Transcript
00:00:11You
00:00:11Yo, ever since I was a kid I've been obsessed with the movie over now. It's only the best Christmas
00:00:16film ever made
00:00:18Watching Kevin McAllister setting up a bunch of ingenious booby traps to defeat burglars Harry and Marv was the coolest
00:00:24thing in the world
00:00:25I bet it's one big question could the wet bandits actually have survived eye-watering injuries like this in real
00:00:32life
00:00:33Well, we need answers
00:00:38So Gus and I have headed to the studio and with help from engineer Zoe
00:00:45We'll be recreating the booby traps from home alone to find out just how dangerous they really are
00:00:50Kevin you're dead
00:00:54Irreversible damage you might die
00:00:57Along the way we'll play some of our own pranks and delve deep into the science of the stunts
00:01:02It's gonna excite the atoms to figure out how we could survive them and actually catch Kevin or at least
00:01:08this kid who sort of looks like Kevin
00:01:10Yeah, and all of Alex Brooker's Christmases have come at once
00:01:14Because he's off on a trip of a lifetime to meet the actors
00:01:17I wish your friends lots of luck and stuntmen from the field
00:01:22Look how happy he is
00:01:24So if watching two grown men being smacked with paint cans getting electrocuted and generally screaming a lot all in
00:01:30the name of science
00:01:31It's your sort of thing. Well, Merry Christmas. You filthy animals
00:01:36This is the unofficial science of home alone
00:01:48Gus, can you believe sky have built us our very own
00:01:52Home alone inspired house
00:01:56Ready to be filled with traps
00:01:58They could have put a roof on it. Yeah, roof aside. It's beautiful
00:02:02It's got everything we need to achieve our goal
00:02:05Which is to learn how to survive all the traps in home alone in real life get through that house
00:02:10and catch that smug little brat Kevin
00:02:13I'm sure you are going to do brilliantly at that guys stay here. We are in this together
00:02:18Or not at all
00:02:20Together
00:02:22Let's do this
00:02:27Wow
00:02:31Right now we got decide what chats we're gonna do obvious one
00:02:35The flaming door hand yes, and how about that paint into the face?
00:02:40Oh
00:02:42Blowtorch to the head in the kitchen
00:02:44Oh, I like that one. How about when the geezer's in the basement and he was getting electrocuted and he
00:02:48turned into a skeleton?
00:02:50And then bit of fun at the end. Yes, we go down the zip wire
00:02:55Yes
00:02:58It just occurred to me I mean we could die doing this we could die doing all the book I
00:03:04got to go to Chicago and meet the cast
00:03:08This is without doubt the best job I've ever had in fact
00:03:12I think it's the best Christmas present I've ever had I have been obsessed with home alone ever since I
00:03:17was a kid and I'm still obsessed with it now
00:03:19I spent five days last year building a McAllister house out of Lego
00:03:23I've got an artwork of the house in my living room and every day the alarm on my phone is
00:03:29a music from home alone
00:03:30Literally I wake up every day thinking of the film because it gives me so much joy
00:03:35I love it so much and now I'm fulfilling a life's ambition by flying out to the states to visit
00:03:42some of the iconic locations
00:03:43Meet some of the people involved in making the film and learn a little bit more about the stunts and
00:03:48traps that Gus and James are going to be doing back in the studio
00:03:51I've had an absolute result. Merry Christmas
00:03:57Right we've figured out what stunts want to do from the film. Yes
00:04:01Now we've got to figure out how to best them so we can get that little brat Kevin
00:04:06I want to mash that kid up
00:04:07I want to mash him up
00:04:09But here's the thing you and I aren't scientists or engineers we don't know how to make any of that
00:04:14safe
00:04:14That's true
00:04:15So look who we brought in. Zoe's here
00:04:23So we need to test each trap
00:04:25Find out what damage it would do in real life
00:04:28Figure out how science can help us survive it
00:04:30Then test it out for real at the end of the show
00:04:33The fact you even want to try them
00:04:35It is slightly foolhardy
00:04:37To do these as you would see them in the film
00:04:39It's incredibly dangerous
00:04:41That dangerous scale of 1 to 10
00:04:4210
00:04:43These are lethal
00:04:44What? 10?
00:04:45You even have to think about that
00:04:4610
00:04:46Straight to 10
00:04:47Risk to life
00:04:48Yep
00:04:48Risk to life 10
00:04:50Those traps are deadly
00:04:51Where do you want to begin?
00:04:53Four words
00:04:54Blowtorch to the head
00:05:05Then I see it's very, very old
00:05:09Just enough
00:05:09I think it's going to be a really, really good thing
00:05:12Yeah
00:05:12The blowtorch to the head is one of the most brutal booby traps in Home Alone
00:05:17So how do a bunch of kiddie boffins think you're surviving?
00:05:21Dead kid
00:05:22This is the best power
00:05:35Is that some fire?
00:05:38It would so hurt
00:05:40I can't even describe it
00:05:42What would you wear to protect your head from the fire?
00:05:44So he's only wearing a hat
00:05:46And that doesn't look like it protected him very much
00:05:48Maybe plastic ball or something?
00:05:50That can, like, melt
00:05:51I would put, like, a metal helmet on it
00:05:54To, like, protect your head
00:05:56I would not go in there
00:05:59All useless suggestions
00:06:01If we're actually going to survive this horrendous contraption
00:06:04Then first, we need to know what damage it would actually do
00:06:10Start with that
00:06:11No, definitely
00:06:12We've got to know how to be safe with this
00:06:14We've got to know how to, like, use a blowtorch
00:06:16And for it all to be above board
00:06:18So that we survive it
00:06:19Shield your eyes, buddy
00:06:20Hey, hey, whoa
00:06:22I've got a plan
00:06:23I have for you
00:06:25It's heavy
00:06:26Oh, God
00:06:31What is that?
00:06:32This is stunt, Harry
00:06:33The burglar
00:06:33Complete with hat
00:06:34Why has he got a face?
00:06:36It looks disgusting, bro
00:06:37This is what we're going to use
00:06:38For you to begin to see
00:06:40What the blowtorch would do in real life
00:06:42We're going to blowtorch the turkey
00:06:44Before we blowtorch this turkey
00:06:45Gas on, ignite
00:06:48Oh, no, no, no
00:06:49That's it
00:06:50Zoe, this doesn't feel right
00:06:52None of this feels good, Zoe
00:06:53This is against all of my natural instincts
00:06:56Oh, it smells so bad
00:06:57Round the front a bit
00:06:58Round the front
00:06:59Oh, it's bubbling
00:07:02Whoa
00:07:09So that's a woollen hat
00:07:11So it's not quite as flammable
00:07:12As a synthetic light polyester
00:07:14But it doesn't give you any protection
00:07:15That's clear
00:07:16Once you start to melt the fat
00:07:18That becomes a fuel
00:07:19What you're looking at here
00:07:20Is necrosis of the calvarium
00:07:23Which is death of the skin
00:07:26You said the more fat day is
00:07:28The more days to burn
00:07:28That is true, yeah
00:07:29Why are the two of us
00:07:31Am I doing it then?
00:07:36If you're going to do this for real, Gaz
00:07:37Yes
00:07:38We need to talk about protection
00:07:40Please, let's do that
00:07:43Ooh
00:07:44Dropping
00:07:45Surprisingly, a nappy is not only
00:07:46Incredibly absorbent
00:07:48It contains a polymer
00:07:50That when supersaturated
00:07:51Is also fire-retardant
00:07:53If I cut the inside of here open
00:07:57So that's cotton
00:07:58Mixed with sodium polyacrylate
00:08:01Which is this stuff
00:08:03So this white powder
00:08:04Will absorb up to 300 times
00:08:07Its own weight in water
00:08:09Oh
00:08:10I'll just scatter a bit into here
00:08:12Lovely
00:08:14Aye, aye, aye, aye, aye
00:08:17What am I seeing here?
00:08:18Where'd that liquid go?
00:08:19Dig it out for me
00:08:22Can you get it out?
00:08:23Ooh, it's warm
00:08:23Why is it warm?
00:08:24Why did you go in with that?
00:08:26It's now totally absorbed
00:08:27All the water that was in this beaker
00:08:29So how might you harness this for protection?
00:08:32How might we harness the power of a nappy
00:08:34To protect us from blowtorch danger?
00:08:36Yep
00:08:37Oh, fill it
00:08:39It needs to be wet
00:08:40Well, wet it first
00:08:41It will be
00:08:41So you could make a suit
00:08:44Essentially out of nappies
00:08:45And that would give you a layer of protection
00:08:48How good a layer of protection?
00:08:50Professional stunt performers
00:08:51Don't wear nappies
00:08:52But they do use the same material
00:08:54To protect themselves
00:08:56And they use it in a jelly form
00:08:59So this is the same stuff
00:09:00Just pulverised down
00:09:02That's going to be your base layer
00:09:03Of protection
00:09:04Like does his kids
00:09:05Who wear nappies and stuff
00:09:06Would they be safe then
00:09:07From fire and stuff like that?
00:09:08No, James
00:09:09Don't try this at home
00:09:10Even if it is wet
00:09:12Well, only in the area where the nappy is
00:09:14But theoretically
00:09:15If I covered the kid's head to toe
00:09:18With wet nappies
00:09:19Theoretically, yeah
00:09:20In practice
00:09:21Please
00:09:22Don't set fire to your children
00:09:24In a blanket of nappies
00:09:25That's dangerous
00:09:26Well, it's better in there
00:09:27Yeah
00:09:28You can really massage that in
00:09:30Over the skin
00:09:32Hair
00:09:32It'll be good for you
00:09:33You get that
00:09:36It feels real sexy
00:09:37That's it, boys
00:09:38Get really underneath it there
00:09:40There you go
00:09:42To do this in real life
00:09:43And remain safe
00:09:44I recommend a combination of factors
00:09:46You want the gel as your base layer
00:09:48And then over the top
00:09:50The silicon hood
00:09:51Which is the stunt artist's best friend
00:09:53When it comes to fire
00:09:54Silicon hood
00:09:56Is that exciting to you?
00:09:58This is exciting to me
00:09:59Still to come
00:10:00Now, what are you wearing?
00:10:01I'm off
00:10:02I've got the crowbar and everything
00:10:03Ready for my trap
00:10:04Brave boy
00:10:07That's gonna break your face
00:10:09Like smash
00:10:10It really does hurt
00:10:24This is great
00:10:25Merry Christmas, Gus
00:10:26Merry Christmas to you
00:10:29Whoa
00:10:30Yes
00:10:31Oh, that's so great
00:10:33A speak and spell
00:10:34Oh, my God
00:10:37H-R-Sketch
00:10:39H-R-Sketch
00:10:45Tell me
00:10:46I'm on techno hooks here
00:10:48A tall boy
00:10:49From the actual film
00:10:51Home Alone 2
00:10:51Lost in New York
00:10:52Are you kidding me?
00:10:53You can use that
00:10:54To check in at hotels
00:10:55And all sorts
00:10:56You can take people's voices
00:10:57And record them
00:10:58And then later on
00:10:59Play them back all slow
00:11:00And they'll get confused
00:11:01If they're stupid
00:11:05Who's that?
00:11:08Zoe?
00:11:15For a family film
00:11:16The sheer brutality
00:11:17Of what Harry and Marv go through
00:11:19Is jaw-dropping
00:11:20So I've landed in Hollywood
00:11:21To visit a man
00:11:22Who knows better than anyone
00:11:24What Gus and James
00:11:25Are about to face
00:11:26Ow!
00:11:27I'm so excited about this
00:11:28I'm here to meet Marv himself
00:11:30Daniel Stern
00:11:31I've got the coat on
00:11:32I've got the scarf
00:11:34I've got the crowbar
00:11:35I think he's going to
00:11:36Absolutely love this
00:11:37Can't wait to see
00:11:42Hi Daniel
00:11:43I'm Alex
00:11:45What
00:11:46What are you wearing?
00:11:47I've got your outfit on Marv
00:11:48I've got the crowbar
00:11:49And everything
00:11:52Shall I go and get changed?
00:11:54I think that'll be good
00:11:55Okay, no worries
00:11:56I'll go and
00:11:56I'll be back
00:11:57Okay, cool
00:11:58Good
00:12:01Daniel
00:12:01My jumper might say
00:12:03Team Kevin
00:12:03But it's such a privilege
00:12:05To meet you
00:12:06Thank you so much
00:12:07I'm very flattered
00:12:08You wanted to talk to me
00:12:09So Home Alone's been
00:12:10A massive part
00:12:11Of the last 30 years
00:12:13Of my life
00:12:14Has it been
00:12:15A massive part
00:12:16Of yours as well?
00:12:17Yeah
00:12:17It keeps going
00:12:19Every year
00:12:19It comes around again
00:12:20So at the Christmas time
00:12:22It starts again
00:12:24And it's on TV again
00:12:25And they're showing it
00:12:27On a loop
00:12:27What is it you think
00:12:29About the film
00:12:30That makes it so
00:12:32You know
00:12:33Has given it such
00:12:33A long lasting impact
00:12:34My performance
00:12:36Obviously
00:12:37I mean
00:12:39It's brilliant
00:12:41It is brilliant
00:12:42No, it was
00:12:44It was a perfect
00:12:45Again, just a perfect movie
00:12:46But to me
00:12:47The key of it
00:12:48Has always been
00:12:49The kid empowerment
00:12:50The kid's going to take on
00:12:52Scary people
00:12:53And win
00:12:54When kids watch it
00:12:55And they go
00:12:55Oh, God
00:12:56That little kid
00:12:57And they're being scary
00:12:58He got him
00:12:59He's beating him
00:13:00He's beating him
00:13:01Hello
00:13:04And the parents love it
00:13:06To see their kids
00:13:07Feel empowered like that
00:13:08I remember when me
00:13:09And my brothers
00:13:09Were younger
00:13:10And we watched it
00:13:11And we used to make
00:13:12Little plans
00:13:13And lay out
00:13:14Micromissions
00:13:15Under the windows
00:13:15And we were so desperate
00:13:16To get burgled
00:13:17And I
00:13:19We were praying
00:13:21That someone would break in
00:13:22Because it was going to be a hoot
00:13:23You're going to do it
00:13:24You're going to win
00:13:24As an adult
00:13:25When, you know
00:13:26As I kind of watch it now
00:13:27You do realize
00:13:28That actually
00:13:30It's quite violent
00:13:31What Kevin does
00:13:32Very violent
00:13:33You know
00:13:33And some of it's
00:13:34Kind of sadistic too
00:13:35Kevin
00:13:37Was a sadist
00:13:38I mean
00:13:39If you look at what he did
00:13:40To Harry and me
00:13:42He puts his head on fire
00:13:44He smashes us in the face
00:13:46He's got
00:13:47I'm attacked by spiders
00:13:48I got him
00:13:50Harry help me
00:13:51Get up
00:13:52They brought the tarantula
00:13:53On the set
00:13:54With the tarantula wrangler
00:13:56Who's like
00:13:57A wrangler?
00:13:58What do you
00:13:58How do you
00:13:58He says
00:13:59I'm just going to put
00:13:59The thing on your face
00:14:01And I'm like
00:14:02Well if it bites me
00:14:04I'll die
00:14:05You know
00:14:06Can you
00:14:06Can you take the stinger out
00:14:08And he said
00:14:09Well if I take the stinger out
00:14:10The spider will die
00:14:11And I said
00:14:12Well
00:14:13If it's between him and me
00:14:17I've got my own self-interest here
00:14:19I watched it the other day
00:14:20And the tarantula actually
00:14:21It puts its leg
00:14:23In my mouth
00:14:24Slightly
00:14:24It goes in your mouth
00:14:25Yes it does go in my mouth
00:14:26And my eye
00:14:27Yeah
00:14:28You're kind of aware
00:14:29While you're filming
00:14:29Yeah
00:14:30Oh my god
00:14:30The tarantula's got its leg
00:14:31In my mouth
00:14:32Yes I was
00:14:33I was very aware of that
00:14:34And the scream is absolutely
00:14:36I mean it's so iconic
00:14:38And it's
00:14:40It's my favourite film scream
00:14:42Of all time
00:14:49Is that how you normally scream?
00:14:52Yes it is
00:14:52If I
00:14:54You know
00:14:55If you scare me
00:14:56I will howl
00:14:57Like I want to sound like
00:14:58A woman screaming for her life
00:15:00Yeah
00:15:01That violence
00:15:02It's a comedic tradition
00:15:05In a weird way
00:15:06Isn't it?
00:15:06Yeah
00:15:07People like to laugh
00:15:08At other people getting hurt
00:15:09I don't
00:15:09I mean
00:15:10We're sick
00:15:11Sick humans
00:15:13Stuntmen are the heroes
00:15:15Of the movie
00:15:16I mean
00:15:16Of the comedy part
00:15:18Of that movie
00:15:19They just
00:15:20Took it to a whole
00:15:22Whole nother level
00:15:23It was
00:15:24It was not funny
00:15:25It was scary to watch
00:15:28It was scary to watch
00:15:28And that was the least of it
00:15:30That paint can thing
00:15:31I mean
00:15:32I think they'd had it rigged
00:15:34Where
00:15:35Like they had a safety harness
00:15:36These guys go up
00:15:37You know
00:15:38Five
00:15:38We're up five
00:15:39Six stairs or something
00:15:40They're supposed to jump back
00:15:41And they have a rig on them
00:15:43But the camera could see the rig
00:15:44Because there's no special effects
00:15:46In the movie
00:15:47Like there's no CGI
00:15:48It's all live
00:15:49It's all in the camera
00:15:50So those two guys
00:15:53They're up five steps
00:15:55The paint can comes
00:15:57They jump backwards
00:15:59And land on their backs
00:16:02Like smash
00:16:03And you just go
00:16:05Oh my god
00:16:06Are you okay
00:16:06It really does hurt
00:16:07I mean
00:16:08It's not just
00:16:09Oh that would hurt
00:16:10It really did hurt
00:16:11Them
00:16:12I was fine
00:16:13Which was the important part
00:16:15No
00:16:16It's crazy
00:16:17It was crazy to watch
00:16:18If Daniel was freaked out
00:16:20By watching stuntmen doing it
00:16:21How on earth
00:16:22Is James going to survive it for real
00:16:26Heads up
00:16:30Boo
00:16:30Use your brain
00:16:32It probably gave me
00:16:34Brain damage
00:16:35Back damage
00:16:36You know
00:16:36What I'll do is the can
00:16:37I'll put fire in the can
00:16:40I'll just go like
00:16:41Whoop
00:16:42Could put like a pillow in front
00:16:44But then you would still get like
00:16:46Knocked down
00:16:46Nothing will hurt
00:16:47This bad boy
00:16:48Yeah
00:16:53Got my rope
00:16:54Got my painting
00:16:56Ready for my trap
00:16:57Brave boy
00:16:59Not as brave as me
00:17:00I'm taking 12,000 degrees to my forehead
00:17:03Okay
00:17:03Short straw there goes
00:17:05Bad luck
00:17:05Well blowtorch
00:17:07Well blowtorch versus paint can
00:17:08I'd actually prefer to face the blowtorch
00:17:10Because you can be burnt
00:17:11And very quickly put it out
00:17:13But straight on paint can to the face
00:17:16We're talking brain damage
00:17:17I'm glad you're doing this one
00:17:19Now I'm worried about why this is here
00:17:21This is a ballistic gel head
00:17:23That's made from an agar agar jelly
00:17:26So it's vegan
00:17:26But it's a very dense jelly
00:17:28Used to simulate the human body
00:17:30In crash test scenarios
00:17:31I don't think the vegan thing comforts me at the minute
00:17:33I mean you know
00:17:34I was all for it
00:17:36But like
00:17:37Have a feel
00:17:38It's quite heavy
00:17:39It is heavy actually
00:17:40That's more solid than it looked
00:17:42And this face doesn't even have
00:17:44Like a jawbone
00:17:45Or teeth
00:17:45Or a nose to be broken
00:17:47I quite like my nose
00:17:48You know how like
00:17:49J-Lo had a bum insured
00:17:50I did that with my nose
00:17:51Did you really?
00:17:52Yeah
00:17:53Let's take him over to the test rig
00:17:54And run some experiments
00:18:00Just to confirm
00:18:01That ballistics head
00:18:02Is still a very definite representation
00:18:04Of James' actual face
00:18:06I think it's a bit smaller
00:18:08Great
00:18:08Now I've got to go on a face diet
00:18:10Don't let me stand in the way of you doing this one guys
00:18:12I can see in your eyes
00:18:14It's getting a bit appealing
00:18:15Watching the whole set up for this
00:18:16Look into my eyes
00:18:17Do my eyes look like I want to do this
00:18:19It's going to reach 17 miles per hour at the bottom
00:18:2117 miles an hour from there
00:18:23Yep
00:18:23Alright I'm ready
00:18:28Three
00:18:31Two
00:18:34One
00:18:52That's going to break your face
00:18:54Yeah that vegan head
00:18:55Is not getting up ever again in his life
00:18:57That was like a three ton van
00:19:00Slamming into you
00:19:01You
00:19:03Might die
00:19:03In my expert opinion
00:19:05For this trap
00:19:06Let's lower the rope
00:19:07So you take it on your body
00:19:08How good are your stomach muscles?
00:19:10Not great
00:19:11But I don't want to go any lower than that
00:19:17That's supposed to accurately represent
00:19:19My brother James Acaster
00:19:21I asked for the measurements
00:19:23And this is what came through
00:19:24So what I want to get an idea of now
00:19:26Is how far might you travel
00:19:29I would like to hazard a guess
00:19:30Yep
00:19:31Far
00:19:33And
00:19:35Up please
00:19:49Well done
00:19:50You like that?
00:19:51Yeah you kept that a secret
00:19:53Magic powers
00:19:53Yep
00:19:54Right this time James
00:19:55Do you want to do the honours?
00:19:57Three
00:19:57Two
00:19:58One
00:19:59Go
00:20:06What
00:20:15If that pecan hits you that hard
00:20:17Your heart is going to
00:20:18Ow
00:20:19That is better than the face
00:20:22And look
00:20:23You don't travel huge distances
00:20:26You're dead man
00:20:27It's the force I'm worried about
00:20:29If you want to see force
00:20:30I can show you force
00:20:31We can increase the weight in the can
00:20:33Then you'll see just how reasonable this can is
00:20:4025 litre can
00:20:42Hurtling towards the torso
00:20:4417 miles per hour
00:20:45The resultant impact
00:20:46This time is going to be like a
00:20:4830 ton juggernaut
00:20:49I've added some explosives to the front
00:20:52Think Christmas crackers
00:20:53Everyone loves a little bang at Christmas
00:20:55Okay here we go
00:21:08That's why I wanted to do this show
00:21:10I wanted to see bodies exploding
00:21:12And hit with massive cans
00:21:13I'll do it with that
00:21:14He'll do it with that right now
00:21:15Strap me up right now
00:21:16I don't care
00:21:17Hit me with that
00:21:18And ring me up with the explosives
00:21:23Whoa
00:21:26I've still got to do this haven't I
00:21:28A version of
00:21:29Yep
00:21:30We can make it safe
00:21:32I promise
00:21:33Serious decelerating impact protection
00:21:35Sounds safe
00:21:36Great
00:21:37If it's as high tech as that
00:21:39What no
00:21:41That's
00:21:41There you go
00:21:42That's a
00:21:44That's a pillow
00:21:45And a baking tray
00:21:46And I don't even know what that is
00:21:47Cricket pad
00:21:49I'm not Graham Gooch
00:21:51Composite
00:21:51Composite
00:21:52Core protection
00:21:54Decelerate through the padding of the pillow
00:21:57Absorb initial impact through the deformation
00:22:00Of the steel tray
00:22:01No no no
00:22:02Bake cookies
00:22:03Go to sleep
00:22:04Play a game that lasts for days for no reason
00:22:07That
00:22:08Is all that these things are designed for
00:22:11How the hell has Brooker got away with any of this
00:22:14Is on holiday
00:22:15And I'm
00:22:17Covering my torso
00:22:18With a baking tin
00:22:20Still to come
00:22:21How do we do this safely
00:22:23There are loads of different things that we do
00:22:25Hello can you come to the door please
00:22:27Are you having a giraffe
00:22:28I ain't trying to get arrested for this
00:22:43You know Guz
00:22:44When you think about it
00:22:45Home Alone is actually all about
00:22:47A greedy little boy
00:22:48And his desperate need for pizza
00:22:50Brother I don't think that's what it's about
00:22:52It clearly states in the title of the movie
00:22:54It's about a little kid
00:22:56Who's home
00:22:57Alone
00:22:58Think about it right
00:22:59First film
00:23:00Someone eats his cheese pizza
00:23:01He gets furious
00:23:02Punches his brother
00:23:03Second film
00:23:04He gets given a cheese pizza in a limousine
00:23:06He's delighted
00:23:07And who can forget the hilarious prank that he plays
00:23:09On the pizza delivery driver
00:23:11It's all about pizza baby
00:23:13The casting
00:23:15It's all about the pizza
00:23:19Of all the shenanigans Kevin McAllister gets up to in Home Alone
00:23:22The pizza delivery prank is one of the most inventive and most loved
00:23:26Oh I like this bit
00:23:27It's a pizza thing
00:23:28Oh yeah
00:23:29By fast forwarding through clips of an old gangster movie
00:23:32Kevin tricks a pizza delivery boy into thinking he's stumbled across a shootout
00:23:37Genius
00:23:38Leave it on that doorstep and get the hell out of here
00:23:41Okay
00:23:43Um well what about the money
00:23:47What money
00:23:49Well you have to pay for your pizza sir
00:23:51Do you think that'll work in real life?
00:23:53It depends
00:23:55If it's on Uber Eats
00:23:56No
00:23:57Because you just pay it on the phone call
00:24:00One
00:24:02One
00:24:02Two
00:24:02Ten
00:24:05Run away bud
00:24:07Run away
00:24:08This has got us thinking
00:24:09Would this prank actually work in real life?
00:24:13Probably not
00:24:13But let's test this baby out
00:24:16First off
00:24:16We rented this big house
00:24:18We've rigged it with a bunch of hidden cameras
00:24:20And we've recreated our very old gangster film
00:24:24Starring this extremely threatening hunk of a man
00:24:28Do I sound like a muck?
00:24:30What do you want trinkle?
00:24:33So we've turned the clips into a high tech soundboard
00:24:36Are you having a giraffe?
00:24:38And run it through a banging speaker system
00:24:41And there's one last important task to do
00:24:44Wedges
00:24:44Can you try the wedges?
00:24:45Put the fried garlic mushrooms on the pizza
00:24:48Okay
00:24:48Love bro
00:24:49Thank you
00:24:49And this is a deal breaker
00:24:50Extra anchovies
00:24:52Thank you
00:24:53Why anchovies?
00:24:54I don't like anchovies
00:24:55I said it
00:24:55Look these are extra anchovies
00:24:57I've got you covered
00:25:03Operation Pizza Prank is in motion
00:25:10Wait, there he is
00:25:11There he is, he's coming
00:25:15Showtime
00:25:20What do you want?
00:25:22It's a delivery from Pizza Blitz
00:25:24That one
00:25:26Well I didn't know they sent
00:25:28Pizza Boy's to this part of town
00:25:31I don't know if it make any sense
00:25:33I guess I could choose that one
00:25:34Alright
00:25:35Whatever you've got
00:25:37Dump it
00:25:38And scarper
00:25:39It's a delivery from Pizza Village
00:25:41Your pizza
00:25:45What's a thing like that worth anyway, sweetheart?
00:25:52It's backed away
00:26:00I don't know if it's going to be the worst I've felt in a while
00:26:03Yeah, I feel too
00:26:04I feel pretty bad about that
00:26:06Waiting for ages
00:26:07Even though all we've done is been rude
00:26:11For the whole thing
00:26:15I don't know if you can mess with this brother
00:26:17I just want to say
00:26:18You cast it
00:26:19What do you press it
00:26:19Go on
00:26:20Press it
00:26:20Go on
00:26:22Yeah, what do you want
00:26:23Got delivery?
00:26:26He's confused
00:26:27He's just confused
00:26:30Are you having a giraffe?
00:26:33Let me try and press it
00:26:34It'll make more sense
00:26:34Okay, I'll give it to you
00:26:36I don't know if I press the dog
00:26:37The dog
00:26:38No, don't
00:26:38I press the dog
00:26:42All right, please
00:26:44Hello, can you come to the door, please?
00:26:47Run, pizza boy
00:26:48He's calling the police
00:26:49That's the police
00:26:50I ain't trying to get arrested for this
00:26:53No, I just brought a delivery to 118
00:26:55He's on the phone
00:26:58Go on
00:26:58Excuse me
00:26:59Give him all the money
00:27:04Thank you
00:27:08Do you want to take your pizza?
00:27:09You have a good day, brother
00:27:10Do you want
00:27:11All right
00:27:14Now he's taking the pizza away
00:27:15We're going to eat the pizza
00:27:16Do you know what?
00:27:17I like this guy
00:27:19He took the 50 quid
00:27:20And the pizza
00:27:21And said to us
00:27:22Do you want
00:27:22Do you know what he said to us?
00:27:24Do you want
00:27:29What do you want, Trico?
00:27:31Deliver it
00:27:33Are you having a giraffe?
00:27:35I've just got the pizza delivery for you
00:27:37Turn around, tough guy
00:27:40Turn around, is it?
00:27:42Turn around, tough guy
00:27:44Okay
00:27:47Three
00:27:48Two
00:27:50One
00:27:50Go get him, you filthy animal
00:27:54Run, pizza boy
00:28:04Hey, Casti
00:28:05Yeah
00:28:06This is terrible
00:28:09Well, here's a treat for your troubles
00:28:12Okay
00:28:12You're a waste of space
00:28:14You had one job
00:28:16And now you pulled it
00:28:20Do you want me to leave the pizza outside?
00:28:27Yeah
00:28:28Cheers
00:28:29Thank you
00:28:29You're changing this
00:28:31Are you having a giraffe?
00:28:33I think we can conclude that this wouldn't work in real life
00:28:36In the film
00:28:37They've got actors who are saying the corresponding lines to what he's got queued up on the video
00:28:41It's all very funny
00:28:42But in real life
00:28:44It doesn't make any sense
00:28:46It's a disaster
00:28:47It doesn't work
00:28:48They're amazing at their jobs
00:28:50And we
00:28:51Maybe aren't
00:28:54So
00:28:54We've proved the pizza prank is a load of old baloney
00:28:57But what about Kevin's electrocution booby trap?
00:29:03You can't watch
00:29:10I think he would have to go to the doctors
00:29:15Turned into a skeleton, yo
00:29:24Would you really see a skeleton if she turned out that electric?
00:29:29I don't think so
00:29:31He'd be like
00:29:32Oh, ha
00:29:32Oh
00:29:33Kevin's quite harsh
00:29:35Yeah, but like
00:29:36He doesn't want his house to get robbed
00:29:37When like his parents aren't there
00:29:39Yeah
00:29:40He's being quite like
00:29:41He's being a good boy
00:29:46Them kids
00:29:47They look like they enjoy this
00:29:49Ha ha
00:29:50Watching it on home on TV
00:29:51We enjoyed it
00:29:51You enjoyed it
00:29:52Marv getting all
00:29:53When we were kids
00:29:54Yeah
00:29:55The truth is
00:29:55It's not no funny games
00:29:57It's not no jokes
00:29:58It feels very, very danger to me, Zoe
00:30:00Can you confirm that it's danger?
00:30:01Deadly
00:30:02Huh?
00:30:03Deadly
00:30:03Well, actually
00:30:04Actually, seriously
00:30:05What Marv experienced was enough electricity to kill someone
00:30:09Happy Christmas
00:30:11Happy Christmas, Zoe
00:30:13That's nice
00:30:14I think if all bad news is ended with the word happy Christmas
00:30:17Then you feel better
00:30:18So what I want is for you to experience electricity
00:30:21At a level that's still safe
00:30:22But that will help engender some respect for it
00:30:25Who's defining what's safe and what's not here?
00:30:27You said Marv could have died from grabbing on them
00:30:30Concrete and like that
00:30:31Yeah
00:30:31Okay, well this is a TENS machine
00:30:34Transcutaneal electrical nerve stimulant
00:30:36It's designed to be used at home
00:30:37With no medical professionals present
00:30:39Because what I'd like you to do
00:30:40Is just have a nice little tea party with me
00:30:43Piece of cake, cup of tea
00:30:44But if you do it wearing these
00:30:47I will run some current through you
00:30:49Let me put it on you
00:30:54Say when
00:30:55When?
00:30:56Ooh, I've got a little bit of fizzing going on in my arm, guys
00:31:00There you go
00:31:00How was that? Fizzy?
00:31:02Yeah, it's fizzy
00:31:02About pins and needles
00:31:03Maybe take a little sip of tea
00:31:05What's that now?
00:31:06What's that now?
00:31:07Why are you making my arm twerk?
00:31:08Why is my arm twerking?
00:31:10That is
00:31:11Huh?
00:31:12Didn't look like a Cardi B video
00:31:13Okay, okay
00:31:14Why is his arm not twerking?
00:31:16It's not doing what mine was doing
00:31:17All right, we're going back to James
00:31:18Ah
00:31:20Whoa
00:31:21I'm sorry
00:31:22Ah
00:31:22Right
00:31:22That's ampage there
00:31:25Chil, chil, chil, chil, chil, chil
00:31:26Whoa, whoa
00:31:27That's probably enough
00:31:28So this is still milliamps, right?
00:31:30If you hit 30 milliamps
00:31:31That's when you start to get
00:31:33Ah, stop
00:31:34What's called the freezing current?
00:31:36Whatever you've done
00:31:37Look at that cake
00:31:38Look at the state of ampage
00:31:41I now want to show you something
00:31:42Where we keep that ampage low
00:31:44But we're going to bring the voltage up
00:31:47Look, I tell you what
00:31:48I'm so confident
00:31:49I'll go first
00:31:52What it is
00:31:53Is a sort of wand
00:31:54And it's called the violet wand
00:31:56Where you put in these attachments
00:31:59And then this will become charged up
00:32:01And this becomes an electrode
00:32:02And then earth itself
00:32:03You said earths itself
00:32:06Yeah
00:32:06Or sit earth in itself through
00:32:08Your body
00:32:08Or my body
00:32:09Yeah, I'm good
00:32:10Yeah, okay
00:32:11I think
00:32:11This little one will be nice
00:32:13Nice for what?
00:32:16I'm now charged
00:32:18Congratulations
00:32:18Can I discharge onto you?
00:32:20Well, at least you asked
00:32:28So this is tiny milliamps
00:32:30But we're dealing with 30,000 volts
00:32:33That's described as the erotic range
00:32:35Sorry, say it again one more time
00:32:37The erotic range
00:32:39Yeah
00:32:43So you've experienced
00:32:44What electricity can do
00:32:45At really safe, low levels
00:32:48Next I'm going to show you
00:32:49Electricity as it is
00:32:51Out of the mains
00:32:52So this is now unsafe levels
00:32:54I think you need to see the reality
00:32:55Of what actually Marv had to deal with
00:32:58Okay, let's do it
00:33:00This setup is designed to show you
00:33:02What happens when you run mains electricity
00:33:06Through something that conducts
00:33:08We conduct, gherkins also conduct
00:33:10We both contain salt and water
00:33:13What kind of dangers could be present here?
00:33:15Flying vinegar droplets in the eye
00:33:18We're going to get murked by the gherk
00:33:19Okay, deep breaths, you ready?
00:33:23Three, two, one
00:33:28Whoa
00:33:32Look at that
00:33:33Like a Christmas tree
00:33:34Yeah, yeah
00:33:36That was sick
00:33:37Smoking
00:33:37Literally smoking
00:33:42How am I supposed to stay safe from this?
00:33:44I recommend at least beginning with rubber gloves
00:33:48So this is an insulating material
00:33:50So electricity won't conduct through rubber
00:33:53Lovely
00:33:54They suit you actually
00:33:55Do they really?
00:33:57I'll have a word in Kevin's ear
00:33:58Make sure that he's balancing that voltage and ampage right
00:34:01So that it is both electrified
00:34:04But maybe not deadly
00:34:06Maybe
00:34:07We're adding that rubber
00:34:08Just as the background safeguarding confidence giver to go for the grab
00:34:12You are guaranteeing to me
00:34:14If I wear these rubber gloves
00:34:44And I wear an all rubber suit
00:34:46Thanks for joining me today
00:34:47First things first
00:34:49Home Alone has become well known for its brutality in the stunts
00:34:55What did you think?
00:34:56What did you think when you first saw some of what they had planned for you?
00:34:59I mean to make comedy funny?
00:35:01I mean to make comedy funny you have to do physical stuff
00:35:14The first one was the blow torch to the head
00:35:17How did that work out?
00:35:18They had a special cap that they'd blow the heat on
00:35:21And that was more of a visual effect
00:35:23But on the second Home Alone
00:35:25When we did the blow torch
00:35:27They lit my head on fire
00:35:29And I did a real fire where I did a handstand in the toilet
00:35:31Yeah
00:35:32And put it out
00:35:32Yeah that was real fire
00:35:36The stunts in the film are so iconic
00:35:38But the one that stands out above all the rest is
00:35:41The Home Alone Fall
00:35:44Please can you talk us through what the Home Alone Fall is
00:35:47And how it's done?
00:35:48Basically it's just landing flat on your back
00:35:50Without twisting or putting an arm out
00:35:52But you basically just plant one foot
00:35:55And push off as hard as you can
00:35:56And get your feet above your head
00:35:58So you come flat
00:35:59And make sure you have your chin tucked
00:36:01So you don't hit your head
00:36:03And then after Home Alone
00:36:04It really got my career going
00:36:06As far as I got called for every stair fall
00:36:09Getting hit by cars and stuff
00:36:11Like physical stuff
00:36:12Yeah the stunts and the falls
00:36:15They're a big part of why I think it's had that longevity
00:36:19Talking the falls
00:36:20I'll tell you a lot of his stunts was Dan Stern
00:36:23Because he's super athletic
00:36:24But yeah he did a lot of this stuff
00:36:26Like you know getting hit with the iron
00:36:28Of course the hilarious in the second one
00:36:30Is where he's getting electrocuted
00:36:32You know that night was fun
00:36:34I mean that was funny just watching it
00:36:37Would you want to do any of these stunts again now?
00:36:40Because I'm not you know I'm old and fat now
00:36:42So it wouldn't look as good
00:36:43But yeah
00:36:45And this is the big question
00:36:47Would you be able to show me?
00:36:49I may regret asking this
00:36:50Yeah we'll do something
00:36:51Okay then
00:36:52We'll hit you with a shovel or something
00:36:54How's that?
00:36:54Sorry you just
00:36:54You would just hit me with a shovel or something?
00:36:56Yeah
00:36:56I don't know maybe we'll just scrap that question guys
00:36:59Don't worry about that bit
00:37:00That's fine
00:37:01So Troy I'm ready
00:37:03We've got the crash mat
00:37:04So like how do we do this safely?
00:37:06Like do I kind of plant my feet?
00:37:08Is there different stuff or is it just
00:37:22It's been lovely to meet you Troy
00:37:25Thanks for that pal
00:37:30I must say I'm glad that's the only stunt I've got to do
00:37:32Here good luck back in the studio fellas
00:37:40Guys
00:37:40Guys what are you doing in there?
00:37:42Oh you're going to love it
00:37:43It's a surprise for you
00:37:45Guys you know I don't like surprises
00:37:46Come on just come out
00:37:47No no no we need to remember
00:37:49Zoe was saying
00:37:50Rubber is for safety
00:37:51And I've got this rubber ready for you
00:37:54What were you talking
00:37:55Guys this is stupid
00:37:56I'm coming in okay
00:37:57I want to know what's going on in there
00:38:01Still to come
00:38:02This is me dressed up as
00:38:05You're an idiot
00:38:09It's absolutely mad
00:38:10It's a serious injury
00:38:13I don't want to die
00:38:26What are you doing?
00:38:27I'm using that turkey from earlier
00:38:29To make us some lovely Christmas sandwiches
00:38:31Girls are you hungry?
00:38:32It looks a bit dry
00:38:33It's not my thing really
00:38:34I know this is going to be a gourmet sandwich
00:38:35Mate mate you want me to toast it for you?
00:38:37Do you have the ability to do that?
00:38:38Toast you a lovely Thanksgiving sandwich right here
00:38:41Oh yeah
00:38:44Burn it
00:38:45Burn it
00:38:46Burn it
00:38:47Brilliant
00:38:48Whoa that knife's hot
00:38:52Bon appetit
00:39:00It doesn't smell good
00:39:01Yeah
00:39:02To be honest
00:39:03As I was doing it
00:39:04I thought
00:39:04This is not my best sandwich I've ever made
00:39:09Oh this red hot doorknob scene
00:39:11Makes me wince like a pit bull
00:39:13Sucking on nettles
00:39:14Thank God James is taking this one
00:39:17Like this is one of my favourite parts ever
00:39:19And it doesn't even look
00:39:26That really hurt
00:39:27Yeah
00:39:28Because it was like super hot
00:39:30When you touch
00:39:31Yeah
00:39:35I think that would be the most painfulest thing in my life
00:39:40Well at least he has a tattoo now
00:39:42What would you do?
00:39:45I'll probably do it with like
00:39:47Only with the teeth
00:39:49Because like teeth
00:39:50The challenge here is how to make that door handle glow red hot
00:39:58Kevin used a barbecue fire lighter like that one there on the shelf
00:40:02This one here
00:40:03Yeah yeah grab that
00:40:03Genius
00:40:04Works every time
00:40:05Well let's give it a try
00:40:06So hang it on the doorknob
00:40:07Okay
00:40:08This is basically a kettle element
00:40:10Flick the switch
00:40:14How quick is it hot?
00:40:16Well let's have a look
00:40:17I've got my temperature gun
00:40:18I'd like to see the deleted scene in Home Alone
00:40:21Where he's got a temperature gun
00:40:22And he's just checking
00:40:23Is that hot enough yet?
00:40:25I don't know if that's going to burn him
00:40:26Well I think that's the point
00:40:27Is that the element is glowing red hot
00:40:30And the door handle nothing
00:40:32And it's because it's cooling into the air
00:40:34You haven't got that speed of conduction
00:40:36Any other ideas?
00:40:46Oi, oi, oi, oi, oi, oi, oi, oi, oi, oi
00:40:48That's it?
00:40:50390
00:40:51It's gone all over the shop
00:40:53It's absolutely mad
00:40:58I can see the face of Jesus through the flame
00:41:00Is that normal?
00:41:02Can you see the door's actually catching fire?
00:41:05It's on fire
00:41:05You can't do anything about that
00:41:06I'll just leave it
00:41:07It would
00:41:07you know burns at a lower temperature than the metal so what's the door's temperature 170 handle
00:41:13temperature 75 yeah is that it so 100 degrees cooler we failed to get it hot enough with the
00:41:21flamethrower we did i suggest we try induction to heat it up this what is a magnetic induction coil
00:41:30i know what it is but it sounds exciting it's a piece of copper coiled round in itself yeah
00:41:35and an electric current pulses through it and it produces a magnetic field it's going to excite
00:41:41like the atoms and make them really really hot so you make science sounds very sexy how long is it
00:41:47going to take to make the knob go red i mean it might take a while kevin needs to plan
00:41:51this in
00:41:52advance i think what we're discovering quite quickly about kevin is he's a full little liar or that
00:41:58montage where you're setting the house up actually took like a long weekend yeah it's hot enough to
00:42:04really damage you you know cook an egg on that no problem has anyone got an egg look normally i
00:42:09would
00:42:09i've forgot it today can see it's starting to glow red yeah yeah we're at 326 what's the g stand
00:42:15for
00:42:15guzz's knob consider this to be your hand this is the level of damage this doorknob can do here we
00:42:28go
00:42:31oh listen to that yeah if that's my hand yeah look at that
00:42:41zoe if that was somebody's hand that's irreparable damage i mean we're talking serious serious injury
00:42:47what if i like made a glove out of ice ice beats fire it would definitely give you maybe enough
00:42:53time would you have enough grip behind you there are some of my welding gloves that are safer best
00:43:00they're not designed for like direct grabbing but they may give some level of protection if you
00:43:04want to give it a try they're not designed for direct grabbing not for prolonged you would like me to
00:43:11directly grab it yes be careful man no i'm saying i'm your friend because do you feel like you could
00:43:22get some purchase on and turn brilliant because that's all you're coming off of that though and i
00:43:26felt it warm i might have to double double glove double or i put the meat on the welder's glove
00:43:32i'd
00:43:33call that a composite material very advanced see i knew that's what i was going to say composition
00:43:37material composite composite say that one more like you guys two or more materials together and
00:43:42they become greater than the sum of their parts yeah we're greater than the sum of our parts right
00:43:47i don't even know what i mean sounds good is brooker doing any of this we're getting frazzed
00:43:51what's brooker doing left us home alone
00:44:01being able to laugh at the violence of home alone rather than cry is all down to the genius comedy
00:44:06acting of daniel stern and joe pesci harry and marv have gone down as one of the greatest double acts
00:44:14in cinema history you and joe had so much chemistry on the film where did that come from we were
00:44:22classic
00:44:22characters in a certain way he's the short tough jimmy cagney you know and and i was the goof it's
00:44:30uh
00:44:30laurel and hardy it's you know the contrasting characters the friendship was fun the
00:44:36movie was fun the silliness we both approached it in our own way you know that was comfortable with
00:44:43each of us and the chemistry kind of clicked i i heard somewhere that on set joe genuinely wanted
00:44:51macaulay colkin to be intimidated by him so would kind of act intimidating joe wanted everybody to be
00:44:58intimidated by him that wasn't just at mac that was at everybody but joe yeah i think joe did have
00:45:03a bit
00:45:03of that like he wanted mac to be scared of him again i think he wanted everybody and he still
00:45:09is
00:45:09scary and you've done so much in your career so many films so many tv shows but is home alone
00:45:16the
00:45:16thing that kind of people talk to you oh yeah yeah people are crazy about it i mean i have
00:45:21people come
00:45:22up to me with tattoos of myself on them like people have me tattooed on different parts of their body
00:45:29and
00:45:30say hey marv and wet bandits you know wet the wet bandit or marv but the wet bandit really hung
00:45:37on as
00:45:39it resonated with people i guess is that kind of the weirdest kind of fan obsession thing that you
00:45:44you've seen yeah i mean that can't get any weirder like you don't know me and and you took the
00:45:51effort to
00:45:52permanently tattoo my face onto your body that blows my mind again like i've learned to embrace
00:46:00it as opposed to thinking it's too weird people if people want to go off on their own journeys on
00:46:06home
00:46:06alone and just be obsessed by it i think that's beautiful now i don't think it's weird i've done
00:46:11it myself i've dressed up as i've dressed up really i just want to show you this quickly so i
00:46:17i dressed up
00:46:18um and the scene where you get electrocuted oh oh so one of my favorites this is this is me
00:46:24dressed up as
00:46:31so you're an idiot
00:46:35what a riot daniel thank you so much this has been just this has been one of the great days
00:46:42of my life
00:46:42and i include getting married and having my kids as well get out of town he has it's been that's
00:46:48very sweet it's been an absolute privilege to spend time with you and talk about the film that i love
00:46:53so much um but just before we go i've got what one thing that i'd like to ask you what
00:46:59um would you
00:47:01be okay to sign sign my iron sign it yes if you want me to smash it into my face
00:47:09that's extra
00:47:09yeah i'd be honored to uh sign your there you go sir thank you so much that's amazing marv
00:47:20well there you go still to come we're gonna have a real nice swing
00:47:27oh i'm actually stood outside the mccallister house now let's glove up bt
00:47:46why james a baby self-final stunt is it the one where we eat loads of pizza eat those of
00:47:51ice
00:47:52cream and then wake up in a nice big soft bed in a hotel on christmas morning and unwrap loads
00:47:55of
00:47:56presents no it's the zip wire there oh well that's all right he comes out the house lands safely in
00:48:02his
00:48:02tree house that'll be fun not quite oh yeah now the robbers make it halfway right and then the wire
00:48:09gets cut and they smash to the side of the house hard really hard that's the one yeah that doesn't
00:48:16feel
00:48:16very christmassy to me hey guys check this out oh go back oh go back go back they're gonna stress
00:48:32about it and they're gonna fall don't look down kevin said like all these pranks and this is like the
00:48:47big end one yeah it's like the banger the banger the banger how would you feel if that was you
00:48:53i don't
00:48:54know because i'll be dead the final trap who's scared of heights guts and me only a little bit
00:49:03and usually i would say psst not a problem but based on everything you've done shown us
00:49:09i think we're gonna die if we do this possible but if it's a zip line this is like this
00:49:14is fine
00:49:15i've seen this in the film and they zip down i'm looking forward to doing this when it looks fun
00:49:18we yeah yeah it's like way rough and tumble it's fine in the film they swing back against the house
00:49:25don't they because kevin cuts the rope yeah so back they swing a la paint can in fact yeah and
00:49:31then
00:49:31the impact is against the wall this rig up will show what should have happened to the burglars in the
00:49:35film and what will happen to you if you happen to swing back to the wall without any protection and
00:49:42a cast just to confirm you think based on how zoe's just teed this up that you would still
00:49:48like to if out of all the options were there swing into the wall and you'll be okay well i
00:49:53don't know
00:49:53seeing is believing when we see the the whole experiment fair enough but i reckon we're gonna
00:49:58have a real nice swing and it'll be like a victory lap you and me you're swinging down boom boom
00:50:04boom
00:50:04maybe do it with no clothes on like the dummy i think this is going to be a laugh i
00:50:08think zoe's saved
00:50:09the best to last as a little treat okay let's give it a go three two one
00:50:18oh that wasn't so bad doing fine that mannequin but
00:50:25the reality is we're gonna have broken limbs cracked ribs punctured lungs damaged internal organs
00:50:32maybe a little loss of teeth little loss of teeth just one or two on top of all that damage
00:50:36a little bit of loss of teeth are gone as well cracked skull cracked skull yeah there you go so
00:50:41what are you thinking for protection uh cover ourselves in springs and then we can bounce to
00:50:47safety if we fall trampolines on the floor bounce even higher yeah uh lay those out before kevin gets
00:50:52into the the tree house uh maybe bouncy castle house like turn the whole house into a bouncy castle
00:50:58the whole thing that is the budget's getting a bit high now i think most of it we've spent on
00:51:03guz so
00:51:04i don't really think we can push to springs and a bouncy castle what else we do bubble wrap
00:51:15as requested we've got our mannequin wrapped in copious amounts of bubble wrap with a little added
00:51:21extra inside i've put a number of these this is a balloon filled with jelly and this is there to
00:51:28represent the internal organs can i feel it you can don't squeeze too hard but yeah that feels nice
00:51:37can we wait underneath the mannequin with our mouths open there may be other bits of shrapnel like a foot
00:51:42falling so i wouldn't well it'll all stay in there anyway won't it because the bubble wrap will do its
00:51:47job if the bubble wrap does its job the limbs should be intact and the balloons inside should be intact
00:51:55bubble balloon organ mannequin a go three two one
00:52:06bubble wrap does its head came off i think we need to take a closer look
00:52:23all right let's take a look
00:52:28right i've got to reach around the front zoe oh one-handed doctor bring that back do you want to
00:52:35back down a bit james strip it off oh oh this mannequin's had better days sure oh there's some
00:52:42sticky icky there oozeage oh oh my word it's not ideal so some of the balloons were hung from these
00:52:53strings so that they could swing inside and i actually expected some damage but this is over 50
00:53:00percent of the balloons have burst doctor this is decimation yeah unsurvivable injuries here so this
00:53:07trap is unsurvivable that's what you're saying is that we can't trick this i'm saying science can't
00:53:13help what the only option you have is to catch kevin before he cuts the rope fine and then we've
00:53:19got
00:53:19to get down that zip wire what's the fastest way of doing that together like together piggyback or face
00:53:26face to face koala bear as long as we're together i'll koala you i'll be on you yeah you're on
00:53:32me
00:53:32but we're gonna catch that kid good luck what i thought we're gonna do another cool plant
00:53:41slowly doctor
00:53:48the next stop on my journey is chicago where the film was actually shot i don't think i've ever been
00:53:53this excited in my entire life because first up it's a big one the mcallister house to me this
00:53:59house epitomizes christmas and a 30-year dream of visiting it is about to come true this is amazing
00:54:06the mcallister's house has always seemed a magical place to me i always wondered what kevin's parents
00:54:11did to be able to afford it now i've been told i can't bring the crew onto the street to
00:54:15film here so
00:54:16i've had to ditch the cameras and go mobile oh my god i'm coming up to it now i can't
00:54:24believe this
00:54:26oh man i'm actually stood outside the mcallister house i can't believe it i can't believe i'm here
00:54:33i honestly i've loved this house i want to visit this house ever since i was like six this is
00:54:38unbelievable um i might as well give you some facts anyway only the living room and hallway were used in
00:54:44the film the rest of the rooms were actually a studio set the amazing tree house was built
00:54:49specially for the film they knocked it down again straight after filming it's become an unbelievably
00:54:54popular tourist spot with dozens of super fans like me turning up every single day to get their
00:54:59photo taken outside it was bought in 2012 for 1.6 million dollars an absolute bargain considering it
00:55:05was listed at 2.4 million i can't believe i'm here i wanted to do the kevin thing but i've
00:55:11got to use
00:55:12the hand to the face but i've got a hold of my feet still to come it's time for the
00:55:21boys to face their fate
00:55:23think twice before you take this on let's get that kid
00:55:54this is it guys we're in the end game now we've learned a lot we know how to survive all
00:56:00these
00:56:00traps more or less and now it's the case of burgling kevin's house for real hey castella
00:56:05confidence but there's danger in there anything could happen to us what about if my kids see this
00:56:12on television and they see their father and their uncle a cast be dead in the ground we don't have
00:56:16to worry just like home alone it's a family film this is a family tv show
00:56:24everything we're doing is perfectly safe and perfectly
00:56:28imitable hey guys are you the two idiots that think they can catch me you know it has to
00:56:35every time i feel that fear inside me yeah and i wonder why am i doing this i remember it's
00:56:39because
00:56:39of that little kid there i want to break him down i hate him so much i hate his stupid
00:56:42house the stupid
00:56:43snowman and all the stupid traps we're gonna beat him and i'm gonna beat him this is it gus huh
00:56:49i guess
00:56:50it is let me say one more thing to you before we do this same i really wish i was
00:56:56alex brooker right now
00:57:00the grace episcopal church in chicago was used for one of my favorite scenes
00:57:05it's the poignant and emotional moment when kevin realizes old man marley isn't actually a
00:57:10psychopathic murderer and it's my final stop before i leave what's been a magical trip
00:57:16we've all got that one thing we do each year that makes it feel like christmas something that reminds
00:57:21us of what it felt like to have christmas as a kid and for me it's watching home alone i've
00:57:27been
00:57:27obsessed with this film ever since i first saw it when i was six years old and i love it
00:57:31even more now
00:57:32that i'm 38. um i just i'm obsessed with it and to come here meet some of the cast and
00:57:38see where it
00:57:39was filmed has not only been a career highlight i think it's been a life highlight honestly this is the
00:57:45best christmas present i could have had eight o'clock it's time for the boys to face their fate
00:57:56have you got any words of advice for james and guz back in the studio guys i'm a trained professional
00:58:01do not do this i've heard too much about you guys i wouldn't do it but if you do do
