00:08A slew of unproven and false pictures and videos have emerged online after a car attack
00:13in the German city of Leipzig on Monday.
00:16The suspect, named Defriquet, according to media reports, drove a car into a crowd,
00:20killing two people and injuring multiple others.
00:23Authorities have released little verified information about the suspect,
00:27only confirming that he was a 33-year-old resident of the area and born in Germany
00:32but has not confirmed his identity.
00:34They also established that he had previously come to the attention of authorities
00:37for behavioral issues and was admitted and treated in a psychiatric hospital.
00:43One widely shared image shows the alleged suspect wearing a shirt with the local Antifa International.
00:49The source of the original image cannot be verified,
00:51but one of the earliest uploaders of the image is an account
00:54that shared what appears to be a genuine photo of the suspect in a boxing club shirt
00:58alongside another image with the Antifa International shirt.
01:02When asked, the uploaders said the image came from a German-language community platform
01:06that posts memes and political content.
01:09An accountant amplified the image, later claimed it was fake,
01:13explaining that AI chatbot rogue had wrongly labeled it as authentic at first.
01:18At the same time, doctored images of the same photo gained traction online,
01:22showing the same man wearing a shirt bearing the Alternative for Germany party logo.
01:27Hours after the incident, several videos were circulated on TikTok,
01:31claiming to show thousands demonstrating for the IFD.
01:34This footage, however, is not current or from Leipzig,
01:37it is actually from a demonstration against white-wing extremism in Nuremberg.
01:42Despite images of the suspect circulating,
01:44authorities have said that so far,
