The Opportunists (2000) follows Victor Kelly (Christopher Walken), a former safecracker trying to stay straight as a struggling auto mechanic, who's lured back into crime by a mysterious "cousin" (Peter McDonald) and two bumbling security guards (Donal Logue, Jose Zuniga) into one last armored car heist to pay off debts, only for the plan to go awry, leaving him trapped in the vault while the fake cousin escapes with the loot, though the "cousin" later returns the money, allowing Vic to provide for his aunt and presumably return to his straight life.

00:30:39Mr. Langston, the law says I got to report everything we carry,
00:30:44right down to the bank deposit slips.
00:30:46But with cash, sometimes, it's too hard to be exact.
00:30:55No way.
00:30:58That's quite something.
00:31:00Yeah.
00:31:02I'm the only one that knows the combinations and has access to the vault.
00:31:09I had an alarm wired in to keep it up to date.
00:31:20Look, I don't want to be rude, but I'm expecting a phone call.
00:31:24Okay.
00:31:24Sure.
00:31:25Yeah.
00:31:25We're putting a sunroom in, and the builder is giving me grief.
00:31:44What are we doing?
00:31:45Stay here.
00:31:58Mark!
00:32:00Open up!
00:32:01Wait in the car.
00:32:03No, I'm in this.
00:32:04Mark!
00:32:08It's thick, Kelly.
00:32:27That's Michael.
00:32:33I need your help.
00:32:35How can I help Mr. Goodwrench?
00:32:39I need some Plessy combinations to practice on.
00:32:44Take some tea bags.
00:32:46You want a cup?
00:32:47No.
00:32:48Thanks.
00:32:48We have to take back a rental car.
00:32:54Stay.
00:32:59Can you make a copy of that?
00:33:02Why?
00:33:02I think it's a kid who evolved gay.
00:33:07No.
00:33:07Take this thing.
00:33:08It locks me uptown.
00:33:08It's somebody's front door.
00:33:09Oh.
00:33:11Forget that.
00:33:15Would you put that down?
00:33:23What about the locks?
00:33:26Um, it depends on what you're offering.
00:33:29I can give you 500.
00:33:32That's all I have.
00:33:33Or something from the take.
00:33:35What model Plessy is it?
00:33:37It's big.
00:33:37It's 30-something years.
00:33:39It's got three locks.
00:33:40That's the Imperial.
00:33:42In that case, I should take this.
00:33:45It'll be a couple days.
00:33:49Good night already.
00:33:51So, if I had a car, I'd pay Vic to fix it.
00:33:55Yeah.
00:33:55Go home and visit your family, okay?
00:33:58Bye bye.
00:34:02We're closing.
00:34:03Hi.
00:34:04Is Vic in?
00:34:05I need to talk to him.
00:34:07Just one minute.
00:34:07Yeah, yeah.
00:34:08All right.
00:34:08Come on.
00:34:10Hey, Vic.
00:34:11Hey.
00:34:12What's going on?
00:34:14$1,600 in unpaid rent.
00:34:21I had a setback at work.
00:34:24So I heard.
00:34:25Nothing like a word of mouth for business.
00:34:29Ted, when have you spent a dime on the place?
00:34:32You can get in line like everybody else.
00:34:34Or I could write you a check.
00:34:36That's fine, Vic.
00:34:38Look, you pay by the weekend.
00:34:40I am clearing your stuff out and getting another tenant.
00:34:43Really?
00:34:43That's a fact.
00:34:44Well, have a nice day.
00:34:49All right.
00:34:52He's a total loser.
00:34:55He owes money everywhere.
00:34:58Get yourself a nice gun.
00:35:01Good night.
00:35:02Good night.
00:35:03Good night.
00:35:08Nick.
00:35:10Will you stop being such an idiot and take the money, for God's sake?
00:35:14I told you, I'm not going to do that.
00:35:16Why not?
00:35:17What's wrong with it?
00:35:18Not a thing.
00:35:19Well, you just can't let everything fall apart.
00:35:22I don't see it.
00:35:23What's falling apart?
00:35:29Well, maybe you ought to stay at your place for a while.
00:35:35What do you mean?
00:35:36Well, you got some kind of scheme, don't you?
00:35:39No.
00:35:40You know, there are people who rely on you.
00:35:43And you've been a regular citizen for a while now, and we all got used to you being around.
00:35:48The regular citizen thing is not going too good.
00:35:55Get out.
00:35:57You mean that?
00:36:00I'm not getting on a bus.
00:36:03To go visit you upstate, Nick.
00:36:07You're going to be that way.
00:36:09Yeah.
00:36:10I'll come back tomorrow.
00:36:12I'll get my stuff.
00:36:13I am out the door.
00:36:15And leave the keys.
00:36:19Got it.
00:37:00You know what to do?
00:37:01Yeah.
00:37:03I do the downstairs.
00:37:04If I find the key and make an imprint, I come out to the van and I take it.
00:37:09Twice.
00:37:10Yeah, twice.
00:37:11That's all I meant twice.
00:37:12Two little beeps.
00:37:12You do the upstairs.
00:37:13If you find it, you'll come down to me.
00:37:16Look, Vic.
00:37:18Relax.
00:37:19This is easy.
00:37:21Let's go.
00:37:22Let's do it.
00:37:44Justladen, come on.
00:37:45I'm justACT.
00:37:55I'm just tired.
00:37:57That's right.
00:37:59I'm just that.
00:38:03OK.
00:38:05You're around here.
00:38:09I can't wait for a second return.
00:38:10Where are you guys guys?
00:38:11I could figure out to all your spots right now.
00:38:38So, let's go.
00:39:08So, let's go.
00:39:11So, let's go.
00:39:37Go take care of the dog.
00:39:39Well, it's a...
00:39:42Oh, Jesus.
00:39:48Oh, Roman.
00:39:50What is it?
00:39:51What do you got?
00:39:52Good boy.
00:39:53Come here.
00:39:54Come here, boy.
00:39:55Come here.
00:39:56Good boy.
00:39:57What do you got?
00:39:58Oh, it's nothing, honey.
00:40:00It's a car.
00:40:01That's all.
00:40:01Can't you get out.
00:40:08You know, Michael, I'm starting to think there's something wrong with you.
00:40:23Come on.
00:40:26Vic.
00:40:37You can't come in.
00:40:38I'm finishing your business.
00:40:40It's okay.
00:40:40I need this made.
00:40:42It's the key I was talking about.
00:40:48Yeah.
00:40:48Yeah, I'm...
00:40:48Me, Vian, Kenson and Al, I'll bring him with you.
00:40:57You sure did?
00:40:59No.
00:41:00Coffee's fine.
00:41:00It's all right.
00:41:09So, the last time you did this, you got cut?
00:41:12What happened?
00:41:13You got the clipping.
00:41:15What's it say?
00:41:17But what happened to that money?
00:41:20I gave it back.
00:41:21I turned myself in.
00:41:24No, seriously.
00:41:24What happened to that money?
00:41:26My wife, when she found out what I'd done, took the kid and cleared it out,
00:41:29so I had the money, but nobody to spend it on.
00:41:32I gave it back.
00:41:36I hadn't seen my daughter for eight and a half years.
00:41:39It would have been more if I hadn't done what I did.
00:41:42I got to reduce it, and so I did my time.
00:41:47Now, I fuck up cars.
00:41:59Well, I can appreciate your reasons.
00:42:03Money.
00:42:03Everything.
00:42:05Wait, Mark.
00:42:07Right on time.
00:42:07Yeah, how you doing?
00:42:13It's in there.
00:42:24How's he doing?
00:42:26Oh.
00:42:27Him.
00:42:29Him?
00:42:32No, I just hope he doesn't blow it.
00:42:34It's where it's on.
00:42:38Oh, you're worried.
00:42:39Why are you so worried?
00:42:40Why are you so worried?
00:42:40Me, right?
00:42:41I'm not going to worry about you.
00:42:41I think I'm okay.
00:42:44I'll be set up in a couple hours.
00:42:48I stay in chat, but I have to go.
00:43:11So you go left past zero four times.
00:43:13First click here, that's your first one.
00:43:15You go right past zero.
00:43:16Back again, three times.
00:43:17Click here is your second number.
00:43:19You get the routine.
00:43:20There's three numbers.
00:43:21Reach the cylinders.
00:43:22The alarm should give you, I think, six minutes to get all nine numbers.
00:43:25After that, if you go past that, it's, you know,
00:43:28alarm locks you in the building and calls the precinct.
00:43:32See you later.
00:43:37You're on.
00:44:04What a warm.
00:44:30Time's up.
00:44:35Hey, you got two right, Becky.
00:44:38Yeah, you mean you got seven wrong.
00:44:41You know, I think maybe we could try to be a little bit more positive.
00:44:44You know, I coach Little League, and what we like to do is we look at the glass half full,
00:44:48not half empty.
00:44:50So you're a family man?
00:44:51That's right.
00:44:51I had a wife and two kids.
00:44:53So what happens to your happy brood if you go upstate for a few years?
00:44:57Well, a minimum wage is pretty hard to keep a roof over the head, you know?
00:45:01Right, so there's not a lot to cheer about, right, coach?
00:45:04So why don't you sit the fuck down?
00:45:05Well, let's get it up.
00:45:07Here we go.
00:45:07Yeah.
00:45:07I don't know.
00:45:58I don't know.
00:46:10You got four.
00:46:12Four.
00:46:13Okay, less than half.
00:46:16Not too bad.
00:46:20Here we go.
00:46:23Here we go.
00:46:31Here we go.
00:46:58Thirty-three.
00:47:05How'd you do?
00:47:08Five minutes, 42 seconds.
00:47:14Okay.
00:47:17I think we should just get out of this.
00:47:18No, let's not.
00:47:19No, wait, still.
00:47:20No, no, no.
00:47:20I don't know.
00:47:21He was getting better.
00:47:22And I think we should just get out of this.
00:47:24He's coming in here right now.
00:47:25I'm calm.
00:47:25Just tell him, because he's your friend.
00:47:27He's a nice guy.
00:47:28I don't know.
00:47:30Tell him.
00:47:31All right.
00:47:31It's done.
00:47:32No, I think it's clear.
00:47:32Vic.
00:47:33Hey, Vic.
00:47:34Vic.
00:47:34Vic.
00:47:34Should we still be confident?
00:47:36Because those numbers were taken, no offense, a long time in there.
00:47:39That's...
00:47:40Yeah, I mean, listen, you're still the coach, you know?
00:47:41But if you don't feel...
00:47:42What time is your chef tomorrow?
00:47:44Uh, midnight.
00:47:46We can...
00:47:47We'll be outside.
00:47:50Right?
00:47:53Yeah, yeah, of course.
00:47:55The body of Christ?
00:47:58The body of Christ?
00:48:04The body of Christ?
00:48:08The body of Christ?
00:48:12The body of Christ?
00:48:13Mr. Kelly, you're early today.
00:48:16For what?
00:48:17I apologize for not coming.
00:48:19I said I would.
00:48:20Oh, it's all right.
00:48:21I really didn't expect it.
00:48:23Would you like to take a seat?
00:48:25Sure.
00:48:33We're going to move Dee tomorrow to a geriatric hospital in Staten Island.
00:48:38She'll be well taken care of.
00:48:40They'll be visiting hours, and if you want to take her out for the day, you can make arrangements.
00:48:46It could be.
00:48:46I can straighten this out by tomorrow.
00:48:50Well, let's keep our fingers crossed.
00:48:53If there's a room, we'll be happy to take her back.
00:48:57Would you like to come inside?
00:49:01Good.
00:49:02Thanks.
00:49:03Well, I love it.
00:49:05Goodbye, Mr. Kelly.
00:49:23Hi.
00:49:25Hi.
00:49:29You're up early?
00:49:32Yeah.
00:49:34Yeah, I just want to get some breakfast.
00:49:36Oh, that's too bad.
00:49:37I got you some.
00:49:41I'm accepting your invitation.
00:49:45You want to go to the cemetery?
00:49:48What do you like?
00:49:49Why?
00:49:51I guess it's beautiful.
00:49:53Why isn't Miriam here?
00:49:57She should eat that.
00:50:05You help me because you think it makes you feel better.
00:50:09Pay in your penance.
00:50:13I night go to Staten Island.
00:50:16I haven't been there since my friend Maureen eloped.
00:50:20You told me that.
00:50:21Pies from a box.
00:50:23I didn't have time to cook.
00:50:28She'll be here when she gets here.
00:50:34So what do you think?
00:50:37Yeah.
00:50:40Big.
00:50:42Big graveyard.
00:50:45And do you think we were living in a big house with lots of money?
00:50:50Miriam, standing on the graves here, we are.
00:50:53We get under the pad every day.
00:50:54Did you?
00:50:55What?
00:50:56Do you think we were living in a big house with lots of money?
00:50:59What do you mean?
00:51:02I don't think you're even close to being related to us.
00:51:09I found it on the counter in your little trailer.
00:51:16Michael Lawler.
00:51:18At least you kept your first name.
00:51:20Nice picture.
00:51:22Give us that.
00:51:23Give us it.
00:51:34I know you're Uncle Frank, all right?
00:51:38Group next door to him.
00:51:40Well, I don't think that council's being related.
00:51:45Jesus, Miriam.
00:51:52I've known Frank all my life.
00:51:55And he used to tell me about Victor Kelly over in New York.
00:52:01He built him up as this kind of big-time, safe, cracking, gangster, good fella girl.
00:52:08And you believed him?
00:52:10Yeah.
00:52:12I wanted to believe him.
00:52:13You must have been disappointed.
00:52:17Yeah, I was.
00:52:19Bit early disappointed.
00:52:23But I know where else to go, Miriam.
00:52:28You're not going to tell him, are you?
00:52:31I mean, don't tell him until after I hear about his job, will you?
00:52:35He's been very good to me.
00:52:40Yeah, well, we'll see.
00:52:43I gotta go to lunch.
00:52:59Sorry.
00:53:13So, what happened to Sally?
00:53:17I liked her better when I was living in myself.
00:53:21It'll be okay.
00:53:22Dee has to move to some kind of hospital.
00:53:27It could be I'm not able to take care of her for a while.
00:53:30Why?
00:53:30What's wrong?
00:53:31I don't know.
00:53:32She doesn't want to be with the nuns anymore, I guess.
00:53:34She doesn't want to be anywhere.
00:53:36That's it.
00:53:37She has to move.
00:53:43Okay.
00:53:44What's the matter with you?
00:53:46Nothing.
00:53:50If it is a fill,
00:53:55you keep an eye on her, okay?
00:54:05I don't know.
00:54:06No.
00:54:10THE END
00:54:38How you doing?
00:54:38Hey guys, what's up?
00:54:39Hey, the drinks have been okay from Arthur?
00:54:40Oh yeah, fine. Everything went well.
00:54:43When are you going to get rid of these?
00:54:44These VCRs?
00:54:46When I sell them all, is that alright?
00:54:49I guess so.
00:54:50I guess so.
00:54:51Have a good shift, guys.
00:54:52Yeah, take care now.
00:54:53Good night.
00:55:03Okay.
00:55:04Party time.
00:55:07Don't piss off any dogs.
00:55:21Why are you asking about the truck?
00:55:23I'm asking every week about the truck. What are you talking about?
00:55:25Every week? I'm with you every week.
00:55:26Listen, relax, alright?
00:55:28You've just got to be cool tonight.
00:55:30Yeah, yeah, I am being cool.
00:55:31Shh.
00:55:32Look at the truck.
00:55:35Ask him every week.
00:55:37Yeah.
00:55:40Shit.
