Rubio in Vaticano, il Papa gli regala una penna in legno d'ulivo: «Pianta della pace»

Il Segretario di Stato americano Marco Rubio ha incontrato Papa Leone XIV in Vaticano. La visita arriva dopo settimane di tensioni tra gli Stati Uniti e la Santa Sede sulla guerra in Iran, durante le quali il presidente americano Donald Trump ha ripetutamente criticato il Pontefice per i suoi appelli alla pace nella regione. Nel corso della visita c'è stato uno scambio di doni fra il capo della diplomazia americano e Prevost. Rubio ha regalato al Pontefice un piccolo fermacarte di cristallo a forma di palla da football e ha fatto riferimento alla nota passione di Leone XIV per i Chicago White Sox: «Lei è un appassionato di baseball, ma questo porta il sigillo del dipartimento di Stato», ha detto. Da parte sua, il Papa ha regalato a Rubio una penna realizzata in legno d'ulivo, che è "ovviamente la pianta della pace", ha detto Leone, e un libro illustrato sulle opere d'arte vaticane.
