Three Chilling Winter Encounters
Story 1: The Man at the Back Door (Age 17, Home Alone)
A 17-year-old, home alone during a snowstorm, hears footsteps approaching the front door. The person coughs and walks up to the porch—but never knocks. After several minutes of silence, the teen looks outside. No one is there, but footprints lead to the door and then back away. Later that night, around 11 p.m., a loud thump comes from the side of the house. The power cuts out. When the teen investigates the back door, a man is standing there in the dark, pressing his face against the glass. He politely asks to be let in, saying it's freezing. The teen hesitates, sensing something wrong. The man's demeanor instantly shifts to rage. He screams, "Open the [expletive] door!" and pounds on it. The teen runs to call 911, struggling with poor phone service. The police arrive 30 minutes later, but the man is gone. The teen never sees him again.
Story 2: The Stranded Car and Four Men (Driving Home)
While driving home alone through heavy snow, a young man encounters a car sideways on the road with hazard lights flashing. A man is standing outside next to it. The driver stops because the car is blocking the road. The man claims his car is stuck and asks for help pushing it out. Suspecting nothing yet, the driver agrees. He gets out into the freezing wind and goes to the back of the man's car to push. While waiting, he notices the man leaning into the front seat, appearing to talk to someone. When the driver asks if he was talking to him, the man says he was just talking to himself—but something feels off. Suddenly, three more men rush out of the car and charge toward him. The driver sprints back to his car, floors it, barely squeezes past the blocked road, and escapes. He files a police report but never receives any update.
Story 3: The Intruder on the Roof (First Winter in a New House)
It is late November, the first snowfall of the season. A person is sitting at his desk upstairs when he hears thuds moving across the ceiling above him. Worried about roof damage, he goes outside to look. Unusually, all the snow has slid off only one side of his roof—the side directly above his bedroom—while neighbors' roofs still have snow. He goes back inside. To his horror, there are now puddles of water across the hallway, living room, and stairs. He spots a bootprint in one of the puddles. Realizing someone has broken in, he runs back outside and calls the police. While waiting, he sees a figure move past his bedroom window and then stand behind the glass, looking down at him before disappearing. Police arrive but find no intruder. They confirm that trees near the house made the roof accessible, and unlocked windows were an easy entry point. Nothing was stolen. The tracks went through the entire house, suggesting the intruder was looking for the resident. The resident realizes that he must have gone outside to check the roof at the exact moment the intruder climbed in through a windo

00:00It was mid-December. I was only 17 at the time, and every year just before Christmas week,
00:05my mom had to go on a three-day business trip for work. Being an only child that lived just
00:10with my mom, I'd spend these days that she was gone home alone. Usually she'd leave just before
00:15winter break, so I'd be in school for most of the day, but this year she left the same day
00:19that our
00:19school let out for the holidays. I had the house to myself and wanted nothing more than to stay
00:24inside and chill all day. Our city was going through somewhat of a snowstorm, so I couldn't
00:29really leave the house anyway. I made some of the food that was left for me and found a new
00:33movie
00:33to watch. I had to pause it several times throughout the couple hours though, because the wind and snow
00:38would suddenly pick up and get really loud. It seemed like every time I looked outside,
00:43the weather was worse. Then, around 7 or 8, someone was walking up to the front door.
00:49I could hear their footsteps kicking against the snow, and they coughed several times as they
00:54slowly made their way up to the porch. I didn't have a clue who it could be.
00:59I paused everything and looked at the door, waiting for them to knock or ring the doorbell.
01:03As more time passed though, I could feel myself getting nervous, as something didn't feel right.
01:08I want to say I waited 3 or 4 minutes, not hearing anything, before I went up to the door
01:13and looked
01:14outside. Nobody was there. I could see the footsteps coming right up to the door, then going back the
01:19way they came. I was really confused how clearly I heard them walk up, but somehow I didn't hear them
01:25leave. Also, with the snowstorm outside, what reason could someone have to come up to my house?
01:31I think the only reason I could settle on was that the snow made it difficult to see,
01:34and they mistook my house for theirs. Maybe they realized once they got up to the porch,
01:39and didn't want to alarm anyone, so they quietly left. It's probably a bit of a stretch,
01:44but I guess it was possible. After a while, I'd mostly stopped thinking about the situation,
01:49and was more caught up worrying about the storm. The power cut out a few times, lasting for several
01:54minutes before it came back on. Because of that, I couldn't really watch TV or anything,
01:58so I just sat on the couch and scrolled on my phone. It was maybe around 11, when through the
02:04harsh wind, I heard a thump against the house. I initially ignored it, but only a few moments
02:09later, the power cut out again. Thinking the thump might have caused it, I got up. It sounded like
02:17it was from the side, near the kitchen, so I turned my phone light on, then walked over and looked
02:21around. I thought it was probably just a coincidence that the power shut off right after I heard the
02:26thump, but I just wanted to be sure nothing happened. I didn't see anything, and I started
02:31to walk away. Hey. I jumped and looked at the back door, seeing a man standing against the other side.
02:38The back porch light wasn't on, so he was mostly covered by the dark. I could only see his face
02:44peering in at me. Hey kid, would you get the door for me? It's freezing out here. He said,
02:50putting his hand on the door and trying to open it. My head wasn't fully grasping the situation
02:55yet, and I kind of just stood there and stared at him. Kid, get the door, please.
03:01Something gave me a bad feeling. I knew better than to trust this guy, even though it was a
03:05blizzard outside. The man started coughing, and I started to back up, and the man's face instantly
03:10fell into a disturbing frown. Open the f***ing door. He yelled, banging his fist against it
03:16several times. I ran back to the couch and got my phone. I then stood in the hallway and watched
03:22the man as I dialed 911. My phone was struggling to hold service and kept dropping the call, but
03:27after a few tries, I was able to get through long enough to ask for help. The man at the
03:32door
03:32continued to yell at me and hit the door, but eventually ran off. I'm assuming the snowstorm
03:38caused some trouble for the police, as they didn't make it until nearly 30 minutes after.
03:43I told them what I could, and I called my mom to let her know what happened. Nobody really knew
03:48what to think of it. He could have been stalking me and trying to guilt me into letting him in,
03:53or he could have actually been in need of help, although it's unlikely. I never saw him again
03:58after that night, though. I had visited my family for the holidays and was driving back home.
04:04The trip in total was about 10 hours, which I split into two drives on the way up, but on
04:08the way
04:08back, I decided to power through it in one long drive. Around the halfway point, snow started
04:14coming down. It wasn't too much, so I wasn't worried about it. However, it got worse as I kept
04:19driving. Once I was three hours away from home, it was pouring down pretty heavily, and with the sun
04:25going down as well, it definitely was not ideal. There were almost no other cars out, though, which
04:30is the only reason I decided to keep driving. The snow made it harder, but I was still on track
04:34to be
04:35home by the end of the night. It was just after the sun had fully set, and about 30 minutes
04:40out
04:40from the nearest town I'd just passed through, that I noticed a car on the road ahead of me.
04:45Their headlights were the only light on the road, in the middle of the blanket of snow
04:48covering everything else, and as I got closer, it was clear that they were stuck, or at least
04:53not moving. Their car was sideways on the road, with their hazard lights flickering, and a man was
04:58standing out in the cold next to it. Obviously, with the snow and cold, I really didn't want to stop,
05:03but it seemed I didn't have a choice. His car was blocking most of the road off that was paved.
05:09I parked just behind him. The man immediately started waving at me, and walked up to my window.
05:15My car slid, and got stuck there. Can you help me push it out? He spoke slowly, like his English
05:21wasn't the best, but hoping I could get back on the road as soon as possible, I agreed to help
05:25him.
05:26The car didn't really look like it was in too much snow, so maybe just a little push might
05:30actually be enough. I threw my hat and gloves on, then got out. The wind hitting my face,
05:36and snow instantly soaking me, made me wonder why the guy even got out of his car, and didn't just
05:40call for help. My face and hands were already getting numb, so I hurried to the back of his
05:45car, and waited for him to get his gloves. It was too dark to see anything through the windows,
05:50and after a little bit of standing back there waiting, I looked around to see what was taking
05:54him so long. He was still leaning into the front seat, as if looking for his gloves,
05:59but I thought I heard him talking. A second later, he came back out and looked at me.
06:04Uh, were you talking to me? I asked. He looked concerned, but said he was just talking to himself.
06:10He smiled, then walked around to the back to help me push. I couldn't help but feel like something
06:15had changed though. His whole demeanor and the situation just felt different. Although I didn't
06:20hear what he said, it didn't really sound like he was talking to himself, but if someone else was in
06:25the car, then why was he out here alone and asking for my help? All these thoughts came rushing through
06:30my head, and I guess for a few seconds, I was kind of spaced out. So much so, that I
06:35didn't notice the
06:36man staring at me. His smile had dropped, and he had an eerie look in his eyes, like they were
06:42hollow
06:42and lifeless, completely opposite of what he looked like before. I didn't even hesitate,
06:47beginning to hurry back to my car. Just then, several doors from the car I was just behind
06:52opened, and three more men got out, rushing toward me. I sprinted into my driver's seat,
06:58and thank goodness I left my car on, because I put it straight in drive and rolled past them,
07:02almost hitting one on the way out. I was terrified of possibly getting stuck in the snowbank,
07:07as the path around their car was very thin, but thankfully I made it around and was able to get
07:11away.
07:12I put in a report with the police at the closest town, but there were never any updates as far
07:17as
07:17I know. I'm assuming the men weren't really stuck, and probably left right after I did.
07:23I don't know what those men were up to, of course I had my guesses, but if I had stayed
07:27and didn't
07:28leave right when I did, who knows where I'd be. This was last year. It was late November,
07:34and this was the first snowfall of the season. It wasn't supposed to be anything too much,
07:38just a couple inches of snow. I got home from work around 8, and by then the snow had already
07:43started. I heated up some leftover pizza and stayed downstairs for a couple hours.
07:48Around 10, I went upstairs to my bedroom, sitting at my desk with my laptop.
07:52Before I could even open up something to watch, I heard something right above me.
07:57It sounded like a thud in the ceiling. I thought it was likely the snow weighing down on the roof,
08:02and was probably nothing to be concerned about. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned at all,
08:07though. This was my first winter at this house, and it wasn't in the best shape,
08:11so part of me was a little worried about any possible leaks, or other problems that could
08:15happen with the snow. I tried to not think about it too much, and continued looking for something
08:19to watch, but then it happened again. A thud resonating through the ceiling. I looked up,
08:26and the thuds continued, sounding almost in a straight line across the ceiling.
08:31I was genuinely worried now. I got up and grabbed my winter jacket, then hurried out the front door,
08:36and looked up at the roof. Unexpectedly, the side of the roof that my bedroom was under,
08:41there was no snow on it, and it all slid off, and fell into a pile in front of the
08:45house.
08:46I looked at the other side of the roof, and the snow was still there. I then looked at my
08:50neighbors' homes, and all of them still had snow sitting on their roofs, like normal.
08:54The way the snow had fallen off just one side of my roof didn't seem natural,
08:59like something was either wrong with my roof, or something else had made this happen,
09:02probably whatever those thuds were that I was hearing. With no more answers to find outside,
09:08and my whole body starting to shiver from the cold, I walked back to the front door.
09:12I opened it, and hurried inside, stomping my boots on the doormat.
09:16When I looked up though, my heart almost stopped. There were puddles of water going across the hallway.
09:23I stayed still, and looked around, seeing water going through the living room,
09:27and even up the stairs next to me. It only took me a second to see a boot print in
09:32one of the
09:32puddles, and I immediately turned right back around, and headed out the door. I stood by the
09:37road, and called the police, shivering as I tried to tell them my situation. About 30 seconds into the
09:43call, I saw something move past one of the windows in my bedroom, and moments later, a figure stood
09:48behind the glass, looking down at me. They only stayed for a second, then backed away.
09:54I didn't see anything else the rest of the time that I waited for the police.
09:58As I was waiting though, I put together most of the pieces in my mind.
10:02Someone had made it up on the roof, making the snowfall as they walked across.
10:06There were several windows they could have gotten in from, that I honestly had no idea
10:10if they were locked or not. When police arrived, they didn't find the intruder inside anymore,
10:15but they basically confirmed my theory. There were multiple trees going over top my house,
10:20that anyone could easily climb, and with the windows being accessible,
10:24it made for an easy target. At least, the officers think that that's the reason they broke in,
10:29just because I was an easy target. Nothing was missing though, and the way the shoe prints went
10:34through the whole house felt eerily like them looking for me. What's crazy is that I must have
10:39gone outside to check on the roof at the exact time they got in through the window. If I was
10:44any later,
10:44I would have been face to face with them, or if I'd gone back inside sooner,
10:48they might have not left tracks through the house yet for me to immediately notice.
10:52It's been nearly an entire year since this, and so far, nothing else has happened. Maybe it was
10:57just a one-time attempt, but I don't think I'll ever feel safe with all the uncertainties of what
11:02happened that night.
