00:28about how the things I was writing should be performed.
00:31I just took a good look at the play
00:33and thought about what the strongest version of it
00:36could be for the screen and wrote in that direction.

00:55and emotionally scarred,
00:57running from something and towards something simultaneously.

01:06There are things you can do on the stage
01:07that you maybe shouldn't do in a film.
01:10So I was really conscious of how much I could let the image
01:13do the work.
01:14When you're a first-time director
01:15and your stage play gets turned into a major film,
01:18it's just such a blessing.
01:20And Alicia Harris chose an amazing cast.
01:23Mallory.
01:24She's phenomenal.
01:25And Cara, who has two Tonys on Broadway.
01:29We all knew that the story was special,
01:31but when you work with Alicia,
01:33you see how dedicated and unique she is.

01:40Like, you will laugh.
01:42You will gasp.
01:44Oh, hell no.
01:45And you will have a collective adrenaline rush
01:47that only happens when you got community.
