Step back in time with us as we explore Kong Kong Market, a truly unique market in Ayutthaya. This market offers a fascinating glimpse into Ayutthaya history and the rich Thailand culture. Join me explore Thailand's past, experiencing traditions that have been preserved for centuries. It's a must-see for anyone interested in Thailand history.

Located just a short drive from Bangkok, this traditional market offers a rare glimpse into life during the Ayutthaya period. Unlike modern markets, vendors here sit on the ground, and buyers must bend down to purchase goods—a cultural practice that reflects humility and respect in Thai tradition.

In this video, I take you through the full experience—watching authentic Thai street food being prepared fresh, tasting a delicious plate of Pad Krapao, enjoying fresh honeydew melon, and discovering a rare Thai fruit called Mon Kai (egg fruit), known for its unique custard-like texture.

00:00What if I told you there is a place in Thailand where time hasn't just slowed down, it's gone
00:06backwards. Today, I'm taking you deep in Ayutthaya to experience something truly unique, a market
00:13where centuries-old traditions are still alive. Welcome to Kong Kong Market, once a historical
00:19tax checkpoint during the Ayutthaya period, now transformed into a living cultural experience.
00:25Here, vendors used to sit on the ground and to shop, you had to burn down from fresh organic
00:32fruits and traditional Thai desserts. This place feels like stepping straight into history.
00:38So come with me as we explore, test and experience what life was really like in the old Thailand.
00:45Oh my, where else can you find this? The atmosphere, the music, everything is just amazing. Some
00:53souvenirs and toys. Are these real? Located in Kanonluang, this market sits in a peaceful
01:00rural setting far from the busy tourist crowds. And it's open from Thursdays to Sundays,
01:079am to 4pm in the evening, making it a perfect short gateway from the city.
01:18Back in the Ayutthaya period, this area was known as Kanon, a checkpoint where taxes were collected
01:25and goods from different cities were traded. It was once a center of commerce, where traders,
01:31farmers and travelers came together. Today, that history has been brought back to life. You made wonder,
01:37what makes Hong Kong market truly special? Is it how it recreates the past?
01:42As you walk through the market, you'll find a wide variety of traditional Thai foods and desserts,
01:49fresh organic fruits and vegetables, often grown locally, handmade sweets, prepared using receipts
01:55passed down through generations. And everything feels simple, natural and authentic.
02:01These are amazing art pieces. If you're looking for some wall art.
02:06At this market, the experience goes beyond just food. Many of the vendors dress in traditional Thai clothing,
02:13adding to the feeling that you've stepped into another era. This isn't just about selling,
02:19it's about preserving culture and sharing it with visitors. Right at this stall, I spotted something
02:25refreshing, fresh honeydew melon. And just like everything else in this market,
02:30even buying food comes with a unique experience. This is honeydew melon, very unique in Thailand.
02:48The ride at this market, you can pay in two main ways, either by cash or cure a scan.
02:54The ride at this market, I have come across a small stall making Pat Krapau and I think this is
03:08exactly
03:08what I'm having for lunch today. Honestly, what better way to experience a market like this than watching
03:19your food being prepared right in front of you. You can hear it, smell it, see every ingredient come
03:26together. Fresh chili, garlic, holy basil, all star fried over high heat. Simple ingredients but packed
03:33with flavor. And remember, it is served hot straight from the pan with rice and that perfect fried egg on
03:40the top. This is Thai comfort food at its best. Spicy, savory, slightly sweet. Everything just balances
03:49perfectly. This is what I love about places like this. It's not about eating, it's about the whole
03:54experience. Watching it being made, connecting with the vendor and testing something truly authentic.
04:00you can express the same. It's a good idea.
04:04not for the owner, but the owner. Yeah, this one is a good idea.
04:10Yeah, it's good, the owner's good.
04:12Okay, the owner is the owner and the owner and the owner.
04:18So this is the owner's good food.
04:24Let me talk about your food.
04:26Let me talk about your food.
04:28Not for the owner of your food, no, not for the owner.
04:30The owner and the owner's good code.
04:36my two plates are ready fresh hot and straight from the pan I'm just going to
04:42top it off with some cucumber a little freshness on the side to balance out the
04:47heat and spice right that looks amazing simple food done right
04:54spoon cup so we got mokob right here and the normal paka pal so you go to your egg right
05:07here break it
05:09mix it up the rice and pork that's a spoon of hope that's really good you get the instant heat
05:16of
05:16garlic and chili nice and punchy but not overpowering then the holy basil comes through slightly peppery
05:22really fragrant the meat is juicy full of flavor and the sauce is rich slightly sweet a little
05:29salty well everything just balances perfectly and with the rice it just sucks it all out and that
05:35fried egg on the top that just takes it to a whole new level creamy rich it smoothens out the
05:42spice so
05:43well then you've got the cucumber on the side super fresh really crisp it cools everything down and
05:49resets your palate the food was amazing simple flavorful and exactly what you would hope for
05:56in a place like this and just as I was heading out of the market I came across something I've
06:01never
06:02seen or tried before this is monkai or egg fruit also known as yellow sapote it's a unique Thai food
06:10with a bright yellow color that instantly stands out I thought it was a mango I'm curious what it
06:19looks like inside it's like uh mom one like mango no tomorrow open yeah okay cup wow hello my first
06:29time to see this first time my first time to see inside I'm told the texture is incredibly creamy also
06:36identical to a hard-boiled egg yolk that's actually surprising it's soft slightly dry but creamy like
06:44a sweet custard like egg yolk wow this fruit is very unique at first I thought it's a mango but
06:50it's not
06:51I'm told it's originates from uh Chiang Mai these other fruits I've seen before but this in particular
06:57I'm told the flavor is mild and naturally sweet not too strong but really unique it's a kind of fruit
07:05that's often eaten fresh blended into smoothies or used in desserts now that was really unexpected
07:11from incredible street food to unique fruits I've never tried before today has been more than just
07:17a visit to a market Hong Kong market isn't just about what you eat it's about stepping into a different
07:23time where traditions are still alive where people do things the old way and where every small moment
