00:17This damn hospital in the Midwest I
00:21Understand you don't want the world to know about your prime diagnosis
00:24But that doesn't mean you can blow off your follow-up appointments. Did they find a cure?
00:27It's a mistake not to deal with this my mistake was getting tested at gaffney because I didn't know you
00:32would be sent the results
00:36Oh
00:36Ma this is beautiful
00:39Well, I have found myself with time on my hands for the first time in years wait, is this my
00:46janet jackson t-shirt?
00:48It is
00:49There's something from every member of the family on there so you can take us with you when you go

01:28coat
01:33Good morning
01:35How are you so perky after last night? I don't seem to remember you complaining
01:41I think around two I might have started listen
01:45There's this dive bar. I want to go to tonight. It's in canaryville. It's a biker bar. Oh
01:50I was thinking more like a bowl of popcorn and some office reruns
01:54I feel like life is meant to be lived. Yeah, it's the it's the living that's killing me. It's getting
02:00a little bit out of control
02:02Oh, well, I think control is a little bit
02:06Overrated who even are you? Oh, you don't remember? Oh, okay
02:12Get dressed overnight was slammed with a gas explosion. We're short surgeons
02:17All right, it'll just have to wait till the biker bar
02:21There is something else happening
02:25Connie is pregnant
02:29She's
02:31Wow, oh, that's wonderful
02:34Well, it would even be more wonderful if I
02:39Ever met her. No, no, I know. I know you will soon
02:43Um, it's just that she she carries a marker for Tay-Sachs
02:49Which isn't a worry if I'm in the clear, but the genetic test wasn't conclusive
02:55So I need a family medical history. Okay
03:00I
03:01I see I
03:03Was hoping to get in touch with my biological father if
03:07If you knew you know, I I have an address, but
03:12That's been years, baby
03:15I mean, I could get another genetic test, but the doctors they say that the you should have a full
03:21family history
03:22Yeah
03:24Yeah
03:27Yeah
03:29Call me
03:30Yeah, Cody Medivor 17 collapsed at camp apparently had a full-on seizure
03:36Sorry to hear that. Cody, I'm Dr. Howard. What were you doing before the seizure happened?
03:40We were at practice. I got tackled
03:42Um, he was seen here two weeks ago for a concussion. Yeah, I'm thinking post-concussive syndrome
03:48Second one. Yeah, I agree
03:51Doris has contacted your parents, but in the meantime, let's get you into a gown, okay? I have to go
03:56Hey, it's gonna be okay. No, I have to get back
03:59Cody. Oh, he's seizing again. Let's get him on his side
04:04Get him two of Ativan, four of Zofran, all right?
04:10We got a major MVC, three critical coming in, all hands on deck. Dr. Rickley, you're up. Trauma one
04:18In a minivan, this is a flatbed truck full of rebar, head on, eight-year-old male on a restrained,
04:23right arm fracture, impelment, degloving on the right leg, tourniquet was applied for pulsatile bleeding
04:27Gonna need a surgeon? You've got one. Let's give one gram ANSEP, and we gotta get that tourniquet off and
04:31save his leg
04:32The tourniquet's been on for over an hour. Well, why don't start worrying until at least six?
04:35Dr. Howard, you're with me, Dr. Ripley, on to the next
04:40Trauma two, 13-year-old female, her feet were up on the dash, deformity of bilateral tib-fibs, heart rate
04:47112, BP-109, number 62
04:49Okay, I'll help. All fractures closed, let's get some labs and then off to CT for pan scan
04:56Trauma three
04:59Female, late 30s, helmets in the neck and abdomen, I can see that. Oh, she conscious, she keeps calling out
05:04for her kids
05:05Gave 50 fentanyl on route, heart rate 115, BP-100 over 60
05:09I guess we're waiting for the driver of the truck? Well, he walked away from it
05:12Yeah, lucky hit
05:13All right, hang two units, pack cells, please
05:15All right, I'm sorry if this is uncomfortable
05:19All right
05:21No!
05:23We need x-rays fast, and let's get her to the OR, please
05:27We don't have one, Lennox took the last OR upstairs
05:29Oh, well, Ben, just cancel elect the surgery
05:31Already did, it's all the gas explosion
05:33All right, then we'll just do it here
05:35Uh, okay, I'll get set up
05:37Come on
05:37Colin, Sarah, please, please, my children
05:57Hey, Dr. Charles
06:00Dr. Mitch Ripley
06:02Welcome back
06:03Thank you, buddy
06:05Don't you have a another week in rehab?
06:08I opted for outpatient, you know, just going crazy
06:11Want to get back to work? Miss you guys
06:13Back in charge
06:14Well, not officially, I still got a couple of those, you know, boilerplate cognitive tests to pass
06:20Well, whatever the case, just glad to have you back
06:23You know that, uh, Dr. Rabari has a very different style
06:26Really?
06:28Yeah
06:29Anyway, let's, uh, let's catch up later
06:31Uh, I got a patient
06:32Okay
06:32Go forth, heel, young man
06:36Welcome back
06:36Theo
06:37Am I wrong, or are you, uh, are you back a little early?
06:40Maybe a bit, but it's the craziest thing, man
06:42I just feel like a million bucks
06:44I mean, Sam and Dean, that, that cranial bypass is, it's incredible
06:49I'm thrilled to see you
06:50And listen, I also appreciate you filling in, really
06:53But I promise you, I'm ready and raring to go
06:56Well, hopefully you can tolerate a little power-sharing agreement
06:59I look forward to it
07:01All right
07:01Excuse me, gentlemen
07:02I need a signature to discharge the schizophrenic hot dog
07:15Welcome back
07:16Thank you
07:18So, Cody, you were here two weeks ago and you saw Dr. Rabari
07:23Who diagnosed you with a probable concussion and did not clear you to play
07:27Yeah, I, my dad, uh, took us to our, um, family doctor and he cleared me
07:35Now, was that a family doctor or did you just find one that would clear you?
07:39You don't understand
07:41I have to do this camp
07:43All the college scouts are there and I have to get a scholarship or I have to, uh
07:49Okay
07:50Hey, hey, hey, Cody, it's all right
07:54Breathe for me, all right
07:58Look, here's what we can do
08:01Okay, we can get you a CT scan and then we can talk about it
08:06And that's a whole lot that you're taking on though, buddy
08:10Dr. Asher, Dr. Ripley
08:13What happened?
08:14I'm here
08:15She crashed in imaging, she became unresponsive, hypotensive and tacky
08:18They had to intubate
08:19Okay, did they get any images in CT?
08:21They got part of it done
08:22Tech said that she's got free fluid in her abdomen, but they don't know where it's coming from
08:25She's bleeding into her belly, we need a trauma surgeon and an OR
08:28And we've got neither
08:35Hey, trying to do surgery here
08:37So are we?
08:38We'll need your help
08:43More suction please, I need to see the field
08:46Over here, please
08:47Sorry, not a surgical nurse
08:49Yeah, just suck better
08:51How's it going over there?
08:53We've got six laps in the space of Rhetseus
08:55I'm still suctioning quite a bit
08:57Dean, her pressure's better, but there's still a lot of sarasanguinous fluid in the field
09:01It's likely a bladder injury, use methylene blue to find the tear
09:04Okay, pickups
09:07Okay
09:09Okay, yep, found it
09:11Rio Vicro, please
09:13VX are controlled, no further bleeding
09:15I think we are good to remove
09:18All right, here we go
09:23BP's still dropping
09:24Hold this, damn it
09:25You're missing something here
09:27Okay, almost done, closing the daughter's bladder
09:29No, no, no, no, just hold it a minute
09:31I'm still unstable, but nothing's bleeding intra-abdominally
09:34How deep was the rebar?
09:36Looks like it went through the cervical cuff
09:38She's likely bleeding vaginally, so grab a balloon catheter and put it in her pelvis
09:42Good thought, thank you
09:45She's hemorrhaging, unpacked clean liver
09:49I don't see anything glaring
09:51That'd be retroperitoneal
09:52What are we missing?
09:54Dean, what are we missing?
09:56One second, come on over
09:59Okay, mobilize the ascending colon up to the liver along the white line of tolt
10:03Okay, found it, the bleeding is coming deep under the liver
10:06We're on our fourth MCP pack
10:08We need to start our levithead
10:09Yeah, she put a Reboa in
10:10Yeah, give me a Reboa
10:12Brady-cardigan hypotensive
10:14I'm not feeling a femoral pulse
10:16Okay, we need more blood
10:17Step, starting compressions
10:19Should we do a shunt?
10:21No, no, no, no, don't
10:21Never works, she usually stabilizes after the Reboa
10:24Giving one of Epi
10:28Come on
10:29Come on
10:32I can't get arterial access
10:36Come on, we'll get you
10:38It's a Nina Kava injury, she throws too much blood
10:44Hannah
10:46Hannah
10:58Time of death 1143
11:06The father is here
11:14Mr. Bennett
11:19Yes
11:21What is happening?
11:23I just know there was an accident with a truck and but
11:28What is happening?
11:29I'm Dr. Asher, this is Dr. Ripley
11:32Your wife, your son and your daughter were brought in this morning
11:36Your daughter initially presented with broken legs but
11:48She was later discovered to have severe internal bleeding
11:54We attempted to repair her injuries
11:58But we weren't able to do so
12:02And she died
12:05I am so sorry
12:28I was supposed to be the one driving today
12:30I was supposed to be there
12:33It should have been me
12:35It should have been
12:37Our trauma surgeon Dr. Archer has stabilized your wife
12:41And he's currently working on repairing the injuries
12:44Your son is still in the OR
12:46And Madeline here can take you upstairs
12:50We can go up whenever you're ready, Mr. Bennett
13:10Hey, do we have imaging back on Cody Medaver, the football player in four?
13:15Hello
13:17What's going on?
13:19Uh, you haven't heard who came in?
13:21Who?
13:22Dr. Howard's boyfriend
13:24Naomi's?
13:25Yeah
13:26He's a rock climbing instructor and a marathoner
13:29It's great
13:30What's he in for?
13:31Falling off a rock?
13:33He gashed his arm with a circular saw
13:34He needs stitches but we don't have a dock available
13:37In his spare time he builds houses for orphans
13:40That's great
13:41You know, I've got a minute, maybe I can stitch him up
13:47Mr. Bennett
13:48Yes
13:49Dr. Archer, I've been working on your wife
13:53We've successfully repaired the injuries to her neck and abdomen
13:56She's not completely out of the woods yet
13:57But she's stable and uh, is looking fairly good at the moment
14:01Oh god
14:05Thank you
14:06Yeah
14:08Thank you
14:09Of course, of course
14:13Oh, we uh, we fought
14:18Last words I said
14:21They were in anger
14:24I have so much that I need to say
14:27No, I understand, I understand
14:29If things continue to go well, you'll get that chance to say it
14:34Thank you
14:36So Sam, you're thinking the seizures are not neurological
14:39There's no brain bleed, there's no acute or chronic subdural
14:43Doesn't rule out a concussion or a post-concussion syndrome, which is primarily physiological
14:47But there's nothing neurological
14:49It could be second impact syndrome
14:51Which would not show up on Cody's CT
14:53An fMRI could determine which area of the brain is affected and then we can treat it accordingly
14:58What are you thinking, John?
15:00My gut is something else is going on here
15:04The kid was sobbing during his intake
15:06Mm-hmm
15:07Well, emotional ability is a symptom of concussion and post-concussion syndrome
15:11You notice any emotionality when he came in a couple weeks ago?
15:15Just what is consistent with a concussion, Dr. Charles, as I noted in the chart
15:21The seizures are new this time and not a common PCS symptom
15:24I know
15:25I just feel like there's something here beyond the physical
15:30Why don't I have a chat?
15:31I'll go talk to the kids, the parents and see what I can dig up
15:34Yeah, would you talk to me?
15:36Yeah, that's a good idea
15:36Have a chat
15:49Pretty impressive gash here
15:51Circular saw you said, right?
15:53Those things are dangerous
15:54It's true
15:56It was a volunteer at the job site
15:58And we get volunteers, they mean well, but
16:01This guy let the saw get away from him
16:03I had to jump down from the second floor and stop that thing from hurting somebody
16:09Jumped down two stories to save someone from a saw
16:12Wow, that's uh, that's intense
16:16You know, we get pretty hardcore around here too, to be honest
16:20I had this girl in here a while back
16:23Severe anaphylaxis, right?
16:24Just hornet, stings all over her face
16:27And I had to go
16:29Find her bunny in her tree house
16:32This kid had a crush on her as a thing
16:34Oh, that's amazing
16:35Going the extra mile
16:37Yeah, so I gotta ask
16:39Why'd you come all the way into Gaffney to get sewn up?
16:41My girlfriend works here
16:44Maybe you know her, Dr. Naomi Howard?
16:47Yeah, Naomi
16:48Um, no, she's great
16:51You're dating a surgeon though, that's uh
16:53That's brave
16:55Brave?
16:56Wow
16:57I mean, just so you know
16:59I mean, surgical residents
17:00They really have like zero time for a personal life
17:04And surgeons in general
17:05They just, they seem to have a tougher time keeping relationships down
17:09And this one doctor that I work with?
17:11Three ex-wives
17:15Wait, Dr. Frost
17:18Naomi's told me about you, you're the child actor
17:23Yep
17:23Yeah, that's me
17:25She really likes you
17:26It's great to meet you
17:29You too
17:35Cody
17:36That's Caleb
17:38Cody's brother
17:40He was in the cafe
17:41Coach Strain brought him over from the camp
17:43When they didn't let him ride along in the ambulance
17:45That was nice of the coach
17:47It was nice of the coach coming to the hospital too
17:49Yeah, we've known him forever
17:50He was Cody's coach in youth league too
17:54They seem really close
17:56They're inseparable
17:57Caleb was at the camp too?
17:59He was just watching
18:00He's Cody's biggest fan
18:02How's Cody feeling about the camp, do you think?
18:04I mean, is he still
18:05Passionate about playing football
18:07As excited about it as he's always been?
18:09More than ever
18:09Football's his life
18:10Well, the concussion slowed him down a bit
18:13You mean the first one two weeks ago
18:16Matter of fact, you know, my colleague Dr. Rabari
18:19Who examined him didn't actually clear him to play
18:22Just had his bell rung, no big deal
18:24Anyway, Ellen, you mentioned that you thought that the first concussion
18:27Had slowed him down a little bit
18:29What did you mean by that?
18:30Well, I just worried that
18:31She didn't mean anything
18:34Okay, because it's just that, you know, concussions can cause
18:37A little emotional dysregulation
18:40You know, and that's not something that you
18:42What are you even talking about?
18:44What I'm talking about is that Dr. Frost, who did the intake this time
18:49He thought that he detected a little anxiety
18:51On Cody's part about continuing to play football
18:54Which frankly makes sense to me
18:56Given that it looks like he's had his second concussion in two weeks
19:01Was there something you wanted to add?
19:03There is one thing, Cody
19:07He started waiting in the bed again
19:09Helen, are you out of your mind?
19:12Cody
19:12Cody
19:15BP and heart rate are spiking
19:17Okay, let's turn them
19:17Yeah, come on
19:18Two more Ativan
19:19Grandma kept her IV
19:21Copy
19:21Love you, Cody
19:23It's all right, Cody, we got you
19:27Hey, Mom
19:32Hey
19:35What happened? Was he there?
19:38He was
19:39He still lives there with his wife
19:40Their son opened the door
19:42That was weird
19:43That was weird
19:44We could be twins
19:45Hmm
19:46And did he agree to fill out the medical history questionnaire?
19:50He did
19:52So that's good
19:55But something happened
19:57No, nothing happened
19:59I can see it all over your face
20:06He told me to never contact him again
20:08As far as he was concerned, I wasn't his son
20:13Wow
20:16I'm sorry, David
20:18I explained to him the questionnaire was for the baby
20:21But he shrugged it off
20:23His own grandchild
20:24He walked away from us and we're both better for it
20:29Yeah
20:32You know, son, it's the people who love us
20:36Who shape who we are
20:43Thanks, Mom
20:46Colin is alive
20:47The rebar has been removed
20:49But there's a mismatch right now between the graft and the artery in his leg
20:53Which means there's not sufficient blood flow to his foot
20:55And he is at risk of losing his right leg
20:57So I'd like to go back in and do a bypass
21:01Okay, but um, is that risky?
21:04Well, he's a child and it means more surgeries
21:08And there is always risk
21:09But if this works, we will save his leg
21:14If it works
21:16Well, I believe it will work
21:21Alternatively, we could amputate now with less risk
21:26Well, yeah, then that
21:28No more risk
21:32Mr. Bennett
21:33I understand why you say that
21:36But please consider if you're making this decision for you, not for him
21:45I'm sorry, excuse me
21:48He's an eight-year-old boy
21:49He might want his leg the rest of his life
21:51But
21:52You want more time with him, of course
21:54But nobody knows how much time they have
21:58So it's about the life we live while we have it
22:01And saving his leg will give him the best chance at his best life
22:15Okay
22:18Okay
22:38Hey
22:39No time for fun. I gotta go save a leg.
22:43Yeah, about that.
22:45The father doesn't want that.
22:47He just wants his son to live.
22:50And he will, with both legs.
22:53You don't know that.
22:54You are taking an unnecessary risk.
22:56I'm taking a necessary risk.
22:58No, you're being reckless.
23:00Look, you are all impulse these days, all id,
23:03and maybe it's fun at the bar or in bed,
23:06but you are letting your life mess with your work.
23:11That's really more your thing.
23:13You need to amputate and save his life.
23:15And is that your opinion as a surgeon?
23:28Cody, I'm Dr. Charles, and I work with Dr. Frodo.
23:31I'm fine.
23:33I don't need, uh...
23:35I'm fine.
23:40Tough day, huh?
23:42Yeah, I just didn't need to be cleaned up like a baby.
23:44I get it.
23:45Do you mind if I sit for a bit?
23:48Sure.
23:50Hospitals can be a challenging environment, right?
23:52All the poking and prodding.
23:55People getting up on your grill.
23:57Yeah, tell me about it.
23:59Yeah.
24:00And you've also just, you've had a really...
24:03You've had a hell of a couple of weeks.
24:05You know, first the concussion, before this big camp, you know, and all that, uh, all that pressure.
24:11The camp's not really that much pressure.
24:14I'm one of the best players there.
24:16Oh.
24:17I'm glad to hear that.
24:18And, uh, how about this latest bump on the head?
24:21How you doing?
24:22You all right?
24:23Yeah, I'm fine.
24:24Look, the thing about concussions, Cody, is that sometimes they can really stretch our emotional resilience.
24:29You know, make us extremely sensitive.
24:32All right, like, all of a sudden, these big, huge feelings can just, like, come up out of nowhere.
24:39Even maybe feelings we haven't felt in a while.
24:43And the seizures can be part of post-concussion syndrome, right?
24:47But they can also be a symptom of PTSD, right?
24:51And we call those functional seizures or psychogenic non-epileptic seizures.
24:56And the way we tell the difference is that with the first kind of seizure, person's eyes are usually open.
25:04But with the psychogenic seizures, the ones that are sometimes a symptom of PTSD, person's eyes are almost always closed.
25:13And I couldn't help noticing that during this last seizure you just had, that your eyes were closed.
25:20Uh-huh.
25:21And so, if you don't mind, I just, I really wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't ask you.
25:27Is something troubling you from your past that's been coming up lately?
25:39Something maybe involving your dad?
25:42It's not my dad.
25:44Okay.
25:46But it's someone.
25:51Coach, Coach Drain gave him a ride.
25:55Gave who a ride?
25:58Caleb.
26:01He was at camp with me watching me play.
26:04But they wouldn't take him in the ambulance, so...
26:07Coach Drain gave him a ride to the hospital.
26:10Wait, that was really upsetting to you.
26:15I can handle that stuff, but...
26:18If something were to happen to Caleb...
26:27Coach Drain, he was your youth coach, too.
26:31Right back when you were younger.
26:35He used to keep me after practice.
26:39In the locker room.
26:41He took me to his house.
26:45When I was...
26:49Eleven...
26:49Twelve.
26:55Because...
26:57Because he called me his...
26:58He called me his...
27:02Special boy.
27:08I never thought I would have to see him again.
27:16Cody, I'm...
27:18So sorry...
27:20That you had to go through that.
27:29Come in.
27:37Spencer Cook.
27:39You know, you could have given me a heads up...
27:42That you were sending your son to my home.
27:44I didn't sin, David.
27:46David's a grown man who had some medical questions for his biological father.
27:51My wife was home.
27:52My son.
27:54And so...
27:55Your family are unaware that you had a child 46 years ago?
28:01Oh, I see.
28:03That's why you treated David so poorly.
28:06No, that...
28:07That questionnaire was just an excuse to knock on my front door.
28:12He wanted something from me that I can't give him.
28:16You know, I think all David was really looking for is a little compassion.
28:24I think he wanted to look you in the eye and see if he could find just a little piece
28:31of him and you.
28:34There wasn't any.
28:35No surprise to me, but he had to see that for himself.
28:41Yeah, coming here was a bad idea.
28:43Mm.
28:44You know...
28:46My son is a beautiful soul.
28:50It's a shame you can't see that.
28:56Let today be the last time I see either one of you.
28:59I already have a family.
29:01When you told me you didn't want one.
29:04No, I just didn't want one with you.
29:06Ah.
29:06Well, both David and I, thank you for that.
29:11Close the door on your way out.
29:26Mr. Bennett?
29:29Uh, Dr. Lennox is still finishing up, but, uh, I wanted to come let you know your son came through
29:35well.
29:36Oh.
29:37She did it.
29:39Yes.
29:40Yeah, she and the team saved her son's leg.
29:43He should regain full use of it.
29:45Oh.
29:47She really did it.
29:49Yeah.
29:51She's a damn good surgeon.
29:53Dr. Lennox.
29:54Uh, Mr. Bennett, your son is being moved to recovery now, although he will have to stay in our PICU
29:59for the next few weeks, and your wife is in the ICU.
30:02I imagine she will wake soon, and you can talk to her when she's been extubated.
30:13So...
30:14Thank you so much.
30:20You told him how hard it was to be in a relationship with a surgeon, and you know doctors with
30:24four ex-wives?
30:25No.
30:25I-I think I said three ex-
30:27It was a bad attempt at small talk.
30:29All right, I-
30:30No, I know exactly what you're doing, and it's not fair.
30:33You had an opening, and you didn't take it, and I'm sorry, but time moves along, and life goes with
30:37it.
30:37Naomi.
30:40I made a mistake.
30:42Okay?
30:42I-I made a huge mistake, and it sucks.
30:45Because I-I can be really bad at this.
30:47I can be really awkward, and...
30:49I don't know how to say the things people are supposed to say all the time.
30:56I get that I'm not him.
30:58I-I'm not 6'2", and jacked, and-and annoyingly nice to everyone, or build homes for orphans.
31:04Oh, it's gotta be said though, apparently not that well, because I did put eight stitches in him to-
31:08Besides point, I'm doing it again.
31:11Look...
31:11Uh-huh.
31:15I get why you're with him.
31:17And it is selfish of me, and-and I'm sorry, but...
31:21I wish that you weren't.
31:25Well, I'm-I'm sorry.
31:28John, I-
31:29Uh-huh.
31:37Okay.
31:39I'm sorry, um, is it alright if-
31:41Yeah, absolutely, of course, yeah.
31:42She should be awake soon.
31:44Yeah.
31:57Oh, baby.
32:00Baby, I'm so sorry.
32:04Sarah's gone.
32:08But Colin...
32:10Colin, he made it.
32:12And we're gonna get through this together.
32:15I'm gonna quit my job.
32:18And I'm gonna be the best dad and husband I can be.
32:24From now on, I promise you.
32:26Uh-
32:30She's hemorrhaging from her abdomen.
32:32Wait, what-what-what?
32:33I need a laparotomy train here!
32:35Sir, I'm so sorry, but could you step back?
32:37God.
32:38Alright.
32:40We're not losing you today.
32:42Bradycardic and hypotensive.
32:47Need some blood.
32:50Asystole.
32:51Billy.
32:52Bagger.
32:57One of Epi.
33:04Epi's in.
33:11It's still asystolic.
33:13My Broadway tray is here.
33:14Do you want to open her up?
33:21No.
33:21No.
33:23She's too coagulopathic.
33:26It's...
33:27Nothing we can do.
33:30Time of death.
33:311803.
33:33Come open now.
33:47This is happening really fast.
33:49Yeah.
33:51Cody, really important to me that you understand that Dr. Frost and I are what's called mandated reporters.
33:57Okay?
33:58That means that we are required by law to report abuse.
34:01They've got Coach Strain in custody.
34:03Okay?
34:04He'll never be able to hurt anyone ever again.
34:08I guess I'm done playing football for good, right?
34:11Why'd you say that?
34:13I can't play without having a seizure.
34:18I'm broken.
34:20Look.
34:21I totally get that that's what it feels like right now.
34:24Okay?
34:26But, buddy, you're suffering from PTSD.
34:28And PTSD is treatable.
34:31Look, we've got to find somebody that you're comfortable talking to.
34:34And then you've got to be patient.
34:36All right?
34:36Because it takes a while.
34:37But I guarantee you, if you stick with it,
34:41I'm gonna get better.
34:43You can play football as long as you still love the game, Cody.
34:48And you are absolutely going to have a life on the other side of this.
34:52I promise you that.
34:55I don't know.
34:56I do.
34:58You do?
34:59Cody, I know that.
35:01Okay? Trust me on that.
35:08Cody!
35:15I'll get you a list of resources, okay?
35:17Yeah.
35:18Yeah.
35:33They're all alone now.
35:37You okay?
35:40No.
35:42You?
35:42No.
35:44I will be.
35:49And how do you bring a child into a world where things like this happen?
35:54I do not know.
35:57So leave a faith, I guess.
36:02But he's a single father now.
36:06What does he say to his son?
36:10Where does he even begin?
36:13Hopefully he says all the things he left unsaid.
36:18All the things he couldn't say.
36:29Michael, I'm making your quilt next.
36:32Watch out.
36:32She'll probably put in something embarrassing like your Boyz II Men t-shirt.
36:36I'm not embarrassed by that at all.
36:38Hey, Mom.
36:39Oh, look who came after all.
36:42Hey.
36:43Connie flew in to surprise me.
36:44Hi, I'm Connie.
36:46Oh, yeah.
36:46It's a pleasure to meet you.
36:48So good to meet you at last.
36:54Well, what's this?
36:56It's not my party.
36:58Open it.
37:01It's your granddaughter.
37:02Daughter?
37:03David.
37:05Congratulations, bro.
37:06My granddaughter.
37:12How do you walk away from that?
37:15By not seeing past yourself.
37:18Isaiah, can you say hi?
37:20Yeah.
37:22Connie and I have decided to name her after you.
37:26Oh.
37:27Come on, you can name her anything.
37:30You sure you want to saddle her with Sharon?
37:33It's a strong name that'll honor the strongest person I know.
37:38Then I approve.
37:42Thank you, son.
37:56Beer.
38:00I haven't seen you around here before.
38:05Yeah, I'm, uh, new.
38:09I'm talented.
38:11A pretty boy like you in a place like this?
38:14He got a pair on you.
38:18Well, maybe you'd like to find out.
38:22Are you saying you think I'm easy?
38:24I don't know, are you?
38:27Hey, buddy.
38:29Why don't you back off?
38:31Oh, uh, no, it's not like that.
38:34We're good.
38:35This guy bothering you, lady?
38:37You know, what if he was?
38:39Well, I'll take care of her for you.
38:41What?
38:41You do that for me.
38:43There's nothing to take care of.
38:43That is so nice of you.
38:44Thank you so much.
38:46No.
38:46I don't.
38:47You don't have to do that.
38:48Take your hands off of me.
38:50Oh, no.
38:52No!
38:53No!
38:55We gotta go.
38:58What's wrong with you?
39:03Hey.
39:04Hey.
39:05Um, I forgot something.
39:07What?
39:14That.
39:17Wow.
39:18Um, what happened to, you know, a super handsome build's house for orphans guy?
39:26Uh, we broke up.
39:27Really?
39:29How'd he take it?
39:30Really well.
39:32He likes you.
39:33Um, he thinks you're great and wishes us well.
39:37Of course he does.
39:51No, no.
39:52No.
39:54Mm-mm.
39:54Mitch.
39:55No, no, no, no.
39:56No.
39:57No.
39:57See, this is my apartment and it's not even midnight yet.
40:01Actually, almost one.
40:03Okay.
40:03Well.
40:05Here.
40:06Then.
40:07After you.
40:08Um, I-I think I'm actually gonna head home.
40:13Oh!
40:14No.
40:14Legally you can't do that because you defended my honor and now you have to claim your prize.
40:21Yes.
40:23Kaelin.
40:26I don't know what's going on with you, but it's something.
40:31This has gone from fun to a little terrifying actually.
40:38It's like you're, I don't know, dancing faster and faster.
40:44Afraid the music's gonna stop.
40:46You know?
40:49What's going on with you?
40:51What are you-what are you afraid of?
40:56I just don't wanna be boring right now.
40:59Don't be boring.
41:02Yeah.
41:03Okay.
41:05Goodnight.
41:08Come on!
