Desert Law - Season 1 - Episode 04: Fourth Of July Heat Engsub
Transcript
00:10Summers are brutal with the heat.
00:12It'll melt your shoes, your skin, it'll tear you up for sure.
00:18If it's too hot outside, the bad guys don't want to go out and commit crimes.
00:22When the nighttime comes, the freaks come out.
00:26Put your pants off!
00:28When that's undone, people think they can hide the bad stuff in the dark.
00:31This is the I don't believe face.
00:34One team, one family, we always pull together.
00:39Dad, run your back!
00:41What the f*** am I in handcuffs for?
00:44It's very dangerous.
00:46Backup isn't always closed.
00:50Can I have a run emergency?
00:52You're gonna kill me!
00:54Assaults, robberies, shootings.
00:57It's lawless out here.
00:58It's gonna get hot tonight.
00:59A little bit of spice is always good.
01:01Stop having sex.
01:02Put your jeans on.
01:04See you in the wild, wild west, Tucson.
01:07It's the witching hour.
01:08Don't tap out on us yet, okay?
01:46So Full of July, obviously, is like the entire weekend.
01:49People tend to just party from Friday up until the Sunday.
01:55In Pepey County, 4th of July is usually a really good time.
01:59It's a very patriotic holiday, hence all the red, white, and blue, and the blowing up.
02:11A lot of parties, a lot of hot dogs.
02:13Cookouts.
02:14Calls about fireworks, calls about DUIs.
02:17Also drinking.
02:18Lots of drinking.
02:20And the drinking.
02:22This is my first time working the 4th of July.
02:25I'm kind of excited, kind of nervous to see how the night pans out,
02:27because I've heard it can get pretty crazy.
02:33So we're going to go to the San Javier district.
02:36My biggest advantage working in the San Javier district is that I grew up in this area,
02:40and I know a lot of these streets.
02:44One of the more unique challenges in this district is we cover a lot of ground.
02:50Definitely feels like they're calm before the storm.
02:54911, where is your emergency?
02:56The kids had a party.
02:57My granddaughter woke me up.
02:59And there's a lot of kids here, and there's a lot of cars in the front.
03:03Do you hear anything right now?
03:05I just hear the kids still arguing out there.
03:08Are you still in the room?
03:09You haven't seen anybody?
03:10I'm in a closet.
03:12You're in a closet?
03:14Yes.
03:15Hurry up.
03:15They're getting loud again.
03:16They're getting loud again?
03:17Okay.
03:18Yes.
03:19Please stay on the line.
03:20We are going to get deputies out there shortly.
03:28We also just had an unknown problem come in.
03:30Apparently there's some kind of party going on.
03:32There's some kind of disturbance of the peace.
03:38That one time out of ten,
03:39you're going to get these absolute rangers that these people are throwing
03:42that end up with people shooting guns or fighting.
03:45I mean, if we don't get a handle on it now,
03:47it's going to become a much bigger problem in the very near future.
04:01Yeah, I want to push charges because it was a guy.
04:03The guy punched you in the face.
04:04Okay.
04:04Do you have any information on them?
04:06Any vehicle?
04:06I don't have no idea who he is,
04:07but we were trying to leave the house,
04:08and this girl called me a bitch,
04:09and she swung at me.
04:11And then I tried fighting back,
04:12and he punched me in the face and pushed me out of the house.
04:14Okay.
04:14Do you know who this person is?
04:15I have no idea.
04:16They're still in the house.
04:17What's he look like?
04:18He was wearing a colored shirt, black and white.
04:21Okay.
04:22Hey, why don't you guys stand out with these guys?
04:24We're going to make entry,
04:25and there's possible code 12 that's coming in.
04:30How many people are in this house right now?
04:31Like 30 people are in this house right now.
04:34All right.
04:34Everybody else is inside.
04:35We're the first people to walk out of the house.
04:37Why don't we have someone go around in the back
04:39in case they try to squirt?
04:40Uh, you want to come with me,
04:42and we'll hold containment in the rear?
04:44My officer's safety side is kicking in for sure,
04:47trying to think and plan on having
04:49some kind of an aggressive encounter.
04:52He's showing he's not afraid to get physical.
04:55All right, my man.
04:56We'll stop right here.
04:57All right.
04:58All right.
05:00What's going on, dude?
05:01I don't know.
05:01A fight just broke out.
05:03They just started fighting,
05:04and my girl got involved.
05:05It just happened so quick.
05:07All right.
05:10Definitely some funny business going on here.
05:13We did end up finding a dude
05:15who supposedly assaulted two females.
05:23All the doofuses that like to wreck parties
05:26and do stuff like this,
05:27they start causing problems,
05:28causing fights,
05:28and then next thing you know,
05:30what was a simple, perfectly legal,
05:33perfectly fun-looking party
05:35turns into an absolute train wreck.
05:56How's your night going?
05:58Good?
05:58All right.
06:00Do you see fireworks?
06:01A lot of them?
06:03Yeah, good.
06:05Be safe.
06:06Bye, guys.
06:11Fourth of July is definitely a big holiday,
06:15and so we'll schedule more deputies
06:17to be out,
06:18and then we also have task force units
06:21that will come out
06:22and help with traffic control.
06:285-8-0.
06:33This deputy asked for his backup unit,
06:35but didn't say that he was okay, basically.
06:41We're gonna go help out this deputy
06:43and figure out what's going on.
06:53What's going on?
06:55I'm not sure, to be honest.
06:56Okay.
06:57I'm not sure what's going on.
06:58Do you know this man?
06:59Yes, I do know him.
07:01I'm just trying to figure out
07:02what's going on right now.
07:03I'm not sure what's going on.
07:05Okay.
07:07I'm not sure what's going on.
07:08Yeah, I have no idea why he stopped with him.
07:10Okay.
07:10Okay, but there's at least some legal reason
07:12for him to stop him right now at this time, so...
07:14No, I understand that,
07:15but I would like to know what's going on.
07:18So, just so you know,
07:18stopping him is walking in the middle of the road
07:20and he just got hit by another vehicle, okay?
07:23And he wasn't crossing.
07:24He's literally in the middle of the road.
07:26Just so you guys know.
07:27Uh-huh.
07:27We're just having a little good together right here.
07:29Okay.
07:29We're right here at this corner house right here.
07:32Okay.
07:32Nothing's going on.
07:34Uh, I'm 21.
07:36Okay.
07:37Whoever's inside drinking is 21.
07:39Sounds great.
07:40Yeah.
07:41Um, I'm not sure what's going on right here.
07:45Oh, we're not here at this time.
07:46Actually, your friend, cousin?
07:48I'm her sister's boyfriend.
07:50Okay.
07:51Sorry.
07:52Her sister.
07:53My sister.
07:54Okay.
07:55Is her boyfriend.
07:56Good.
07:56Stay out in the South.
07:57All right.
07:58Are we good?
07:59I appreciate you guys so much.
08:00Give somebody a call.
08:02Get a ride home.
08:02Yes.
08:03He's going to get a ride home right now.
08:04Sounds fantastic.
08:05Thank you guys.
08:05I appreciate you so much.
08:07Absolutely.
08:08Good luck.
08:13Just some really young, intoxicated people.
08:17The gentleman wanted to walk somewhere
08:20and decided that the middle of the road
08:22was the best place to walk.
08:27She smelled so strong of alcohol.
08:30She smelled like an actual buzz ball.
08:33Kept repeating everything that she kept saying.
08:39There'll be a lot more celebration tonight.
08:43A lot of people acting silly.
08:59Got a car going 77 northbound right now.
09:09We're going after it.
09:15Six percent traffic.
09:28Hello.
09:29Hi.
09:29So I'm Deputy Poole with the Sheriff's Department.
09:31Any reason why you're going 77 right now on a 45?
09:33Because I'm late for work.
09:34Okay.
09:35When people run late to work,
09:36usually they call ahead and say,
09:38hey, I'm running late.
09:39That way they at least get there safe.
09:42Any reason why you're yelling at me right now?
09:44Okay?
09:44Because I'm not yelling at you.
09:48Well, I'm sorry.
09:49I'm sorry.
09:49You're having a bad day.
09:50Okay?
09:51I'm sorry?
09:53The light in my eyes.
09:55Shut up your car.
09:55Come talk to me outside.
09:56Come here.
09:58Am I going to jail or what is going on?
09:59I don't know.
10:00We're going to talk outside like I said.
10:01I'm just trying to figure out so I can call my boss and let him know.
10:04Get out of the car before I get you out of the car.
10:27All right.
10:28I'm going to stand right here.
10:31Stay right there.
10:32Don't go anywhere.
10:35I don't know.
10:36Out into the desert.
10:37I don't know.
10:38Out into the desert.
10:40Because you and your car smell like weed,
10:42I'm just going to check your eyes and just make sure that you can drive safely.
10:44Okay?
10:45Can you see this red light right here?
10:47Follow this red light with your eyes and your eyes only.
10:49Don't move your head.
10:50Okay?
10:51You're making me really nervous.
10:53I don't understand how.
10:54I'm just doing my job.
10:55What is your attitude?
10:57Pull me.
10:58Get out of the car unless I'm going to pull you out of the car.
11:00I don't even do anything.
11:02Because my attitude, because your feelings are a little hurt because the way I'm talking to you.
11:07Where do you see this going?
11:08Are you arguing with me the way that you are?
11:10I don't remember.
11:10Just follow my instructions so I can keep doing my job so we can both go about our day, okay?
11:14I'm telling you, my anxiety is starting to kick off right now.
11:17Not because of all this and that.
11:18What does that mean?
11:19Because look at all these people right here for my little girl.
11:21Right.
11:22Because of all my attitude.
11:24Because of how you're acting and behaving, okay?
11:26This is not normal.
11:27I'm nervous.
11:27Okay.
11:28If that makes me a bad person, that makes me have an attitude, then I'm so sorry.
11:31I'm so sorry that me disclosing that is me coming off as a bitch.
11:36Okay.
11:37You were smoking marijuana earlier today.
11:39And about how much weed did you smoke?
11:40Because the car reeks of it right now.
11:42You, right now, talking with you.
11:43You reek of it.
11:44Right.
11:45I just look like half a roach.
11:48I'm placing under arrest for DUI tonight.
11:50May I call number, please?
11:57So she's a big-ass joint then?
11:59She smoked earlier in the day.
12:03Oh, that just, like, rolled into this interaction tonight.
12:06Everywhere.
12:10You've been advised you're under arrest for DUI.
12:12All right.
12:14I'll be right back.
12:14I'm gonna get those handcuffs off you.
12:15We'll do some paperwork, okay?
12:17And we'll work on just getting you out as soon as I can, all right?
12:27Part of the reason why we have a DUI unit is to address people that ingest these kind of substances
12:33and make the poor decision to go out driving.
12:37We have no problem with celebration.
12:39We love American independence.
12:40We want to celebrate it, too.
12:42But we got to do that responsibly, just like celebrating any other holiday, too.
13:02We're gonna go check out this suspicious vehicle.
13:05We'll notice he drove over the fog line, and he's, uh, he's tapping his brakes a lot, which is definitely
13:12not normal.
13:15734 traffic.
13:26Hey, man.
13:27We're just at that party.
13:28Is there any reason why you're driving right now?
13:30No.
13:31Because you told me you were hanging out and drinking at that party.
13:35Okay.
13:38When was the last drink you had?
13:42Okay.
13:42Let me go run your information real quick, dude, and we'll go from there, all right?
13:45Sit tight for me.
13:48It's one of our doofuses from the party that we were at.
13:51It involved a lot of alcohol, and I'm getting some odor of intoxicants.
13:55I got some red-watery bloodshot eyes, so we're definitely gonna kind of pursue a DUI investigation here and go
14:01from there.
14:03Hey, man.
14:04So I'm concerned because you were at that party.
14:06So if you're okay with doing some field sobriety testing with me, man.
14:12Count your first step from this heel-to-toe position.
14:14Go ahead and begin whenever you're ready.
14:18One.
14:20Two.
14:23Three.
14:25Four.
14:27Eight.
14:29Nine.
14:33All right.
14:33All righty, man.
14:35How much alcohol did you say you would drink today?
14:37Maybe five beers.
14:38Maybe five beers?
14:39When's the last time you said you had those beers?
14:41It was around maybe 11.10, 11.
14:44Okay.
14:44That range.
14:45And then I have my five beers, and I was just tired.
14:49You're saying 11 o'clock now?
14:51When did you have that final beer out of those five, would you say?
14:55Rough estimate?
14:58Maybe...
14:59Like 12 o'clock.
15:01Okay.
15:02So right now I'm gonna have you keep your hands behind your back, okay?
15:06Right now you are gonna be placed under arrest for DUI, all right?
15:10All while I had about five beers, starting at 11, 11.15.
15:13Stopped drinking around midnight.
15:15Times aren't matching up.
15:16Stories all over the place.
15:18And didn't perform too great on the standardized field sobriety test.
15:20He queued a bunch on those.
15:22All of which has solidified my probable cause to arrest this dude for driving under the influence.
15:35Yeah, guys, really appreciate your help.
15:37That would have taken me forever on my own, so thanks for the help.
15:58I haven't been out here for a while, so I'm just gonna check a couple of the usual spots, see
16:04if there's something going on there.
16:05It'll be a good time.
16:13911, what is the address of your emergency?
16:16Circle K.
16:16I have an NMR customer at my store who just threw a bottle of wine.
16:23Oh, God.
16:25We may have a bit of a burglary in progress at the Circle K.
16:30We are definitely gonna try to get to that fast.
16:33660.
16:34I'm getting 1060.
16:36Get out of the way.
16:37God.
16:39He's coming up behind the counter.
16:40I'm gonna try to get him.
16:42So you try to grab him?
16:43Get out of the store.
16:44Circle K.
16:44Get out!
16:50Oh, God.
16:51We may have a bit of a burglary in progress at the Circle K.
16:58I have an NMR customer at my store who just threw a bottle of wine.
17:03He's coming up behind the counter.
17:05I'm gonna try to get him.
17:07So you try to grab him?
17:08Get out of the store.
17:09Circle K.
17:09Get out!
17:11He's going out with the liquor.
17:15He was in there cursing and throwing wine bottles.
17:19This dude's already shown his propensity for violence.
17:22I'd expect the worst that we're gonna get into a brawl with this dude right now.
17:27He just went to the unwanted person.
17:29The male vehicle behind the counter and grabbed 10-17, but she pushed him away.
17:32He's now walking north off.
17:35I'm gonna check a couple spots, and if we're lucky, maybe we'll be able to pick this dude up.
17:41Unfortunately, the guy was able to get away.
17:47As time keeps passing, the more likely it is this person's getting further and further away, and we more than
17:52likely won't catch them.
17:53We gotta try.
17:54Especially since he's strong armed with an elderly Circle K clerk just trying to do her job.
17:5910-35, please.
18:01So our canine unit just found him.
18:05Get on the ground.
18:07Get on the ground or you're gonna get dog bit.
18:17Get out of the ground!
18:18Joe's on our ground!
18:18On the ground!
18:20Stop fighting the dogs!
18:21Stop fighting the dogs!
18:22Stop fighting the dogs!
18:24Stop fighting the dogs!
18:2610-35, so she's in the middle of the car.
18:282-35, okay.
18:28They're 10-35.
18:29The Jews are not good.
18:30They need help.
18:31They're on the ground!
18:33You're good.
18:34I love you.
18:41He keeps driving!
18:42Let go!
18:47Put your hands behind your back!
18:52That's the one!
18:54You ready to grab this room?
18:55Yeah.
18:57One, two, three!
18:59Let's go!
19:04How can I help you?
19:06We're going to band-aid you on your arm, okay?
19:09Okay, we're going to roll you to your side.
19:11We're going to get you checked out, okay?
19:13We might need to put some pressure on that.
19:15He's leaking pretty good.
19:17You want to get your eye back?
19:18Okay.
19:19We're putting a band-aid on your arm, okay?
19:21And then we're going to have a hammer next to come check you out, all right?
19:24Stop moving your hand, please.
19:26Let go of my hand.
19:29Stop grabbing my hand.
19:32No, you can't.
19:35Oh, buddy, I promise you're not doing what you want.
19:40I saw him, so I pulled up next to him.
19:42I said, get on the ground.
19:43And he started using profanities towards me.
19:46I said, get on the ground or I'm going to dog butt you.
19:48Like, you're going to get bit by the dog.
19:50And then he flipped me off and he started running.
19:52So then I just let her serve her purpose, which is an apprehension tool.
19:57She's a very good partner, so I'm very grateful to have her.
20:01And I'm grateful that she's okay.
20:11At the end of the day, we got him.
20:13He's not roaming the streets anymore.
20:15He's not going to go rob another Circle K.
20:18But it was a little bit more of an eventful night than I thought it was going to be.
20:49Yeah, so being British here on the 4th of July.
20:53I mean, I'm the butt of a lot of jokes anyway.
20:57But for the 4th of July, they tend to happen a lot more often.
21:02And, you know, be like, oh, we're celebrating the day we destroyed you guys and poured your tea in the
21:08harbor.
21:08Well, I don't really take anything to heart, but they're proud to be American and proud that they, you know,
21:18defeated the British and did all their good stuff.
21:24Just like silly banter and stuff like that.
21:26Nothing too serious.
21:33So somebody has called about an address playing loud music.
21:37We're looking for a lot of cars in the street parked in front of a specific house.
21:40I roll the windows down, slow roll, and I just try and figure out where it's coming from.
21:53I don't know exactly what I was talking about all the cars in the street.
22:00Charter's Department.
22:02Good evening.
22:03Are you the homeowner, sir?
22:05Yeah.
22:05All right, so after 10 o'clock in Pima County, your music or whatever you have going on can't resonate
22:11past your property line, okay?
22:14So we've had about three people call about your music saying it's disturbing.
22:18I'm not saying you have to shut it down, but you do have to, like, lower it kind of all
22:21the way down.
22:22If we have to come back out again, we are going to have to ask you to shut it down,
22:26okay?
22:27All good?
22:27What's the celebration?
22:28Is there anything specific?
22:29My daughter's 15.
22:3115?
22:32Oh, so like a quinceanera?
22:33Quinceanera.
22:34Okay, okay.
22:34I got it, I got it.
22:35Well, happy birthday to her, man.
22:36Man, you guys have a good night, all right?
22:38I appreciate it.
22:39All right.
22:41Just some cowboys celebrating a quinceanera.
22:43I really like to approach these with a respectful manner.
22:46I'm not trying to be a party clipper.
22:47It was his daughter's 15th birthday.
22:49She wanted to have a little get-together.
22:52What they're doing isn't necessarily illegal, but, you know, people want to sleep and whatnot.
23:14I think with the 4th of July, it is insanely busy right now.
23:17As I kind of drive into the district, that's when I start looking for crime occurring rather than going to
23:25call to call to call.
23:27We do our best to stay visible to the public by driving through these rural areas, driving through the industrial
23:36areas.
23:36I've been to a few robberies where it's business, and those are always pretty scary.
23:50There was one night that another deputy had driven past a business, and he had seen this truck outside.
23:57He saw this guy leave from, like, a back area of the business and jump inside the truck.
24:03He had tried to make a traffic stop on the truck, and it ended up taking off from him.
24:10Survey copies. We're active surveillance.
24:15Luckily, we had our air unit available that night, and the airplane was able to keep eyes on the truck.
24:24Southbound on Madison Travenant. Looks like he has damage to his vehicle. He's swimming all over the road.
24:30I'm just right on his tail.
24:33It looks like he's getting ready to bail. He's pulling into the desert.
24:37The guy who's bailing is going to be running northbound from the vehicle into the desert area.
24:50I start chasing after the guy through the desert, kicking off this crazy amount of dust.
24:55You're just on high alert and have your head on a swivel trying to find this person that maybe has
25:00a gun.
25:10You're always on high alert when chasing after somebody that they may ambush you.
25:16You just have your head on a swivel trying to find this person that maybe has a gun.
25:24You just have to be in the tunnel system.
25:28You just have to be in the air unit.
25:29You just have to be in the tunnel system.
25:43But the other deputies show up, and they're on the opposite side of the tunnel.
25:49I can hear shotguns racking.
25:57The pilot can see that I'm in a dangerous situation.
26:03They're not only possibly pointing guns at the suspect, but they are 100% pointing their guns at me.
26:09Immediately, the pilot gets on the radio and tells them, you need to get to the other side.
26:15Get on your stomach! You're crawling me now!
26:21Crawl out now!
26:26Keep crawling!
26:31Get on your stomach! Do it now!
26:39I'll take you to the pilot.
26:41Check that.
26:46All right, dude. We're going to move you out of here, right?
26:49We end up finding out that he had burglarized businesses in the past and stolen that truck.
27:05Without the help of the pilot and the air unit at that time, I think it would have put us
27:11in a very dangerous situation where I could have potentially gotten shot.
27:14But obviously, I didn't. Very blessed in that sense.
27:29So, it's the 4th of July, and it's the start of my shift.
27:33A lot of people are going to be out at parties tonight.
27:35They're going to be drinking at bars.
27:36They're going to be celebrating the holiday.
27:40And sadly, that means that several of them will get behind the wheel.
27:44So, tonight, we're going to go up to our Foothills district.
27:48So, this is going to be kind of the northwest side of Tucson.
27:52A lot of residential areas.
27:54A lot of bars and a lot of parties are likely to take place up in this area.
28:02So, we're going to try to get out, do some enforcement up here.
28:05But of course, as we get called out to other incidents around the county.
28:11This is weird.
28:12We had just left the station.
28:18719.
28:18I'll be out with a vehicle on the median.
28:21Copy of Minnesota 28.
28:25Hi there.
28:26Deputy room of the Sheriff's Department.
28:27Yes.
28:28Do you have a driver's license with you?
28:30I do.
28:34So, can I ask what happened?
28:35How are we on the median?
28:37Oh, I thought I was in the turn lane back there.
28:40You're in the turn lane back there?
28:41You guys have these mediums that pop out like that.
28:43Like, where there's snow, they don't do that because the snow plows would snag them.
28:47Okay.
28:48You still live up in Minnesota or?
28:50I've been here like five years in Arizona and it's not the first time I'm like.
28:55It's not the first time you popped yourself onto the median?
28:57No, not like this.
28:59This is...
28:59Not like this?
29:01All right.
29:03Yeah, I'll have you go and step out here for me, okay?
29:06So, have you had anything to drink tonight?
29:09Um, not tonight.
29:12Not tonight?
29:12No.
29:13Okay.
29:13When's the last time you had something to drink?
29:15I was in Sierra Vista probably three hours ago.
29:18Like three hours ago?
29:19Okay.
29:19What'd you have?
29:21Um, a hard seltzer.
29:23Okay.
29:23Just one, two, ten.
29:25Okay.
29:26All right.
29:27Okay.
29:28So, I just have a test that I want to run through with you, okay?
29:31Just make sure that you're safe to drive.
29:33So, I'm going to take a look at the...
29:35Can you see the red light right here?
29:36Yep.
29:37Okay.
29:37So, just follow this with your eyes or your eyes only, all right?
29:40Okay.
29:40The driver was slow to respond when I was attempting to talk with her.
29:44She had slurred speech.
29:45Her eyes were red, watery, bloodshot.
29:46I could smell the odor of intoxicants emanating out of the vehicle.
29:51One, one thousand, two, one thousand, three, one thousand, four.
29:54Am I going okay?
29:55No, keep going.
29:56Oh, that was good.
29:56One, one thousand, two, one thousand, three, one thousand, four, one thousand, five, one thousand, six, one thousand, seven, one
30:03thousand, eight, one thousand, nine, one thousand, ten, eleven, one thousand, twelve, one thousand, thirteen, one thousand.
30:09All right, you can stop.
30:11All right, go based off the signs and symptoms
30:13and your performance on the field sobriety tests.
30:15You are under arrest for DUI.
30:23All right, will you consent to attest your blood breath
30:25here under other bodily substance
30:26for the purpose of determining your alcohol concentration
30:28or drug content?
30:29Yes.
30:30Okay.
30:33She performed poorly on field sobriety tests.
30:35She had also admitted to drinking some hard seltzers
30:39earlier in the night.
30:42We're just looking at a misdemeanor tonight,
30:43which means I'll cut you out on a citation.
30:45Okay?
30:46And then we'll help you get wherever you need to go.
30:50No doubt we'll have more drunk drivers tonight.
30:53So this was first traffic stop of the night.
30:55We had just left the station.
30:57You know, we're not out here looking to be a bad guy.
31:00We're just out here trying to make sure the roads are safe.
31:17We're absolutely right here at Kuma County.
31:20We're all right here at Kuma County.
31:22We're great.
31:23We're out here in Kuma County.
31:28We're in Kuma County.
31:28And the 4th of July being the main holiday during the summer,
31:30In Pima County, it definitely makes for a busier day, and we're also experiencing some record high temperatures.
31:37So, I mean, the combination of all that with the gatherings we're going to have, the drinking, the partying, and
31:42all that stuff, it's going to make for quite a bit of calls for us.
31:52911, where is the emergency?
31:55Yeah, there was an accident. My dad just got hit, and the person took off.
31:59Okay, is your dad injured?
32:01Yes.
32:04The White Dodge Dakota, when we'll run east on the street.
32:09We're going to head up there and see if we can locate the fleeing subject.
32:18Okay, is it the Dakota that hit your dad's truck?
32:22Yeah.
32:23Which way did he run?
32:24He ran east of the street.
32:26Okay.
32:28We have a vehicle collision.
32:30We're going to see if we can locate the fleeing subject.
32:33Response time is definitely important.
32:42And there's a male that took off running into the desert area.
32:47Why would somebody in a normal situation, an accident, want to take off running?
32:52Were they driving erratically because they just committed a serious crime, and then running from that?
33:08The suspect is right there.
33:10Why did you take off?
33:11I was just, um, I don't know, I'm kind of scaring me, so I just, I'm just...
33:16I'm sure you do this as an accident, right?
33:17Yeah, I know, that's why I came back.
33:19I was like, I was, I was right there.
33:27Sounds like he came back.
33:28I'm not sure.
33:28All they said is that they have him there, and now they have him in custody, so...
33:32Let's go ahead that way and find out what's going on.
33:38Very, very brutal stuff.
33:50The suspect's bar.
33:52Oh, God.
33:52Victim's, victim's bar.
33:53Yeah.
33:55Did he flee?
33:57Did he leave, and then he left me and came back.
33:59That's weird.
34:01Did you see where he came from over here, or did he just walk back out?
34:03Well, I was taking pictures of the car, and then all of a sudden, he walked up in this direction.
34:06All right, cool.
34:07I'll trail in the two eyewitnesses that came back to the idea of him.
34:10Oh, yeah.
34:10If you want to do that, I'd appreciate it.
34:11Yeah, and we're...
34:15All right, guys.
34:16So, we're just going to have this individual step out.
34:18We just want to let you, or you guys tell us if you guys have seen him before.
34:23Yeah.
34:23Yeah.
34:23That was him?
34:25He was pretty drunk.
34:26Yeah.
34:28Did he say anything while he was here?
34:29Did he say anything?
34:30He has vibration.
34:31I think he's got an entire condition.
34:34Okay.
34:35Did he say anything okay?
34:37Yeah, it doesn't seem like there's any serious injuries, but there's definitely some injuries, so...
34:45Have you been drinking tonight?
34:47No, sir.
34:48Have you been doing any drugs?
34:50No, sir.
34:51Yeah, you had a thing about that one.
34:56Did you do drugs?
34:57I mean, maybe earlier, like, but I'm just...
35:01Earlier?
35:02Yeah, I'm coming down, would you say?
35:03What are you coming down from?
35:05They said it was...
35:07What was it?
35:08They said it was MDMA.
35:10MDMA?
35:11Yeah.
35:12Okay.
35:13How long did you take that?
35:15Like, around 8.30 in the morning.
35:198.30 in the morning?
35:20Yeah.
35:21Okay.
35:22So the other deputies on scene have made contact with the occupants of the other vehicle.
35:25They're pretty shaken up, but no serious injuries, so really lucky to be walking away from that.
35:30As for our outstanding suspect who had caused the collision and fled the scene, he's in custody.
35:34The medical personnel responded out, and they were able to clear him medically,
35:38and we're just going to be doing an investigation into possible drug use and intoxication.
35:51You have a feeling good.
35:52You've convinced yourself that you can drive.
35:54You get behind the wheel.
35:55You hit somebody.
35:56They get injured.
35:57You take off on foot.
36:00Your whole life is upside down after that, just because of one stupid decision.
36:06It's crazy.
36:08It's crazy.
36:18Fourth of July.
36:19Hopefully, we'll keep the fireworks to a minimum and don't kind of spark up a little brush fire
36:24that grows into a whole headache for everybody.
36:28It's crazy.
36:34It's crazy.
36:38One, three, traffic.
36:42One, three, what?
36:43Hey, Chrysler 300, Mission Park.
36:48Deputy stop out with a Chrysler 300 at the park.
36:52Parks close at 10.
36:53After that, you're trespassing if you're in the park.
36:58Put it in park.
37:01What are you guys doing up here, my man?
37:02Something's just hanging out.
37:04Yeah?
37:06So, you got the open containers?
37:09Yeah, well, we're just kids trying to have fun.
37:11Kids are trying to have fun.
37:13All right, any guns in the vehicle?
37:15No, sir.
37:16What about you, my man? You got a gun?
37:17Yeah, you do.
37:19Let me see your hands. Put it up now.
37:22Don't reach.
37:27So, we're heading over to a call right now with a deputy that stopped out with a vehicle.
37:32He requested a backup unit and put over the radio that the subjects in the vehicle had a gun.
37:37It was a very short transmission, so we're not sure what we're dealing with.
37:42And it sounded like he needed a backup unit pretty quick.
37:47It's a crime in the state of Arizona to not disclose weapons when contacted by law enforcement.
37:54So, you don't want to waste any time, especially when things could be happening pretty much by the second.
38:03So, if my unit gets here, you're going to chill, all right?
38:06Yeah.
38:08I see the one in your waistband, too.
38:10Yeah, it's right here.
38:12Yeah, so don't reach.
38:28AR-15 here, and he's got a gun in his waistband with open containers.
38:32All right, gentlemen, you're going to keep your hands up.
38:34Touch the ceiling for me?
38:36Down the waistband, and then the air on the floor.
38:39The air is right there.
38:41Cold.
38:42I'm going to have you open the door.
38:44Yes.
38:45Go ahead and stick both hands out the door for me.
38:48You don't have any other weapons on you, do you?
38:50All right.
38:50If you wake up, check me, too.
38:51Yeah, definitely.
38:53I don't have any other weapons on you.
38:54You don't have any other weapons on me.
38:55You don't have any other weapons on me.
38:55You don't have any other weapons on me.
38:56How old are you, man?
38:58I'm 18.
38:5919?
38:59Yeah.
39:00What am I going to do if I'm not going to get your name and info, okay?
39:04All right, I'm going to ask you again.
39:05Do you got a gun on me?
39:06I don't have no guns on me, sir.
39:08Okay.
39:10Might be a lot of things, but I'm not a liar.
39:12All right.
39:13Well, I'm going to be honest with you.
39:15You did lie because there was guns right there with them arms
39:17briefs that...
39:18There wasn't guns on me?
39:19Well, I asked you if there was any guns in here, right?
39:22Yes, sir.
39:28I'll crack it.
39:29See if there's one on the chamber to get a picture of that.
39:47Oh, I mean, they both had one, right?
39:56The driver had the handgun.
39:57Both passengers.
39:58Oh, both passengers.
39:59Oh, both passengers, okay.
40:03You just want all the booze out of here?
40:05How many of these...
40:06Ask him how many he drank.
40:09I'll ask him right now.
40:13What's up?
40:14How many of those shooters, the little shots?
40:17How many have you had?
40:17I definitely had someone else at home.
40:22You know about how many?
40:25About four.
40:26Okay.
40:26I don't know.
40:28Cool.
40:28All right, give a second, man.
40:29You need air back here or anything?
40:31AC?
40:31You good?
40:33Cool.
40:34Yeah, yeah.
40:37He was out here comforting him over lady issues.
40:40I was like, cool, man.
40:42You guys stay strapped when you guys do that.
40:47You're going to place your left foot on that white line.
40:50And on the right foot, you're going to place the heel to toe.
40:52Step down the line.
40:54Turn.
40:56Do you understand the instructions that we're given?
41:00Okay.
41:01Go ahead and begin.
41:05Press passing and...
41:07Click the laws.
41:09Click the laws.
41:23All right, we're going to clear up.
41:25Yeah.
41:29They got a few guns off the street.
41:32An intoxicated driver that won't be driving around tonight.
41:35Yeah, it was a good find for just checking on a park.
41:43Well, so much for getting out early, you know?
41:54Home sweet home.
41:56Rolling back into the substation here.
41:58Nice little end to our long and busy 4th of July night.
42:02For my first one, I'd say it was pretty solid.
42:08Definitely kept it busy right up to the end to watch.
42:11All in the night's work for Pima County.
42:13Bowling.
42:15Yeah.
42:20Good job.
42:20Bye.
