'The Boys'' Final Season Premiere Has A Horrific Shock, But The Best Part Came From A Surprising Source
Transcript
00:00I do have to ask about that laugh because it is perfect.
00:03It is exactly what that moment needs.
00:06Man, to be honest with you, that laugh came out in one of the later takes that we had done.
00:14And it was actually Antony's idea.
00:17He sort of introduced the idea to me.
00:19We were sitting there and we spent a lot of time on that moment.
00:22We played that moment out on a lot of different variations, right?
00:26Where we were sort of back and forth of how one character would react to the other character delivering whichever
00:32line in a certain way.
00:35And Antony comes to me and he just asked a couple questions and I would ask him some.
00:40And one of the questions that he asked me was, do you think A-Train's happy about this?
00:47You know what I mean?
00:47And I was like, I think he's relieved.
00:49I feel like he's relieved.
00:52And at the end of the road, I think the very last thing that he realizes is how ridiculous all
01:00of this has been.
01:02It's just, it's ridiculous.
01:04And I think it's to the point where it's almost comical.
01:07And that's where that sort of comes from.
01:09You know, like when we get to that moment and we had this conversation throughout the night.
01:12And we get to, you know, one of our last takes and then I'm just looking at, I'm watching Antony
01:19play Homelander.
01:20And he's just like huffing and puffing and he's really angry.
01:23And I'm looking around at the crew and I just go, I just start chuckling.
01:29You know what I mean?
01:30And then I see him get infuriated in character.
01:34And it makes it even funnier.
01:36It just makes it funnier.
01:37It's like, what are we doing?
01:38You know what I mean?
01:39And it's just such a real, like a very honest moment for A-Train to have where he had been
01:46so scared for so long.
01:47And I say this all the time.
01:49It's the moment where the kid opens the closet door and realizes that the boogeyman is not real.
01:56And it's like, I can't believe I sat up in bed for 10 years afraid to look at the closet
02:02where my clothes are.
02:03That's kind of how that felt.
02:05It's like, I can't believe that I've been doing this for so long and I've been hurting people for so
02:10long because of this guy.
02:12You know what I mean?
02:12It's like, who is this dude?
02:14Like, bro, you're wearing tights.
02:15You know?
02:16It's like, this is ridiculous.
02:17And it just, I don't know.
02:18It's almost comical.
02:20And, you know, he's laughing to keep from crying in that moment, obviously.
02:24But, yeah, it was just one of those, like, resolute final moments where, you know, you're facing death and then
02:32you just, yeah, everything just becomes funny.
02:33I mean, I think it's a true testament to you as an actor because we start off hating A-Train
02:40and then you somehow made him likable in the end.
02:44Thanks.
02:44Yeah.
02:45It's...
02:46I like him.
02:46We love him.
02:47I like him.
02:47We love him.
02:48Yeah, he's cool.
02:51We love him.
02:52Yeah.
