00:00With the final of Peacemaker, there won't be any other DC Universe projects until Supergirl's release next year,
00:04so I thought, why not do a look back at the series so far, and focus on certain aspects that
00:07I found interesting.
00:09Let's start with Rick Flagg Sr.
00:13Starting off with probably the only character who's appeared in all three released DC Universe projects so far,
00:18Rick Flagg Sr., played by Frank Grillo.
00:20I feel like he's what Nick Fury was in the earlier MCU films, as the figure usually shows up in
00:25each project,
00:25often has a tease and has a connective tissue.
00:28Now, by the end of Peacemaker Season 2, he takes more villainous role,
00:31which I've seen some people say is inconsistent with his portrayal in Creature Commandos,
00:34but then again, in that shell, he got manipulated by Princess, who feigned attraction to him,
00:39and I have a feeling Lex and his luckies are doing the same to him,
00:42by helping him try and get revenge on Peacemaker.
00:44Speaking of Rick Flagg...
00:48So it's clear that the remaining elements from the old DCEU are the projects that James Gunn worked on,
00:53namely the Suicide Squad and the first season of Peacemaker,
00:56with most of the characters adjacent to those projects making a move over to the new universe.
01:00But in the episode of Peacemaker, another Rick up my sleeve had Joel Kinnaman appear as two versions of Rick
01:04Flagg,
01:05the one from the mainline universe and the one on Earth-X.
01:07And the mainline version mentions his relationship with Intantris, which occurred in Suicide Squad 2016.
01:13Does this mean that that film is canned with the rest of the new DC Universe?
01:16Maybe not, as that film was a bit reliant on the events of Batman v Superman,
01:20but then again, this new universe has embraced ratcons like in the comics.
01:24So do I think this could leave the door open for Enchantress,
01:26or maybe a different version played by different actors to show up,
01:29because we saw how juniors have death affected Senior?
01:31And maybe Katana as well, considering that she had Rick's back in that film,
01:35and she can cut people in half with one sword stroke.
01:37Just like Mona Lorne, it would be advisable not getting killed by her.
01:40Her sword traps the souls of his victims?
01:43Maybe not.
01:43But also we have Mermonfo, which is up in Superman,
01:47and she, him, and Black Lightning were on The Outsiders,
01:49so hey, maybe that could be a good way to introduce them.
01:53I also know Blue Beep's always getting an animated follow-up with Zola,
01:56Mare de Gheningas, displaying her as role,
01:58but it remains to be seen if it will reference the film,
02:00but because in that film was pretty much isolated and stood on its own,
02:03I don't think there'll be much retconning.
02:08At the end of Peacemaker, we saw the formation of Checkmate,
02:10with its ranks being made up of the cast of Peacemaker.
02:12I feel like we'll be seeing them pop up in other projects.
02:15Much like how Rick Flagg Sr. is this universe's equivalent of Nick Fury,
02:18Checkmate could be this universe's equivalent to S.H.I.E.L.D.,
02:21making sporadic appearances all mentioned in passing.
02:24In the comics, wow, Mr. Terrific was Elsa, remember?
02:25And so was Amanda Waller, Adebayo's mother,
02:28and considering that she's getting her own series that might come into play.
02:30With a lot of use of Cloak and Dagger spy work and the topic of power,
02:33both relaying geopolitical,
02:34I'm feeling this first chapter, Gods and Monsters,
02:37is influenced by the Catalyst arc of Justice League Unlimited.
02:39Just a hunch, but I'm feeling a lot of similarities here.
02:44Now it's been noted that DC's fictional countries show up in the universe,
02:48Kolostan, Baravia, and Johanna Purr being the most prominent ones.
02:51I suspect we'll see more of DC's fake file states like Bialia,
02:54which was mentioned in Creature Commandos,
02:56Crack, Markovia,
02:57Hey, GeoForce was part of the Outsiders,
02:59Kasnia, Vlatava, and so on.
03:04With what's been released so far,
03:05they've all been under the direction of James Gunn,
03:07and all Catania's created fingerprints,
03:09so it's going to be interesting to see next year,
03:11as most of the projects will be held by other creatives,
03:14and what they bring to the table.
03:15While I enjoy Gunn's work,
03:16I do hope we get a variety of different voices being brought into each project.
03:22One last thing I want to talk about
03:24is how this series' attitude to projects and how they be released.
03:26It all feels very fluid.
03:27Clayface was on the part of the original announcement in 2023,
03:30only coming about because Mike Payne had a pitch,
03:32and that film is currently in production.
03:33See also the Sgt. Walk movie that was supposed to be made by director Luca Gordino,
03:37but that's been put on hold,
03:38and the authority might be made in a TV show.
03:40It shows there's a fluidity with how these projects are handled at the development stage,
03:44unlike Marvel,
03:44which has the appearance of it being planned out from the start.
03:46So those were some observations about the DC universe.
03:49Is there anything you noticed that I missed?
