.
10:22Beyond acting,
10:23you are engaged in sports
10:24as well horse riding.
10:25You have a very strong sense
10:26of social justice
10:27to do something for the society,
10:29to give back to the engineers,
10:30to drive and everything.
10:32I want to ask about
10:34the concept of rhythm
10:35in your life as an actor
10:36because when you are horse riding
10:37as an equestrian,
10:39there is a certain rhythm,
10:40they are galloping,
10:40trotting and everything,
10:41cantering.
10:43While acting,
10:44it's more,
10:45it has got more to do
10:45with the breathing pattern,
10:46the rhythm of your breathing pattern,
10:47how you are delivering
10:48your dialogues and everything.
10:50What's the concept of rhythm
10:51for you like as actor,
10:52as an artist?
10:53I think rhythm is very important
10:58in everything
10:58and you are right,
10:59acting also has a rhythm
11:01and you have to find that
11:02rhythm for different characters
11:04is a different rhythm.
11:05Okay.
11:06And not that I pay too much
11:08attention to it,
11:09but it does have to go
11:10do with breathing
11:11and so with riding,
11:13so with many other things.
11:14I think I have disrupted
11:18my own rhythm
11:19many, many times
11:20that in itself
11:22the disruption of rhythm
11:24has become the rhythm
11:26of my life.
11:26Out of 25 years
11:27that I have been an actor
11:29now professionally.
11:30I have not been on a set
11:32for 11,
11:32maybe 12 years.
11:33What even more
11:34a single day?
11:35And that disruption
11:37has led to a sense
11:38of hunger
11:40and a sense of,
11:43you know,
11:45coming back to zero again
11:47and to come back again.
11:49So I think that rhythm
11:50has helped me a lot
11:52with being able to,
11:55you know,
11:56still be interesting
11:57for filmmakers
11:58who want to cast you
12:00in different things
12:01which they have not seen you
12:02before.
12:03And,
12:05you know,
12:05the disruption of rhythm.
12:07But I now,
12:08I feel like I should get
12:09into rhythm
12:09and not let that disrupt
12:11for some time.
12:12And work a bit more.
12:15But yeah,
12:16you are right.
12:16There is a rhythm in everything.
12:19Yeah.
12:20And Neerath sir,
12:21when you have an actor
12:22like Freddie,
12:23he speaks through his eyes.
12:25When he is there in the frame
12:26in close-up shots,
12:27you could see,
12:27you know,
12:28attention building up
12:29and everything.
12:29The way he emotes
12:30he expresses with his eyes.
12:33Does it take a lot
12:33to extract that from him
12:35as an actor?
12:35Does it come naturally to him?
12:36See,
12:37he is a very honest guy.
12:38His biggest plus point
12:40is that he is grounded
12:41and honest.
12:42He has a quality
12:42in very few actors.
12:44Either they are burdened
12:45with their own intellect
12:47and their own way
12:49they want to present.
12:50His biggest plus point
12:51was that he cast
12:52was the biggest thing
12:54that he wanted
12:54a charming,
12:55dynamic,
12:56good-looking guy
12:57who looked at him
12:59and said,
12:59he is right
13:01but the man
13:02also said,
13:02he is like this.
13:03Because,
13:04the character
13:04he is a very charming
13:07home minister
13:07and youngest one.
13:08Okay?
13:09And royalty too.
13:10So,
13:10in my mind,
13:11this is set
13:13though that time
13:14money was less
13:15because character
13:16was very low.
13:17But I want to thank him
13:18that he didn't see money.
13:20Okay?
13:21And he saw that
13:22the passion of the director.
13:24He saw the character
13:25the way I wanted him.
13:27Now,
13:27we have created
13:28a long-lasting relation.
13:29Okay?
13:30So,
13:30I always say this
13:31and I always say
13:33that you have
13:34great potential.
13:35Okay?
13:36Like,
13:36Randeep's acting
13:37epitome.
13:38So,
13:38I want to reach that level
13:39and he has a long way
13:42to go.
13:43But,
13:43when you are a great guy
13:44in heart
13:45and you listen to the director
13:46or the script
13:47character,
13:48you will give a great performance.
13:50So,
13:51in this case,
13:52he could make his mark.
13:55When I go,
13:57people ask
13:57especially girls,
13:59they ask him
13:59about him.
14:01So,
14:01that's why
14:01he had a big charming way.
14:03He wanted a maturity
14:04to the character.
14:05He also played.
14:08In that,
14:09he was not a manipulator guy.
14:11But,
14:11through the journey,
14:12he understands that
14:13as a politician,
14:14I need to manipulate
14:15my position.
14:16So, slowly, slowly,
14:17his character goes.
14:18And,
14:19beside that,
14:20the charm
14:21nobody can resist.
14:22Toh,
14:22which is the most talked about.
14:26Which will not talk here.
14:27Let the people see.
14:29Absolutely.
14:32And,
14:33coming to you,
14:34as a power structure
14:35politicians are up there
14:37in the society.
14:37You know,
14:38they make the policies
14:39for the nation,
14:39for the society that,
14:40in the end,
14:41go to the last mile town.
14:43While portraying a character
14:44of a home minister,
14:46does at any point
14:46a sense of responsibility
14:47kick-in,
14:48that,
14:48I have to do this
14:49and say,
14:50things might go here
14:51and there.
14:52Or,
14:52it might not create that impact
14:53cinematically.
14:54See,
14:56if I talk about this one
14:58particular show,
14:59Inspector Avinash,
15:00the beauty of
15:01this show is also,
15:03that you cannot figure out
15:05whether it is Avinash
15:07or his team
15:08or the political side,
15:10any character,
15:12you cannot judge them
15:14whether they are right
15:15or wrong.
15:16and that's how
15:17each and every politician,
15:18that's how each and every
15:19government servant is.
15:21Yeah.
15:21Their job
15:22is to think
15:23on a larger scale.
15:25So,
15:27responsible
15:27rehna chahiye,
15:28lekin,
15:29that was not my job.
15:30Neerat sir had already
15:31written a character
15:32which was so flamboyant,
15:34so nice
15:35and so layered
15:36at the same time.
15:37He was making a show,
15:38he was not making a documentary
15:39about a politician
15:41or about a cop,
15:43you know.
15:44So,
15:44within that periphery
15:47to write a character
15:48which is interesting
15:49and yet so true
15:51to his motive
15:52in that whole entire story,
15:55that only a seasoned writer
15:57and that only a seasoned actor
15:58can play it very well.
16:00And when they are synergized,
16:02when they are synchronized
16:03in each other
16:04and with their characters,
16:06is only when a show
16:07like Inspector Avinash
16:08can take place.
16:09So,
16:10whether it is my character
16:11or Avinash's character
16:12or anybody,
16:13any character
16:14for that sake.
16:15He has written it
16:16very nicely
16:17and when I was playing it,
16:19I was like,
16:19okay,
16:20this is it
16:21but,
16:22it is,
16:23my job is not to justify
16:24the character.
16:25My job is to play
16:26the character.
16:27We will leave it upon
16:28the audience to judge it,
16:29whether he is right or wrong.
16:30Okay.
16:31And for my last question,
16:32Rajeeb sir,
16:35you used to look for disruption
16:36in the rhythm.
16:37Now,
16:38disruption also means
16:39letting go,
16:40letting go of
16:41a certain sense of control
16:43which is again very interesting
16:44because that is what you do
16:45when you are a horse rider.
16:46You know,
16:47you have to trust your partner
16:48and this,
16:49you have to let go certain control.
16:51In acting as well,
16:52you have to trust your co-actors,
16:54your co-creators,
16:54collaborators
16:56to trust them to
16:57do their part
16:58in full justification.
17:01what is that for you,
17:03like that process of letting go
17:04of control
17:04or sense of detachment
17:06in general?
17:07I think
17:08we are not very much
17:10in control of our lives
17:11and our journey.
17:13We make choices
17:13and all our choices
17:15are half chances really.
17:17And,
17:18in my career
17:20I worked with many,
17:21many first time directors
17:23who,
17:23you know,
17:24have got that enthusiasm
17:25and something to prove
17:27and stuff like that
17:28and enjoy that as well.
17:32I didn't quite understand
17:34your question really.
17:35The sense of losing control
17:36or sense of detachment
17:37as an actor?
17:38Well,
17:38you have to,
17:39like even when you prepare
17:40for a character,
17:41no matter what you do
17:41in your room
17:42or in your hotel room
17:44or your home
17:45or whatever,
17:45you have got to go there
17:46and not have any preconceived notions.
17:49You don't have to see
17:50what the other actors are doing,
17:52you don't have to
17:53kind of know
17:54where the director
17:55is going to set up the shot
17:56or what is it going to be.
17:57You go there
17:58and you react to it
17:59and you not only
18:00trust the people
18:01but you have to,
18:02you only trust
18:03other people,
18:04your co-conspirators,
18:06only when you can
18:07trust yourself.
18:08Yeah.
18:09So,
18:09you have to trust yourself,
18:11you have to let go
18:11of all the prep
18:12and you have to just
18:13be in that moment
18:14and enjoy it
18:14and,
18:16you should always have
18:17that thing of,
18:18you know,
18:19that I hope I do not
18:21betray the trust
18:22of the people
18:22who are with me
18:23and that in itself
18:25takes you along
18:26a long way
18:27and,
18:28yeah,
18:29but,
18:30as,
18:30as artists,
18:31as actors especially,
18:32I am,
18:32as a director,
18:33I was very sure
18:34of everything.
18:35As an actor,
18:36I am never very sure
18:37of anything
18:38but that is human life.
18:39When we came here,
18:41I was not sure
18:41how this interview
18:42is going to go
18:42or what is he going to say
18:43or where is going to be,
18:45it's going to be this hot.
18:46So,
18:48that's what you leave it
18:49to something
18:50and,
18:51and,
18:52it works out usually.
18:54Okay.
18:54Okay.
18:55And my final question
18:56is for the director.
18:57When you make a show
18:58like this,
18:59where our stakes so high
19:00and then you have
19:01these two gentlemen
19:02who have their own
19:03sense of humour,
19:04a different flavour
19:05of sense of humour.
19:06What is the environmental
19:07set like on a normal
19:08given day?
19:08If I walk into the set
19:09of Inspector Avinash,
19:10what will I see?
19:11Fun.
19:12Fashion,
19:14dedication
19:16and overall,
19:17a rhythm
19:18which you are talking.
19:19So,
19:19it's all,
19:20see,
19:21when I go there
19:22on the set,
19:24I have done
19:25all the homework
19:25of writing.
19:27As for the shot
19:28designing
19:29and the designing
19:30the location,
19:31all the great masters
19:33of cinema
19:34have said
19:34that when you walk
19:35into the set,
19:36it speaks to you.
19:38It tells you
19:39how to go about
19:40this scene.
19:41So,
19:41most of the time
19:42we have thought
19:43something else
19:43we have reached
19:44and I have seen
19:45some gesture
19:47of the actor
19:48and the whole scene
19:49took the side
19:50and then
19:51improvised.
19:52So,
19:52my style of working
19:53is most of the time
19:54I improvised a lot.
19:56Most of the time
19:57just behind a scene
19:58or in-case scene
19:59and the whole
20:00page of the scene
20:00we have said
20:02let's discover
20:03how we will do it.
20:04So,
20:04this scene
20:04is very
20:05very
20:05with me.
20:06I think
20:06the art
20:10is fluid
20:11and
20:12flowed.
20:13So,
20:14if I close
20:14the shot
20:15and the performance
20:16would be like
20:17this,
20:18then I will close.
20:19So,
20:19it should be limitless
20:20and the creative process
20:21is that
20:22there is
20:22a sound designer
20:26can come
20:27and tell me
20:27that the dialogue
20:28is not right.
20:29something good.
20:30No one can say
20:31and I will seriously
20:32take it
20:33and I will take it
20:35if I feel
20:36he doesn't know
20:37in which context
20:38it is being set
20:38then I will do it.
20:40So,
20:40it was a great atmosphere
20:42and fun.
20:43But we didn't
20:44prank each other.
20:45we didn't
20:45prank each other.
20:46It's an open door policy.
20:48It was a fun set.
20:51It was a fun set.
20:53It was a fun set.
20:53It was a very stressful
20:54behind the scenes
20:55stressful situation
20:57because
20:57this time
20:58we shoot
20:58this chaos
20:59we shoot
21:00it was a huge production
21:02and it was first time
21:03for my company.
21:04My company
21:05produced so big scale
21:08and I was heading
21:09three heads.
21:11You know
21:11I am a producer
21:13director
21:14and writer
21:15but yes
21:16I had a good partner
21:17Krishan Chaudhary
21:18is my partner
21:18in this
21:19so,
21:20we both producers
21:21have decided
21:23effort
21:24and on sets
21:25the team
21:26was very good.
21:27The production team
21:28was very good.
21:29But the scale
21:30and the challenges
21:31came to us
21:31and the experienced
21:33production company
21:35also changed
21:37Because it was not
21:38expected.
21:39the situation
21:40was like
21:42we were
21:44in the same
21:44situation
21:45and the line
21:46production
21:46was so screwed up
21:48that we didn't get food.
21:51We were working
21:52in the morning
21:53and we didn't have food
21:54in the morning.
21:55We didn't have food
21:55We didn't have food
21:55so we got frustration.
21:57I have been living
21:59on the side
21:59and I have been living
22:08on all sides.
22:09When I was concerned
22:09about unit
22:10he said
22:10Neeraj Bhai pack up
22:11and we went back
22:14so I immediately said
22:16okay
22:16let's go
22:17but I thought
22:18if we are going
22:19then what will happen?
22:20When will we come?
22:21When will we come?
22:22What will the production cost
22:23will happen?
22:24And I could see this
22:25as my failure
22:26as a producer
22:27so I said
22:27we will not do this
22:29we will not do this
22:29we will do this
22:30and the decision
22:32has been lost
22:33but the thing
22:34is
22:35I can say
22:37I will not do this
22:37but the challenge
22:38after all the challenges
22:38we didn't have a day
22:40we didn't have the work
22:41that we didn't have
22:41thought of
22:42as we were there
22:44in Dhawalpur
22:44and the shooting
22:45and the day
22:47all of the scenes
22:48and we were in so beautiful
22:49locations
22:50and the day
22:51and the night
22:51we couldn't shoot
22:53as a full day
22:53as a producer
22:55I was
22:55people say
22:56that they are going
22:58to shoot
22:58and I said
22:58we will shoot
22:59and I have seen
23:00the scene
23:00in the night
23:00and I have done
23:03the whole sequence
23:04that we had shoot
23:05and you can't tell
23:06that this is
23:07compromised work
23:08the reason
23:09that we had adopted
23:10and we had a lot
23:12so much
23:12we had convicted
23:13actors
23:13and we had a lot
23:15of time
23:15and we got a train
23:17and we went
23:18and when you are not
23:20able to do
23:21you have to help
23:22God
23:22and I have done
23:26like this
23:28we enjoy our work
23:29and have a lot of
23:30fun
23:30with that
23:32We have reached the end of this conversation.
23:34If you have any questions or you want to say something, then you can say something.
23:37You know.
23:38You know something for the audience.
23:39Yes.
23:39The show is coming to the 15th of May and as we have made it and as you want to
23:45see it,
23:47you will get it.
23:48So come.
23:50Do it.
23:50Do it.
23:51Do it.
23:51Do it.
23:52Do it.
23:54Perfect.
23:55So on that note, thank you so much and I wish you all the best.
