00:00A special guest here is Kim Wilde.
00:08Hi there. Now you didn't understand a word what I was saying, but...
00:12It sounded nice though.
00:12No, it was really nice.
00:13It sounded lovely, yeah.
00:15Now, how was your vacation? I mean, you've been away for so long, you must have had a vacation now.
00:20Yeah, I was working most of the time, really, recording and writing the new album, which is out in May.
00:27So, really, I've been working all the time. I know it seems like a long time, but there was a
00:31lot of work to do.
00:32I did go on holidays as well, yeah.
00:34Oh, you did? Yeah, because at a certain moment we were really afraid that you could become a devoted housewife,
00:39you know? No music at all.
00:41Why?
00:42Well, we haven't heard of you for such a long time, so...
00:45Well, it takes a long time to make an album. If you want it to be good, you know, you
00:48can't rush out something that's good.
00:51But during the time when I wasn't writing, I went on holiday and I learned how to scuba dive.
00:56And I was looking at little fishies like this, under the sea.
00:59Right, that's where I got it from.
01:01So, I wasn't really leading the life of a housewife. I was actually being quite adventurous.
01:07Oh, that's good here. I mean, according to the papers, you were already married and living together with Calvin.
01:14I'm not married.
01:14Okay, I won't say a thing here.
01:16Now, at what moment do you decide that it's time to record a new album? I mean, is it you
01:20who decides that, or is it the record company, or how does that go?
01:23Well, by the time you've finished writing and recording an album, you're out doing this, which is promoting that.
01:29And that usually takes up to about a year, by which time it's about time to start thinking about writing
01:35another album, which, again, will take quite a long time.
01:39So, because I like to be involved in writing and the promotion of my stuff.
01:43So, that's why I have breaks now and again, you know, because you can't just keep going all the time.
01:48You have to take time to write songs.
01:51Yeah, aren't you afraid at a certain moment that your inspiration will just stop, like a writer's block?
01:57Not really. No, I'm not worried about it at all. I feel more inspired as the years go by.
02:03And I feel much better about writing songs and better about everything, actually.
02:08Yeah.
02:09Now, do you really keep a close watch on the charts and things like that?
02:13Yeah, yeah.
02:14Oh, yeah, yeah.
02:16I love the charts. I love pop music still more, I think, than I ever did before.
02:21I love all the house stuff and the rap music, and it's great.
02:25Are you really into that?
02:26I really like De La Soul, and I really like Adiva, and I like Kylie too.
02:32Oh, yeah?
02:33Yeah, she's cute.
02:34Yeah, that's because she's cute, right?
02:35No, I like her records too, actually.
02:37Now, don't you ever have the feeling when you hear a song like, I mean, Beats International, whatever, to make
02:42a song like that, just to make a housey track, if you're into that?
02:47I've got my own style, my own way of doing things, and people like that, and, you know, it's individual.
02:54I don't want to go around copying people just for commercial gain. I just want to do what I want
02:59to do.
03:00But still then...
03:01Hopefully everyone will like it.
03:03Is commercial success important to you, the charts?
03:06Sure, yeah, of course it is.
03:07Are you one of these persons who can't sleep the night before the charts are released?
03:10Oh, no.
03:12I mean...
03:12Lies.
03:13Of course, I mean, I love being involved in pop music, and I like to be competitive. I like to
03:20be in the race.
03:21Do you see them as competitors? Who's your major competitor? Or does it depend on the time and the charts
03:26you're into at that moment?
03:27Everybody else who's in the chart is competing, everybody, at the time when your record is out.
03:34I mean, I don't see anyone, individual, as, like, stealing my limelight or anything. I've been making records for too
03:41long to start worrying about things like that.
03:43You sound like a veteran here now, but who would you like to kick off the first place the most?
03:49I guess, no one.
03:52No one?
03:52No, I'm not a vindictive person. There's room for us all.
03:57That is. Even you, you could make a record.
04:00No, I don't think so, no.
04:01No, okay.
04:02Okay, let's get one thing.
04:03Let's do that, yeah.
04:04That's why I got this job.
04:05You do that, yeah.
04:06Too bad to sing.
04:07Hey, yeah, it's your first hit nine years ago. Will you go on for another nine?
04:11Maybe.
04:12And what will that look like?
04:14What will it look like?
04:15No, not you.
04:16What will I look like? I don't know. I mean, I really don't know how it will develop with me.
04:23I don't know how much longer I'll carry on doing this, but certainly I'll keep on with music,
04:29and if I stop doing it myself, I'll write for other people, produce other people,
04:33and be involved in the background somewhere.
04:36But not for a little while yet.
04:38Okay. Well, looking forward to see you on stage in a moment.
04:41By the way, you've been looking at my fishies now.
04:43Yeah, I like that.
04:44I must say, don't get me wrong here, but I must say, I did a little survey here,
04:49and we all think you've got the most beautiful mouth in the world.
04:51Do you do exercises for that or not?
04:54I was born with him, stupid.
04:56You don't stretch it up or something?
04:58No, I don't.
05:00God, no, okay.
05:01But I'll take the compliment. Thank you.
05:05Okay. Hey, I want to thank you for being here.
05:07One last question, and that is, the director already knows.
05:10I mean, what's your favorite video? What did you choose?
05:13I like De La Soul a lot, so I think we're going to see Me, Myself and I.
05:17That's a good song. Good video as well.
05:19Yeah, I like the title.
05:20Okay, thanks for being here.
05:23See you on stage later on.
