00:05it's the cookie jar brought to you by moran chevrolet ahead of mother's day weekend we'll
00:09talk tv moms talk about genies making wishes i want to know if john can name one good thing
00:13about the state of ohio we'll save time at the end to talk about pat caputo but we start with
00:19tv moms john the best tv mom uh i'm gonna go with jill taylor from home improvement of course you
00:25are um i mean i could have gone june cleaver um but i'm gonna go with jill because
00:34it's just there's so many things that remind me of my relationship with lisa and you know with
00:41i could fix that and all of a sudden it doesn't work and her response is very patient very measured
00:48the way she handled her kids like i thought that was it just was awesome and hilarious heather i'm
00:55gonna go with uh lorelei gilmore which i'm sure you guys you know i know the gilmore girls i liked
01:04that i liked how close i mean she was a young mother and i liked how close she was with
01:08her
01:08daughter rory they had a really great bond she was kind of cool kind of funny yeah that's my pick
01:12tammy taylor friday night lights yeah that's a good one too greg oh you guys know where i'm going with
01:17here anytime it's best dad best sibling less best neighbor etc etc best tv mom chili healer from
01:25bluey you love bluey i do uh i'm going pretty basic here because it's my favorite show growing
01:31up claire huxtable always put uh cliff in its place yeah well especially yeah maybe that wasn't
01:39a good one after all that was the character well what she had to put up with yeah all right
01:44a genie
01:44gives you unlimited wishes but you're going to gain 50 pounds for every wish you make how do you play
01:51it you can't wish for anything weight related um this one was easy to me i've been 50 pounds heavier
01:56i could survive that way and i could also lose it at a future time i'm gonna go it's a
02:01one for one
02:02ratio 50 million bucks it's my wish 50 million bucks 1 million for every pound and i'll live fat
02:10and happy the rest of my life i'm super content just as my life is you guys is it surprising
02:18that
02:18i'm gonna say i'm gonna not play no because you wouldn't even do the push-up thing and i wouldn't
02:23do the donut thing no i no i'll pass
02:30uh look no fun i'm way more fun as i am now than i would be 50 pounds heavier i'll
02:37tell you that like
02:37here's here's my thought and i get it it's easier for guys probably to lose the weight
02:42i'm gonna make one wish and then i'm gonna wish for money like john said i'm gonna use that money
02:47to
02:47build the apparatus to lose future weight i'm gonna get a chef i'm gonna get a personal trainer
02:51and then when i lose the 50 i'll keep making more and more wishes there you go yeah i mean
02:58i only
02:58need one i only want i don't want to have to lose 50 pounds again uh john what were your
03:03career nfl
03:04earnings um look i think that's i i think that's if we're giving magical powers to a genie
03:10i think this genie is putting 50 pounds that you can't lose on personally i'm with heather i've
03:16gained 30 pounds in the last couple of years i don't like it very much yeah so i'm tabling these
03:21wishes i'd make two wishes so i'd be willing to gain 100 pounds you guys are crazy man all right
03:26the first one is yeah money uh like john said 50 million bucks yeah i mean pick your number the
03:31second one is the lions winning the super bowl okay i did it for you city all right so we
03:36got
03:36fat tom yeah we get a super bowl fat tom anyway so unearned unearned super bowl oh that would be
03:44the calls we get this one doesn't count tom used the genie to win the super bowl come on i
03:48don't
03:48absolutely we'd get those calls yeah what is your philosophy on 50 50 at sporting events do you play
03:54um absolutely i play and uh it is i think it's a lot of fun and it's one that has
04:02to be drawn in
04:02the moment like i don't want it to be how well you know we got to find out later you
04:05know who won
04:06it needs to be the the 50 50 for the school for the program that is playing right now and
04:15i'll even do
04:15it at away games like we go to you know wherever we're at i am 100 involved and then what
04:22you do with
04:22the winnings is you take you recoup your cost so if it's 20 bucks you recoup the cost and you
04:28donate
04:29the rest back to the athletic team they're already getting 50 percent right i but it's so i mean you're
04:37talking about you know generally it's you know three or four hundred bucks all right why do you
04:42donate it back to that athletic because i want to be able to donate it back i think we're playing
04:48because they need equipment or they need to you know the facilities need upkeep whatever it is
04:54you're you're you're taking this as more of like a high school 50 50 i'm taking this like when i
04:58go
04:58to a pistons or a red wings or a tigers game oh i'm not doing it there oh yeah i
05:02never do it it feels
05:03like a tax on idiots like you're not going to win i don't know anybody who's won a 50 50
05:07at these
05:07pro sporting events at it's not a tax on idiots uh if you're doing it at a local high school
05:14or you're
05:15doing it for you know the pop warner team if you're doing it there where's that money going
05:20right it's like it's like playing the lottery that's a tax on idiots because you're just giving
05:24your money to the government and yeah what the hell let's just keep giving it to them to the schools
05:28that's different right yeah but you're giving it to the government you're trusting that they're
05:31going to give it to the schools bs who trusts a politician go down that rabbit hole heather i've
05:37never really had thoughts on it i've never played oh you don't well you don't go to many high
05:42school games you will win right like i don't go to work the tigers sure i worked at the tigers
05:46game and i've gone to numerous professional sporting events i've never really paid attention
05:51to it and i've never given money to it i'll tell you at the hockey games they take the kids
05:56who are like on youth teams to like try to get you to play 50 50 they try to tug
06:01at your heart
06:01strings yeah you're asking for my philosophy on this uh this is why that dear john letter and
06:07that daughter needs to have a philosophy degree um do i ever play no tom i do it for the
06:13i'm much
06:13like john i'll do it for uh youth sporting events through high school not not at the professional
06:17or college level uh i've gave it gave some back before and other times i've taken it just kind of
06:23the mood i'm in sure i'll challenge you what's one good thing about ohio the pistons are going there
06:27for games three and four i read this one and i thought oh boy this one is a challenge but
06:32i have
06:33one for you bob evans don't we have bob evans here we do but their headquarters is in the state
06:42of ohio and i think that they have the greatest breakfast that you're going to get and i get the
06:49scrambled eggs i put it on top of the biscuits i smother it they have the best gravy and it's
06:56when
06:56when the kids were younger on their birthday that was our birthday breakfast we'd go to the bob
07:02evans when we go to columbus the hotel that we stay in right next to a bob evans i'm all
07:07for it
07:07i don't go to ohio often so the first thing i think of is cedar point like one of the
07:17only
07:17reasons i go i guess also the the lake erie coastline i'm sure is decent i've just never been
07:23it's the ugliest of all is it really very rocky i mean there's a reason lake erie yeah compared to
07:28the others it's the greatest fishing lake that we have fishing the shoreline is it not nice i've
07:34never been so there's a reason they call cleveland the mistake by the lake yeah well it's the whole
07:39state but except bob evans look you picked one of their their chief exports bob evans yeah i took
07:45astronauts neil armstrong from ohio something about growing up in ohio makes you want to leave the
07:50planet entirely okay i like where you're going with this went to purdue yeah um or don't the
07:57majority of michigan's best football players have come from the state of ohio and speaking of one of
08:03those football players charles woodson his hometown freemont ohio fang boner road goes right over the
08:12ohio turnpike it does the road is called what fang boner okay all right i i would say cedar point
08:18for
08:18sure but also greg's a great point look if you like football you like the nfl ohio puts a lot
08:23of
08:23talent in the nfl well i mean they've arguably the greatest basketball player of all time came from
08:27ohio so jack nicholas yeah well i don't was he from there just played golf yeah right he was adding
08:33to lebron okay uh let's take a little bit of time for this i don't think there's an argument there
08:38but
08:38i'm not gonna go down that rabbit hole okay save a little time for this we can go over
08:42pat caputo yeah passes away pillar of our community institution in the sports media scene
08:48tv radio newspapers thoughts on pat i did lions pregame with him for a couple of years i learned
08:57so much doing those shows with pat caputo the prep that he would send and then i would take a
09:03look at
09:04that okay this is how i'm supposed to do it and he when i think when i finished with him
09:11and was no
09:12longer going to do it one of the biggest compliments i ever got was he said you i didn't expect
09:20a lot
09:20oh thanks um but then he said after i work with you you're one of the few athletes that i've
09:27worked
09:28with that was willing to put in the work and you're not just a football guy and i did that
09:33because i had to match his level he was going to challenge me when i said something it wasn't just
09:40taken because i played it was why or he would disagree and i learned so much doing those shows
09:47with him look when i started here i was working nights and weekends so there's a lot of pat time
09:52and
09:53i think this is a similar story most people when they get started here you work around and with
09:57pat caputo and if i was working a red wing game or a pistons game on the network i'd hang
10:02out in
10:02the gym back there and pat would go back and he'd be on the elliptical or the treadmill and he
10:06was the
10:07same guy on air as he was off air he'd crack jokes we'd watch sports he'd bicker and argue with
10:12you
10:12which i love to do and i know he loved to do and we famously had one big blow up
10:17about payrolls in
10:18baseball and pat knew baseball so he wouldn't concede an inch i'll cherish that time i got to spend with
10:23caputo because i know so many people grew up listening to him
10:29i was uh running the board early in uh my career we did a lot of remotes back then pat
10:35would do a
10:36weekend remote and you know in between the time that we were there you know in a break he just
10:44said
10:44to me i'm glad you're running the board today because i know everything's going okay back there
10:50and so that's a ultimate compliment to me of being a good teammate being a good co-worker and being
10:57reliable he told it like it was man that's the best thing about him and he was as unbiased as
11:03you can
11:04possibly be in this everybody has biases still but he he really tried to be that way i had the
11:10fortune
11:10of interning with him in 1998 when the wings won the cup i mean talk about learning from the right
11:15person and he was pretty fresh in the radio part of this at that point so it's kind of cool
11:20to kind
11:20of learn alongside him too and uh gonna miss him he was a seriously i mean major impact on my
11:27career in
11:28terms of the first thing i ever did in radio was he was involved in it directly he was a
11:34staple
11:35i mean flat out i mean the book the encyclopedic knowledge funny like you said told it like it is
11:42the s on my chest stands for straight down the middle that sense of humor
11:48it's just not gonna be the same without him around here nope and this happened so quick
11:52but january is when he publicly shared his diagnosis when we got the nose and we knew what it was
12:00he was long odds yeah but i i love hearing the stories of people who worked with him yeah who
12:09listened to him and and his legacy will continue to live on because of who he was and for those
12:15you
12:15mentioned tom everybody that worked with him it wasn't just working with them it was learning from
12:21him yeah he didn't uh have some big ego to try this you know uh some people get like oh
12:28if i teach
12:29him how to do something they'll take my job type thing he never had that approach i would say this
12:33too
12:33he was a staple on the weekends i mean what a perfect fit to kind of wrap up the week
12:38in sports
12:39or talk about what's going on on the weekend he just had a firm handle on it and his baseball
12:43knowledge
12:43is disgusting but but baseball is where you get highlighted because i mean yeah he could go
12:48toe-to-toe with anybody on baseball but his love of sports you mentioned he was doing those red wing
12:53shows when they won the cup he was a guy who he could talk gliak football if you wanted like
12:59he knew
13:00everything and wanted to talk about everything with everyone gone too soon yep it's a cookie jar 97.1
