00:01Tonight on the thrilling season finale of The Curse of Oak Island.
00:05Start your engines.
00:06If there's a vault below here, this can tell us.
00:09Wow.
00:09It can lead literally to where treasure's deposited.
00:12Whoa, check this out.
00:14This is strange.
00:15This came from 200 feet in the money pit.
00:17That's incredible.
00:18Oh, yeah.
00:19Oh, you got it.
00:20Oh, my gosh.
00:22Oh, wow.
00:22It's treasure from the money pit spoils.
00:25That's amazing.
00:26Yeah.
00:26And it's ours.
00:31There is an island in the North Atlantic where people have been looking for an incredible treasure for more than
00:39200 years.
00:41So far, they have found a stone slab with strange symbols carved into it, man-made workings that date to
00:50medieval times, and a lead cross whose origin may be connected to the Knights Templar.
00:56To date, six men have died trying to solve the mystery.
01:02And, according to legend, one more will have to die before the treasure can be found.
01:25Hello, guys.
01:26It's a new day.
01:28So I'm optimistic here in money pit one.
01:30Terry, remind me what depth we finished at yesterday.
01:32Finished up at 138.
01:34Winter is fast approaching on Oak Island, which means the year will soon come to an end for Rick, Marty,
01:41and their team.
01:43But as they excavate a key target in the money pit area, they may have all the time they need
01:49to solve a 231-year-old mystery.
01:54We're just about 12 to 20 feet short of the actual solution channel top.
01:58So, high hopes.
02:00We're just now getting to the most interesting depth, and it's only going to get better from here on out.
02:04And that's music to my ears because that means there could be artifacts at any level we're going through.
02:10Mm-hmm.
02:12The seven-foot diameter shaft, known as money pit one, or MP1, is located in a region where soil and
02:20water tests from more than 200 feet deep in the solution channel have revealed unnaturally high traces of silver.
02:34All right, Terry, let's get stuck in.
02:36Got it.
02:36And even more compelling is the fact that those silver levels match the composition of the so-called pit-bladoh
02:45coin, a 14th-century silver coin reportedly extracted from the original money pit in 1849 by a drilling foreman named
02:54James Pit-bladoh.
03:01Big signal here, mate.
03:06Big signal here, mate.
03:13Is that it, Tim?
03:20Wow.
03:22Oh, piece of drill pipe.
03:23Piece of drill pipe.
03:24Looks about two inches.
03:26Yeah.
03:27It's a little bigger than that inch and a half stuff.
03:29So, it's a little different, isn't it?
03:31Yeah.
03:32Okay.
03:32Be interesting to see how old that is.
03:34Yeah.
03:35Yeah. Well, that was an interesting go.
03:37What'd you find?
03:38Two-inch pipe.
03:40Two-inch pipe.
03:40Yeah.
03:42So the last time we found two-inch pipe out here, that dated in the lab to mid-1800s.
03:47Right.
03:47We figured it may be connected to the Pit Blado incident, right?
03:50Yeah.
03:51I think this is more of that same pipe.
03:53Yeah.
03:54Earlier this year, as the team was core drilling just a few feet from this location,
04:00they recovered an identical piece of drill pipe that was scientifically dated to the same era as James Pit Blado's
04:07drilling operation.
04:09We are chasing the collapse of the money pit, so it's possible that we are in the vicinity of the
04:14original money pit.
04:15Exactly.
04:16It's an interesting artifact.
04:19Hey, guys.
04:20Hey.
04:20Hello, buddy.
04:21Good morning.
04:21Hey, Adam.
04:21How you doing?
04:22So what do you got?
04:23We're at 151.
04:24Right.
04:25We're going to push pretty hard here on these next few turns.
04:28Sounds good.
04:29That's good.
04:30Everything from here on out is going to be good for us, I think.
04:33Yeah.
04:34Good.
04:35Okay, guys.
04:35Thank you for the update.
04:36Yep.
04:37See you, Mike.
04:38Onward and downward for sure.
04:40Mm-hmm.
04:41Target depth's about 215.
04:43We've just got to get down there.
04:45As the dig continues in the MP1 shaft.
04:51Hey, Laird.
04:51Fiona.
04:52I got my support troops here today.
04:54You sure do.
04:55Yep.
04:55Marty brings Rick to the mysterious stone cradle on Lot 8 to update him on a potentially important
05:02recent discovery.
05:04So, Rick, I dug a trench over there to see if there was something underneath it.
05:08What if it covered a tunnel?
05:11Yeah.
05:12Then I dug down to bedrock.
05:14Yeah.
05:15You both observed I was pounding on it.
05:17The teeth were scraping.
05:19And you were hitting it directly.
05:20Yeah.
05:22After the team previously found evidence of both silver and a possible shaft buried below
05:28the mysterious cradle of stones, Marty dug a trench to the side of it in search of a
05:34possible tunnel.
05:37However, he was surprised to reach bedrock just six feet down, which is at a shallower depth
05:43than the cradle feature.
05:45Here's where you come in, Ian.
05:48Laird never hit bedrock in the stone cradle.
05:51It's as if this was dug through the bedrock.
05:53Right.
05:54Topographic change of rock over a short distance isn't something I've experienced anywhere.
05:59Mm-hmm.
06:00It's impossible to be more surprised than we were to find that rock cradle.
06:05It's intentional.
06:06It's purposeful.
06:07So, I think there's more work to be done to come to an understanding of what this is.
06:11Is there something, Hunter, here?
06:13We need to find out.
06:15The lot eight feature represents one of the most enigmatic finds on the island.
06:21And Phil and Laird are taking the time to uncover the cradle.
06:25But we're going to run out of time here.
06:27There's no question about it.
06:29Perhaps we need to take a different approach.
06:32Well, if we want to know how far bedrock is there, the only thing I can think of is basically
06:38a hammer drill if you want to keep on going down, down, down here.
06:41You need like a pneumatic hammer drill.
06:44Yeah.
06:45Yeah.
06:45A hammer drill would work.
06:49Often utilized in masonry, a hammer drill is a power tool that simultaneously rotates
06:55and hammers an attached auger bit into a hard surface, such as stone or concrete.
07:01The percussive motion allows the drill to penetrate denser objects more efficiently than a standard drill.
07:09And it wouldn't shake and vibrate the cradle?
07:12No, no, it doesn't shake.
07:13It doesn't do anything.
07:13Just checking.
07:13It's more that I'm thinking of shaking the rocks loose that I don't wish to come loose.
07:17Yeah.
07:18What do you think?
07:19No, it sounds good.
07:21Yeah.
07:22You know, if we're not finding the bedrock, I think we need to keep on going just in case
07:27there's a shaft or a tunnel underneath here.
07:29I mean, while we're here, we should get it done.
07:31No, we don't want to do it invasively or destructively.
07:34But I think, to your point, I'd like to know where bedrock is.
07:38Me too, Rick.
07:38I mean, both of you have said that many, many times.
07:41You know?
07:42Is there something hiding under here?
07:44Let's do this for right now.
07:45We don't have the right equipment right now.
07:47Let's go talk to Billy and see what he's got.
07:48Yeah.
07:49And then we'll come back here and see if we can get to the bottom of this.
07:53All right.
07:53See you later.
07:57Meanwhile.
07:58Hey, Katja.
07:59Hi, Steve.
08:00How's it going here?
08:01Really good.
08:01This area has just been amazing for us.
08:04We're digging through a lot of the old spoils from old searchers.
08:09Steve Guptill joins Katja Drayton and Billy Gerhardt,
08:13several yards south of the Money Pit area,
08:16to search the so-called Dunfield spoils.
08:20These are several mounds of earth that were excavated from the Money Pit
08:24by Robert Dunfield in 1965 during his unsuccessful effort
08:29to recover the treasure.
08:32Could be quite exciting today.
08:34Well, let's find some treasure.
08:35Yeah, let's find something.
08:36Yep.
08:39Robert Dunfield's efforts to conduct his big dig
08:42certainly pushed a lot of spoils piles in the Money Pit down the hill.
08:48And they were never really investigated for clues
08:51to the area we are now intent on exploring.
08:54So the hope is that we will find artifacts that will help us unravel
08:59what happened in the Money Pit long ago.
09:09Oh, you got a hit?
09:10That sounds really good.
09:11It sounds really good.
09:15Oh, it's small, too, and non-ferrous.
09:18Right here?
09:19Yep.
09:19All right.
09:22Where would you like it?
09:23Anywhere in front of me is fine.
09:29That's it?
09:31Yeah, we'll give it a little pinpoint in the hole,
09:34see if we can find it.
09:37Ooh, I'm on it.
09:40Oh, you got it.
09:43Oh, my gosh.
09:48It's very clean.
09:49What is that?
09:51I mean, the things that really don't corrode are precious metals.
09:57While searching spoils that were removed from the Money Pit
10:00by treasure hunters more than 60 years ago...
10:03I think that we just found a silver coin.
10:06Oh, wow.
10:08Katya has just made a potentially critical discovery.
10:12I've learned that when you don't have, what do you call it,
10:14the beveled edges?
10:16Milled edges.
10:16Milled edges.
10:17Yes.
10:18Okay, so that dates back to older.
10:20Much.
10:22In the late 17th century,
10:25Sir Isaac Newton,
10:26who also served as the master of the Royal Mint of England,
10:30was the first to design coins with milled edges.
10:34This was done in order to combat counterfeiting.
10:38Now, you know, you can see something written on the edge there.
10:42Could that mean that this silver coin
10:44may date back to the 1600s or even earlier?
10:49We've been looking for silver in the Money Pit a long time,
10:51and based on what Dr. Spooner has shown us,
10:54there is a bunch of silver up there somewhere.
10:57Could be a whole bunch of that somewhere, right?
10:59And I should run that back to the lab.
11:00I agree.
11:01Good find, Katya.
11:05Later that day...
11:08Is there a vault below here or something?
11:11This could tell us.
11:13Rick, Marty, Craig, and other members of the team
11:16arrive at the Man-Made Depression on Lot 8,
11:19dubbed the Stone Cradle.
11:22Laird, as long as he's in that square area,
11:25he can drill multiple holes?
11:27Oh, yeah, absolutely.
11:28In our world, it's transitioned from archaeology to geology.
11:31So when you bring it up, we'll get the sample.
11:34Start your engines.
11:36Laird is allowing the team to punch a three-foot hole
11:39in the bottom of the cradle with a hammer drill
11:42to collect new soil samples
11:44and look for evidence of man-made workings
11:47buried deeper below.
11:50Well, it's going.
11:51There he goes.
11:54What if we just don't even encounter the bedrock at all?
11:57That would tend to mean something.
11:59And whatever might be interesting is deeper yet.
12:02That went down quite far.
12:04It doesn't seem like it's bedrock.
12:06Well, we're about to find out.
12:08Trade spots.
12:10And I'll take that sample.
12:16It's pretty gritty.
12:20That's enough?
12:21But look at the color in that.
12:24It doesn't look like bedrock to me.
12:26Okay.
12:27Well, let's drill a boulder that has slate
12:29and see how it compares.
12:30Yeah, let's see what the difference is
12:31and we can see what the cuttings look like
12:33and the penetration rate and all that stuff.
12:35In order to be sure that they have not drilled
12:38through the slate bedrock beneath the cradle feature,
12:41the team will now drill into a nearby boulder
12:44that is also composed of slate.
12:46This will allow them to see
12:48if the drill experiences the same kind of resistance.
12:58It's a little bit harder.
12:59Kind of what I thought.
13:01That's not bedrock.
13:03No.
13:06I bet you the bit's heating up a lot more than it did as well.
13:09Yeah, I wouldn't touch that bit.
13:11The conclusion has to be that it's not on bedrock.
13:15Is there a feature or a void or a tunnel or a shaft
13:20underneath the cradle or close by?
13:23Okay, here's what we can be certain of.
13:25We're not done with this.
13:27I agree.
13:28Not till we get an answer.
13:30Of all the frustrating archaeological waits
13:33we have had to endure,
13:35this one is the most aggravating.
13:38I thought by the end of this year
13:39we would have figured it out, but we haven't.
13:42The archaeologists are incredibly protective of the site
13:46for good reasons,
13:47but I'd really like to know what's at the bottom of it
13:50because I know there's a good chance
13:51of something really interesting.
13:53I think it's good that it gives us a little bit of time
13:56to actually do some research on this as well.
13:58We certainly know it's purposeful
14:00and extremely significant.
14:02Well, let's run with that.
14:03In the meantime, we will leave you to it for now.
14:06Thanks.
14:07Okay, let's go.
14:08Okay.
14:09Thank you, guys.
14:11After finishing their work on Lot 8...
14:15Watch your back.
14:17I'm going to shake Dylan.
14:18Just watch yourself.
14:18While the dig proceeds in the MP1 shaft...
14:23Welcome back to the lab, everybody.
14:25Emma's ready with some data.
14:27Members of the team meet
14:29to receive a scientific report
14:31on the believed silver coin
14:33found near the Money Pit area.
14:36Well, right off the bat,
14:37I'm just going to confirm that it is silver.
14:39Solid silver.
14:41It's a silver alloy.
14:43What did you get?
14:44What percent?
14:4687%.
14:47Oh, that's good enough for me.
14:49Yeah.
14:50That's a silver coin.
14:51It's a silver coin, yeah.
14:53What do you make of that?
14:54It is very worn.
14:55It took a lot of effort
14:57to get a good image in the CT scan.
15:00What you're seeing on the screen right now
15:02is all that remains on the coin.
15:05So you have the back of the head,
15:07which is very clearly remaining.
15:11You have a very clear MVS
15:14and then some lettering over here.
15:16Wow.
15:17Which is great for identification.
15:20So this is an overlay of the CT image
15:22on top of the coin
15:25that I found on the coin database.
15:27Oh, yes.
15:28You can certainly see that.
15:30Mm-hmm.
15:31And I got an exact match
15:33with the six pence William III.
15:37Wow.
15:38Really?
15:38So it's English.
15:40That's amazing.
15:41Yeah.
15:43And that all aligns
15:46with this coin right there.
15:47And you can see the ribbon.
15:49Perfectly.
15:49Yeah.
15:50Oh, yeah.
15:51Now that you show that,
15:52I can see it right in the coin.
15:54Yeah.
15:56Cool.
15:57What date are you putting on this?
15:59So the date range is 1697 to 1701.
16:04Whoa.
16:09What date are you putting on this?
16:11So the date range is 1697 to 1701.
16:16Wow.
16:17It's so significant.
16:19That is a full hundred years
16:21before discovery of the money pit.
16:23I think it's great.
16:24Yeah.
16:25In the lab,
16:26Emma has confirmed
16:27that a silver coin
16:29found in the Dunfield spoils
16:30is more than three centuries old.
16:34Common people
16:35weren't carrying silver.
16:36So this probably
16:37wasn't a worker?
16:37No.
16:38Somebody of means, right?
16:40Yeah.
16:41A hundred years
16:42before the money pit
16:43was discovered
16:44is a heck of a long time.
16:46A very long time.
16:47That's a big deal.
16:48Mm-hmm.
16:49These late 1600 dates
16:51lead you one of two places.
16:53Either that's the time
16:54of the depositor
16:55or searchers
16:56that were searching
16:56before the money pit
16:57was discovered.
16:59Bottom line,
17:00this is a silver coin
17:01and I would call it
17:02a piece of treasure.
17:03I think it's
17:04an incredibly important discovery.
17:05But just like
17:06almost everything
17:07we've found
17:07all over the island
17:08continues to provide
17:10partial answers
17:11and then pose
17:12a lot more questions.
17:14We found a silver
17:16treasure coin
17:17in money pit spoils
17:19on Oak Island.
17:20It's treasure
17:21from the money pit spoils.
17:23It's silver.
17:23It's...
17:25It's ours.
17:27It's the end of the year
17:29and we were hoping
17:30to find more coins
17:31or a chest
17:32or a keg full
17:33of the Portuguese
17:34treasure coins.
17:35But it validates
17:37the reason why we're here.
17:39I'm not willing
17:39to give up
17:40on solving the mystery.
17:42I mean,
17:42we say it all the time,
17:43sempre avanti,
17:44you do not stop.
17:47Very cool.
17:48A big well done
17:49to everybody involved.
17:51All right, let's go.
17:52See you later.
17:53No problem.
17:57As a new day
17:58begins on Oak Island.
18:01Guys.
18:02Hey, guys.
18:02The two gentlemen
18:03we want to see.
18:04Where are we,
18:05Hadeep?
18:06So we're about
18:07at 195 depth.
18:08Good stuff.
18:09195.
18:10Got it.
18:11Rick and other members
18:12of the team
18:13monitor the progress
18:14of the MP1 shaft,
18:16which has now reached
18:17the solution channel.
18:20Just hoping
18:21to find one thing.
18:23We're working on it.
18:24We'll keep you updated.
18:27Appreciate it.
18:28Yes, sir.
18:31Go over there
18:32and find something.
18:36A lot of muck and mud.
18:38Yeah.
18:39Got something?
18:43A signal.
18:45Right there.
18:53It's in here.
18:54Whatever it is.
18:56It's like a heavy chunk of metal.
18:58Yeah.
18:59Don't know what it is
18:59until it's washed off.
19:00So what's it?
19:02This is a piece
19:03of twisted metal
19:05from the MP1 spoils
19:07at the moment.
19:08But when it goes back
19:10to the lab,
19:11maybe Emma runs scans
19:13and tells us
19:14it's something
19:14completely different.
19:17There's a lot of stuff
19:18caped on it,
19:19for sure.
19:20This could be
19:21some kind of
19:22bladed tool
19:23because I see
19:24a curve on it.
19:25See if you're the guys
19:26can make head
19:27and the tails of it.
19:29It's very heavy.
19:31Whatever it is,
19:32it's been down
19:32there a long time.
19:34This is really,
19:35really hard.
19:36It's been on there
19:36for a long time.
19:38Let's bag it, Terry.
19:40I don't know what it is,
19:41but it certainly
19:41has the appearance
19:42of being old.
19:46Hey,
19:47got another load
19:48waiting for us.
19:48Yeah.
19:48Let's find some more.
19:57Yeah,
19:58that is strange.
19:59Good morning, Billy.
20:00Yep.
20:06Check this out.
20:07I watched it
20:08and I see this.
20:09Oh, yeah.
20:09Stain in it.
20:11What do you think it is?
20:12That sure looks
20:13like exotic wood.
20:15Why?
20:16Why did you say it?
20:17The colors on it.
20:18Really?
20:19And the curve.
20:20That shouldn't be here.
20:21Nope.
20:23This is strange.
20:24This linearity
20:25and that staining.
20:26It could be palm tree.
20:29Yeah,
20:30we don't know
20:30where that's from.
20:31I mean,
20:31we're on an island
20:32and we know
20:33people have traveled
20:34from a long way away
20:35to this island
20:36by boat.
20:37It would be really cool
20:38if you're right,
20:39Gary.
20:39I come from 200 feet
20:40in the money pit.
20:41That's incredible.
20:44This is wood
20:45from the bottom
20:46of the solution channel
20:47and wood should not
20:49be at this depth
20:51unless it were pushed
20:53down from above.
20:54Get a bag, Peter.
20:55Put it in the bag.
20:56We need to talk
20:57to experts.
20:58If this is an exotic wood,
21:00it would lend credence
21:01to an old world ship
21:03coming to the new world.
21:07All right,
21:07let's take a look
21:08at this.
21:09Let's get stuck in.
21:12The year has come
21:12to an end.
21:13We're within
21:14a few hammer grabs
21:15of being done
21:16and I hope
21:17we find the one thing
21:18or solve the mystery
21:19or find the treasure.
21:21I still have
21:22every fiber
21:24of my being
21:24believes that
21:25Oak Island is real,
21:27the mystery is real.
21:28I want to know
21:29what happened here.
21:33A lot of rounded stuff.
21:42No solid hits.
21:44We're probably
21:44getting very close
21:46to the bottom.
21:47Yeah.
21:50Hey, guys.
21:51Hey.
21:51How you doing?
21:52We're on bedrock,
21:54bottom of the hole.
21:55Okay.
21:57What are the
21:58final numbers?
21:59210.
21:59Okay.
22:03We gave it
22:04a good shot, man.
22:05We did.
22:05100% we did.
22:09We should all
22:10be quite proud
22:10of what we all did.
22:12Oh, yeah.
22:14I love the fact
22:15that the money pit,
22:16even though it
22:17denies us answers,
22:20at the end of the day,
22:21we walk away
22:22with our heads
22:22hella high.
22:25Thanks, guys.
22:25Appreciate it.
22:26Yep.
22:29Sometimes you get the ball
22:30across the goal line
22:31and sometimes you don't.
22:33But we did learn
22:34some things
22:34and we made
22:35some discoveries
22:36which may be impactful
22:37as we delve into them.
22:41You can't deny the science.
22:43There is silver
22:44at depth
22:44down in the solution channel.
22:46I'm not willing
22:48to give up
22:48until we find it.
22:53Hello.
22:54Hey, Marty.
22:55Hey, Rick.
22:56What's going on?
22:57You know,
22:58this is the last
23:00caisson.
23:01Yeah.
23:02Good news is
23:03that it was
23:04a technical success.
23:06The concept
23:06of the treasure
23:07having fallen in depth,
23:09everything we encountered
23:10would have permitted
23:12that to happen.
23:12There's no question
23:13about that.
23:14Yeah.
23:15And we got down
23:16210.
23:17We bottomed out
23:18and unfortunately
23:19we didn't find it.
23:22Well, you know, Rick,
23:23I agree.
23:24It sounds like
23:25proof of concept
23:26is there.
23:27We know it can happen
23:28but we missed
23:29and we were both hoping
23:31for the one thing
23:32being found here
23:33and that one thing
23:34being distinctly treasure.
23:36Right.
23:36But if we think
23:38about the year
23:39in its totality,
23:40I think there's a lot
23:41to be proud of.
23:43I think there's a lot
23:44to be happy about.
23:45Yeah.
23:46Well, Rick,
23:47you know,
23:47well, thank you
23:48for the news.
23:48I'll digest it.
23:50Actually,
23:51I've been meaning
23:52to mention this to you.
23:53Dr. Spooner
23:54has an idea
23:56on how we could
23:57refine
23:57and maybe understand
23:59what's really going on
24:01in the Money Pit area
24:01and where that treasure
24:03still could be.
24:04So we all need
24:05to assemble
24:05in the war room.
24:06Right.
24:07We'll let him
24:07present his idea
24:09and I think
24:10you'll like it.
24:11Okie doke.
24:12All right.
24:13See ya.
24:16Welcome to everybody.
24:17We have reached
24:18the end of this year's
24:19exploration,
24:20which makes this
24:21a last meeting.
24:22Hello, Terry and Derek.
24:24Hello, Marty.
24:25I think a good place
24:27to start
24:28is with this
24:29heat map
24:30that Steve made
24:31some time ago
24:32to update it
24:32for this year's efforts.
24:33The idea is to say,
24:35where are the spots
24:37we have found
24:38artifacts?
24:40Earlier this year,
24:42surveyor Steve Guptill
24:43created a so-called
24:44heat map.
24:45It illustrates
24:46where the team
24:47has made their most
24:48significant discoveries,
24:50noting their approximate
24:51dates of origin
24:52by using different colors.
24:55So far,
24:55we have found
24:56about 800 artifacts
24:57island-wide.
24:58Laird is his own team.
24:59They find hundreds
25:00more than that.
25:00We found about
25:011,200 artifacts
25:02this year.
25:03And then let me go
25:04over the hot areas.
25:05Most of the artifacts
25:06that you see
25:06are from the last
25:07two years.
25:08If it's in the 1700s,
25:10I've been clicking
25:11orange.
25:12If it's earlier
25:13than that,
25:14I click pink.
25:15Blue is 1800s
25:16to now.
25:17Yeah.
25:18Let me turn off
25:19every color
25:19except pink.
25:21Wow.
25:23There's an overwhelming
25:24amount of evidence
25:25that shows that
25:26people were here
25:27earlier than
25:28we originally believed.
25:30It's almost
25:31indisputable that
25:32there was
25:33island-wide activity
25:34to a fairly
25:36large scale.
25:38That's significant,
25:39is it not?
25:40It is significant.
25:41Yeah.
25:42We just need to know
25:43who and why
25:44and when.
25:46Yeah,
25:46and what they were doing.
25:47Yeah.
25:48Mm-hmm.
25:48Well,
25:49we also know
25:50that the lot
25:50at Boulder was moved
25:51and looking up there
25:53on the heat map,
25:54that would have had
25:55to be work
25:56that was done earlier.
25:57That's a huge anomaly.
25:59That's a great segue
26:00to go to Lot 8
26:00and to me,
26:01this Boulder
26:02came out of nowhere
26:03this year.
26:05Something rather
26:06significant
26:07had to happen here.
26:08Laird,
26:09is there anything
26:09like it in Nova Scotia
26:11that you know of?
26:11I haven't found
26:12anything like it
26:13in North America.
26:14I think it's much older.
26:16I would not be surprised
26:17if it got us
26:18into the 1,200 range.
26:21The team
26:22was stunned
26:22to discover
26:23a 40,000-pound boulder
26:25on Lot 8
26:25this year
26:26that was covering
26:27the cradle of stones
26:28and a potential shaft
26:30deeper below it.
26:31However,
26:33prior to that,
26:34they had found
26:34two curious artifacts
26:36on the lot.
26:37One,
26:38a lead bag seal
26:39that may date back
26:40some 700 years,
26:42and the other
26:43was a copper artifact
26:44with symbols
26:45that may be connected
26:47to the Knights Templar.
26:49Well,
26:49and Rick,
26:50you've got some light
26:51that you can shed
26:51on the lot of boulder
26:52from that trip
26:53to the Azores.
26:54Yes.
26:54We wanted to find
26:55if there is some evidence
26:57that the Templars
26:59or associated groups
27:00in the 1300s
27:03needed to safeguard
27:05a treasure
27:05via the Azores
27:07prior to coming
27:08to Oak Island.
27:09We went to
27:10a megalithic site,
27:12and on the way
27:13up the hill,
27:13I just noticed
27:14a huge stone,
27:15but it had slots
27:16carved into it.
27:18And to me,
27:19it was so similar
27:21to the spacing
27:23in the lot 8 boulder.
27:26That rock
27:27has a big void,
27:29to me,
27:30purposely built
27:31underneath it.
27:32Which brings me
27:33to what Scott
27:33did yesterday.
27:35So yesterday,
27:35we went out
27:36and got a large hammer drill,
27:38three foot long Corbett,
27:39and when we drilled
27:40in there,
27:41we didn't find bedrock.
27:43Okay,
27:44well,
27:44here's what's certain.
27:45There's a lot more work
27:46to do on this boulder
27:47on lot 8,
27:49including digging
27:50underneath it.
27:51There still could be
27:52a tunnel.
27:53There could be a shaft.
27:54But there could be treasure.
27:55There could be treasure,
27:56Gary.
27:57We need to completely
27:58eliminate any question
28:00as to what might have
28:01been done
28:01underneath that boulder.
28:03But let's shift over
28:04to lot 5,
28:04which has been
28:06hugely significant.
28:07So we have this feature
28:09which became
28:10two features,
28:10which became
28:11three features.
28:13This year,
28:14the team made
28:15a number of new discoveries
28:16in the rounded stone
28:18foundation near the shore
28:19on lot 5
28:20that suggest
28:21it was occupied
28:22by different groups
28:23over different periods
28:25prior to the discovery
28:26of the money pit.
28:28These include
28:29a folded coin,
28:31meant to represent
28:31a religious symbol
28:33of protection
28:33that may be
28:34more than 300 years old.
28:37They also found
28:38a decorative lead artifact
28:40that may date back
28:41more than 700 years.
28:44And in just the last month,
28:46they began investigating
28:47what was previously thought
28:49to be a modern well
28:50just a few yards away.
28:53But after digging next to it,
28:55they discovered evidence
28:56that it is a much
28:57larger feature
28:58and may be connected
29:00to the rounded foundation.
29:03And my understanding there,
29:04it wasn't just a domicile,
29:07something different
29:07than that.
29:08Correct.
29:09We've always looked
29:10for the camp.
29:11If there was this
29:12tremendous activity
29:14at the money pit,
29:15it would have taken
29:15men and animals
29:17and support structures
29:18and all kinds of stuff,
29:19and maybe lot 5
29:20is what we've been
29:21looking for.
29:22We have evidence here
29:23that substantiates that.
29:25And we have possibly
29:26found a road
29:28that might be a way
29:30to move the treasure
29:31here on Oak Island,
29:32the sand road.
29:33And again,
29:34it leads us down
29:35a path of discovery
29:37in the swamp.
29:38The sand road
29:39potentially changes
29:40the whole island.
29:43While excavating
29:44the western side
29:45of the swamp...
29:46Still sandy.
29:47...the team
29:48was surprised
29:49to uncover
29:49a sand-covered
29:51cobblestone road
29:52that was lined
29:53with eight-sided
29:54wooden survey stakes.
29:55And as they kept
29:57exposing the mysterious
29:58feature,
30:00they found signs
30:01that it may run
30:02through the center
30:03of the island
30:03toward Lot 5,
30:05as well as
30:07through the swamp
30:07toward the believed
30:09Portuguese stone road.
30:12I find the sand road
30:13really interesting now.
30:15We were always looking
30:16for a connection
30:17between the money pit
30:18and Lot 5,
30:19and perhaps the sand road
30:21is the connection.
30:22That it could lead
30:23literally to a place
30:25where treasures deposited.
30:29Good.
30:30Excellent.
30:34The sand road
30:35could lead literally
30:36to a place
30:37where treasures deposited.
30:39Exactly.
30:41I love this little
30:43ox shoe
30:43that was found
30:44along that path.
30:45I only mean one thing,
30:47and that's all it.
30:48We thought that
30:49the Portuguese stone road
30:51that we call it
30:51was a big job.
30:52Well, you know,
30:53look at the length
30:54of this thing.
30:55They might be
30:55the same thing.
30:56Right.
30:57This sand road
30:58is a continuation
30:59of center road.
31:00That means that
31:01it's there much earlier
31:03than we first thought.
31:04Agreed.
31:05And so we have these
31:06in front of us
31:07are what we believe
31:08to be a hand cannon
31:10and four stone shots.
31:13These two
31:13are from previous years.
31:15They're both
31:16from the Azores.
31:17But then this year
31:18we find two more.
31:19Actually,
31:20Derek found them
31:21on the wash plant.
31:22And here's the
31:23ultimate point.
31:24No country significant
31:25was using them
31:26after about 1450.
31:28So what are those
31:29doing on Oak Island?
31:30It really,
31:31I think,
31:32is one of the most
31:33concrete dates we have.
31:35When the team
31:36first uncovered
31:37a section of the sand road
31:39in the swamp
31:39this year,
31:40look at that,
31:41they also found part
31:42of an early firearm
31:44known as
31:45a hand cannon.
31:46But that is unusual.
31:48It was a curious find,
31:50given that they have
31:51now also discovered
31:52four pieces of stone shot,
31:55three of which
31:55were unearthed
31:56in the Money Pit area.
31:58It's a very interesting piece.
32:00And during the team's
32:02recent trip
32:02to the Azores Islands,
32:04the hand cannon
32:05were common
32:06in the 1300s, yes.
32:08Portuguese archaeologist
32:09Tiago Rodrigues
32:11affirmed
32:12that these artifacts
32:13may not only date back
32:14to the 14th century,
32:16but could also be
32:17of Portuguese origin.
32:20Is this enough
32:21to prove
32:22a pre-Columbian voyage?
32:24No, but it's
32:25a good indication.
32:26And a good sign
32:27of treasure
32:28because you'd need
32:28guns and ammo
32:30if you're putting
32:31a large treasure
32:32in the Money Pit.
32:33Yeah.
32:34And so finally,
32:37conceptually,
32:37we arrive at the Money Pit.
32:39Did a lot of work there,
32:41and what got us
32:42very excited
32:43is this right here.
32:45This is the fabled
32:47Pit Blado coin.
32:49So this coin
32:50turns out to be
32:51a 1369 to 1371
32:54Portuguese coin,
32:56extremely rare
32:58and very valuable.
33:00And of course,
33:00that got us
33:01all really excited,
33:02including me,
33:03who is fixed on treasure
33:04more than story.
33:06A chest of these
33:07would be worth
33:08just that,
33:09would be worth
33:09an enormous fortune.
33:11And it did apparently
33:12come out of the Money Pit.
33:14So we got real excited
33:15about this,
33:15and then we chased
33:17the theory of,
33:20all right,
33:20there was a treasure
33:21in the Money Pit
33:21and the treasure
33:23fell into the
33:23solution channel.
33:25And scientific evidence
33:26to show that
33:27it's still down there.
33:28Exactly.
33:29So it got us all enthused,
33:30and we were able
33:31to get canisters
33:32down into
33:33the solution channel.
33:34Yeah.
33:34We found lots of things
33:36that shouldn't have been
33:37in the solution channel.
33:38My analysis of that
33:39is that it was
33:41proof of concept
33:42and proves the theory
33:43that stuff could
33:44fall down in there.
33:45We weren't successful
33:47in finding the treasure,
33:48but we all still think
33:49it's here because
33:50of your work,
33:51Ian and Dr. Fred,
33:53because of the metals
33:53in the water.
33:54Mm-hmm.
33:54I know you have
33:56a potentially new method
33:57that we could zero in
33:58and maybe find the treasure.
34:00Yep.
34:01Can you bring the group
34:02up to speed on that?
34:03Yeah.
34:05A little while ago,
34:06Dr. Michael suggested
34:08we're having problems
34:09with water.
34:10Water moves around,
34:11gets diluted.
34:12So Fred suggests,
34:13why don't we look at wood?
34:14Because it has the ability
34:15to soak up metal,
34:17just like a water filter
34:18would soak up metal
34:19from water.
34:20And the wood's much better
34:21at soaking up metals
34:22than water.
34:23water, and I think
34:24we just need to do
34:25more work with the wood.
34:26The wood's at its early stages.
34:29And we got the data back,
34:30results from like 15
34:32sort of random samples.
34:34So if you've just
34:35done the tests now,
34:36where did you get
34:37the wood to test?
34:38We got it from the
34:39outside of logs
34:41and planks
34:42that were in various
34:43tunnels and shafts
34:44throughout the money pit.
34:46And something did show up
34:49in shaft 2A,
34:51which is,
34:53I think,
34:54the unknown shaft.
34:56We're digging up
34:57the first ever
34:58searcher shaft
34:58on Oak Island.
34:59In 2024,
35:02the Oak Island team
35:03began uncovering
35:04a feature
35:04that they believed
35:06to be an early
35:0619th century
35:07searcher shaft
35:08known as
35:09Shaft 2,
35:11which according
35:12to historical records
35:13was located
35:1414 feet southeast
35:16of the original
35:17money pit.
35:17I tend to think
35:19it's two different
35:20shafts.
35:20However,
35:22during the excavation,
35:23they discovered
35:24another undocumented
35:25shaft,
35:26some 10 feet
35:27to the northeast,
35:28that they dubbed
35:29Shaft 2A.
35:31This made them wonder
35:32whether they found
35:33an old shaft
35:34built by treasure hunters
35:36or perhaps
35:37treasure depositors.
35:40So in Shaft 2A,
35:41the wood sample
35:42from Shaft 2A,
35:43we had the highest
35:45amount of silver
35:46we've ever seen
35:46and also,
35:48I think,
35:49the third highest
35:49level of gold.
36:03Great.
36:06There you go.
36:07Well, that's pretty
36:08exciting, right?
36:08It's another direct
36:09indication of treasure,
36:10isn't it?
36:11With that result,
36:12if we have this kind
36:13of silver,
36:14highest silver we've
36:15seen in something
36:15like 2A,
36:16that could mean
36:17that there's silver
36:18very, very close
36:19to where that wood is.
36:23After testing
36:24numerous samples
36:24of wood
36:25that the team
36:26has unearthed
36:27in the Money Pit area
36:28over the years,
36:29Dr. Spooner
36:30has found new evidence
36:31of buried silver
36:32in the mysterious
36:34shaft known as 2A,
36:37a structure
36:37located more than
36:3930 feet northeast
36:40of where they detected
36:41precious metals
36:42in the solution channel.
36:46Dr. Spooner,
36:47how do you reconcile
36:48the silver that we're
36:49finding in the wood
36:51from 2A
36:51and the silver
36:52that we're finding
36:53in the solution channel?
36:55Maybe what we're
36:56looking at here
36:56is a variety
36:59of sources?
37:00Or multiple deposits.
37:02Yep.
37:03This is getting
37:04interesting.
37:04Multiple treasures.
37:05There's a possibility,
37:07sure.
37:07Wow.
37:09What I'm proposing
37:10is we take a much
37:11more detailed look
37:12at metals in the wood.
37:14Dr. Spooner's latest
37:15report perhaps proves
37:17the worthiness
37:18of the idea
37:19of testing the wood
37:20in several of the shafts.
37:21And it certainly
37:22introduces new possibilities
37:24that we're chasing
37:25after multiple treasures
37:26in Oak Island.
37:27This is pretty much
37:28a no-brainer.
37:29Let's continue this.
37:30Yep.
37:31So, yes, proceed, please.
37:33Tell us where the treasure is.
37:34We're ready.
37:35Do my best.
37:36Yeah.
37:39Well, I just think
37:40it's a very productive year.
37:41We've had some major finds,
37:43the boulder on Lot 8,
37:45the sand road in the swamp.
37:47Right.
37:48It just seems like
37:49Oak Island has its secrets
37:50and we've uncovered some.
37:52Yeah.
37:53So, I want to thank you
37:54and I think we had
37:55a great year.
37:56Yep.
37:56So, I thought a long time
37:58about how I would like
37:59to close here today
38:00and I thought a good way
38:02to do that might be
38:03to use a symbol.
38:05Gary, it's right here
38:06in me top pocket.
38:08Top pocket, fine.
38:10Yeah, top pocket, fine
38:11and it's this.
38:16This is one ounce
38:17of pure gold.
38:18It appropriately has
38:19the Canadian maple leaf on it
38:21and here's the pure gold
38:22I would like to find.
38:24And we have found pure gold
38:26here from the people
38:26of Canada,
38:27from the people
38:28of Nova Scotia
38:29and certainly the people
38:31in this room.
38:32And if we are moving
38:33caissons around next year,
38:35instead of these poker chips,
38:36we're going to move
38:37this maple leaf around
38:38to decide where to dig
38:40and hopefully find
38:42the treasure.
38:43Yeah.
38:44Yep.
38:46It goes without saying
38:47how important you have
38:49all become to me.
38:52we're a family.
38:55Because the experience here
38:56is only as wonderful
38:57as it is
38:58because of each
38:59and every one of you.
39:01Without you,
39:02without each of you,
39:04these past years of my life
39:06would have been
39:08far less rich.
39:11the treasure in this story
39:13are like brothers.
39:16They're together, right?
39:17But the real treasure,
39:19really,
39:20is each and every one of you.
39:24This is the true treasure
39:26in life
39:27that we share now.
39:29100%.
39:30We are very grateful
39:31to be a part of
39:32your passion
39:34and share it with you.
39:36We would not be here
39:38if you did not share
39:40your dream,
39:41not only with us,
39:42but the world.
39:46Yeah.
39:47Yeah, well said.
39:48I agree.
39:49Absolutely.
39:50Yep.
39:50The thank you
39:51that Craig expressed,
39:52the thank you
39:52that Marty expressed,
39:53the thank you
39:54that I'm expressing
39:55is heartfelt,
39:56it is genuine,
39:57and it is important.
39:59Emiliano,
40:00why don't you
40:01close out today?
40:02Grazie mille.
40:04Perfetto.
40:10Okay.
40:11Let's go.
40:12Thank you all.
40:13Thanks, everybody.
40:15After you.
40:16The year on Oak Island
40:17has come to an end.
40:19Her legendary secrets
40:21remain unknown.
40:22Look at the enormity
40:23of the finds.
40:24Keona, thanks.
40:25Look at the early dates
40:27expert.
40:28We have written,
40:29maybe not the answer
40:30to the Oak Island mystery,
40:32but we have added
40:33chapters upon chapters
40:34of information.
40:36Goodbye, all.
40:37However,
40:38Rick,
40:39Marty,
40:40Craig,
40:40and their team
40:41have proved
40:42one thing.
40:43The quest for answers
40:45to this 231-year-old mystery
40:48is well worth the pursuit.
40:50My whole life
40:51I've been curious
40:52about things,
40:52very, very curious
40:53about things.
40:54Gets me in trouble
40:54sometimes.
40:55Oh, it's another
40:56good year.
40:56Yep.
40:57Always bittersweet,
40:58isn't it?
40:59How can we have found
41:00so many inexplicable
41:01things in one year?
41:02So there's many reasons
41:03that would make me
41:04come back here
41:05to find this treasure.
41:07We have to be close
41:08to the end game,
41:09don't we?
41:11So far,
41:12they have found
41:13more than 2,000 artifacts
41:16at numerous
41:17man-made structures
41:19predating the discovery
41:20of the Money Pit,
41:21some by as much
41:23as 800 years.
41:25And they have obtained
41:27mounting scientific evidence
41:29that treasure
41:30really may lie buried
41:32all across the island.
41:35So,
41:37next year,
41:38when they return,
41:40they will build
41:41upon all they have learned
41:43and revealed
41:44to solve
41:46the mystery.
41:48And like a year
41:49where we said,
41:50you know what?
41:52We did it.
41:53That moment
41:54has not come,
41:55but that is still
41:56my hope.
41:57I won't relent.
41:59I'm quite stubborn
42:00that way.
42:01Bye.
