00:05A tornado-like storm struck a residential area near Tanjung Aru in Labuan on Tuesday night,
00:10damaging 33 houses and injuring one man.
00:13The victim, identified as 64-year-old Wong Kwe Kiong,
00:18suffered head injuries after being struck by flying debris
00:21and was taken to Labuan Hospital for treatment.
00:24The storm, which hit at about 9.40pm,
00:28tore off rooftops, damaged several vehicles and uprooted large trees.
00:33Labuan Fire and Rescue Department Director Abdul Rahman Ali said
00:37eight firefighters were deployed to the scene and found the area in darkness
00:42due to a power outage with roads blocked by debris and fallen objects.
00:46He said the exact number of affected residents could not be immediately determined
00:51as many had sought temporary shelter with relatives.
00:55Firefighters focused on clearing roads and removing debris
00:59to ensure the area was safe and accessible to emergency vehicles.
01:04Those displaced by the storm will be housed at a temporary relief centre
01:08at the Rancha Rancha Fire and Rescue Station Hall.
