In a major reversal of the controversial 2022 hijab policy, the Karnataka government formally withdrew its earlier uniform order with immediate effect.

00:11as the state has now withdrawn its controversial 2022 uniform order.
00:15That three-year-old order was at the center of the Karnataka hijab controversy
00:19after several institution-barred students wearing hijabs from entering classrooms,
00:24triggering nationwide protests and court battles.
00:26With the order now scrapped, students in schools and colleges will be allowed to wear religious symbols
00:31and attire along with their uniforms, including hijabs, turbans, sacred threads like janeu, crosses, bindis,
00:37rosraksha beads and other faith-based identifiers.
00:40The Karnataka government has said that uniforms will continue,
00:43but personal religious expression that does not disrupt education will no longer be restricted.
