It may be a clear, sunny day at the airport when you arrive, but weather could still leave you facing delays or cancellations. Here's why.

00:00Summer is almost here, the season for travel, and nothing can kick off your vacation on the wrong foot,
00:06quite like long travel delays, misconnections, and flight cancellations.
00:10While a lot of air travel trouble comes from obvious causes, large thunderstorms or sometimes tropical systems,
00:17the weather can play a sneakier role even with dry weather, like fog, wind, or other hazards.
00:22All those things can really impact, in some cases, the ability for flights to take off and land safely,
00:28so air traffic control may have to add additional space between those departures and arrivals,
00:33but it can also impact the routes that airlines need to take.
00:37Some airports are especially prone to wind-related delays, even if winds are not terribly strong.
00:42A shift in the wind can really lead to a backlog.
00:45It could mean last-minute changes where you might line up for approach in one direction,
00:50but then you actually have to do essentially a go-around and come at it from another direction,

01:02where there isn't usually a lot of time built in between these departures and arrivals.
01:07So if you start having to space them out longer and longer, that just builds up over the course of
