Car maker Nissan says it will cut around nine hundred jobs across Europe and merge production lines at its Sunderland plant. The company says the changes are part of a wider restructuring plan and no UK jobs will be lost from the line move.

00:06European restructure. The carmaker says it will consolidate two lines, building the Leaf, Duke
00:12and Qashqai models into a single production line. Across Europe, around 900 jobs will go as part of
00:19a 10% workforce reduction. Nissan says that no UK jobs will be lost because of the line merger,
00:25although a small number of office roles are included in wider European changes.
00:30The company says the moves are part of its recovery plan. It says discussions are ongoing with staff
00:36and it's looking at future opportunities for the Sunderland site, which currently runs below full
00:42capacity.
