02:07One evening, after thinking it over for some time
02:10Harold decided to go for a walk in the moonlight
02:14There wasn't any moon
02:17And Harold needed a moon for a walk in the moonlight
02:21And he needed something to walk on
02:25He made a long, straight path
02:27So he wouldn't get lost
02:31And he set off on his walk
02:33Taking his big purple crayon with him
02:36But he didn't seem to be getting anywhere on the long, straight path
02:40So he left the path
02:41But for a shortcut across the field
02:45And the moon went with him
02:55The shortcut led right to where Harold thought a forest ought to be
03:01He didn't want to get lost in the woods
03:06So he made a very small forest
03:09With just one tree in it
03:11It turned out to be an apple tree
03:13The apples would be very tasty
03:16Harold thought when they got red
03:19So he put a frightening dragon under the tree
03:22To guard the apples
03:37His hand holding the purple crayon shook
03:40Suddenly he realized what was happening
03:43But by then, Harold was over his head in an ocean
03:47He came up thinking fast
04:05He quickly set sail
04:09And the moon sailed along with him
04:13After he'd sailed long enough
04:14Harold made land without much trouble
04:22He stepped ashore on the beach
04:25Wondering where he was
04:27The sandy beach reminded Harold of picnics
04:30And the thought of picnics made him hungry
04:44There was nothing
04:47But pie
04:51But there were all nine kinds of pie
04:53That Harold liked best
04:58When Harold finished his picnic
05:00There was quite a lot left over
05:12So Harold left a very hungry moose
05:16And a deserving porcupine to finish it up
05:19And off he went
05:25Looking for a hill to climb
05:28To see where he was
05:32Harold knew that the higher up he went
05:34The farther he could see
05:40If he went high enough, he thought
05:42He could see the window of his bedroom
05:45He was tired
05:46And he felt he ought to be getting to bed
05:54But as he looked down over the other side
05:57He slipped
06:02Luckily, he kept his wits and his purple crayon
06:14He had a fine view from the balloon
06:18But he couldn't see his window
06:22He couldn't even see a house
06:28So he made a house
06:30With windows
06:46None of the windows was his window
06:53He made some more windows
06:58He made lots of buildings full of windows
07:03He made a whole city full of windows
07:09But none of the windows was his window
07:14He couldn't think where it might be
07:18He decided to ask a policeman
07:25The policeman pointed the way Harold was going anyway
07:32And he walked along with the moon
07:34Wishing he was in his room and in bed
07:37Then
07:39Suddenly Harold remembered
07:40He remembered where his bedroom window was
07:44When there was a moon
07:49It was always right around the moon
07:58And then Harold made his bed
08:04Got in it
08:06And he drew up the covers
08:13And Harold dropped off to sleep
08:16A picture for Harold's room
08:39I want a picture to put on my wall
08:42Said Harold
08:44He drew a house
08:46With his purple crayon
08:49More houses made a little town
08:52It was far away
08:57The town had woods and hills around it
09:00And it was at the end of a long road
09:05It would look pretty in the moonlight
09:08Said Harold
09:10And he stepped up
09:11Into the picture
09:12To draw the moon
09:16He looked down at the houses
09:19I am a giant
09:21He said
09:22But a giant
09:23Would scare all the people in town
09:26It is good no one woke up and saw me
09:29Said Harold
09:31He walked over the hills
09:33How big I am
09:36He said
09:37Harold's head
09:38Harold's head was above the clouds
09:40With a few steps
09:42He came to the end of the land
09:47And at the end of any land
09:49There is water
09:50It is the sea
09:51It is the sea
09:52Said Harold
09:52There are seagulls
09:58Harold was big enough to walk through the sea
10:04A great big ship went by
10:07It was an ocean liner
10:09A big whale came up in the waves spouting water
10:13And just ahead of Harold
10:15And just ahead of Harold was an old sailing ship
10:19The sea ended against a steep hill
10:25Harold needed some rocks to step on
10:28He climbed out of the sea
10:31He climbed out of the sea
10:31And onto the hill
10:32Then he saw that the ship
10:34Was too near the rocks
10:36He put up a lighthouse
10:38To show the sailors
10:39And he went on his way
10:42Over high mountains
10:45Harold was taller than the highest mountain
10:48I am higher than anything
10:51He said
10:57Then suddenly he thought of airplanes
11:00Harold ducked his head just in time
11:06It was a big jet plane
11:08Flying very fast
11:16There might have been a bad accident
11:24Harold found a low place in the mountains
11:26It was a good place for a railroad to go through
11:37The tracks came out onto a long, flat field
12:02Harold put some birds and flowers near the tracks
12:11People like to see things from trains, he said
12:17He went on drawing tracks and birds and flowers
12:21And he had to keep looking out for trains
12:24It was a big job for a small boy
12:28And all of a sudden
12:30He saw how small he had become
12:32He was half the size of a daisy
12:37He was smaller than a bird
12:40How would he get home?
12:42He could not wade home through the ocean
12:45He could not climb those high mountains
12:48And just then he fell into a mouse hole
12:58Excuse me, he said to the mouse
13:02Then Harold sat down on a pebble to think
13:11After a minute or two
13:14He stood up again
13:15This is only a picture, he said
13:21And he took his crayon
13:23And he crossed it out
13:26I am not big or little
13:29I am my usual size
13:32But how could he be sure about that?
13:37At home he was always his usual size
13:40So he drew the door of his room
13:44There was a long mirror on the back of the door
13:55Yes, said Harold
13:56I am my usual size
14:00He was glad to be back in his room
14:02He was tired
14:05But he had no picture to hang on his wall
14:11So, before he went to bed
14:13He drew another picture
14:16I am I still out there
14:20Well, look, you know
14:38He didn't have to fly
14:46I am not big of
14:53Harold's Fairy Tale
15:08One evening, Harold got out of bed,
15:11took his purple crayon and the moon along,
15:14and went for a walk in an enchanted garden.
15:19Nothing grew in it.
15:21If he hadn't known it was an enchanted garden,
15:24Harold scarcely would have called it a garden at all.
15:28To find out what the trouble was,
15:31Harold decided to ask the king.
15:37Kings live in large castles.
15:40Harold had to make sure the castle was big enough to be the king's.
15:45He didn't want to waste time talking to any princes or earls or dukes.
15:50This was a king's castle, all right.
15:53It had tall towers and a big draw gate to keep out people the king didn't want to see.
15:59But when the draw gate was drawn closed, it kept Harold out too.
16:06Harold waited for the king to come down and let him in.
16:09But the gate didn't open.
16:14He walked along the edge of the enchanted garden,
16:17beside the smooth wall of the castle,
16:21until he thought of his purple crayon.
16:26A person smaller than a very small mouse would be able to get in.
16:31Without even bending, he walked into a very small mouse hole.
16:37He walked through the mouse hole into the castle.
16:43As he gazed around inside the big castle,
16:47Harold felt very tiny.
16:50And a king might not pay much attention to anybody who was smaller than a mouse.
16:54So Harold used his purple crayon again.
16:58He made sure he was as tall as four and a half steps of stairs,
17:04his usual height.
17:06Then he climbed up the stairs, looking for the king.
17:10He went up and up and up,
17:14until he got so tired he couldn't climb another step.
17:20Luckily, there were no more steps.
17:24He had reached the top.
17:31He still couldn't find the king.
17:34But he remembered kings set on thrones.
17:39The king's throne looked very comfortable.
17:42Harold thought the king wouldn't mind if he rested a few minutes.
17:48He sat on the throne,
17:49wondering what it was like to be a king,
17:53and wear a crown.
17:56He tried it,
17:58with the king's crown.
18:02It was alright for a while,
18:04but the crown began to feel heavy.
18:08So Harold put it on the king's head.
18:12He noticed the king looked sad, no doubt because of the garden.
18:17He asked the king if the trouble was due to a witch or a giant.
18:22The king couldn't say.
18:24He looked sad and helpless.
18:27Evidently, the giant or witch was invisible.
18:31But Harold told the king not to worry.
18:35He set off to find the invisible witch or giant,
18:39brandishing his purple crayon.
18:42And accidentally, it made a hole in the wall.
18:46The accident embarrassed Harold.
18:48But the hole was the handiest way out of the castle,
18:52and he climbed through it.
18:54When he looked down from the other side of the hole,
18:57he realized he had forgotten how high up he was.
19:01He needed something tall to climb down on,
19:05something as tall as a steeple.
19:08To fill the hole in the castle,
19:11Harold put a handsome and useful clock in it.
19:14He was surprised to see how late it was.
19:16He slid down the steeple
19:18to find the invisible witch or giant right away.
19:23It wasn't a steeple.
19:25It was a pointed hat.
19:28It was a giant witch.
19:31The purple crayon made it plain.
19:33It was an invisible giant witch.
19:36Well, no wonder nothing grew in the enchanted garden.
19:40How could anything grow, Harold said to himself,
19:43with a giant witch tramping around with big feet.
19:47Now that he saw what the trouble was,
19:49all Harold had to do was drive the witch out of the enchanted garden.
19:55Mosquitoes.
19:57Mosquitoes, Harold knew, will drive anybody out of a garden.
20:01The mosquitoes drove out the witch.
20:04They also were driving Harold out of the garden.
20:08He had to make smoke to get rid of the mosquitoes.
20:12And he had once heard somebody say that where there's smoke, there must be fire.
20:18To put out the fire, he first thought of fire engines.
20:22But he decided to make it rain.
20:24Rain was easier.
20:29The rain soaked everything.
20:33Harold too.
20:34But he said,
20:36it's good for the flowers.
20:40He was right.
20:42Soon there were flowers.
20:45Beautiful flowers popped up all over the enchanted garden.
20:48All in gorgeous bloom.
20:52Harold thought how delighted and happy the king would be when he looked out from the castle in the morning.
20:58And then, amazingly,
21:01the last flower turned out to be not a flower at all,
21:04but a lovely fairy.
21:08She held out her magic wand,
21:10as fairies always do when they're giving somebody wishes that will come true.
21:16Harold couldn't think of a thing to wish for.
21:19But to be polite,
21:21he took one wish and told the fairy he'd use it later.
21:26Besides, Harold thought,
21:28as he started on his long walk home,
21:31a wish might come in handy sometime.
21:37After all the excitement,
21:40he suddenly felt tired.
21:42And he stopped to rest a while.
21:45He sat on a small rug,
21:47because the ground was still somewhat damp from the rain.
21:51And he wished.
21:53He wished the rug was a flying carpet.
21:57At once, Harold felt it rise in the air.
22:01It flew fast and high.
22:03But when it went so fast,
22:05it left the moon behind.
22:07Harold realized he didn't know how to stop the carpet.
22:11He wished he'd taken two wishes from the ferry,
22:14so he could wish the flying carpet would land.
22:18But he did have his purple crayon.
22:24He landed the flying carpet in his living room,
22:27right behind the high-back chair his mother sat in knitting.
22:34And he asked her to read him a story
22:38before he went back to bed.
22:47He was a son in bed.
22:48And then he later,
22:53and they will have an relacion up to bed.
22:54And he walked around to bed.
22:59and I don't know how to skate his bike.
22:59And he went to bed.
23:00He went to bed and salute his bike.
23:01And he was a big kid.
23:02And everything he wished had to be.
23:06He was a big kid.
