00:00Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are currently being sued by a pair of Miami cops over their Netflix
00:05film The Rip. Now the movie is inspired by a 2016 drug bust in which $24 million in cash was
00:12recovered. It centers on a group of cops that suspect one another of trying to steal cash
00:16after a drug bust. It's a fictionalized account. It features fake names. Yet these two cops say
00:22that their reputations have still been harmed as a result of the two stars portrayal of the
00:27cops in the film. Now legal experts tell us that the fact that it uses fictionalized names and it
00:32has a disclaimer in the credits is why this lawsuit is probably not going to go anywhere. But even so
00:38Hollywood increasingly is looking for ripped from the headline stories to adapt and it's increasingly
00:43finding itself in some legal hot water brought by the real life people who say they are being depicted.
00:48In some recent examples Netflix has had to settle defamation lawsuits over inventing Anna and The
00:54Queen's Gambit and it currently faces an ongoing lawsuit that's pending over its award-winning
00:59series Baby Reindeer. Please go to page6hollywood.com and subscribe to our free newsletter.
