00:36Today, in national news, the US launched the Explore-1 satellite during January.
00:49Explore-1 was the first satellite to be launched by the United States.
00:55The Soviet Union had already launched the world's first satellite with Sputnik 1 in
01:04October of last year.
01:09The Explore-1 was launched on a Jupiter-C rocket and was used to measure the radiation in Earth's
01:18orbit.
01:21The satellite successfully orbited Earth over 58,000 times before it re-entered the atmosphere.
01:34The success of the Explore-1 satellite was an important milestone of the space race between
01:41the United States and the Soviet Union.
01:55The Brussels World Fair, also known as Expo 58, will begin during April this year in Belgium.
02:11this is the first major World's Fair to be organized after the end of World War II, with the previous
02:20World's Fairs taking place in New York during 1939 and 1940.
02:25The site chosen for Expo 58 spans about 490 acres and is the same site of the 1935 Brussels International
02:42International Expo.
02:43This year's Expo 58 will feature several pavilions that will showcase science, arts, architecture,
02:57engineering, and various countries along with their cultures and accomplishments.
03:06The main attraction of the fair will be the unusually shaped atomium building.
03:20The last expo saw over 41 million visitors before it concluded during October.
03:32This year, they expect double.
03:43For those who have never been to the World Fair, it's quite an experience.

04:21from Cape Canaveral during December.
04:26It was the world's first communications satellite and is going to be used for experimental purposes
04:33to test how satellite communications would work and what problems it may encounter.
04:42The creation of SCORE was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency.
04:53Its launch also represented the first successful use of an Atlas rocket as a launch vehicle.

05:24The Hope Diamond was donated to the Smithsonian Institute.
05:36Now, for those who don't know what the Hope Diamond is, which I'm sure most of you do,
05:44Jeweler Harry Winston donated the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Institute in November.
05:53The legendary 45.52-carat blue-hued diamond's history can be traced back to the mid-1600s,
06:03when it was likely purchased from a mine in India and then sold to King Louis of France.
06:12It remained in the hands of French rulers until the late 1700s, when it was stolen.
06:19It eventually ended up with the family of Henry Philip Hope until the 1910s.
06:28Pierre Cartier then acquired it, reset it, and sold it to U.S. Harris Evelyn Walsh McLean.
06:40McLean kept it until her death in 1947, after which Harry Winston purchased it.
06:47Winston showed the diamond at exhibits and events until he donated it to the Smithsonian Institute,
06:54where it now remains.
