01:11So we've been working on a bike for a couple years now, and we keep tinkering with it.
01:15And finally, we had the opportunity to turn it into something really cool.
01:19So Paul decided to take what we've already started and use it and finish it up, and we're going to
01:23surprise Joan with it.
01:24So this is the bike.

01:26You can see how much dust it's on.
01:27I've been in the back room for a couple years.

01:55I met Joanie Kaye because I was looking for a dog.
02:00And through somebody else, they said, well, they know this lady that runs the shelter.

02:10And, of course, they said, well, they're going to put it down.
02:13And as soon as I heard that, it was like, no, I'll take the dog, you know.
02:16And that's pretty much how we met, you know.
02:18Then I started working at the shelter.
02:20I dropped the tree on her car.
02:23And I got her telephone number.
02:27So, yeah, dropping the tree on the car paid off.
02:34I just bought new tires and new wheels for this.

07:33But she's been close with Paul literally since they're like 18.
07:37So when I got divorced with my first wife, I started going to Gold's Gym.

08:42And he said, let's do 6.30, and I can't wait for you to meet the, uh...

08:46She wants to volunteer at the shelter.
08:48And Jimmy was probably the toughest guy I knew.
08:51Like, the truest friend I think Paul's had.
08:55And I went to the office, and, uh...
08:58I just said, okay, we'll do 6.30 at the following restaurant.
09:01Pulled away.
09:02And Stacey called me, and she said,
09:04Jimmy fell off...
09:07The deck.
09:08And I was like, what do you mean?
09:09I said, I'm on my way.
09:10And knowing Jimmy was a pretty proud guy.
09:12He was really a big dude.
09:13I thought, like, he fell, so I didn't want to call an ambulance or anything because he'd be mad.
09:20Like, he'd be really mad.
09:21Unfortunately, Jimmy had gotten a call, and he got a call from the hospital, and whatever they told him.
09:28Uh, he walked out on the deck and took his life.
09:31So I had to make that call to Stacey.
09:33So as funny and crazy and loving as Stacey is, we go deep.
09:43The amazing thing about Stacey is that they were, like, together since they were, like, 18 or 19.
09:49She's resilient.
09:51She never holds back, even when you want her to.
09:55So she's really hilarious in a lot of ways.
09:57But our relationship is deep.
09:59You know, we share.
10:02Tough times.
10:03Well, she can handle Paul better than anybody I know.
10:07Um, when Paul's being Paul, Stacey puts Paul on her in his place like nobody I've ever seen.
10:15And, uh, their relationship has a truly special bond because of Jimmy.
10:19And I think just because they go back since she was 18 years old, she's a gym rat just like
10:24him.
10:25And, uh, they spent a lot of time together, so.
10:28I think she's fun.
10:29I think we should have more of her on the show.

16:23And we went down into the office and the principal said, you know, I'm sorry to tell you that
16:30your son's not going to graduate this year.
16:32And my father looked at him for a second.

17:01So we were working, Paul and I were working on the rear end of Joan's bike.
17:04It had a different mounting system for the caliper in the back, which mounts directly to a bracket
17:09on the frame that's welded there.
17:11So when we switched the rims out and modified some of the sizing in the back, there were
17:16some issues with it.
17:17So we had to figure out what we were going to do and how we were going to remedy it.
17:20I wanted to get that free run and that all the way over there.
17:23And then we can look and see.
17:24This should work.

17:52So we're going to mount this bracket to lock everything in place.

18:11Well, it'll only take a second to put the back tire in the front end knots.

18:16And we were able to figure that out, put it back together after taking it apart a couple times.
18:21It fit perfect.
18:22The rear fender went on.
18:24There was no issues there, which is very fortunate.
18:26So we're going to be moving forward, and I think we'll be able to finish this on time.
18:29I think we had a pretty good day today.
18:31You know, the little curves here this afternoon with the rear tire and the usual stuff, I guess.
18:39But we're at the point where we're starting to button it up.
18:42I think that tomorrow we'll probably have it up and running and get out on the road and take it
18:48for a test run.
18:49You know, it's been a male-dominated industry for quite some time.
18:53And I love to see, you know, women showing their talents, and it's our time.
18:58Between Casey with the artistry, Jen working on the Eagle, Fran and everything she does for the community, Joan coming
19:06in on it.
19:07It's been a lot of women, and it's great to be able to tell their stories and share what they
19:10do with everybody else.

19:13So I took this idea from a Temptations album cover.

19:36And then when you look in each, there's a couple little stars in there that are silver relief.

19:45And then you have one big star right up at the front for Joan.

20:37to bring her in on this.

20:40She's got the colors and the concept Paul had mentioned to her.
20:43She put her own twist on it.
20:44She put some numbers in there which represent Paul and Joan and their families and their animals, which only people
20:49who know the story are going to recognize.
20:51Otherwise, they're just going to think it's a cool piece of the artwork.

20:54It's really cool to, you know, go from watching him on TV to knowing him as a person, and, yeah,
21:01you can't really judge a book by what you see on TV because he's a big old teddy bear.
21:06So Paul called me and asked me to come to Florida to help pick out a ring for my mom.
21:11He had never gotten her a ring yet, but they've been married for a long time, so he really wanted
21:15to get her a ring, especially because he's building a bike for her, too, and he wants to surprise her
21:19with both at the same time.
21:20So he asked me to come down, take a look at the bike, make sure everything looks good, that she
21:25would like it, and help to pick out the ring that she would like.

31:16You know, about two weeks ago, Paul said, I have to talk to you.

31:24And he said, okay, so here's the deal.
31:26There's like 120 people coming, and I don't know what I'm supposed to do or what we're
31:32supposed to do.
31:32And I said, where are they coming, assuming that we were going to do it at OCC?
31:36And he said, no, they wanted to do it at the house.
31:39I said, Paul, we live on a farm.
31:40We don't have parking.
31:42Where would you put 120 people at a small farmhouse, you know?
31:46So actually, it was pretty funny, because he's like, well, I just know that you always figure
31:50stuff out.
31:51So this whole thing was probably the biggest stress bomb dropped on me.

33:04feeling to just see all these people from all walks of life here, you know, to celebrate
33:09with us.
33:10I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who came to celebrate her birthday.

33:16I know a lot of people traveled long and far to be here, and we actually have something
