00:00The United States measles crisis just crossed a devastating new threshold.
00:04The CDC confirmed 1842 measles cases in the United States in 2026.
00:10As of May 7th, that is more than 80% of the entire 2025 total.
00:15And there are still seven months of the year remaining.
00:1825 separate outbreaks have been confirmed across the country this year.
00:2393% of all confirmed cases involve unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccine status.
00:30The Pan American Health Organization is scheduled to assess whether the United States
00:35officially loses its measles elimination status in November, a status the country has held since 2000.
00:42Experts say the verdict is increasingly certain.
00:45The U.S. has seen continuous transmission long enough to meet the formal definition of lost elimination.
00:51South Carolina's outbreak, which began in October 2025, is now officially declared over after reaching 997 cases.
01:01But new outbreaks are active in Florida, Texas, Arizona, Washington State, and Utah.
01:07Kindergarten MMR vaccination rates have fallen to just 92.5% nationally, well below the 95% herd immunity threshold.
01:16And with summer travel season beginning, health officials warn the window to stop national spread is closing fast.
