00:00It's honestly a shambles, I don't know how it's been allowed to go on for so long
00:04because it is so dangerous for us to be here.
00:07The foyer to the Miller Heights building in Maidstone was bustling
00:11as angry tenants were forced to leave their homes.
00:15An untreated leak in the basement caused power and electricity to fail
00:20with some residents catching wind of the outage as late as 11pm
00:24with little time to find alternate lodgings.
00:27We've been told at that point that we were allowed to stay
00:31but they weren't really sure, we didn't have any electricity, no power, anything like that.
00:36So with no real other choice, I slept here last night
00:41and this morning I came down to sort of get an idea of what's going on
00:46and I've been informed that there's been a meeting of some sort
00:50around potential condemning of the building.
00:53Some were told to book a last-minute hotel
00:56but by the morning, everyone was asked to relocate to Maidstone Leisure Centre
01:00with no communications on when the situation might be fixed.
01:04And there are people that cannot afford to tell
01:07only for us to wake up this morning and they're saying
01:10oh, it's going to get worse that it's like we're going to leave the whole building
01:15for us to, you know, suck ourselves out.
01:18But it's not right, it's not fair.
01:21We have the right to say, oh, this is wrong.
01:24Many residents expressed to me that this wasn't the only issue
01:27they've experienced in the building
01:29and they're management company, Centric.
01:32Everyone needs to get out of here for their own safety
01:34and they just need to be shut down.
01:36It is corrupt.
01:38I don't know how, where all this money is going.
01:40People are paying £3,000 a year service charges.
01:53But with no other alternative in sight
02:00apart from shelling out for an expensive hotel room
02:03and no concrete timeline of when facilities would be up and running again,
02:08for those in Miller Heights, it still remains a waiting game.
