00:15A fresh warning from Iran is pushing the Middle East closer to the edge tonight.
00:22After U.S. President Donald Trump rejected Tehran's latest ceasefire proposal
00:28and declared the fragile truce was on massive life support.
00:33And now, fears of a wider regional war are growing fast.
00:39The dramatic escalation began after Trump dismissed Iran's counterproposal aimed at
00:45preserving the already fragile ceasefire in the Middle East.
00:50Speaking to reporters in Washington, Trump compared the ceasefire to a dying patient.
00:55He said the deal was on massive life support and claimed it had only a 1% chance of survival.
01:04Trump also described Iran's latest response as totally unacceptable.
01:10That statement immediately triggered a sharp reaction from Tehran.
01:15Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bakr Ghalibaf fired back with a direct warning.
01:22He said Iran's armed forces were fully prepared to respond and teach a lesson to any aggressor.
01:30The warning has intensified fears that tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel could
01:37spiral into direct military confrontation.
01:40At the center of the crisis is Iran's demand for major concessions.
01:45Tehran says it wants an end to the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports, a halt to military
01:52operations across the region, including Israeli strikes on Hezbollah and Lebanon, and the release
01:59of frozen Iranian assets held abroad under sanctions.
02:03Iran insists these are not concessions, but what it calls its legitimate rights.
02:09But Washington appears unwilling to back down, and the consequences are already being felt worldwide.
02:17The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping routes, is now under intense pressure.
02:24Iran has reportedly tightened restrictions on maritime traffic and introduced new toll mechanisms for
02:32passing vessels.
02:33The U.S. has repeatedly warned that allowing Tehran to control the strategic waterway would be unacceptable.
02:41Global energy markets are already rattled.
02:44Saudi Aramco's CEO, Amin Nasser, described the current disruption as the largest energy supply shock
02:52the world has ever experienced.
02:55And the United Nations is now warning of a potential humanitarian disaster.
03:01UN officials say prolonged disruptions in Gulf shipping could trigger severe food shortages
03:08because fertilizer exports from the region are being affected.
03:11According to the UN, the world may have only weeks left to avoid what it calls a massive humanitarian crisis.
03:20One official warned that as many as 45 million more people could be pushed into hunger and starvation
03:28if the crisis continues.
03:30At the same time, concerns over Iran's nuclear program are once again taking center stage.
03:37The U.S. and Israel continue to accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, allegations Iran strongly denies.
03:46Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that military operations will continue
03:53until Iran's nuclear facilities are destroyed.
03:57And with missile threats, naval tensions, energy disruptions,
04:01and collapsing ceasefire talks all unfolding at once.
04:05The question now is no longer whether the region is in crisis.
04:09The question is, how close is the world to another major war?
