00:00Come to Mama.
00:02Four sets of holiday hosts.
00:04Nice skid marks, that's good.
00:06Check in to each other's places.
00:08Hi, guys.
00:08Hello, good morning.
00:10And check out one another.
00:11We're really into meditation and spirituality.
00:15The glamping pod we're in, to me there's nothing coming about it.
00:18Today, there's a chill in the air.
00:24As they battle.
00:25We've been charged 25 quid for breakfast,
00:28and that tells you in there it's £12.
00:30So it does.
00:31To be named Best Value for Money.
00:33Five.
00:34That's savage.
00:41The third visit of the week is to Kirkabree in Dumfries and Galloway,
00:46and Domes by the Sea,
00:48owned by John and Andrew Picken,
00:50a band of brothers who aren't always in harmony.
00:54Probably describe myself as quite driven.
00:55I'm pretty relentless,
00:57probably very stubborn as well,
00:58so probably not the easiest to work with at times.
01:01It probably annoys him that I don't always speak my mind,
01:04and it annoys me that he sometimes speaks his mind too much.
01:07Yeah, I would agree with that completely, yeah.
01:09Guests looking for a peaceful stay
01:12can choose from one of three glamping domes
01:14for up to £250 a night,
01:17based on a two-night minimum,
01:18with an optional breakfast hamper priced at £25,
01:22in a place the hosts think is one of a kind.
01:26It's a completely unique experience.
01:28Each dome has an ensuite bathroom, kitchenette,
01:32and they've all got their own decking.
01:34On the decking there's a hot tub.
01:35I truly believe we have created something quite magical here.
01:38And for this pair, it's all about number one.
01:42It's a self-check-in system.
01:44We want people, when they come here,
01:45to fully switch off and relax,
01:46and we don't think that's possible
01:48when you've got to come and meet us.
01:50About to arrive are today's first guests,
01:52who are getting back to nature.
01:55I would love to look into the big cow's eyes
01:58first thing in the morning.
01:59If I wake up with a cow next to me,
02:01I'll get my black coffee and put some milk in it.
02:04Cream Crackard, our couple Cliff and Monica Clarke,
02:08owners of Finn Village in Croftemy, near Loch Lomond.
02:11Last time when they hosted...
02:13Good morning, welcome to Finn Village.
02:15John and Andrew didn't dip their toes in.
02:18So I'm not a big fan of an inside hot tub.
02:20You're just in a bath inside.
02:22Don't know why they felt the need to fill this room
02:24with fake nature.
02:25Really dislike it.
02:27At breakfast, the hosts took a hit.
02:29We'll be with you shortly.
02:31They've come here twice now.
02:32If I was coming here for a quiet getaway,
02:35I wouldn't want that much interaction.
02:37And at feedback, so did the scores.
02:40How were your hosts at Finn Village?
02:42I'm thinking of seven for that.
02:44How were the facilities?
02:46I think we're all going to have to go quite low here.
02:49Like a three.
02:50Three.
02:51This is incredible.
02:53Today, Cliff and Monica have the hosts' number.
02:57Competition is really fierce,
02:59especially from John and Andrew.
03:01Well, yeah, as I've got high expectations.
03:03We have high expectations.
03:05Oh, I received a text, Sterling.
03:08We look forward to welcoming you today.
03:11The price is £250 per night,
03:14based on a two-night minimum stay.
03:17You have opted to add a breakfast hamper,
03:19which is an additional £25.
03:22We have set the domes up,
03:23so guests never have to meet us.
03:26Does that mean they're not going to be there themselves?
03:30OK.
03:31This is something completely new to us.
03:34This is a nice big dome.
03:36Shall we have a look?
03:37Yes, let's have a look.
03:40Oh, we've got a view of the water.
03:42Beautiful sea view, yes.
03:45Let's go.
03:46Let's inspect inside.
03:49Ladies' fest.
03:51Oh, I love it here.
03:54Looks like a padded dome.
03:56I mean, it is a padded dome,
03:57but it's like a play dome.
03:59With Cliff and Monica kidding around,
04:01today's next guests are taking aim at the local area.
04:05It's a training school for the military firing range.
04:07Can we go quicker?
04:08LAUGHTER
04:10Shooting from the hip,
04:12our mother-daughter duo Fiona Livingstone
04:14and Melissa Harrison
04:16of the courtyard in Falkirk in the Forth Valley.
04:19On the last visit over drinks,
04:21the brothers dropped some hints.
04:23We're very proud of where we come from.
04:25We feel like Fries and Galloway
04:26is a forgotten area of Scotland.
04:28So we're going to take you for a night under the stars.
04:31Ooh.
04:32Wow.
04:32So today, Melissa and Fiona have a twinkle in their eye.
04:36Intrigued sleeping under the stars,
04:38which worries me.
04:40What worries you?
04:41That there's no roof to the blooming thing
04:43and what have you,
04:43or it's a transparent roof.
04:45Ha-ha-ha-ha.
04:46Oh.
04:47We look forward to welcoming you today.
04:49The price is £250 per night.
04:52We hope you have an amazing stay.
04:53Wow.
04:54Oh, how lovely.
04:58Oh, my goodness.
05:00Andrew and John said
05:01we'd be able to sleep under the stars.
05:04Yeah.
05:04Where do you think you're going to see the stars
05:06through those little things?
05:07With Melissa and Fiona hoping the stars will align,
05:10today's next guest is on the beat.
05:13My name's Sue.
05:14I'm coming for you.
05:15If your place is like poo,
05:17I'm going to give you a two.
05:19Delivering poetry in motion
05:21is Sue Grundy,
05:22owner of Brooklyn's Guest House
05:24in Penrith, Cumbria.
05:26Earlier in the week,
05:27John and Andrew cultivated clues.
05:29We're actually fourth-generation farmers.
05:31No prior experience of anything
05:34other than dairy cows and sheep.
05:36And today,
05:37Sue's digging in.
05:38They're fourth-generation farmers,
05:40so probably they will be very professional
05:43and, you know,
05:45I've thought everything through,
05:46so, yeah,
05:47I think it probably will be run very well.
05:51You will be staying in Orion.
05:53The price of Orion is £200 per night.
05:57Sounds good.
06:03Yeah, it's nice.
06:04The view and everything.
06:06Nice, you can bring your dogs.
06:07There's a little crate there.
06:09With the hosts out of the way,
06:11the guests can see if Domes by the Sea
06:14is onto a sure thing.
06:16Nice white linen,
06:17is that like, yeah?
06:19Long burning stove.
06:20Oh, lovely.
06:21It's all set up as well,
06:22which is nice.
06:23Good.
06:24It's very nice and clean.
06:26Obviously,
06:27they allow animals in this part,
06:28but I don't know
06:29if I would keep that in here all the time.
06:30Still got some of last time's dog on it.
06:32Absolutely.
06:34It looks clean.
06:35I can't see any hairs or anything.
06:37It seems like duvet is nice
06:39down duvet.
06:41The door checkers.
06:43Could do with a little bit of a wipe.
06:44Uh-huh.
06:46Oh, that seems a nice space.
06:49Oh, douglies.
06:50Oh, dear.
06:54Oh, no.
06:55There's a few splashes on there.
06:58Let's see how we're going to pop them.
06:59Yeah.
07:00Not covered.
07:03This is one of the reasons
07:04why we covered over,
07:05because this is actually getting a bit damp.
07:07Obviously, you cannot use outside area in the rain.
07:10Everything's there that you need,
07:11but the kitchen,
07:13it's a little bit cheap looking.
07:16Oh, delicious.
07:19That looks good.
07:20I'm looking forward to trying that.
07:21Me too.
07:22Room inspections almost over.
07:24Sue's buttoned up.
07:26Oh.
07:27Oh.
07:27It's got more than one speed.
07:29Here you go.
07:30Ready or not.
07:31Melissa and Fiona hope for sweet dreams.
07:34Oh.
07:35I've been mashed for food.
07:37And Cliff and Monica are neither shy nor retiring.
07:41Maybe a little bit more privacy on the sides,
07:43because if you're in a hot tub,
07:44you can't skinny dip.
07:45I can.
07:50Dumpfries and Galloway was home to the world's first savings bank,
07:54known as the Ruthwell Parish Bank,
07:57founded in 1810.
07:59And today,
07:59hosts Andrew and John are hoping to coin it in
08:02by giving their guests a taster of their sister business,
08:06a wood-fired sauna and cold water baths.
08:09We've already been doing training for this,
08:11so we're going to show everyone how it's done.
08:13Yeah, we've been having cold and hot showers in the mornings
08:15for the last few months.
08:16Yeah.
08:17So we're prepared.
08:18And with everyone robed up,
08:21John takes the plunge.
08:22Welcome to Sauna at the Sea.
08:24This is our on-site wellness area.
08:26Any future plans to add another sauna, another bit part?
08:30So we actually have just launched our mobile sauna.
08:33So it's an old horse box that we've converted.
08:35Yeah, it's been so popular already.
08:37An idea with that is we will bring it to you,
08:39drop it off and leave here.
08:40That's amazing.
08:41Have you ever had any, you know,
08:42people that are in touch with nature
08:44that want to just bear it all?
08:46Thankfully, so far we've not.
08:48Who knows what the future holds?
08:49And it's not starting the day, I can assure you.
08:51It's not starting the day, no.
08:52I'll decide.
08:54John and Andrew were just brilliant today.
08:56I think they oozed pride in their product.
08:59Oh, 100%.
08:59They've got their heads screwed on.
09:01They know what they're doing
09:02and what direction they want to take it.
09:03Totally.
09:03With John and Andrew departed,
09:06the guests get steamy in the sauna.
09:08I know how the onions fail at the hot dog fair
09:10with the one being sauteed.
09:14Nice.
09:14Beautiful.
09:15It's burning my cheeks.
09:16What, your bum?
09:17Your bum?
09:17Your bum?
09:18Your bum cheeks.
09:19But it could be the hosts facing the heat.
09:22I bet John and Andrew are probably sweating a little bit,
09:24even though they didn't get into the sauna,
09:26but after the scores they give us,
09:27I bet they're sweating as to what we're going to give them.
09:30While tensions may be simmering,
09:32the baths are ice cold.
09:34Oh, that's so nice.
09:37Oh, shoot!
09:40And Sue reveals she's a cool customer.
09:43Yay!
09:43All right, well done.
09:45Well done.
09:47She's there for you.
09:51I've just watched you.
09:53Sue was just...
09:55Sue?
09:55Sue.
09:56Just good fun.
09:57I'll take my hat off to her for getting in that.
09:59Plummed baths.
10:00So do I.
10:00So do I.
10:02And with the afternoon coming to an end,
10:04two of the guests are thinking of the night ahead.
10:07Definitely looking forward to drinks,
10:08asking a few more questions,
10:10and then back to hitting the hot tub.
10:11Yeah, let's get the tunes banging.
10:13Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
10:23The third visit of the week
10:24is to Kirkabree, Dumfries and Galloway
10:27and Domes by the Sea.
10:29Where the hosts are on call.
10:31Hello, John here.
10:33Listen, it's Fiona.
10:34There was water left in the kettle
10:35and when I poured it out, it's a bit scaly.
10:38Could you possibly change it for me, please?
10:40Yeah, yeah, let's no bother.
10:42Hiya, John.
10:43It's just Sue.
10:43I've had a little bit of a problem with my shower
10:46and there's a bit of a flooding situation.
10:48Yeah, I'll bring a mop down.
10:49All right, thanks, John.
10:51With the issues cleaned up
10:55and everyone scrubbed up,
10:57the hosts have invited their guests to take in the views.
11:02It's beautiful.
11:04Cheers.
11:04Cheers.
11:05Absolutely beautiful.
11:06Stunning.
11:07And the farmers begin with some market research.
11:10So we advertise as a luxury glamping experience.
11:14What does luxury mean to you guys?
11:17For me, luxury means that I feel comfortable.
11:20The cleanliness thing for me, that's still part of the luxury.
11:23For me, definitely a hot tub adds a luxury to the glamping experience.
11:29It would be nice if it was covered and weatherproof
11:31because I believe that in winter months...
11:34That's the best time to use a hot tub.
11:36I honestly believe that's what a hot tub is at its best.
11:38When you're warm from here down
11:40and you can feel the cold elements.
11:42Yeah.
11:43100%.
11:44You need to try it.
11:45In the winter.
11:46Yeah, tell that to our guests.
11:49Barcliffe and Monica,
11:51the rest of the company seem to agree with our thoughts.
11:53So hopefully that'll play into our hands.
11:55Hot tubs uncovered.
11:57The morning meal is on the menu.
11:59So we are a self-catered accommodation,
12:01but I notice all you guys have opted for the breakfast hamper.
12:05You'll not see us in the morning,
12:06as we never deal with people,
12:08but we'll catch up with you down at Sue's.
12:11So I hope you have a great night.
12:12OK.
12:14Oh, I thought you were going to come and cook me sausages for me.
12:18John and Andrew, they've built a business
12:20with not much communication with the guests.
12:24We love personal experience with our guests, that's for sure.
12:28We want the guests to have the most comfortable experience,
12:31so obviously if they are familiar with our facilities and amenities,
12:34it's much easier stay for them.
12:37So, Sue, you're the last stay.
12:40I think we're all intrigued to know what it's going to be.
12:42What do you think it's going to be?
12:44I think it's going to be a B&B.
12:45I think it'll be a reflection of you.
12:47I think there'll be some quirky bits.
12:49Are you saying I'm quirky, Bea?
12:51I'm saying you're quirky and different.
12:55I think...
12:55Homely.
12:56Very homely, yeah.
12:57It is very homely.
12:58Well, it's vintage.
13:00It's like going back in time, about 100 years.
13:03Is there electricity, sir?
13:04You've got electricity.
13:06A built-in toilet.
13:07Yeah, yeah, you've got a built-in toilet.
13:09I would probably see Sue's place quite homely.
13:13I still think she's going to tuck us in,
13:15which I'm quite looking forward to.
13:16So am I.
13:17So am I.
13:18Maybe read us a bedtime story.
13:20Lovely.
13:21Drinks done, some of the guests splash out.
13:27Come and get me in the morning.
13:29Is this just magical, just watching these stars just come out?
13:34I know, I could lie and donate, to be honest.
13:35Me too.
13:42It's a new day in Kirkcabry.
13:44And for Cliff and Monica, it's pillow talk.
13:47We slept okay.
13:48We just had to shove a cushion in the window
13:51because of that beam of light coming in our face.
13:53Also, it was pretty cold and it took a while to heat it up.
13:56And this pair don't believe less is more.
13:59There was no basic toiletries, such as shampoo, body wash or conditioner,
14:04which I would expect in luxury dumping.
14:07Have you also noticed that there is no iron on ironing board?
14:11This morning, all the guests have opted for the £25 breakfast hamper,
14:16which they'll be cooking along with ingredients they've brought themselves,
14:19while the hosts get on with the day job.
14:22While our guests down at the domes are making breakfast,
14:25we're just business as usual on the farm.
14:27And while the hosts work the fields, the guests check out their harvest.
14:32Nice organic eggs.
14:34They look lovely.
14:36Oh, that's nice.
14:37Oh, and we have breakfast pack.
14:39Yep.
14:40It contains everything you need.
14:41So obviously it looks lovely,
14:44but we've been charged £25 for breakfast,
14:47and that tells you in there it's £12.
14:50So it does.
14:51Are you having a bit of toast?
14:53Yes, please.
14:54Well, it's the word to bring that ourselves, but...
14:56We did, yeah.
14:56That was a bit disappointing, actually.
15:00A pair of scissors would have been handy.
15:03There's no butter.
15:04I think that bread and the butter
15:06probably would have just finished it off.
15:09I just think a little half-pat of butter and a loaf of bread
15:12might have been a good addition for that money.
15:15Produce picked over...
15:17Eggs are coming together.
15:18Well, I'm not going to like you.
15:20You look beautiful.
15:21..and cooking complete...
15:23Voila.
15:24..the guests dine on the decking.
15:26Oh, wow, this is stunning.
15:29The best bit about camping is having your breakfast alfresco.
15:33..and they all dig in.
15:36Black pins, lovely.
15:37Yeah, it looks really, really nice.
15:39Yeah, it looks good butcher quality.
15:40How's your sausage?
15:43That's a bit personal for the cricket.
15:45Oh.
15:48That's good.
15:49It's good quality.
15:51Being able to use this area and sit out here, it's so peaceful.
15:54Just a nice place to sit and eat breakfast.
15:57Having breakfast outside with that view to look at
16:01was absolutely awesome.
16:04Unbelievable.
16:05Vista vouched for, Cliff and Monica have views on the forms.
16:08We do have a lot of points for our feedback that we were going to bring up.
16:13But it's totally constructive.
16:14So it's very clear and straightforward.
16:17I think Andrew and John have a completely different idea of luxury glamping.
16:22We've got room for improvement.
16:23And obviously, as to whether we think it's value for money for now, we're not so sure.
16:31Breakfast finished.
16:32The guests head back inside to fill out the anonymous feedback forms.
16:36How are your hosts at Domes by the Sea?
16:40Passionate about their business?
16:42Yep.
16:42I think they deserve a take.
16:44Do we would like to see more of them?
16:45Well, I did feel that there was a lack of interaction.
16:48So I think five would be further.
16:51How clean was Domes by the Sea?
16:54On the whole, it was very clean, apart from a few little marks on the toilet.
16:58A nine.
16:59Dog crate should have been removed.
17:01Yep.
17:02Dog hairs found the kettle needs to be emptied and de-skilled.
17:06We also found dust on the hinges.
17:10I think sex.
17:11How were the facilities?
17:13So we start off with bases missing, but lack of privacy.
17:16In the morning, it was really cold.
17:18Regarding the outside area, I really feel that the roof over the hot tub would be a nice touch.
17:25I think five is probably a reasonable score.
17:27I do think the kitchen is a little bit cheap looking.
17:30It's not exuding luxury, is it?
17:33Had an issue with the shower flooding.
17:34I love, loved the hot tub.
17:37An eight.
17:38How did you sleep?
17:40Quality bedding.
17:41I'm going to put bright lights through our home.
17:45I don't think it's worth going any lower than nine.
17:48How was breakfast?
17:51Really good quality produce.
17:52Missing some items.
17:54Not good value for money as price was left on breakfast.
17:59I think an eight.
18:01Ingredients were good quality.
18:05A hamper missing.
18:07Butter and small loaf.
18:10And scissors would have been in handy.
18:12I'm going to go for the seven.
18:13So, time for the big question.
18:16Would you stay here again?
18:18Beautiful surroundings.
18:19The guys have been amazing.
18:20I would definitely come back.
18:21Yes, I would.
18:23I'm not sure that it's something I'd want to come back to.
18:27So, it's good now.
18:30Now, the guests must pay what they think their stay was worth.
18:34We all agreed?
18:35We're agreed.
18:36The cash will be kept secret until the end of the competition.
18:39But for now, John and Andrew can see if domes by the sea could coast the competition.
18:46How clean was domes by the sea?
18:48We've got a nine.
18:49Happy with a nine.
18:50On the whole, the dome was very clean.
18:52A few marks in the toilet.
18:54A wee mark in the toilet is all there is.
18:55And it's a pretty good job.
18:57How were the facilities?
18:58We've got an eight.
18:59The kitchen doesn't exude luxury.
19:01We get a lot of feedback that people love the set-up of the kitchen.
19:04Had an issue with the shower draining.
19:06Yes, so this is definitely Sue.
19:08Yeah.
19:08We've had that once before.
19:09So, we potentially could look at getting a drainage covered.
19:12Loved the hot tub.
19:14Yeah, good.
19:15That is one of the major selling points.
19:17How was the breakfast?
19:18We've got a seven for that.
19:19It's not brilliant.
19:20The ingredients were good quality.
19:22That's a nice positive.
19:23The hamper is just missing butter and a small loaf.
19:26When guests book, they get the option of selecting the breakfast hamper,
19:29and it does break down what is in it.
19:31Scissors would have been handy.
19:32We probably should have scissors in there.
19:34Yeah.
19:37So, do you think she'd stay again?
19:38I would expect her to say yes here.
19:41Let's have a look.
19:41She's gone for a yes, so...
19:43Good.
19:44That's a very good start, isn't it?
19:47How were your hosts at Domes by the Sea?
19:49And we've got a ten.
19:50Great, we'll take ten.
19:51Passionate about their business.
19:52I think that's brilliant.
19:53I love seeing the word passionate.
19:54How clean was Domes by the Sea?
19:56We scored a six here.
19:58That seems very harsh.
19:59Dog crate should have been removed.
20:00Yeah, if you were coming to stay here,
20:02you'd just message and say,
20:03I don't have a dog.
20:04Can you remove the crate, so...
20:06Dog hairs found.
20:07That is just the risk you run when you allow dogs.
20:09Kettle needs emptied and descaled.
20:11So this must be Mel and Fiona.
20:13Yeah.
20:13To be fair, I think we hold our hands up on that one.
20:15I've never looked inside a kettle in my life.
20:17Dust found on hinges.
20:19You can find a wee bit,
20:20but we think our domes are very, very clean, so...
20:23How was breakfast?
20:24It's an eight.
20:24Yeah, that's good.
20:25Really good quality produce.
20:27Yeah, happy with that.
20:28Missing items.
20:30Sue and now, Fiona and Mel have said that,
20:33so I guess it's something we can look into.
20:35Not good value for money as price was left on breakfast.
20:38Yeah, we definitely shouldn't have the price on the breakfast.
20:40That's not a good look at all.
20:44So, I think Mel and Fiona will stay again?
20:47I hope so.
20:48And it's a yes.
20:49So, that's good.
20:53So that means the last feedback's from Cliff and Monica.
20:55Hoping they've come to ours with an open mind.
20:57How are your hosts at Domes by the Sea?
20:59Five.
21:00So I would say no.
21:02They've not got over our feedback.
21:04That's savage.
21:05We would love to see more of them.
21:06Well, that's a kind of pointless point
21:08in a self-check-in, hostless accommodation.
21:11Lack of interaction.
21:13Again, that's just the same as the first point,
21:14but that is not what we're selling.
21:16How are the facilities?
21:18Five again.
21:19Basics missing.
21:20I just...
21:20I just don't know.
21:22What is this?
21:24Lack of privacy.
21:25It's a bizarre comment when
21:27the reason we got slated as hosts
21:29was because we weren't there.
21:30And now they want more privacy.
21:32Cold in the morning.
21:33How warm has the temperature just been?
21:36Anyway, yeah, that's what they felt.
21:37So that's what it was.
21:39We would love roof over the hot tub.
21:41That is just pure personal preference.
21:44How did you sleep?
21:45Nine.
21:45That's good.
21:46Quality bedding.
21:47Yeah, happy with that.
21:49Bright light through the porthole.
21:51It's a shame because
21:52there's pillows there for blocking it.
21:57So, you think they'll stay again?
21:59Let's have a look.
22:01No.
22:01That, to me, is the...
22:03It's like the perfect conclusion.
22:07I think there's a few questions for payment day.
22:09Yeah.
22:12Next time when Sue hosts...
22:14Good morning, guys.
22:16Welcome to Brooklyn's.
22:17There's a bad hair day...
22:19Oh, there's a lot.
22:20It's like somebody came in and had a shave before we go.
22:21And some home truths.
22:23Obviously, a lot of the time you're dealing with animals,
22:26so your interacting with people is probably a lot less.
22:29Martha Blue is your participant.
22:30Oh, there's a half-overty.
22:31You're also here.
22:31That's right.
22:32Thank you, Angel.
22:35Bye.
22:36Bye.
22:38Bye.
22:38Bye.
22:43Bye.
22:45Bye.
22:51Bye.
22:52You
